I submitted this for the February RCL ‘23. She came out of the kickstarter box a little goofy (her left arm is a bit of a mess) although not nearly as bad as Zeus. As usual, Reaper immediately sent me a replacement w/o question, what great people! While he’s going to get chopped up for broken pillar parts, I thought I’d try something different and go for a bronze statue look with her. Just one coat of brown over the olive primer told me it was the right choice. This was just an amazing painting experience - each color (I used Reaper’s Power Palette on a brass statue picture to pick candidate colors) just seemed like a revelation. I can’t believe how much a light brown over drab green can so immediately read as ‘aged bronze’. Comments and criticisms are welcome. I’m omitting the front view, but rest assured I resisted the impulse to give her a shiny nipple to match more famous statuary!

OK delay in delivery of next giant so working on random stuff. These two have been falling on my head regularly so I gave them bigger bases to start with! Base-coated them in Zandri Dust to start the process of painting them stone. Next stage should be a wash with Earthshade - but then I picked up the Gargrak's Sewer. I've been using it a lot to shade gold and bronze but this time I coated the whole figure - not even really trying for an even coat and the figures just turned into bronze. Today I gave the rub points a very slight drybrush with gold ( every public bronze I've ever seen has shiny spots and a couple of verdigris trickles. Actual painting time well under an hour and the base coat was most of that. ( the marble bases are off-white, a coat of contrast medium with a bit os Space Wolves Grey swirled in then veins of gold and white dragged in with a pin then gloss varnished)

Abandoned Jungle Shrine
Chaoswolf posted a topic in Works in Progress: Sculpts, Conversion, Terrain.
So, I'm pretty bad at WIPs; either I lose interest and the thread just withers away, or I forget to document half the steps. The latter is what happened in this case. So, last year st Reapercon, I was given a box full of broken/misprinted/can't be sold miniatures by one of the vendors. This snake demon lady was in it. She has one broken (and missing) arm. I was debating trying to sculpt her a new arm, but I decided instead to make her a statue. Turning the piece into an abandoned Jungle shrine is what I eventually decided to go. So, here's everything that happened to get to this state: used Gorilla glue to attach to a wooden base, laid down acrylic modeling paste for the groundwork, painted and flocked the groundwork, and then painted the statue. Painting the statue consisted of priming it, applying a quick and sloppy coat of dark gray, and then drybrushing it 3 or 4 times with successively lighter colors, ending with white. The next step was to dirty it up which I did ny applying numerous inks and washes to try and make the statue look like it's been exposed to the weather for quite some time. Next up is adding the jungle. See below for pics. -

Hi everyone, it's been some time. It's been hard for me to find some time to paint lately. I'm working on my Cat Critter display base as much as I can, a little every night. So, I thought some of you might like to see part of my progress. Here are part of the statues and "collapsed" pillars that will be decorating the display diorama. The lions are Reaper Miniatures 77341, sculpted by Geoff Valley. The collapsed pillars are 72591, Wizkids. I cut them to separate the blocs and painted them in white marble colors. There are veins of quartz and gold in the marble. As you can see, I glued the lions tail on their back to make them look more like statues. The lions are mounted on 74012, 25 x 50mm cavalry base.

This is Bones Nakayama Hayato Iconic Samurai. I found his details a bit crude and decided to paint it as a statue for my Nippon Project. Speed Paint with the Reaper Stone Triad. Scale 75 Decayed Metal, P3 Molten Bronze and Vallejo Verdigris. WIP here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79416-nippon-land-of-the-rising-moon-by-glitterwolf/&page=10&tab=comments#comment-1829761 There is a legend that deep in the woods around Kyoto there stands a statue of one of Nippon's greatest warriors. If one would find it and paid respect to it the statue might bestow luck on that person. It is also believed that when the Empire is in dire need, the statue will come to life to fight once more to protect Nippon.

When I got my Bones III Obsidian Crypt I had a little idea. https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/crypt/latest/77637 I put Kaladrax ( now Discontinued) on it. She made it her throne! I also included some pieces of the Bones III Graveyard Set, and a few other pieces I had laying around. One statue is broken because Kaladrax swung her tail when she landed. I made some roses with the basing stuff @knarthex had send me a while ago. Also my first real attempt at marble. I made red marble and white/yellow marble for the Crypt. WIP here if interested. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/75896-kaladrax-on-mausoleum-by-glitterwolf/& So without further ado here is Kaladrax on her Mausoleum! Hope you like it. Feel free to like, comment and praise. Any complaints...talk to the Dragon!

Hi, I painted "Eric, the Paladin initiate" as a random mini from Bones 2. I like his contemplative look and pose... So I decided to make a little vignette/diorama by adding one of the graveyard statue from Bones3. I call it "Time to Reflect". The base is an Orange juice cap, and the tree is from Woodland Scenic. C&C Welcome

I recently finished the Dagon Statue terrain pieces from Bones 3. Nothing fancy, but a series of drybrushed layers. Step by step can be found here: http://allbonesabout.blogspot.com/2017/08/dagon-statue-bones-3-terrain.html

I painted up Aquarius and Virgo as statues for my Dragons Don't Share Ruins. My WIP is here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/71651-dragons-dont-share-2/ I am still working on the overall but I was happy with how my "statues" turned out so wanted to share them in a Show Off! I can't get over how cute these two little minis are. I had no idea they were so cute. I will be buying more to paint as "normal" but I think they make excellent statues as well! Pictures of Virgo in first reply.

This was sculpted by Admiral over at Chaos Dwarfs online (he's ebaying copies in the event anyone is interested). This is on a 40mm base, and is the "fire" version. The other version is dismembering a goblin (not my thing, but both sets come with the Golem). This was a "speed" paint, taking only about 5 hours, including the glow effect. I could push it further, but I stopped when I thought it looked right to my eye. The base is 40mm using cork with a Happy Seppuku base over it into Procreate. The lava is liquitex matte medium layered until the base texture was less visible. The white dots on the staff and that show up on the arm are not there in real life, not sure what the camera was doing, but otherwise this is exact to real life.

So, I had a copy of this guy sitting on my desk with a few bits painted. I decided to make a little diorama using him and some other models. The barbarian's part of a statue that will be the centerpiece of the diorama, with some townsfolk going about their business and some bored guards. It's late now, so I'll post some sketches and painted minis in the morning.

Quick Stone golem, this one was done as a body guard to a very vain and particular sorceress, hence the clothes and whatnot and not just solid stone look.

This will (hopefully) be used as the beginning of a terrain collection that I'm going to be working on for skirmish games, such as Frostgrave. I made it from a 10/15mm watchtower that I've had around for ages. I'm sorry, but I don't remember who made it. I filed the top flat to serve as a base for the statue which is an old Mage Knight piece, which is itself a copy of an even older Ral Partha figure. The paint/quality of the figure itself wasn't worth trying to save, but it was decent enough to make a statue, so here it is.

So this is from a company called Windstone Editions. They are hand-sculpted and then cast to make copies. Pre-painted ones are their main business, but they sell paint your own ones too. These are what I painted before I began painting miniatures ( http://s33.photobuck...el/library/PYOs<<< those are all the ones i've done, most have been sold) Even the smallest of these is bigger than most miniatures (the smallest one i've painted is the size of the Bones pathfinder Red dragon) maybe that's why it's easier for me to paint the big miniatures =P i'm used to painting big stuff

This is a work in progress because I have the whole diorama. But the statue itself is really cool dungeon décor.

Cranked out a quick caryatid last week. Built up shades of grey with dry brushing, washed it with some blue quickshade, dry brushed up again, glazed with some thinned green quickshade and placed some highlights in Polished Bone. It was quite a nice exercise in where to place the highlights, and I like to think it came out well. Not entirely convinced all of the steps that I took really show in the end result, though.

03514, Exotic Idol sculpted by Jason Wiebe. It was painted as if it was made of volcanic and marble stone, ornated with jade and gold. I carved the stone tiles on the base, added plastic plants and static grass. Comments are very welcome.

This is a tabletop playing piece for my RPG games. It came about because I had a (metal statue) in my old parts box...so I decided to build it into this piece (Cobra Shrine of Rama Kas - Evil Cultist). The size of the piece is 8" x 6". The statue is (the metal statue from my parts box)...the alter stand & rock steps were cast by me using plaster...the cobra was made by heating & working plastic spru into the cobra shape & design...the candles & wax droppings are all stratch...Since this is fantasy...I tend to use a lot of giant flowers (silk & otherwise)...as per the current movie Mystery Island and the old concept of everything being giant from the movie Honey I Shrunk The Kids...The base for the piece (as is most of my terrain bases is ceiling tile cut to size & shape)!

Hey folks, sometime in the near future i plan to make a series of shrines for the major gods in the D&D universe(my experience is limited to 4th ed lore). Each shrine will be around 2*2 to 4*4 squares large and primarily feature a statue in the likeness of said god. By divine guidance, I have already selected and aquired most of the miniatures from Reaper and I have msot of the building blocks I think i need from Hirst Arts. My question to the Council of Brushlords and Brushladies would be regarding the look of these statues. Im looking to get a reasonable variety in the look of the sculptures, anything from limestone to fel crystal. So far i can pull off a drybrushed grey stone look, but it would be terribly dull to repeat this 12 or so times - What tips or sites would you recommend for neat looking statues? - Do you have recommendations for the materials I should use for a particular deity?(eg- Erathis painted to look like marble) I plan to start a WIP thread when I can clear my slate to focus on this project, but here are the minis i have so far in no particular order: Bahamut: (2x) 03600: Praying Paladin, 65025: Praying Paladin Erathis: 50001: Sascha Dubois, Time Chaser Pelor: 02803: Brother Vincent Avandra: 60059: Harrower Corellon: 14450: Larnach, Grey Elf Mage Lolth: 02990: Crypt of the Vampiress Sehanine: 03352: Children of the Zodiac: Virgo Ioun: 03291: Heinz Stargazer Kord: 03309: Kord the Destroyer, Barbarian Moradin : None yet The Raven Queen: 60088: Cleric of Urgathoa Melora: 14274: Clarissa Banshee,Razig Mage Zehir: None yet
