It has been SO long since I actually posted anything in the Show Off Forum. Since my move to Portland, Oregon, I have FINALLY gotten my apartment set up, with my painting table in front of a window with direct sunlight. So now that I got motivated, here is my first completed miniature from Portland. I was afraid I could NO longer do this.. So here are four photos: Please let me know what you think.

I have actually been painting, sadly I'm no longer as fast as I used to be. I just wanted to post a photo of two Tom Meirer Elf's that I am currently painting. I have gotten a bit ambitious as to the guards, and also the basing project. So when it is done, I will post in the show off Forum. I have gotten rather fond of the plastic vise grippers to hold the miniatures.

I decided to post what I am doing with this mini, since I just decided that I was not following my usual routine. He has been broccoli clipped, cleaned up as best I could do, and Primed. Rather than line him with my usual brown liner, I decided to use a black wash. It gives me a lot of contrast, but I don't have to paint over that usual brown. The black should work for my intentions. Nice to see all the fine details on this one. The beard makes me shiver in AN-TIS-I-PAT-ION. Tom did a magnificent job on that, as well as the right hand at the base of the staff on left side. He always sneaks in a detail you aren't expecting. I am planning on basing him on some tree bark to look like a mountain ledge, and some tree's around the base. I'll try to make sure I show my various steps to completion ! So here are a few photos of where he stands now.

I finally picked up one of my Tom Meirer Sculpts that I so dearly love to paint. The are used by me as a teaching tool. Once you know how big they are, they give you a bit of pause to paint one. I'll include a beginning photo for scale. I was doing a lot of experimenting with the reds. On some of those reds there are 20 plus coats of paint, and probably 10 different shades of red mixed together to give me the final colors. None of those reds are out of a dropper. I've worked on this for about two weeks. While taking photos I noticed that I was peeling off the edge primer (?) this is a new one for me. Maybe it has to do with the cold temp in my painting room. I corrected the slight edging flash. So Here is King Pelinore by Thunderbolt Mtn. Your comments and criticism are desired and requested. Please leave me a note about this mini. Jay

This is a 25mm mini (that's one inch tall)...I always forget to say that when I do one of Tom's mini's. This is SMALL..Very Small..LOL. I love the darn things for some reason. Tom is a fantastic sculptor, and I adore anything that he sculpts. Just realize it WILL be a challenge. I approached the Black Knight on foot (I have another mounted) with a lot of trepidation. Its complex. The shield if 1/4 by 1/4 of an inch, and that lion took a small brush, and absolute breathing control to do. So.. Here is my interpretation of the Black Knight. Your comments, and critique are greatly appreciated. Its the only feedback I get now since I no longer do the WIPs. Here is the Black Knight.

I've been working on Cersei for over two weeks. I decided to kick up my basing skills a notch, and so I selected this Tom Meirer Sculpt, and decided to give her a fitting base, and hone the painting skills a bit further. She is 25mm (one inch tall), and an incredible piece of art. I avoided the base she came with and dreamed up my own, and made it from scratch. I pulled out a couple of old skills, and built a balcony for her. I have totally enjoyed painting and basing her. As always your comments and criticism are welcome, and desired. Let me know what you think of Cersei Lannister. Jay

I thought after I posted the finished Cersei Lannister that I really should show how I created the base, and put the final touches on her. It was an amazing amount of work, since I was really clueless about what I was doing. I just knew that I wanted to show her off in the best possible light. So.. here is what I did to get her based. I used the following: 1 1 inch square plastic base. 1 1 Inch square wooden block. Cork board in various sizes. Green stuff for rocks and the top of the balcony. 1 joker from a deck of cards with a black and white pattern. Midnight black paint to fill in between the card backing and around the rocks. I printed out a banner from a medieval history website, and used a bamboo toothpick as the banner staff painted white, with a gold top crown. I also pinned Cersei so I could place her where I wanted.. Here are some photos.

As a young Nobel Woman; Elena learned that there were few that she could trust. Here joy was extreme when she was given a puppy for her very own. If only that puppy could talk ! There are some things that are hard to resist, Puppy's, Kittens, and Tom Meirer 25mm miniatures. I'm drawn to them like a moth to the flame. I was gifted this miniature by a friend, and I have tortured myself forever by not painting her. I finally succumbed. Here is my vision of "The Young Lady In Waiting with Puppy. I tend to use Tom Meirer's sculpts as teaching lessons for myself. They are intricate, and sophisticated. They can be very challenging. I chose to make it more difficult with my color choices. Orange, Bronze, and a white horse. This is a learning miniature for me. At one inch tall, this will freak you out, in one way or another. Toss in white, and you have a regal battle going on. Knight of the Flowers has been quite the trip ! I don't think I have ever used a 0000 brush as much as I have on all the little bits on here. Nor has so many details been thrown at me at one time. This is my first free hand piece of work. TWO of them. Lining on cloak, and painting the flower on the shield. I'm sure I will get better at it. I chose this wonderful sculpt because of its challenge, and for its beauty. I hope I did it some justice. I tried to make it mine, hopefully I managed to impart my vision of it. So here are some photos of Ser Loras Tyrell. Comments and critiques are solicited, welcomed and greatly appreciated.

After thirteen (13) RBG miniatures from Tre Manor, I thought I could use a break. So I opted to start a miniature that will FORCE me to really concentrate on my brush control. Ser Loras Tyrell, Knight of the Flowers, is ONE TOUGH painting experience. Its carved by my favorite T. Meirer, and the armor, and cloak back look like a nightmare to paint. So I selected it. Nothing tempted, nothing learned ! Actually scares the heck out of me; but so did all his other sculpts I have painted ! I won't be posting as many photos as I have been prior to this. I intend to take my time, and enjoy it for all its complexity. I have just put a base coat of flesh and been experimenting with the inside of the cloak. Scheme is to paint it with Green cloak interior, Blue cloak exterior, Blue-gunmetal armor, gold decoration on Armor, and I have no idea what I will do with shield, but it will have something on it. So a new adventure ! Here is Ser Tyrell with some paint sloshed on. (Edited to correct Grammar, and spelling).

This has been a huge amount of fun, and slowed down effort. This is the last of the Tom Meirer sculpts in the series I have; I have learned so much from these 25mm Minis. I pushed my envelope a bit here with color choices, and what I was seeing. I tried to develop more rich colors, and contrasts. I have gone with a simple (N.J. Sand and rock from my front yard) basing. Critique and Comments are always desired, and appreciated. Here is Sir Gawayne:

After all the fun I had with The Elf Ranger; I now go back to the Tom Meirer 25mm miniatures. I prefer to alternate between styles and sculptors; since it keeps me growing, and on my toes. With the coming Christmas Holiday and the craziness associated with that I want to hold off on an especially challenging DSW miniature I want to paint. Sir Gawayne will be a nice segue into the next one I take on. So, I just glued him together, and attached him to his base. He has yet to be primed; as I am STILL removing the (Expletive Deleted) Mold Lines. Just saw another one when I took the photos. Here is Sir Gawayne on Horse:

I've done Sir Galahad (25mm) in white. Quite the challenge on this scale. Has been a absolute delight and challenge to do. The most amazing part to me was the influence of white on colors that I had already laid down. I reworked that face at least four times, same with the hair, and with the white. Seems like I was constantly going up and down the "white-ness" scales. White is one of the colors where you are constantly assessing your values. I attach a photo of him with some other 25mm mini's I have done. Sorry to the lefties (I used to be one); they are all right handed. C and C are always greatly appreciated ! Here is Sir Galahad.
