  1. Been working on this guy lately. Trying to knock the dust off my brushes a little. The pics are fair but I need to still purchase a photo box so cell phone it is.. I gave him a beard cause he wanted one. He will add to my unending pile of crusaders, but at least he will have some paint:)

    Reaper warlord marilith/ Snake Demon

Here is my latest work, the metal Reaper Warlord Marilith snake demoness. I tried to give her an otherworldly appearance with smooth blue skin and lava-orange serpentine scales. For her clothing/armour I used gold as it has something of a Mayan or Aztec look.

    Gorak the Ravager, Warlord

I've been hitting a slump in my painting that's been keeping me from these forums for quite a while. I'm trying to regain my rythm and getting some pieces done. This is one of them: Gorak the Ravanger from the Warlords Miniature Lines. He was supposed to be a stand in for my current monk character in a DnD5 game, although I'm having second thoughts. Still love the miniature though. Seems quite angry :)

    Some Warlord Dwarves

Here's a few of the dwarves I've been painting up. Reposted with some better pictures this time. There's more but this is plenty for one post.

    Crusader Group Shot

I was playing around this evening with photo equipment and software and took some pictures of these guys. They were all painted over 10 years ago, back when Warlord was young, but I never took any proper pictures of them until now. There are a few more photos on my blog.

    14106: Dark Maiden

I've always been a fan of the Dark Maiden sculpts and started painting the standard Warlord version last month. The idea that I had for her was a bit more lively than the version DKS has up on the store page. Rather than being all ghostly I had a more lively animating spirit in mind. I painted her upper body in a fairly normal manner and then blended her dress down into wood. She's still animated though, so her skin is not actually painted with normal "skintones." Instead it is painted using the same paints that I used for the normal wood, just mixed together a bit differently. Speaking of wood, there is quite a lot of it to paint. If you ever want to get some practice in this is a good choice. I also wanted to try out a sea base. I have had very little experience using water effects and gave them a go. After an initial layer of Realistic Water to cover the paint I added some water effects. They didn't look too bad so I added on another layer to give the water even more depth. That actually worked ok, at which point I decided to attempt sea foam. I'm not as much of a fan as to how the sea foam is looking. The water effects seem like they can be cut away and redone, but just in case that messes everything up even more I've gone ahead and taken some show-off pics. If the operation is a success (and I remember) I'll update this thread next week. But just in case I don't, ignore the white and you can imagine what the sea looked like in a time before foam. Can you tell I'm posting while half asleep? Here's the post-op pic. Most of the foam is now gone and the cut away areas can be repaired easily enough. I didn't cut right up against the mini since I didn't want to scrape away any paint.
  7. Hello there Reaper pips. This is my third try using NMM technique. I would greatly welcome any critiques to help me improve. As usual please be as brutally honest as possible as it is not possible to hurt my feelings. Thank you very much in advance.

    14453

Heya Got inspired this weekend. I present for your viewing the Elven Hunting "Cat" 14453. I am not sure how I am going to base the army hence the just brown base. I'm going for a fantasy look on this force, it's for my Spawn. She wants dragons and magic looking things. Hence the color.. This was a fun paint. I like painting beasties.. There are colorations of his fur, but cell phone cameras being what they are and missing lightbox. Excuse the bad photos..
  9. On one of my trips over the border to the lovely "Atomic Empire", I found a piece that will probably be announced for Bones IV now that I've bought it, "Skadi, Dwarf Goddess". At least she was discounted! She struck me as the perfect Giant rather than a Dwarf Goddess I may never use in an RPG encounter. I already had several female Frost Giants, and her whole forge theme seemed to strike me as more of a Fire Giant thing. So, here we have, Skadi, Fire Giant Priestess of the Forge!

    14016: Judas, Necropolis Warlord

My second attempt at doing NMM. Hope you all like it. Please give as honest a criticism as possible for me to improve. Dont worry it is not possible to hurt my feelings, so fire away. Thankyou!
  11. This is my metal Korgug. I painted him up as a Wikkawak which is a white bugbear that lives in the northern snow covered climes of the Pathfinder world. In the picture the shield shading doesn't look deep enough, but I thought it looked good in person. I may have to take snother look and perhaps give it a thin coat of my walnut ink. Also he's on a base similar to the giant I panted rather than a snow base because I intend to use him in Warlord and wanted him to have a base similar to other reven members. edit: I may have to att a little more flocking to areas to cover up where more of where I cut away his broccoli base.

    77314: Golan, Hill Giant

Finished this guy up over the weekend. Fairly happy with him. I really like how his base turned out. *Sigh* After taking the photos though I am displeased with how I can;t keep paint on the fringes of his loincloth. Nothing even touched that spot and still paint has disappeared. At any rate, the base is supposed to look like cracked stone with grass or moss in it.
  13. This is a model I painted for someone as an anonymous gift. It should have gotten to him today, but I'll leave his forum name off just in case. This model was a lot of fun to paint and I only learned later that my model's armor and the painted version on Reaper's website (you know what I mean :)) both have purple armor. This is only the second time I've painted dark elf skin and its quite challenging for me as I often struggle to have good looking smooth skin tones on human models in general. If I hadn't given myself a hardstop time limit, I would have gone back and tried to shade and highlight the yellow on the armor. I don't think its garish, thanks to the blue cloak, but it could look better IMO. I'm extremely pleased with the blending of her ice crystal weapon "blades". I wasn't sure I could pull it off, but I think it turned out really nice, although the eye isn't immediately drawn to it. Please feel free to give any and all feedback, but I'm really keen to hear if folks think I should have gone with a darker yellow or another color entirely. Is there something I could have done better with the basing? The person I painted this for likes an online comic called Drowtales, which I also happen to like, though I'd not read it in at least two years due to losing all my links when my old computer died. But I went through the comic and found some armor and cloaks that I liked and tried to work them into model itself. Here's what the cloak in the comic looks like (sorry, no back picture): And here's the final model (I apologize for the random cat hair): Thank you all in advance for your feedback!
  14. This is another one for Cal's Pathfinder game. I've added in some pieces to make it look like he's really come straight out of the earth. Thanks for looking!

    14504: Saproling Warrior

I painted this up quickly along with the skeletons in between sections of character minis. Nice and easy, drybrushing, ink washing and glazing. There's a noticeable lack of foliage, so I thought he could be a winter saproling (plus I'm going on a bit of a snow kick with basing right now). Totally raided the pantry for this base, some Italian herbs for leaf litter and baking soda to make the snow.
  16. You know how I'm always asking for a deserty barbariany roguey elf wielding a spiked chain? This is what happens when you don't give it to me, sculptors and companies. I ruin your sculpts. In this case, Bobby Jackson's Irith, Deathseeker Hero. ~10 years ago, I created a character concept, a barbarian rogue assassin from a desert moon. Probably not that great an idea; whatever. I loved it. Didn't wind up getting to play him, but the name became my main Internet handle for a long time, and I always kept the concept in mind. This past winter I joined a game, decided he'd be a perfect fit, and made him anew. Bought a mini to mod to represent him at the table! But again didn't get to play him. Alas. But I had a mini for him this time. I'm not in love with the figure, but it seemed like a good one for converting. And it was close as I could get on the look. I guess. I'm pretty happy with how he turned out, honestly. I feel like I could've done a lot worse. I cut off the original's weapons. I used jewelry chain for the chain, a hacked-up jewelry bit bead thingy for the spike, and another jewelry bead thingy for the ball. Drilled out hands, wound up having to cut them, and closed them again over the chain. Pretty simple, pretty ghetto, but here we be. Right eye turned out better than the left, I thought. I had him finished a while ago, but I was waiting on a base. It's a desert base from Micro Arts Studio. Thought it fit the theme pretty well. Thanks for looking!

    Kragmarr Guard (14596)

My obsession with Warlord dwarves continues with Jason Wiebe's Kragmarr Guard. Like this guy a lot, pretty simple and dwarfy. Kept with my usual dwarf-soldier-type blue. Got a little carried away with the shield, heh, but figured I might as well have some fun. Thanks for looking!
  18. Finally getting caught up a little. This fellow's from the last batch I did, but I just finished his piddling base yesterday. Kevin Williams's Lesser Earth Elemental. I loooove this mini. Wish they made a larger version of him. Perhaps in a much-cheaper plaster material of some sort. Perhaps white. Anywho, I decided I didn't want to go gray. My rocks are always gray. Gonna try adding content here for the first time, as Photobucket's hit my last nerve. Thanks for looking!
  19. I received this awesome mini today from KoiPwned. Totally love it and I REALLY appreciate all the work that went into this! Check it out:

    Celt Heroes - Warlord Games

After feeling decidedly "meh" about painting the other day, I managed to snap out of my funk and get a couple of characters done! These Celt heroes will be characters in my Kings of War human army, leading the contingent of barbarian mercenaries. This first one will be the general of the barbarians, so I went for a nice, regal purple cloak for him. Like all the other barbarians, he's a redhead (bit of inspiration from the Hyborian Age Vanir). I used some of the Bryan Sky Steel from ReaperCon on the metal, and practiced some of the principles from Michael Proctor's shaded metallics class. This other bloodthirsty brute will be the unit leader of the army's berserker horde, and you can see he's a bit scarred up from being in the thick of the slaughter. He's also a giant compared to the other Celts! Obviously no red hair, being bald and all. First time making a dribble of blood like that too, using a hair plucked from my own head! C&C absolutely welcome.

    Braug, Ogre 14038

Finished Braug last night. Working on my glazing technique.

    03239: Krug, Hill Giant Chieftan

The boss man. Looking back, I should have done a more "patchwork" job on the fur with different colors. I can always modify it. But its not really priority.

    14532: Aislinn, Shadow Tracker

My ShadowTracker, though I am calling her a SunTracker.
  24. Excited & nervous about my very first post in Show-Off (I hope I'm doing this right!) I bought several nice backdrops from the Hangar 18 vendor booth at ReaperCon and while I'm still working on proper lighting, I'm finally able to take some decent photos of my beloved Reaper minis. May I formally introduce Lord Ironraven-- a nice ol' chap who sat patiently on the "Shelf of Shame" for over two years before I made one of my first official attempts at shaded metallics and silk fabric (after several practice rounds). I attempted to paint some "freehand" jewels on the crosses on his shoulder pauldrons, and this was one of my very first attempts at black hair (now that I've had a bit more practice, I see that the highlights may be too blue). While there's an old work in progress thread (and I mean old ~July 2014) floating on the WIP forums, I'm happy to report that he's finally well-photographed and presentable for the forums. Thanks for checking him out! Lord Ironraven · Sculpted by Werner Klocke · Reaper Miniature #14005

    14093: Finari, Crusaders Hero

Here is another one. I have lots. Just not the best photos. The minis themselves are now where we play and not here at home with me. They have since been based. They are game minis.
