  1. This is the undead leviathan from the Arcworlde KS from Warploque Miniatures: He is big and still need a good base. I think I will make another picture with a reaper mini to have a size comparison.
  2. Well, here's the big Dracolich from Reaper. His base is a CD- I sculpted some rocks to match the rocks that the mini was already standing on. I'm really quite fond of this mini- dragons and zombies go together quite well,a nd his rotting flesh was a real joy to paint. You might not be able to tell from the photos, but the red areas are glossy, making him seem more fresh. Also, I posted him to CMON for anyone who cares to vote.
  3. This isn't a new figure. In fact I painted it about twenty-five years ago (bloody hell!), but I've left it since then gloss varnished and sans-base. I've finally got around to giving it something of a scenic base, and squirting it with matte varnish. Never let it be said that I rush things. It's a Grenadier figure, I believe, and stands about 70mm tall from foot to crown. I've never actually used it in a game, and I really should remedy that.
  4. I got Scuttlebones, so I've started painting him! His base is a modified Corpse Field base from Secret Weapon. I'm turning corpses into coral covered rocks I'm going ot painting him like a Sally Lightfoot Crab why? Because I like making undead things all colorful and pretty! It makes the fact they're undead all the more tragic! [like my Nethyrmaul!]

"On the coast of the vast sea there once stood a mighty kingdom, its walls of white marble shining in the gleaming light of the sun that would rise over the sea every morning to bathe its pearly walls. Great, colorful mosaics decorated every flat surface and fabulous ornate carvings were etched wherever possible But it was not to last...for one day, with the rising of the sun, there came a great wave. A leviathan of the sea rose from the raging froth and breakers, a horrendous skeleton! It was encrusted as if it had once been part of the sea floor, and this monster tore the city and broke its white walls. Upon its ruins he crouched, reclaiming land that had once been his, centuries before..." I wasn't sure what I was going to do with Kaladrax when I first got him...there several ideas poking around in my head, but I definitely knew I wanted to do something different. The softness of the rocks, the smooth roundness of them, made me think of erosion. So I thought....either desert themed, eroded by constant sand-filled winds, or coastal themed with the tide line. I went coastal. I bought my very first batch of green stuff and tried it out, and then heavily decorated Kaladrax and his base with it to make sea weed, sponges, star fish, and more. I added sea themed mosaics to the white marble of the ruins, and a few old chains. Stingrays, a crab, octopus, and a few sea gulls are hidden around the base as well.   6. This was by far my favorite of all the bones minis to paint thus far, and my first time experimenting with making my own washes. I used GM Mechrite Red thinned down to get the sort of crusty, infected skin effect over top of all the stitches, and I think it turned out ooookay!
  7. After spending so long on some contest entries, I decided to whip up a quick monster type. Didn't realize he was supposed to be a flesh golem when I started painting; just that he was some sort of freaky undead. This one took two afternoons.
  8. Started on this piece while I am planing a new diorama. Now that I'm looking at it, the bandanna is the same color as the crabs. I think I will change that.
  9. I started out by giving the necromancer a couple shades of ink washes as a way to get to know the sculpt. In doing so I've found details that I would have missed. There was a seam that fell on a skull eye socket. With some work it looks better. The real work started with the cape. A chaotic red solid. Then came some tinting of it and painting in layers of shadow folds. I used a drop of Green Tone Ink to tint my red. By using green, the complimentary of red, it helps punch down the color in a more natural way to my eye. Adding black or black ink would shift the value of the red down but the green does that and adjusts the hue a little bit. Another layer of shadowing. More of the same one drop shadow Then some straight Dark Tone Ink into the deepest folds. Two passes of that. After about four layers and deeper tinting it was on to the highlights. This was just by introducing some [Ti] White to the straight Chaos Red and brushing on the high points and then dry brushing the highest highlights.
  10. Here is my King of Ghouls. My goal with the miniature was to create a skin tone that was indicative of an ancient and powerful undead horror. This ghoul has survived countless challenges from untold parties of adventurers. Primitive stitches hold together damage to his skin, whilst unnatural healing takes place underneath it's surface; hinted at by his menacing eyes. "It's skin, is that thing alive or dead...?" - Alric the cleric (shortly before death) The pair of ravens, his liaisons, his scouts, and his scavenging companions...one of whom carries the eyeball trophy of a recent challenger. Stoically one raven watches for challengers while the other celebrates the trophy. I wanted the NMM on the scythe and his little bits of boot armor and belt to look well-aged while still hinting at their unbelievable worth and functional status. I opted to use static grass on the base in conjunction with painted earth and rocks that compliment his overall color scheme. The goal of the grass is to juxtapose this powerful undead by contrasting his long-lived undeath with the appearance of surroundings that are fresh and healthy. There's a beautiful piece of AD&D 2nd ed artwork, I think from the Monstrous Compendium with a unicorn(?) and a skull or something like that and I had that idea in the back of my head. The colors I used include only Reaper MSP: dark elf shadow, jungle moss, faded khaki, dusky skin, pure black, dark skin, woodstain, maggot white, driftwood, blood red, magenta, auburn shadow, blue-grey paint sample, misty grey, pure white, oiled leather, mahogany, sun yellow.   11. I took a break from Bones to assemble, prime and paint these astoundingly beautiful undead boogeymen. Assembly was a pain because, while it was actually very simple, Tre sculpts smaller than I can SEE. As a result there was some ham-fisted smooshing, and two of these guys got Bones swords just to make it easier. These were all primed with a medley of Reaper Black Primer and Vallejo Airbrush Black Primer, all brushed on. Currently I prefer the Vallejo, just because it goes on with no thinning, quick and easy. Armour was lightly drybrushed with API Greedy Gold, trying for a bronze or gilt ancient grave-goods look. Their frilly frocks, ah, robes, were variously washed, glazed, drybrushed or wet-blended, each colour got a different treatment, all MSPs. I am working my way through a quick-and-dirty OSL for "glowing ghostly bones" using MSP Lemon Yellow, Moth Green, and Pale Green. Some of the robes got a new treatment, using GnG KS1 brushes. These have decent quality sable in a crappy quality brush, so they're quite nice for priming, drybrushing, and stippling. I used stippling as part of the "illusion of blending" on the green robes, which you can't see very well, but it worked nicely.
  12. Here is the fine undead captain from Super Dungeon Explore. I rather enjoyed painting him- especially the trimming. He turned out just a bit darker than most of my SDE, but I feel that this is working well with the undead feel. I'll have to give someone pink hair to make up for it.
  13. Lot of fun painting this one. He appeared to be a lost and corrupted king, very sad story. So I wanted him to have more of a royal look to him and gave him yellow/gold and purple which for some reason I always think of when I picture royalty. Hope you enjoy. :)
  14. This weekend I got into a painting mood and finished several pieces, a great worm and a stone golem, and started several skeletons, ghouls, and golems. I started this one and the Banshee last year and wanted to try something different. I started out with a white wash base coat from Apple Barrel white and Reaper's flow improver, took two layers to get a good coverage. I then washed it with GW's Thrakka Green and proceeded to leave them for months. This weekend I finshed this one. I did a heavy drybrush of Meadow Green to knock down some of the green glossyness. For a different spectral theme I decided to throw some purple into the color scheme so I used GW's Leviathian Purple wash. To tone down the glossiness of the wash I then finished it off with a drybrush of Mossy Green. At this point I'm not sure if the original green wash is contributing anything to the palate. For the skeletons, my wife suggested a tarnished penny look. So I mixed some Meadow Green, Ancient Bronze and Redstone. The Redstone made it too red so I added a bit of Mossy green and a touch of brown. It looked ok but didn't really make them stand out so I hit them with the tarnished brass. Not the tarnished penny look but I like it, again it's a different direction. For the base I layed down GW's Charadon Granite and followed it up with a drybrush of Noir Black. I intended to do a light drybrush of Maggot White but it came out too heavy so I did a light drybrush of Noir Black and another light drybrush of Maggot White. I think it made for a nice depth look. My phone camera's flash makes it look like there is more white showing through then is really there but in the base photos you can get a better idea of the look.

  16. So I've been working for about two weeks on this guy, though I'll be the first to admit that I didn't have much time to actually sit down and paint. It is the translucent "Night Spectre," my goal was to have the face and claws stand out - they're very hard to see in the translucent mini if you don't already know they're there. I retained a lot of the translucency with Tamiya Clear Green and Clear Yellow
  17. A cloaked zombie by Studio 2 Publishing. Taking pics when a mini is nearing completion helps in spotting problems that might otherwise be missed. In this case I've redone the right eye and touched up the one hand since these were taken.
  18. Here is a Vampire Counts army that I've recently painted (as a commission). I was rather happy with how they turned out, especially the degrading metals on the cavalry. This client has sent me more batches of these, so I'll get more pictures of those later. Honestly, doing all of these Vampires makes me want to put together a Mordheim warband of them.   20. The first of my many unpainted Heresy zombies has gone under the brush. Moved to action by the continuing Zombtober project.
  21. Finally got around to finishing my tomb guardians. Basically got to the point of "good enough, calling them done". I'm considering building up a small Nefsokar army, so I don't want to go into too much detail if I have to paint several more mummies. I do wonder if I should put some more highlights on the faces, though.
  22. My last 2 I think for the Fall/Halloween contest. First the Nightspectre. To retain translucency I first gave the whole figure a 'primer' coat of matte medium. When that dried, I washed/glazed the entire thing with reapers Clear green. Followed by a drybrushing of pale green. The skeletons I did in tanned skin, washed with tanned shadow and highlighted with linen white, followed by a light glaze of a mix of clear green, pale green and linen white. the dirt is intense brown, with a bit of a glaze nearest the heart, and a drybrush over top with the remaining pale green mix from the skeletons. All in all, I am pleased with how this one came out. the Ghost. I am less pleased with how he came out. Mostly a mix of sapphire blue and linen white with a touch of snow shadow added in. A reminder that I really need to work to improve my blending between layers.
  23. Hey all. Over the past month I kind of dropped everything to get a bunch of minis done for my Iron Kingdom's game as it was winding down to the last few months and I had bought this stuff specifically for the game so I figured I had better paint them up. Most are from the Iron Kingdom's line by Privateer but two are from Reaper's Savage World line. So starting out is Father Dumas (one of the main NPCs) Next up is Vahn Oberen (the main Villain) Now for the generics: A Boneswarm Some Bone Fiends from Reaper And finally a bunch of Tomb Maidens that were each painted a different way that you can see in my WIP thread (link in sig)
  24. I'm getting some proper photos of the minis I've painted on my holiday this last week and a half, now that I can finish the bases and have access to a real camera. So, here's my Bones zombie: Nothing very fancy, but I wanted to see if I could get a good scheme for batch-painting. Mostly drybrushing and washing, with a light purple glaze at the end. I'm pretty pleased with the result, even if I did end up botching his right eye when I tried to "fix" a tiny little mistake. You know the ones that are almost imperceptible, but you can see them because you know it's there, and you assume everyone else can too? The ones that can screw up an otherwise perfectly fine mini when you try to do something about them? Yeah, one of those. In the end, I didn't think one little zombie was worth trying to keep re-fixing my fixing, so I called him done.
  25. Fellow hobbyists, tabletop gamers, and rpg fans, Firstly I'd like to introduce myself as I am new to the forums. My name is Paul and i like painting and building miniatures and terrain along with designing game systems. If anyone is on the miniwargaming forums, board of the living lead, dakka dakka, or rpg net i go by the same name [oddeye]. This may be a unusual post in the WIP section as most people are posting up only painted miniatures, I am posting up a work in progress of a entire game that I have been creating in my free time over the last 8 months (100% free to download, i do ask for any feedback that you may have though so i can improve on the rules, link is provided below). As the title states my game is based around surviving hordes of zombies with many different armies available with a fantasy and modern version, some armies available to play are: us army, ww2 wehrmact, survivors, knights, hordes of undead, zombies, pirates, dragons, and samurai just to name a few. There are many pictures of fully painted miniatures, custom terrain and artwork along with some youtube videos already available for your viewing pleasure. I am also working on a full role playing pen and paper version as well based off the table top war game versions.
