  1. These are what I finished painting this year, a year that was somewhat abbreviated by world events. Really, this is what I painted in the last six months, since political dismay kept me from the miniatures table for approximately eight months after the last US Presidential election. This year I painted my first Reaper Warlord figures who were also my first oversized werewolves, 77754 the Rageclaw Slayer, and 77755, Aislinn, Shadow Tracker. Nearly everything I painted was for the White Wolf World of Darkness and Exalted. Help me fix these skeletons

Hi everyone, I need your help. I feel as if I am at a bit of an impasse. I am currently painting an armed force of ancient skeletons. The primary reasons for taking this project was to practice my OSL on the eyes, and trying my hand at verdigris for the first time. I love how both the skeletons and the ancient metal are coming out. However, I feel as if there is not enough contrast on the models, and when viewing them from tabletop distance, they look too... homogeneous. Do they look "boring" to anyone else? Does anyone else have a suggestion for how to fix them?
  3. These are the "Vampire Brides" from Bad Squiddo Games, which last summer came out with a line of Hammer-type horror figures called "My Last Sunrise." They are sculpted by Gus Kearns and were introduced with the tag line "Get married, they said. Best day of your life, they said." WIP thread here.
  4. A note: I use Golden Matte Fluid Acrylics and mix my own colors. All color references are to what I have mixed and sometimes how. Last summer Bad Squiddo Games had an eyeblink of a Kickstarter (I think it might have been one week) for a line of Gothic horror minis, called "My Last Sunrise". Annie the Dice Bag Lady specializes in realistic non-objectified female minis from manufacturers worldwide and has a pretty good sense of humor about it. These are three vampire brides from the assortment. They have a classic Hammer horror look to them. They were introduced in the Kickstarter as "Get married, they said. Best day of your life, they said." Anyhow, I figured I would paint them up. As ever (though I don't think I have mentioned it lately), comments and critiques are most appreciated. I'm always learning and glad to hear other perspectives. Normally I prime my minis white and wash them with Burnt Umber, a rich, dark brown. But I wanted these to look more chilly so I washed them with a cold grey mixed from Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Sienna. It does not enhance the details as much as the darker Umber. Ultramarine Blue tends to dry with a grainy texture in thin washes. In passing, I note that this looks like a pretty good crystalline rock texture and would be a fairly fast method for painting statues. C&C welcome!

    Ichabarr, the Headless Horseman

The skeletal horse bases are old GW Tomb Kings models I got off eBay. The human skellie bits are Bones models -- Ichabarr is the headless one, obviously; he was originally a Bones archer skeleton. The bases are original, but I slathered them with Vallejo Thick Mud and covered them with birch seed covers for the leaves of the forest. Overall, I am pleased!

    Zombicide Modern Abomination

Well over Minivember I had high hopes of great accomplishments. For me that entailed finishing more than one mini, 30 hopefully. Well, I failed to achieve that. I did however manage to start and finish another Zombicide mini (more actually, but they will be in another post). He was a relatively quick paint for me, and with the idea of table top. I gave the Tamiya Clear Red a try for the blood effects. I like the effect just not execution. Well with out furthur fanfare or words and such, is my Zombicide Abomination. Thanks for any C&C you feel inspired to give.

    Zombicide:BP NPC's 1 [Picture heavy]

Here is my collection of Zombicide Black Plague Notoriusly Plagued Character volume 1 I've been working on for the past few months. I now am a bit sadened that I didn't get in on the NPC's 2 as well in the KS. I did go with anything to fancy. In fact, I went straight off the artwork. I left off the blood and gore as well, though now that I got some of the Tamiya Clear Red I think I might slowly begin to bloody these up. Lets start with a group shot of the lot. Now a tease with the frisky one of the bunch. Don't get to excited she can be found chaperoned with this rather dour lady. Next up we have a traveler to these parts, who is quite eager to meet you. His traveling companion is a more on the grim side and keeps his enthusiasm in check. Lastly we have a gentlemen that is rather irate that his current return customers. Ah well, there is no pleasing some people Thanks for any C&C you feel inclined to give.
  8. Well after watching @Rahz paint up some of his Black Plague Abominations, I decided I wanted to get started on mine. So I though I'd gather up a WIP of my Journey through all the Zombicide Abominations. Modern: Season 1, Toxic CIty Black Plague: Core (x2), Wolfsburg (x2),Rat, Alpha, Troll, Blob, and Minotaur I decided to start with the Core BP set Abominations. I also wanted to try out my scale 75 F&G Unnatural Skin set. So here is where I begun.

    Six Reaper Bones

Okay so I dug around in the drawer and pulled out six unpainted bones that I got in my batch that I bought. I gave them all a thorough scrub with a brush and warm soapy water and a toothbrush. The ogre needed straightening up so I poured hot water over to readjust and then under cold to set. I attached all six using superglue to fender washer bases. I got this tip on you tube and have been sticking to it since I started this process. They are running out so I will look for an alternative afterwards. But these are good and solid and make a good base. So now I have to decide which figure to work on.... I have not primed any and up until now I have primed using "151" matt black spray paint. I did not know exactly what to use so I tried this when I began. I did pick up slightly after the photo and start to apply some blue to the Anhurian soldier using the same blue I mixed for a figure I was painting late last night. But without primer it did not seem to want to settle very well. The two figures I have seen painted are by Doctor Faust ; the hell hound and the ogre. Any comments/suggestions or generally helpful advice is gratefully welcomed.
  10. Whoop WHOOP, first part of the big commission done. They look pretty nice lined up like this I think the customer is gonna be happy!
  11. I am trying to break out of my lurker mode and post more. I have many excuses for my silence the last few months, one of which is my lack of a good photo set up. So I decided to just take crummy phone photos with the scant natural light angling in the windows across the room. I actually like the results. Especially since you can't see a lot of my poor painting as well. approaching the the hill from the pumpkin patch... Some surprises pop out if the ground. door is open but no one is home. . . Maybe check the other side of the fence BOO

  13. Hello fine people (and other assorted things) of the Reaper forum! Continuing in our project of teaming up to show you two different methods to go about painting the same miniature, Buglips and I decided that we would do a WIP thread for Con Crud, Convention Zombie from the 2017 Reapercon swag bag! He's a great little figure, sculpted by Gene Van Horne, that we thought we could have some fun with. This will be our second shared WIP thread in this series of ours, in case you missed it, check out our first one where we painted Thanis the Bonecaller: As with that one, I will be covering my usual method of painting for display, and Buglips will be approaching the figure with his own usual "fast-but-decent method." As with the last one, Buglips' method will be much faster than mine will be and you'll get to see where our two styles diverge. We will be sharing our own issues, thoughts and methods with you in the hopes that someone will find such things useful. So on to the mini! Here's my Con Crud, fresh out of his blister: I prepped him in my usual way, with some diamond files to grind off the mold lines and bit of flash that you can see on his outstretched foot and hand. He has some notable mold lines through his hair and back and down the left (his left) side of his face. I'll show you throughout the process how I'll tackle those. So here he is after I primed him with Reaper's Brush-On Primer in white, thinned down with some water. As usual, I only did one thin coat so as not to obscure the details on him and I took a couple of additional shots from different angles so you can see some of the mold lines that I'll need to work on a little more down the road.

More work on getting my groove back. I've never really attempted an aged bronze, and I really enjoyed the gemstones.

Isabella Von Carstien Diorama - GW

Greetings! I kind of finished this diorama a few years ago but have recently finished it for good with some newly aquired basing materials. I originally bought Isabella Von Carstien just to paint up as a single miniature but as her pose seemed to infer a commanding stance, I decided to expand things into a diorama by giving her an elite skeleton guard to command using a pack of GW skeletons that I had. For the actual terrain, I was inspired by a favourite old Ray Harryhausen film of mine, "The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad" where Sinbad swordfights a skeleton on a spiral staircase (which, famously, doesn't go anywhere!). It's a great scene & I wanted to create a spooky ruined spiral stone staircase for Isabella to lead from. The stonework is made from air-drying clay. I made the staircase by cutting out rolled flat wet clay "cookies" using the plastic cap off a deoderant can to create circles. I then scored lines into each wet "cookie" to create quarters & when dry, I snapped the clay into 4 quarters & tidied them up. I then glued each quarter on top of the last one leaving a eighth of the previous step showing, I repeated this until I got to the required height - I'm very pleased with how this worked out! . I then filled in all gaps between the steps to make them look like they were carved out of the stone & added some sand for texture here & there, I also pencilled in then scored some fish-scale tiles into the base. C & C are always welcome - Thanks for looking!

    Nethyrmaul the Undying (77190)

Hi all! Been a bit since I posted anything, so I'm going to spam a few minis that I've completed lately. This was my entry for the Reaper Facebook group dragon contest. He's the largest model I've done to date, and I'm pretty darn proud of him. C&C welcome and greatly appreciated! ~Magenta

    Lidless Eye Hobbies: Plague Zombies!

Started quite some time ago, before the more copyright-friendly Poxwalkers were introduced; here come the Plague Zombies! It's okay that they're different, Grandfather Nurgle loves us all. Plus, Zombies seem more appropriate for Halloween.
  18. I was happily scrounging through my mountain of unpainted minis when I started to combine some stuff. Anyway. THIS is going to happen now. It will take time so be patient ( I know you're not, but I needed to say it!) I will need a big piece of MDF, and then start thinking about adding the rest of most of the Graveyard set and other stuff to this. Feel free to steal or be inspired. I have tried this with Nethymaul but she needs more conversion to fit on the roof , mainly her tail.. And come on! Kaladrax has the right imposing look for this.
  19. After working on her for more than a year, I finally finished the Countess. Lidless Eye Hobbies: Get Spooky

I may have finished Orctober early this year, but that leaves plenty of time for other Halloween themed minis this year! All spookiness comes from the Bones 3 Kickstarter...actually, I think it's all from the same Crypt Expansion, except for one of the spirits. The full haunting: The Obsidian Crypt: The Graveyard Golem: The Spirits from Beyond: The true evil of the group, the Pumpkin Minions:
  21. Step 0 Penny ^ ...New model in blister. ^ This guy is big enough to take up the footprint of four infantry skeletons. The penny is 19mm diameter. The plan is to give the figure a 40mm square, equivalent to four 20x20 bases arranged in a square. He will count as four members of the unit he'll be assigned to.

    03575: Barrow Wight Guardian

Here's a few picks of a Barrow Wight Guardian that I started last week and only just got around to getting pics of. What's really funny is that this figure has been primed, on a base and in storage for nearly ten years. Future plans include: 1. Fresh damage to armor. 2. Free hand image on shield. 3. Weathering and rust on sword and armor. 4. Green glow from eyes, mouth, and neck of armor. Feel free to share ideas for shield image, I have no ideas right now.

    Bones Mummy Captain

As I said before, I finally have a camera (well, it's actually my wife's new smart phone) that can take reasonable pictures of miniatures. Now I just have to learn how to take good pictures (and learn how to paint ...). Here is the Bones Mummy Captain. As always, I'm aiming for tabletop standard as playing with the miniatures is the first goal. I should probably start doing more/better highlights (any other CC welcome).

    03124: Storm Steed

I painted this one up as a Nightmare from Magic the Gathering.. Well..somewhat. Part of my Undead collection, substitute for a Fell Bat. These are older pics, don't show the shadows that well...

    Mummy #77144

The undead are always fun and easy to paint. Id like to accumulate more varieties in the future. This mummy practically painted himself.
