Wizards of the Coast's Dungeons & Dragons Fire Giant Stalking the Steps This 25mm scale Fire Giant isn't humongous by today's miniature line standards but he has a lot of character. The sculptors, Chaz Elliot and then apprentice, Jason Wiebe, put a lot of great detail into this fellow. I personally love the knowing grin on his face. However, partly because of the scale and the sculpted position of the giant, I felt he wasn't set up right. So he was reposed a smidge. When I first looked him over at the work table, I held him on a slab of slate and tried to visualize him on a game board. It's fairly obvious that he was originally meant to be looking down at the puny humans before him but against the more prolific 28-32mm scale miniatures I own, he was looking at their chests or groins. So after playing around with slate pieces such, I finally figure him out. He needed his sword level. Well his arms were tight to his chest so repositioning the weapon that way would require practically resculpting him. But ... if I cut apart the integral base and and changed the elevation of his feet he looked like he was slinking up some stairs. Thus the step and repose. You can check out his painting WIP. The repositioning and base construction was done a long time ago before I was doing WIP posts. Enjoy. Added to Thrym's General Show Off List

WotC D&D Fire Giant :: Repose :: Thrym WIP #7.89
Thrym posted a topic in Works in Progress: Painting
This is another old mini that has been sitting on the shelf of shame for some time. Wizards of the Coast 40022 Fire Giant Picture from Minibase I removed the integral base. I liked his pose but not where he was looking. So I wanted to have him stalking someone while walking up a set of steps. This brings his sword parallel with the ground and has him looking forward instead of at his feet. He was primed black and his armor a Phthalo Blue when he was shelved. I cleaned off the dust in prep to resume work on him. Enjoy.- 18 replies

Speed paint of a human-looking half-orc PC for Pathfinder. I was trying to light green tint to bronzish skin, but she looks a little undead. (Needed a warmer green, perhaps?) After two attempts I had to remind myself it's a speed paint and to not fiddle. She fits pretty well on the new Reaper bases.

Omigherd, another one! O Wise Forumites, I'm looking for a human(ish) male Bones figure in some sort (light, heavy, meh) of armor that I could mod to be holding or using or leaning on a two-handed sword of some sort. Any advice? Boring background: I've somehow blundered my way into starting a new campaign with a character very similar to another I've got in Pathfinder Society (PFS). I'm using 03597, Dalyn Talas for my PFS character, and that's fine. (It's also a useful reference for the sort of thing I'm looking for!) I figured I'd just reuse him. We had our first session of the new campaign though, and while cleaning a battle mat, our GM grabbed a whole bunch of our metal minis and kind of... mushed them into a pile and shoved them off the mat. Ugh! I can have a conversation with him at some point and I'm sure he'll be fine, but I think he's used to pre-paints and I don't have a ton of confidence in him remembering to be careful with metal. I want to switch to Bones! But as far as I can tell, Bones never got any zweihander-wielding male humans (or elves) and I'm not having much luck finding someone who's in a good pose for modding such a thing. Any advice? The searches I've tried so far haven't really been successful though. I'm not having much luck finding someone who might work.
