  1. The female ghost for my campaign.
  2. Also uses the base of the Ghostly summons, 77095. Put this one together from the bits of two different throne sitting minis which I found with the figure finder. Spent ages on this one. Was very difficult for me. Thought I'd have to strip it of paint and start over again, but I can't be bothered. She's got paint in her face the thickness of my thumb soon, as I could not get the eyes and skin tone right. Given up on her now. :P
  3. Been desperate to start on my Wolsung stuff, unfortunately most of it needs to be based before I can start painting, and I can't base any of it because I'm waiting on some basing stamps (to make more awesome cobblestones than I can create with my current sculpting skills). But I did find a couple I could mount on corks, Ms. Suess and a Ghoul (both from the Ven Rier faction):- Currently waiting for the Primer to fully dry, so it'll probably be tomorrow before I make any more progress.
  4. Got this cute little fellow in the mail the other day. Never painted anything this big, and wanted to show my progress and experiences. First I glued him together. Was really surprised about the fact that it wasn't actually necessary to use glue, yet I did it just in case. Then applied some green stuff in the cracks. The black stain on the base is me testing the rumor about washes not sticking to bones. And that was true. Luckily the rumor about mixing dish soap in the paint, to fix it, was also true. Never painted with dish soap before, so that was.. interesting. So then I covered him in a basecoat of gloss varnish, before I painted white over the green stuff, and gave him a nice wash of dark, purple ink. Once that was almost dry, I started adding a dark blue wash: Painted in the flesh, bones and eye. Also applied a drybrush of dark blue: One more drybrush and pondering on how to continue the wings: Edit: This capable young lady will be the rider:
  5. Tried a few different styles for these guys. I prefer the two on the left (if you ignore the horrible basing job I did on them).
  6. Had this fellow finished for some time. Hard to take decent photos of it since it's so big: I used this blue and purple snake as my inspiration for the color scheme:
  7. Back in my teens, I used to finance many of my Warhammer purchases by commission painting for other people. I got to paint some cool stuff, and bought a hell of a lot of Space Marines (most of which are still unpainted to this day(!) One of the kits I painted for other people was the stuff from the MD8 Skeleton War Machines box set, which was the eighth in the Machineries of Destruction range. As with my old Dwarves, I only ever had a couple dozen of the old Undead models, and sold off most of them back in the day, excepting a few (exactly as with the Dwarves). Since Marouda's "building" an Undead Army for KoW (as fast as I can paint it for her) and I've been following Subedai's blog for a couple of years, I've gotten inspiration for various bits and pieces. Recently, he showed off his Plague Cart, which triggered something in my pea brain and sent me to eBay looking for some of the cool old Undead kits I painted back in the day. While I haven't been completely successful so far, I've managed to get a few pieces at least. Here's the first of them: The Skull Chucker (also alternately known as the Screaming Skull Catapult before that new TK kit took the name). Yep, there are some "mistakes" and missing bits there. First and most obviously, the crew are "wrong", and it's missing the Skull Ammo Pile. It was sold on eBay with two loaders and a spotter, but not the bonehead who fires the catapult. Still, the price was ok, and shipping from the UK was decent rather than exploitative (both real concerns when you're here in Australia) so I figured "good enough" and got it anyway. There was a ton of old superglue encrusted on the launcher arm and frame, and the arm was glued slightly up at an odd angle. Also a fair bit of old, old flash and extruded bits of lead to clean up. No big deal though. I used a bit of greenstuff to get a good bond when reassembling, and then noticed that both braced were missing from the kit. D'oh! Now luckily I'd just bought some undead Tomb Kings stuff off a guy locally, and I'd literally just received the bag of bits that he'd "forgotten" (cough) to send out with the other stuff a week earlier. I thought it would be worth checking through to see if there was something appropriate in it that I could use to fix up the Skull Chucker. Now the bits bag was actually filled with cool bits (it was a big reason why I bought his stuff). and it included several of these ...banner poles(?) After cutting them down, they turned out to be a great fit, and the socket cutouts with little embossed skulls on the joins worked perfectly as replacement pieces. I should make up a replacement Skull Ammo Pile. It was one of the first things I thought of, but I completely forgot about it until now. Shouldn't be too difficult, at least. They look like they're supposed to be there, so as fas as I'm concerned, Job's a Good'un. For the paint, I stuck to Marouda's chosen Undead palette. Bone/Black/Brass/Iron with deep Red and some Aqua (verdigris) as the spot colours. My style of painting bone might be a bit bright to be properly realistic but it pops nicely on the table. The crew provided me with some stuff to work on at work last week. I'll have to prepare some new models to work on for this week's lunch breaks now. It's like an extra deadline each weekend. Eurgh. Undead Stone Skull Thrower and Orc Bolt Thrower. Back together for the first time in a long time. It's nice to put the recently-completed war machines side-by side for a shot. Back in 3rd Edition WHFB, I used to regularly summon Skeletons as allies for my Orc and Goblin army. They often just stood in lines breaking up the line of sight between my Orc units so they wouldn't kick the crap out of each other via failed animosity rolls. Now that's something I don't miss in KoW!
  8. The villainous Primus Death by Enigma Miniatures, been after him for a couple of years but he always seemed to be out of stock. You can find his WIP thread here Had great fun painting this guy, and I'm really happy with how he turned out. Comments and criticisms are, as always, very appreciated.
  9. Okay, so I'm probably going to go either this afternoon or tomorrow and pick up a wooden oval base and cork [to be sea rocks on the base] to put Coraldrax on. I had a few questions, as I've never constructed a cork base...is hot glue okay to use? Should I use a different glue to hold it together? What do you recommend to cut it? Xacto knife? Figured I should ask this before going to pick up supplies haha Coraldrax: Main thread with more pictures: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/54577-coraldrax-sea-kaladrax/
  10. One more from my Undead Regiment, http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/60959-undead-regiment-in-a-swamp-mixed-manufacturers/ The Barbarian Zombie, Made by Grenadier.
  11. Yeah, I know, I should actually finish some of my WIP threads before starting more, but this guy was just too cool! Plus, I wanted to know if Enigma minis are fun to paint, so I can buy some more. I give you Primus Death:- No major assembly issues, the cover for his tummy furnace didn't fit too well but think I did an okay job filling the gaps. He's also supposed to have a chain attaching his wrist to his axe, but I don't think the figure loses anything in its absence (I could glue it to my fingers, but not to the mini). At the moment he is just undercoated and washed in brown (I've managed to get out of the habit of doing this to all my minis, but I really wanted to read the inscription on his tombstone).
  12. This zombie comes from Enigma miniatures, Zombie horde (5):
  13. Here's one of the things I was working on before I came out to [CLASSIFIED]. Enigma's Forgotten Warrior. (Liberal use of Pumpkin Orange in his man-skirt.) As always, C&C welcome!
  14. And the archers. These are from Mirliton ( I think). They are slightly larger than the original Grenadier ones
  15. Two more members of the horde. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/60959-undead-regiment-in-a-swamp-mixed-manufacturers/ The one with the twohanded axe is from Grenadier. The one with axe and shield is probably from Harlequin, Though I'm not exactly sure. He's been around for years EDIT: I found him, He is actually from Mirliton. Newer cast.
  16. The Command Group. Carrying the Battle Banner. Mummy Captain, Ghoul Drummer and Zombie Banner Bearer.
  17. Again two more ( tired yet of this Undead invasion?). Ghost is from Harlequin, Zombie from Grenadier.
  18. Three more from the Undead Regiment. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/60959-undead-regiment-in-a-swamp-mixed-manufacturers/ These are from Otherworld Miniatures. Very nice detailed mini;s. I painted the snake symbol as a freehand again. And again reds and or purples as the Vampire Queen's Heraldry. Enjoy ( I hope).
  19. And the last one of the Undead Regiment. The Mummy Warrior. Another great vintage mini from Grenadier ( noticed I'm fond of those did you?).
  20. The Champion and some of his warriors ( I think I posted one of them already separately.)
  21. Here is the Vampire Queen herself. She has a Magic Sword guarded by her Crow familiar. Her faithful undead servant lights the way. I tried a bit of OSL on the servant, my first try. I don't think it worked out that well, but you gotta try right? The familiar and sword are from Reaper, pack X. The Vampire and Servant are from the Freebooter range, sculpted by Werner Klocke. Sorry about the quality of some pics, still struggling with the camera.
  22. Two more of the horde, These were made by the now deceased Harlequin company. Again the snake and purple / red colours. Swamp based, water effects are Vallejo Still Water. Enjoy.
  23. I wanted to share this mini. It's among my top ten favorite miniatures that I have gotten. Just so morbid and horrible. In the style of the Braindead movie. :) Linked offsite due to a nipple showing. See it here.
  24. And this is my regiment of Undead I'm working on. This is the Vampire Queen ( or maybe just her sister I haven't decided yet). She conquered a swamp, so she got an army of Undead and all kinds of swamp creatures. Right now she has to deal with an uprising of some of the swamp dwellers. Here she ( or sis) leads her regiment of mixed undead warriors to battle. All in her heraldry of reds and purples, with the snake symbol to show she owns the swamp.
