  1. So.... Back when I first joined the forums, I found a thread about a certain Goblin painting a limited edition Ral Partha figure that I happened to own, but had been sitting in a box for 15-20 years due to the 'I'm not good enough' syndrome.... Well I decided that I Was Good Enough and set to work, as chronicled by this so as at the time of being a noob arround here, I was very encouraged by the multiple responses that I got.... such as:
  2. @ub3r_n3rd sent me a gift. A nice magnet from Las Vegas, a Bombshell Pirate Girl and a few Rackham Confrontation Minis. Besides that ( an awesome gift already) he sent me a painted version of my avatar. Many thanks Paul! I love it. It has a special place in my display cabinet ( next to George's @knarthex who had sent me a little wolf painted in the colours of my avatar a while ago) Thanks! I wanted to show it to the Forum, it deserves a Show Off.
  3. So as some of you know, I painted up a mini as a gift for our resident barbarian, to give to him at ReaperCon... (Background story and WiP Here) However, being in a hurry to get things done for Con, I never did take any show off pics.... So I asked Ub3r to take some, and he just sent them, and now I'll post them for you all to see! Thanks for looking! And thanks again Ub3r! George
  4. So to set the stage.... This noob on the forums joins a mini exchange..... the person he is painting for asks that he challenge himself by only using 1 bottle of Red, 1 Blue, 1 Black, and 1 White..... Said noob is the type that buys paints in quintads (5 paint colors) so he doesn't have to mix paint, has just learned that he can thin paint before adding it to a mini, wet palettes are the Lords of Lead's gift to a painter, etc etc.... So what does any noob to the Reaper forum do when they have a question? PMs Ub3r_N3rd.... Said Ub3r_N3rd is very nice, patient, and helpful to said noob, even though his in box is coming near to bursting from pms.... The mini gets painted to a Not Perfect, But Acceptable standard, the diorama is built, the whole thing shipped out, and received.... But, said noob feels that he is in debt to his benefactor, and wants to do something nice for him..... so while looking through the Hasslefree catalog online, which said noob also learned about from our beloved enabler, he sees a mini called "My Hero"... Problem is, I am not a girl, so the original thought wont work, painting the mini to look like me saying thanks to my rescuer.... But I bought the mini anyway, thinking maybe I could do something.... So as I got to know Ub3r a bit better, and find out things about him, I thought that maybe, I could try and do this as his wife welcoming him home.... As I did not think that she would appreciate being painted up almost sky clad, I thought that I could sculpt some clothes on her, and split the base into a mini diorama, with her on the real life side, and him as his forum personae.... Little did I know that 'drapery', putting clothes on a mini is one of the harder parts of sculpting, but I had an ace in the hole.... Enter the New England Miniatures Painters Association member and forumite Mad Jack.... I asked him at a paint day if he would take a commission, what I wanted, and what it was for, and he agreed! (I will let him make his own comments here....) He did a super duper awesome job for me and I proceeded to work this up.... There was a selected group of folks that I pm ed with a work in progress, so I am going to cut and paste that here, without their comments, they can add them themselves if they wish.... (Edit, I had to edit some stuff that was needed for this to work....) Sent 02 September 2016 - 06:38 PM OH Jack.... She is beautiful!!!!!! Here they are, right out of the package..... now i need to gently clean them, and make the base, and prime..... Sent 02 September 2016 - 07:58 PM Yeah, gotta step up my game for this... Sent 05 September 2016 - 02:15 AM So I did the base in 2 parts, a smaller fan style brick, and a courser dungeon stone for them to stand on... The plan is to have her on the fan style, with the brick painted like a tiled floor, while he is on the dungeon floor with stuff growing through the cracks etc Everything has been primed so I can start.... I forgot to mention Jack threw this in as well... It got started with some Arabic Shadow... Thanks for looking! George (Never did finish the little skull mug, but I gave it to Ub3r at the con....) Sent 06 September 2016 - 02:15 PM So, black, and we all know how much fun that is to paint.... So I am thinking Dark Blue for the dress, with Black shoes.... The barbarian will likely have some sort of tan leather pants, brown boots, and manly chest hair.... I guess that painting chest hair would be like 5 o'clock shadow? a little grey mixed in with the skin tone???? Thoughts or comments????

  6. So the mailman just brought this AWESOME piece to my door. This is the summer exchange that Ub3r_N3rd did for me. I think it's absolutely incredible; if you're involved with the 'Randomness' threads at all, there's a lot of Easter eggs in this piece for you to find. Ub3r did a really great job with this, I'm kind of at a loss for words to describe my happiness. Anyway, enough of my gushing, here's the pics: Ub3r_N3rd will be along shortly to add some more pics or link to the ones he took during the building/painting process, check back, I'm sure they'll be better than mine. Thanks again, Ub3r_N3rd.

  8. For posterity, as he's already finished I'm posting up this thread to show my WIP pics I took of him. I finished this guy up late Friday night/early Saturday morning for one of my D&D buddies, here's the WIP of him. Total time taken about 5-6 hours, calling it right at about TableTop + for me. Figure: Sir Conlan, Crusaders Sergeant, Reaper SKU #14037 Sculptor: Bobby Jackson Material: Metal Show-off Thread Black primed it all. Used Red Liner to get a deep rich red going for the shadows and base of the cloak. Also got his face done here and little itty bitty eyes placed inside under that hood. My buddy wanted some free-hand done and some kind of runes along the bottom of his robe there, so I did my best in trying to get it to look decent. I also used some shaded metallics to get the metal a dark steel. Cloak is all worked out here - amped up that red with some Reaper Brilliant Red HD and SC75's Inktensity red ink, more details done. His basing, I used greenstuff and one of my new Basius 2 pads! That's it! I was in a hurry so didn't take as many pics as I usually do. Thanks for looking! C&C are greatly welcomed and appreciated!!
  9. Hello all! To you I present this fine sculpt by Tre Manor, going by name of Dilean Softstep but used as a base for ub3r_n3rd's elf character. Mod job to make it similar to ub3r's description included cutting out the blades and crafting plasticard "kukris" curved blades; sculpting an eye-patch and horsetail. Paintjob is an attempt at the brushes by yours truly, trying to keep to the topic of a nature rogue... on a roof. Since the mini was intended for play, I designed a small diorama-vignette where the actual 25mm square base could be placed, with the intention of making it non-obvious while in place. Base is carved foam, cardboard and some bits of wood. Hanging bat is leftover putty; hook is small wire bended and glued, rope is actual cotton thread. I tried to do a design that was a slice of reality, and thought the "open" chimney space was a cool idea... in retrospective, I don't think it works as intended. As always, many things did not go according to plan or desire, but I am still happy of the outcome and how much I learnt from the piece. In the end, I hope it is displayed proudly by ub3r as a token of friendship, and that this rogue rolls true in his Pathfinder games! C&C welcomed, as usual! Now for some cell phone photos taken before the trip from Argentina to the USA... Closeup of the arm tattoo: Detached mini: Base without the mini: Mini secured for travel:
