^^ Link to the WIP. My Stephanie Law Kickstarter loot pack had their first goof up! Lucky for me, they rectified the situation immediately. At any rate, I had a spare necromancer body and a spare bard arm. I decided to do my first ever conversion and connect the two! I told my friend about this, and we came up with the idea to make The Necrobard an emo-punk rock musician, with heavy influence from My Chemical Romance (specifically The Black Parade). See inspiration: Instead of a summoner, we settled on a "everything hurts" idea of the stereotypical depressed musician/comedian who has very high charisma, but hides a lot of pain. And he wears a lot of black. My friend is indeed going to play this character (his initials are hiding in red in the crook of the lute). Bardic party buffing plus necro debuffing of bad guys. I attempted to make it look like he was casting a necromancy spell by freehanding his hands to have the skeleton glowing through the gloves, and the lute glow where he holds it, and out of the center. I picked "The Punisher" character's logo for an easy skull to freehand on the back. The red stain is because the character beat his brother over the head with the lute as a backstory. I added the skull to the base for the heck of it. If you look closely at the bard-arm, it doesn't line up perfectly... but good enough for a first conversion, yeah? My epoxy was being a butt, so I settled on pins and super glue. If not for the inspiration being bleach blonde, I likely would have given him dark hair. But hey, crazy pale was an adventure to paint. As was the absurd amount of black/gray. The photos I think are over-bright, so I will be tweaking them in the future; I think less light but longer exposure (if I can hold steady) would do wonders - better ones to come in a week or so when I can pin Doug down with my camera. Comments, critique, musical expressions of sadness or joy - all welcome!

I'll call this one done as well, though I may touch up a few areas. I love this sculpt. It's so full of life and happiness. I just had to rain on the parade... I added some faint OSL from the spirit on the surroundings. At the last minute I decided to go ahead and use the flower. My WIP is here. Enjoy! C&C always welcome! See y'all at Reapercon!!!

I'm looking for a photo of a vignette that was made with Darksword's miniature "The Lovers". Here is the stock photo from their site, for reference. http://www.darkswordminiatures.com/shop/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/330x/040ec09b1e35df139433887a97daa66f/7/6/7617_f1_p.jpg What I am looking for is a vignette made using this model, with a wall/archway modeled in the background, and some garden stuff around it (IIRC). I saw it on Facebook last year and now cannot find it. It is masterfully painted. Unfortunately I don't know who did it. I cannot believe there aren't thousands of copies of it floating around on mini painting sites for people to goggle over. If you have seen this image and can point me to it, I would be very happy.

Finally got some photos of my speed paints at Gen Con. As some of my fellow con goers already posted a few great speed paints you may know the rules. 45 minutes, limited paint and two brushes that are used and abused at the Con. Although this year and last you also get a brush from games and gears that you may use at each speed paint, but somehow I either lose it or leave it at the hotel and never remember to bring it back. Anyway here are my two which also will count for the RPChallenge. My Dark Sword speed paint Mab - Queen of the Fairies And a quick poorly lit photo of all the lovely ladies. And Impact's Chibi Gargoyle Each will stay as they are and be placed on my shelf with previous speed paints. Both surprisingly scored 2nd place but no final round for me as I was leaving too early on Sunday to attend. During both speed paints everyone painted quite well and produced some pretty minis in just 45 mins.

I really love the Stephanie Law line from Dark Sword Miniatures and Euterpe may be my favorite from the Kickstarter. She was among the first three I prepped and after ReaperCon I started to put some paint on her. I did post a couple pictures in the WIP group thread for the Stephanie Law pieces, but wanted to be careful as I planned on taking her to Gen Con and their rules ask that you do not post finished pictures prior to the show. Her foxy friends were already seen in this thread http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62924-dark-sword-standing-kirin-and-a-few-foxes/ prior to basing of course. Without further ado here are my best photos I could manage. I spoke with DixonGrfx at ReaperCon about Euterpe and was toying with the idea of painting her with sheer cloth, I am glad I decided to go ahead and try more sheer as I feel it worked much better the second time around and worked well on her. Her base was custom built on a wooden block that I took a hacksaw to the corner and added modeling paste, cork, putty and dental plaster rocks. Overall I am quite happy with how this piece turned out and I look forward to painting up a few more muses. Comments and Critiques always welcomed.

With most everyone having received or receiving in the next few days, I'd like to open up a thread for EVERYONE in a Group/Open WIP thread. Although I won't be doing mine until after the current projects are off my desk with time constraints, I can see quite a few of us really wanting to paint these up. This is open to EVERYONE and ALL the new DSM Stephanie Law Masterworks figures. Feel free to post up your WIP here and most importantly... HAVE FUN!! P.S. Let us keep chatter to a minimum and only about these figures.

Here is another piece I took to ReaperCon. I entered her into the open category and to my surprise earned me a gold medal. Then I was speechless when she was given the Dark Sword Best in Show Manufacturer Award. There were so many beautiful Dark Sword entries at the show and I am honored that she was selected. I quite enjoyed working on this piece and I must Thank everyone who gave me feedback in the group thread http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/58747-groupopen-dsm-wips-stephanie-law-masterworks/page-12?hl=%20stephanie%20%20law as there were a few times with her that I needed the inspiration from all of you to continue painting. Here are a few of my completed photos. This one shows the Kirin in focus better I love painting Dark Sword Miniatures and plan on finishing up a few more of the Stephanie Law miniatures soon. Again Thank you to everyone who helped me push this piece in the WIP thread and also gave me inspiration. ReaperCon was awesome (I know I said this already in other threads, but I can't help myself) and I enjoyed meeting everyone.

While I am working on my exchange mini I started on this lady. The face the best one I did so far, painting eyes still gives me problems. The hair and dress have a base coat and wash.

Here is my version of the new Dark Sword Kirin miniature sculpted by the talented Patrick Keith. Luckily as part of the Kickstarter we received two of the sitting Kirin, since one is going to be part of Erato's display base I opted to use one as practice. Here is a photo of both of them before basing side by side. Even though the first one was to help me decide on colors and to test fit on the base, I went ahead and continued playing with new things and placed him on one of my new Bones II bases upside down to allow me to try my new Vallejo Water Effects and Gray Pumice. I am hoping with time the water effects will dry more clear this photo was taken almost 24 hours after application and you can only begin to see the paint on the bottom peeking through. For now I am thinking I prefer my Woodland Scenics Realistic Water and will use the Vallejo Water Effects for things like icicles and water falls. Here he is ready to hit the game table if the need arises for a Kirin mini. And lastly a close up of my second Kirin, once I get a bit more finished he will be secured on his new base with Erato. I am counting these as two for the RPChallenge this month which means I am halfway to meeting my goal of 4. For those interested in the colors used I stayed with all Reaper Paints on these two with a fairly limited palette. The only colors on them are Highlands Moss, Pale Lichen, Burgundy Wine, the Blonde Hair Triad and Pure white. I based coated them in Highlands Moss, shaded with Burgundy Wine, highlighted with Pale Lichen and the highest points are Blonde Highlight. Their manes are the blonde hair triad shaded with Burgundy Wine. And gems were Burgundy Wine mixed with blonde hair highlight in a few steps. Pure white was used as reflection points on the gems, eyes, scales and horn. Once I place the second one on his base I may revisit the highlights if needed so any C&C on him is appreciated. Thank you for everyone in the Group WIP thread for the motivation to get these completed.
