  1. Hello again friends, below is my vision for the new Moandain, Arch Lich. Not a huge fan of the name, but I loved the concept of the sculpt when I got it in my hands. A great opportunity to work on OSL painting. He was painted with all Reaper MSP and a Reaper Round#1 brush. I realize that he's a tad on the audacious side with respect to color but after all the bugbears I've been painting, I felt like letting this lich get his nobility on. Plus, I liked the idea of his emerging from the crypt and his color changing as his form regained a solid state; perhaps his phylactery has just reached a full reboot. I tried increasing the brightness of the photos better so as to get chaosscorpion off my back for a change.
  2. Hi, I recently received the reward of another Kickstarter i backed: Dungeon Saga from Mantic. It is a dungeon crawler board game about a typical adventuring party (barbarian, dwarf, elf and mage) exploring a dungeon filled with undead and a necromancer. I really wanted to try the game, but before I felt that I needed to paint up the minis included in the base set. They are made of the regular board game soft plastic, but it surprisingly keeps a lot of details. And there is a lot to paint (between dungeon dwellers and furniture) So, my "painting strategy" was speed and efficacy. Most of the minis were simply base-coated and then applied a dark wash, with the occasional drybrush (or a bit of layered highlight on a couple of them). Also, since in the game, there are 2 identical sculpt of each minion, I tried to vary a bit the colour schemes to keep it interesting. Some minis look quite dark... but that fits with the creepy dungeon atmosphere... and dark is faster to paint too. Here are the minis: The Heroes: The Bosses: The undead minions: (love the undead dwarves) The zombies and ghosts: The Zombie trolls: Furniture and doors: In the end I'm quite happy with the result and ready to get my wife and daughter play the game with me. (until I start painting rhe various expansions...) C&C welcome
  3. Reaper's Dreg Chieftain. Given the crazy hair-do, a clown inspired scheme was clearly the way to go IMO. Part of a larger pack, pictures of which can't be posted due to nudity. More on my blog: http://minisbyfinch.blogspot.com/2015/11/zedvember-20151-ghoul-power.html
  4. Here's the Bones ghost king I finished last night. He's done to a decent table-top standard (I hope). The base was kind of messed up, so I cut him off of it and mounted him on a resin base. It's 'cursed mountain' by ID Works, but I think they may be OOP now, since the website was closed down when I tried to google them. I got 10 of them for $3-4 all together from FRP games. I added a little bit of GS at the bottom of his robes so they overlapped the base (mostly near the skulls) and he didn't look like he was quite so 'flat'. Front: Back: Close up of base: I couldn't get a decent shot of his face, but imagine a hellish red glow radiating from his eyes. It is there, I promise. What do you think?
  5. My copy of Dungeon Saga and associated extras arrived at the weekend and i have just started on some of the skeletons Here they are washed and ready to paint. They did need a bit of hot water treatment to bend them back into shape; some of them looked like skeleton limbo dancers, and they needed a foot glueing in place. I like the delicate look of the bones, and the skeleton with scythe reminds me of the old Heroquest classic.
  6. Here is a mummy of Hakir that I have been working on off and on. Nothing special, just a tabletop job for an encounter at some point. Comments welcome! George (No WiP)
  7. This is a pretty old fellow (you can see that the paint have flaked off some places due to tabletop use) that just got a new base. I never liked the "invisible man" look, so I once upon a time gave him limbs from a broken warhammer skeleton:
  8. Here is my attempt to paint up Mr Bones from KS1 in a similar color to the artwork. Basing is rather simple. I thought I would have him walking a path like he did in the KS. My Dullcote must be almost gone as there still appears to be a shine that kills the shadows, especially on the back. Well time for a shopping trip to pick up some more. If I feel the need I'll hit is with another coat of a new can and retake photos. Thanks for looking. As always C&C are welcome.
  9. My take on the Red Box Games zombies. They're painted with a generous amount of quickshade, gore and trying to follow this tutorial (but not with the patience or skill required to get the same result:). The first eight was painted some time ago. The rest 10 I recently finished.
  10. Trying a ghoul again after my repaint of the old Mage Knight Lurker This is 77053 with a head from Mantic's ghouls.
  11. Blocking in some spectral colors on this bones figure, initial step. It's my second shot at this sculpt; the first one ended in a muddy mess. :)
  12. Here are 2 quick photos, individual photos to come. Started on my computer because the phone is taking some getting used to.
  13. My second attempt at doing NMM. Hope you all like it. Please give as honest a criticism as possible for me to improve. Dont worry it is not possible to hurt my feelings, so fire away. Thankyou!
  14. My atempt to paint the Wraith Knights from Red Box Games. I've had these for quite some time but always hesitated to put paint on them (or some other mini was infront of them in line). Kind of a quickish paintjob but I'm happy where they're at. I could spend some more time on each but I would have diminishing returns. So they're finished and I'm moving on to the next batch! I notice that some of the figures collected some dirt sometime efter varnishing. Perhaps I'll go back and fix them sometime, but for now I'm leaving them as they are.
  15. Completed Ghost King. I added a good bit of "necrotic green" wash between the armor plates, over the chain mail, and to the base underneath his robe. I think it turned out pretty well. There's a few unpainted spots I can see on the pictures way down underneath, but I'm not terribly worried about them because I can't even see them when I'm holding the mini up in natural light. Camera flash is very unforgiving. Next up is the Whispering Tyrant. WIP thread here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/64985-undead-lords-2-ghost-king/#entry1243291
  16. Second member of my undead quadrumvirate; the Ghost King. I'd say I'm about 70% finished with him. Same green mix from my Lich (what I've been thinking of as "necrotic green") was used for all the places I could think of where light would leak out from the armor, robe, or skull. He may look a bit wet in the pictures, because his second coat of Reaper black ink was still drying when I took them.
  17. So here's my Lich, all painted up and ready to strike terror into the hearts of my Pathfinder group!
  18. Also finished off my Barrow Wardens. I might have gone a little heavy on the rust, but I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I might have to try thinning out the brighter rust from the Vallejo special effects so it flows into the crevaces more easily.
  19. For your enjoyment. As always, c&c welcome!
  20. For your amusement. These guys used to come two to a blister, but only come in ten-packs now. Thing 1 Thing 2 As always, c&c welcome! (You know, the more I use that smiley, the more smug it looks. I like it.)
  21. I just want to show off the non player minis I painted for my Dungeons & Dragons club over the past year. Today: everything undead Starting with zombies, I got me some that could fit in a fantasy setting: http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/zombie/sku-down/06135 http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/zombie/sku-down/03598 http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/03601/sku-down/03601 next up are skeletal warriors. I love these figures, they remind me so much of the old Ray Harryhausen movies. http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/06133/sku-down/06133 Then we got Dragoth, the defiler http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/02056/sku-down/02056 The ghost king http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/02991/sku-down/02991 And the whispering tyrant who - being quite a snap taller than average human - makes a pretty good level boss http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/60060/sku-down/60060 ...hope you like them
  22. Presenting Vito Vendetta, the undead Halfling mobster from Micro Art Studios Wolsung. Painted him purely to try out my new rust paints on his chains, probably should've chosen something simpler for a first attempt, but I think they turned out pretty good, as has the mini overall. As always, any comments or criticisms are greatly appreciated.
  23. So, I had to repaint this after ruining it with the wrong sealer (turned it snow white). Strippid it down with pine sol . While painting the grey base...I dropped it onto the concrete...right on its left eyelid ... I'm convinced he is cursed....
  24. I didn't have a good weekend with the paints. Everything I tried to do seemed to not work. I finally ended up throwing in the towel on this guy, and glopping some paint on him. I will go back and base later when I'm not fed up with paint. C&C welcome.
  25. Knocked this one out while I did the caryatid. Sometimes it's good to just get some minis painted, you know? Pretty quick and nasty, wargaming-style paint job (i.e. liberal use of quickshade ink). When I get a few more dudes finished I'll give them all some snow on their bases to go with the Ice Troll. Frostgrave here we come! Better start painting some adventurers...
