  3. Didn't see this one on here yet: Awakening - Gaming Terrain About this project AWAKENING is a project for everyone that loves beautiful models and fantasy worlds. With your support we want to create the best terrain pieces available on the market. We aim at amazing design, breathtaking details, affordable price - all cast in best quality resin you can find on the market. We are Awaken Realms - one of the biggest miniature painting studio worldwide, with a team of over 20 talented artists. After thousand of hours working on various models and terrain we know them more then anyone else. We also had a lot of experience with 3D modeling, print and resin cast. Spatial, unique designs Up to 0,0025 cm detail level Best quality resin Perfect for taking your table to next level Created from community ideas 3 thematic sets, 3 compelling stories. Unleash your imagination. Prices on the grey area shows how much you can save from retail prices after Kickstarter. Kickstarter is an amazing way not to just sell the product, but to create it with the community. In this project we want to fully exploit this amazing opportunity. We would love to hear your ideas on the terrain you would like to have. We will be choosing best ideas from the comments and make a voting on them - then we will create terrain liked the most by the community and add them as a stretch goals! You are a part of this project and we hope you will help us fulfill mission of creating best terrain available! How far this project will go depends on you. We are expecting to fully ship rewards within 6 month, with the first rewards send after 2-3 months. Those estimations can change depending on the amount of unlocked stretch goals and overall interest. Quality is our first priority at Awaken Realms. We perfectly understand that to success, we need to provide people who trusted us with great product. Below you can find some of the comments by backers from our first Kickstarter project - The Edge (we have shipped over 50% of rewards, currently finishing the production). Although it took a little longer then expected, our backers ended up with more components than initially planned. We will add full effort to ensure your satisfaction as well! Shipping prices will be calculated after the Kickstarter, based on the total weight of your order and exact location. It is impossible to do it within Kickstarter, so we will use our pledge manager system after KS. Whole process of production - from modeling and 3D print to resin cast will be done by Awaken Realms, to ensure the final quality of every single model. No third party company will be involved in the process. Risks and challenges Biggest risk factor is time of delivery of the rewards. Depending on the final size of the project, there can be maximum few months delay. It must be noted, that whole production process will be done in-house, not relaying on third party companies, which makes planning way easier. We also will give full effort in order to meet the deadlines - but in the end, devotion to quality will be always stronger then to keep the time frame. (Sorry, folks, took out the animated .gifs.)
  4. Awesome news! I recently had an idea that using miniatures and terrain pieces in the classroom setting would be way more effective than the simple PowerPoint projections of maps that I've used multiple times (I teach world history). However, to make it more useful, I decided that having everything magnetically-based would be better as it can be a vertical or horizontal learning tool. Well, my district (Colorado Springs district 11) recently sent around a notification that they had grant money available, so I pitched my idea as "Tactile Tactics." This morning, I was informed that they've accepted my grant request! I'll be using cookie sheets with maps magnetically held in place and minis with magnets in their bases. I'll be able to have my kiddos place the Axis and Allied forces in the correct countries. We'll be able to see in 3D what the phalanx formation looks like. We'll be able to see how the mountains of Greece made each polis unique. It's going to be AWESOME! As I continue working on pieces for it, I'll be posting images here. I've already ordered the Persian infantrymen from Wargames Factory on the bay! I'm also thinking I may have some of my more artistically-inclined students join in on helping to paint some of the pieces for it. If anyone's already got some experience with minis and magnets or how to effectively use minis in a vertical format, feel free to share your wisdom :=)
  5. Hi all, So... I have a short attention span. This is evidenced by me deciding to take up yet another side project- this time in anticipation of finally receiving my starter rulebook for CAV:SO from reaper this week. Reaper's CAV line is the only line of minis that are not fantasy (or 40k), and the only line of minis that I have that are not in the 25-28mm range. As such, I don't have much good terrain for them yet. I have been a fan of paper terrain for awhile, ever since discovering world works games and Dave Graffam's stuff. Upon starting to look around I also found a surprising variety of free paper building templates for a variety of scales- most of which are based in Europe. So I downloaded a few of those, and then also purchased this pdf from Dave Graffam, which allows me to make office buildings of several sizes and colors that fold flat when not in use, allowing me to store an entire city in a tiny box. Pretty awesome, especially for 3 bucks. I also found some shipping container templates. Check it out! I made almost 20 buildings in two evenings: An action shot: The terrans get ambushed! View from above: And folded (mostly) flat for storage (the folded buildings are on bottom):
  6. Just finished a small terrain element for my Frostgrave campaign (plus I'll can use it in Broken Legions games that hopefully I'll be ready to play soon). It's scratch-built, made out of insulation foam. As simple and quick construction as is, I'm pretty pleased with the result :) More pics on my blog: gabbigames.wordpress.com
  7. Its live and funded in 3 minutes!!!!! Check out the amazing stretch goals and there are still Early Bird Pledges left. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rocketpiggames/tilescape-dungeons?ref=user_menu
  8. I tried my hand at making some simple dungeon tiles. They are made from a material similar to foam core, but without the paper. The pieces are cut to size, scored with a pen, and then rolled with a wad of aluminum foil to add texture. The tiles had a tendency to curl because of the scoring, so I glued each one to another unscored piece. The pieces were then primed and given two highlights. All in all, I think they turned out really well. The project cost less that $15 and only took a few hours. Here is an action shot.

  11. Spotted this company on a video taken of the vendors at Reapercon. Their Kickstarter just launched: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1310165444/tablefullofawesome-wargame-and-rpg-28mm-terrain-wa/description Buildings of various genres for wargaming at 28mm scale. Not as detailed as something you'd expect to see from some of the premium building makers, but it is less expensive and looks to be lighter and fairly durable. This is their second attempt at a Kickstarter. While their first failed to reach funding they did fulfill orders from folks who were interested in placing one.

  13. Howdy, Once upon a time, Kev! stumbled upon a series of YouTube vids titled "The XP Hunters", which planted the seed. The result is this short test case I made... Kev!'s Stop Motion Sample The walls are Dungeon Stone. The floor tiles constructed of corrugated cardboard. The fledgling star of the piece is "Crested Felldrake" of Harbinger fame. A Hirst-Arts skull pile. A torch from a bead and Q-Tip. A bucket from card-stock. A bead painted as pottery. Another torch! A crate and barrel from card-stock. Torch #1 again! A different barrel and crate from card-stock. Torch #2 again. Barrel #2 from another angle and the pottery bead again. Crate #1, different angle. A bench made from Popsicle stick. Orc Warrior and Orc Spearfighter, again of Harbinger fame, Guard the Mage Knight door flanked by the two torches... I can do it, Kev! P.S. Shot with Sony DSC-H50, edited with Sony Movie Studio 13

  20. Seems that everyone is getting into this game, my group and I included. We have only read the books at this point, gathered our rough warbands and talked a bit about what we wanted to do with the game. I grabbed a bunch of terrain from 4Ground, awesome stuff, pre-painted, fairly easily assembled, it came in a pretty large box, happy times. A good amount of buildings. Vehicles too. I thought we needed surfaces to play on as well so I picked up two play mats from Deep Cut Studios. I went with the mouse pad material and it is pretty fantastic. Doesn't move, great color and detail AND pretty importantly it can get rolled up to save a little space around here. More to come as I get all this assembled and add a little paint.

  25. These are some resin dungeon- and garden-type stone walls. The first are from Ainsty Castings, and they were dreamy to work with. Crisp, flawless molds, tight details, and a paint-receptive surface. The second are from Novus Design Studio, and they ... weren't. There appear to have been many tiny bubbles in the master molds, causing lots of little spherical blisters on the model. The major frustration was that they were water and paint repellent. I had to jump through many hoops to get paint to adhere to their upper parts. Ainsty Castings #1001, 9 cm Dungeon Wall: #1005, 6cm Dungeon Wall Door Section (door is removable and I didn't glue it in) For scale, images with Reaper's 77131, Finaela, Pirate, and Ral Partha / Ironwind Metals Ciera, Swordmistress: Just as a brief break from walls, these are Ainsty Castings #1209, 6cm x 6 cm Dungeon Floor with Small Grill. Details: The Novus Design Studio walls came in a set of six: two each of small, medium, and long walls. Each had a plain stone design on one side and a large skull in an arch on the other. The stones were modeled completely flat. I painted up the skull decorations as if someone was keeping them crudely painted, with cream, black, and red paint. I grew tired of plain grey stones, so added a lot of lichen. The little bubble flaws from the moldmaking process I painted red and figured if anyone asked, they are little fungi.
