  1. So I was gonna wait to post any WIPs until I at least finished LTPK2 but I picked up a few of the chibi Bomesvylian’s and decided to to skip ahead of the LTPK2 a bit and give Lou a try, mostly cause his creepy little face is so adorable! I primed him with 2 part blue liner to 3 part white primer so I could see the details better and to hopefully cover any errors I may make when adding shadows. My goal is for him to be mostly purple with bright green wings and tentacles. I saw a WIP Lou on this forum a while ago with the same colors and just loved it so I’m totally stealing the col
  2. So i started this piece for a competition over on Reddit and didn't finish in time. I feel like I should be able to make a final push to get this done in one sitting, but I can't for the life of me figure out what the base is supposed to be. The bare metal looks like it's supposed to be a stump, however the two wedge shaped bits (picked out in grey) and the lip under the surface that she's standing on don't make any sense. I just can't wrap my head around that last bit to get this done and no one seems to have painted this and posted picks anywhere for me to use as reference. Anyon
  3. Malifaux Viktoria of Blood For Hobby Hangout Resolution contest and Jan/Feb Resolutionary Painting. These are the Done, but not Finished images. Hence WiP and not Show Off. Ill post some other WiP images as i clean up my phone. She was a serious pain to assemble. And painting assembled was also painful. Not a good combo for sanity, but an interesting figure.
  4. So, I am working on some new techniques (new for me), specifically, Wet Blending. It's pretty noticeable on the ribbon on the back of her cloak, but I was trying to do it on her legs too, to blend up from Tanned Skin, all the way to fair highlight on the highest points. I am noticing though, that even fair highlight isn't enough of a highlight at this point, and I"m wondering if there's something else that I can blend with it to make even more of a highlight? help or tips, or constructive criticism is welcome. Thank you.
  5. So been painting a bit, got a few things done but mostly stuff that's not quite as important and stuff I feel I have a decent grasp on so I haven't posted anything. Also had a weekend at @TaleSpinner and he showed me some stuff, which was quite helpful. The guy I did the Minotaur for has a figurine of wondrous power and we picked up a gryphon for it on the way to the game. I've been working on it a bit the last week or so. I'm pretty happy with it more or less, but I'm not sure what else to do with the wings. I'm basing it on a Golden Eagle, which is mostly brown but
  6. Hello all, Starting a new WIP for a mini I'm working on for one of the players in my D&D 5e campaign. One of her characters is a Tiefling Eldritch Knight, so I have selected the glaive-weilding S'Kara to be the starting point for this project... As you can see, I have just begun. I have primed the mini, and used a pair of pliers to slightly curve her horns, to achieve a more ram-like, less devil-like look. I'm currently in the process of selecting colours for the cloth portion of her outfit. Any suggestions or ideas?
  7. I was told that my early Orctober project did not count, as I had finished it last month. So, I decided on the last minute addition of some Ork-derived Poxwalkers to go with my current Nurgle Chaos Space Marine project: Parts are from the Warhammer Orks and Orc lines, the Nurgle Plaguekings, and the old Mutation sprue. Mostly.
  8. The most recent project has been a return to working on my Nurgle forces for 40k. I'd been finishing up some Plague Zombies I had started before 8th even hit...I'll have more of these guys in the army than the actual Poxwalkers: They were a bit cut out, but you can see the also in progress vehicles in the background. From some fun sales events, I have the bits for so so many Mantic Zombies sitting around, and plan on diversifying the Pox horde to represent most of the 40k forces post-life. Distraction, however, arrived in the form of Marine reinforcement! I love the fact that th
  9. For the most recent works in progress, a gigantic distraction from my poor Death Guard project. In the last week, multiple delayed Kickstarters (and one on-time Nickstarter) arrived...as well as the ReaperCon Swag Bag! Arrivals included: Stonehaven Miniatures Giants Stonehaven Adventurers 2017 Midlam Miniatures "Winter Adventurers" Reapercon Swag Bag Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago Nickstarter While I am trying to complete the Death Guard, I did ready these groups for prime time: The Giants are nicely sized. While there are some issues wi
  10. All these Zombies I've been working on lately have got me wanting to get to started something a little less speed painterly. So I decided to pick up my Christmas Elves from my reaper order over Christmas and get working on them. I got into the grove painting up the naughty elf so all I have is where she stands now. I liked how she was painted up in the store so I used that as my start. Here is how she looks at the start of the WIP: And of course here is the nice one patiently waiting in primer to be started:
  11. So I've been stressing a lot over Life Things (but probably good things). Before going back to my super detail heavy awesome figure, I'm doing a figure for my D&D campaign. I'm using this one as one of the princesses who happens to be a wandering bard. I filed her ears down to be human instead of elf. I think I put a bit more highlighting on the face and chest after these pics, and I put on a hideously bright green for her main clothing bits.
  12. Last night in an insomnia fueled start on the painting, I got to laying some basecoats on this conversion. Then a few color layers on the ground and sticks as well as the wolf's fur. Still a lot of work ahead on this one. Wont be picking it up again for a few weeks though. Will update post then. Original post in "Conversions" board (where you can see what I sculpted onto the Reaper Bones Warg)
  13. Working on a belated bday/doubling as holiday gift for a friend and DM. This was originally one of the "Nozgul's Marvelous Unpainted" human wizard minis. Img link (one on right). Converted it to better resemble friend's character: A heavyset archanist archwizard who is generally jolly, high, and giving out magical candy. The character also has lots of pockets and satchels with assorted items and goodies. He's basically the DM's avatar in game to point players in the right direction. Anyway, his arch wizard character was taken prisoner at one point and trapped inside a
  14. Well after watching @Rahz paint up some of his Black Plague Abominations, I decided I wanted to get started on mine. So I though I'd gather up a WIP of my Journey through all the Zombicide Abominations. Modern: Season 1, Toxic CIty Black Plague: Core (x2), Wolfsburg (x2),Rat, Alpha, Troll, Blob, and Minotaur I decided to start with the Core BP set Abominations. I also wanted to try out my scale 75 F&G Unnatural Skin set. So here is where I begun.
  15. Why oh why did I read that forum entry? Sigh. I don't really have the time because I want to finish stuff for reapercon but I thought to myself... what's the harm in rolling and just seeing what colors I get. I can always procrastinate and never get it done like everything else... double sigh. kyphrixis needs some love. he's languishing in my box of bones. So... that corresponds to: 6, 1, 10.... Crap. Do you see the ginormous amount of chroma saturation in these colors? The sheer magnitude of intensity here staggers the Corporea mind. I mean...
  16. Hello all! I'm really trying to learn about sculpting for miniatures and here's my current project: It's a Golem from artist Chris Walton It's just at the Armature phase right now but i've started to block in my major shape masses. I'll post that when i get a bit further. Any help/suggestions/direction on how to make this more viable for print at around 30mm would be most appreciated! All the best, Andrew Cothill
  17. Ok I decided to give this a go, with no expectations of actually succeeding. Also, rather than spam @SparrowMarie thread I thought I start my own. Day 1 and Day 2 were me painting up 2 of 5 Bones Ghast in an attempt at using the shaded basecoat method. Each took about 2-3 hours and I didn't clean up one much. I then decided that they need a better base so I threw the 5 on a base and added some sand and stone to the existing base. I then decided that I wont include painting the base in my modification to the challenge. Day 1 and Day 2: Day 3: Today I didn'
  18. Heya! Just started two new projects and I am excited to share. I didn't know which one to do first so I prepped them both. This is my first time at a resculpt. Nothing major. I covered the mold lines on Yephima's hair and on her back. For the chipmunk mage, resculpted the tortoise shell because I didn't think there was enough definition. Also I had to fix the scroll because there was a hole. I am undecided on the color schemes, but for Yephima I am thinking a clouds at sunrise palette. Any thoughts from you folks?
  19. This is a scale question. Specifically on the big guys in the back. When I had started roughing out the wireform and slapping a little base putty on them, I had the idea of Trolls in armor. Now that I'm looking at them compared to some reaper conversions, I'm thinking they might end up having to be giants, demons, or something else. What do you think would fit for those figs at the scale they are? Prefer DnD themes if you think Troll wouldnt work. Also, open to weird fantasy creatures as long as they fit the scale and are tall and wirey. These aren't for any game/
  20. I decided that since there's no time limit, that I'd give this fun challenge a go. I didn't notice the screenshot requirement until it was too late. I originally rolled: 10 - Imperial Purple 19 - Pure Black 19 - Pure Black Thankfully doubles get resolved and the second 19 - Pure Black, became: 11 - violet red Which I didn't have, but the handy comparison chart allows me to use Vallejo Game Color 14 - Warlord Purple, which looks very close to the Reaper color. I looked at the P3 Beaten purple, but it's a
  21. Just a bunch of Eastern myth themed minis, mostly from Bones III and one Kenku/Tengu Monk from Stonehaven. Oh, and some Myconids from Ganesha Games and Bones III plant monsters. More Mario than myth, I suppose. Oni close-up: Kitsune close-up: I like the male Kitsuine a lot more than I was expecting. His pose, with all its swagger, adds a lot of character. I also hadn't noticed the sake cup he was holding until I started painting.
  22. Time to start painting again. Figured I'd pick up where I left off, and that is with (the old) Learn to Paint Kit #5. The dwarf is painted, but I never got around to the paladin before moving cross-country. So here she is, bare: And primed: I thought posting a WIP would help me track my progress a bit better, and force me to not chicken out of finishing her up. I'm still a beginner, after all.
  23. A coworker buddy found this guy at a thrift store under "knickknacks". Yay! Or, I should say, "Ia-ee!" :-) But I got slightly blocked on painting him. He's been sitting on the kitchen table unfinished for about a month. So I thought I'd post him to unblock myself. I haven't decided whether I'm going to keep the base he came on... it looks kind of beachy, which is neat, but I feel like more could be done. One concern I have about the figure is that its base is only about 4-5" across, while the Pathfinder's Cthulhu stats show a 40' Space, and I like the base to match that
  24. So I'm DMing a group of D&D 5E where we've played the Tyranny of Dragons storyline for the last two years now. We're around session 80ish now, and my group is near the end, where I want them to encounter Tiamat herself. As I've used miniatures for all encounters so far, I need a Tiamat figue. When I saw the amazing WIP and Show-Off threads from Sirithiliel last year, I knew I had found the "miniature" I needed. Thank you for the inspiration, Siri. The model is called "Lysander" and is produced by Toscano. It's made out of some kind of resin and is pretty fragile (especially the horns).
