    Reven vs. Tembrithil

Gronkelfibbits rode nervously into position, unsure of these Elves his scouts reported. His guards were quickly formed up into a battle line. Nine orc swordsmen, nine orc spearmen, and two ogres moved into a line to protect their warlord. Ombur and Gonda moved in the back ready to lend their magics to the battle. Greka stayed near them, while the Hill Giant, Knuckles, moved to protect the left flank. The right flank was the speed of Urga, with six beastmen, and Traeg, full of fury and ready to take the fight to the enemy. These Elves approaching seemed different. They had large Owlbears moving against both flanks!! They had Satyr warriors mirroring the Reven Beastmen!! They moved through the forest with ease, and brought archers to bear almost immediately. It all seemed so sudden as the Hunting Cats and Satyrs broke through the woods and were ready to lay waste to the Reven. The Elf archers were sapping the strength of the Orcs, and their Ogre support. The Elf warlord unleashed chains of lightning and it seemed the Reven would not be able to muster a counterattack. Magic was the key. Gronkelfibbits and Mazak, with Reven ferocity, moved into position to cast a lightning bolt into the Elven ranks. Greka cast Iron Skin onto Knuckles, and he swept up against the Satyrs. Urga and his troop axed two Owlbears and some of the hunting cats. Only Traeg survived to continue to harry the enemy but the Beastmen earned respect for their skill and bravery. The attrition was terrible. Ombur, Gonda, Greka, cut down. It was Gronkelfibbits going toe to toe with the Elf warlord, in a climactic battle to the finish. Both thought they had the other beat, but both fought on, until Knuckles finished the battle. Only an Elf sniper lived to skulk off, while the Reven took the field. The losses were replaceable, as the Reven is a horde, and Gronkelfibbits and Mazak left to mend their wounds and continue their campaign for power. Great game, and a rare victory for me. :)
  2. Hello, My friend and I played the Dungeon Crawl game at ReaperCon 2014, and it was great fun (with an amazing dungeon layout!!), and our first exposure to Warlord. I have a few questions, though, and I was hoping to get some insight. - The rules used were just the regular Warlord rules, but in a skirmish format? - Would it be possible to get a copy of the warband sheet? - From where are the monster stats? - Would it be possible to get copies of the random tables used? - Is the playing card initiative a Warlord thing? I really liked that. The two guys running it were very helpful, but it was still extremely chaotic (no fault of theirs). I'd really like to introduce this to my kids and my gaming group, and it is really getting me in the mood to start casting more Hirst Arts blocks. I bought the Warlord book at the con just based off of the game we played, but I'd really like to just duplicate the experience if possible (thus the questions above), and not go overboard or overcomplicate it. Thanks for running the Dungeon Crawl!
  3. Hello all! It's been a while since I'd been working on my Exchange Mini and didn't get to post a WIP. I think I was going into withdrawals but I'm about to rectify that, hopefully not to the point of boring everyone to death. Here's the next WIP! Bow Sister #14321, whom I'm painting up for a very good friend who love to play Munchkin with us. She always gives me grief because I demand to start as an Orc, as I tend to use Varaug all the time. At any rate, this is for her! All washed and mounted in Miniature Holder. I love using these things, if for no other reason than they keep the mini from falling over... EVER! I had fits when just using corks. These prevent needless touch-ups. All primed... Not the most exciting thing, but I love the look of a newly primed figure. NOT shown here are her quiver and her sword & dagger combo. This will be the first time I go for an African skin tone. I'm using the Reaper Dark Skin Triad, so we'll see how it turns out. Luckily, there's not a lot of skin on this one, so I won't necessarily have to pull out all of the stops! Skin tones intimidate me for some reason, but it'll be nice to not have to try to pull off "fair" skin this go-round. Blacklining isn't my specialty. It always comes out looking like a 4yr. old did it. I don't think I tried blacklining last time, but I'm planning on going with a golden-bronzish look with the armor and figured I'd try blacklining again. I'll most likely just go back over this with Intense Brown in preparation for the metallics I'll be using. I actually managed to get these eyes on the first try, which is saying a lot! I think they came out pretty good, so I'm not going to fiddle with them anymore. The right one looks kind of funny in this pic, but it looks good when viewed from a normal level and at normal scale. Of course, I realized after seeing this pic that there's no real outline on the eyes, but I'm curious as to whether I'll need it on such dark skin. Hmmmm.... At any rate, that's all for tonight! I'm sure I'll post more of this Nubian Princess as I work on her. I still haven't really figured out a basing scheme or even the cloth colors... Possibly some red/black/white combos to go with the bronzy-gold armor... We'll have to see! -K P.S.: I've been looking at tutorials on how to string bows. Any suggestions as to how any of you have done them in the past? Sewing thread or wire? Stretched plastic sprue? Feel free to leave comments, questions, explanations! Thanks for viewing! P.P.S.: Just a tip for those of us who are still newer to the hobby... ALWAYS keep a bottle of nail polish remover close at hand. While mounting her pins, I managed to superglue her to my fingers not once, not twice, but THREE times in a row! I'm not sure how it happened as it normally does not, but like jury duty, your number just comes up sometimes. Luckily, I had said bottle of nail polish remover close at hand and was able to spare my poor fingertips!
  4. In a different thread Vince put out a call for terrain assistance the night before ReaperCon. He needed a big hill. (A table was planned that called for a graveyard on a hill.) A link to that thread. I saw the thread and a few PMs and text messages later it was determined that there was a hill hiding in my rather disheveled workshop room that might do. It looked like this: It was an unfinished slab of pink foam (the top had a basecoat on it). This shot was originally sent via phones to [give] Vince an idea of how big it was. That is a Storm Giant from the KS 1 batch along with a paint bottle for scale (I lack a copy of Sir Forscale).

    ReaperCon '14 Warlord tournament

4/13/14 EDIT: A sample of the tournament scenarios is now available. Thank you for bearing with us. 3/31/14 EDIT: Pool play have been given a 5 Turn maximum. Finals games have no Turn maximum. There is also no scenarios and no scoring for the finals games; they are pure kill 'em all, last (wo)man standing. If neither side in a finals game is able to eliminate the other, then the player that has inflicted the most casualties wins and will advance. Terrain for the tables has been finalized, and the scenarios for pool play are about a third finished. A representative sampling of them will be posted soon. In keeping with the last few years, the scenarios have been geared to fit the Western theme of the convention, without completely breaking the fantasy genre of the game. 2/10/14 EDIT: This post will be updated periodically as more information is ready for release regarding the Warlord 2 tournament for ReaperCon 2014. If questions are raised that require clarification for the tournament, those questions (and answers) will be added to this post as well. So, without further ado... Tournament Schedule The ReaperCon 2014 Warlord Tournament is a 1000 point, single list open pool play qualifier, followed by a two (2)-round seeded finals. Each player must play a minimum of three (3) pool play games to qualify for advancement to the finals. These pool play rounds are scheduled as follows: Slot 1: Thursday, 1pm-3pm Slot 2: Thursday, 3pm-5pm Slot 3: Thursday, 7pm-9pm Slot 4: Thursday, 9pm-11pm Slot 5: Friday, 9am-11am Slot 6: Friday, 11am-1pm Slot 7: Friday, 2pm-4pm Slot 8: Friday, 4pm-6pm Slot 9: Friday, 7pm-9pm Slot 10: Friday, 9pm-11pm Slot 11: Saturday, 9am-11am Slot 12: Saturday, 11am-1pm Tickets will be $1.00 for each round you play. There will be a limited number of tables available for the tournament during each slot, so plan to play as early in the convention as you can, or you may miss out. For this reason, please also limit your registration to a maximum of three (3) rounds; if there are additional seats during any of the slots, players are welcome to get in additional games. However, priority will be given to players that have not yet met their three game minimum qualification for the finals. There will be a very limited number of tickets available onsite (much like the classes) if you happen to miss out on getting them during pre-registration. The tournament finals will be held Saturday afternoon, from 2pm-6pm. It will consist of two (2) rounds. All players that are advanced to the finals will play both rounds. The Army List Each player will bring a single 1000 point army list and play that same army list for each round of the tournament (inclusive of the finals). Each player is responsible for bringing a minimum of two hard copiers of their army roster. One of these must be presented to the tournament organizer for verification no later than 30 minutes prior to the start of the player's first game of the tournament. The second hard copy is to be made available to the player's opponent for each game. The hard copy of the list must contain - at a minimum - the actual total point value of the list, troop composition, all equipment (and which models the equipment is assigned to), and the datacards for each model in the army. Printouts from the ReaperGames.com army builder are acceptable, but any equipment should immediate follow the model with which it is associated, as follows: Troop 1 Duke Gerard Holy Weapon Armor of Courage Ian, Mage Apprentice Book of Tactics Templar Knight x 7 Templar Ironspine x 4 Musician In this example, the Holy Weapon and Armor of Courage both immediate follow Duke Gerard, indicating that he has both items. The Book of Tactics belongs to Ian, as it follows his listing. The Musician is assigned to one of the Templar Ironspines (the player is responsible for identifying to their opponent which specific model carries it). Players will be allowed to choose the faction doctrines they wish to use before the start of each game in the tournament, after assignment of scenario and opponent, but prior to deployment or any other game-related actions. Official proxy rules are observed for the tournament. Painted armies are not required, but are encouraged. Tournament Specific Rules 1) All models using the Swift Attack ability must have space to make base to base contact with the enemy model they wish to attack on their action. 2) When using the Summoned (Demon) SA granted by the Gate ability of the Demonic Conclave doctrine for the Darkspawn faction, demons summoned in this manner must be of equal or lesser point value than the summoning model. 3) Sir Broderick, Justicar is allowed to lead Justicar soldiers. 4) The abilities gained by the Howl portion of the Koborlas "Call of the Wild" Doctrine can be used as a free action once per game turn. Tournament Format Each round of the tournament will consist of a "kill 'em all" format game. Players will have 105 minutes (1 hour 45 minutes) of the 2 hour slot to complete the game, 5 Turn maximum. Each game is worth of total of 20 points; 1 point is awarded for each full 100 points of the enemy eliminated (the full 10 points are awarded for defeating the entire force, regardless of the actual list value), and 1 point is awarded for each full 100 points remaining of the player's army. Equipment cost is considered to be part of the model associated with it, with the exception of totems (the points for which may be earned either by defeating the entire army, or by defiling it during the course of the game). If there are any unearned points, these are divided equally between the two sides, with any odd point awarded to the side with the highest points from kills. For each pool play game, players will be paired based on similar average cumulative game score (adjusted to avoid repeated pairings where possible during the first three games). If a player is able to play more than three games, they may drop their one lowest score, averaging all remaining game scores. Thus, a player who plays three games uses all three scores, a player with four games drops the lowest and averages the remaining three, and a player with five games drops the lowest and averages the remaining four. Table priority will always be given to players that have played less than three games vs. those that have played three or more. Space is at a premium this year, and the intent is to accommodate as many players as possible, with as flexible a schedule as possible, while maximizing the use of the tables once qualifiers have been completed for the majority of players. In addition, each game will also consist of a scenario component. These will award Victory Points (VP) based on the specifics of the scenario. VPs are tracked separately from game scores, and are cumulative, regardless of the number of games played. VPs will be used as a tie-breaker, if necessary, for seeding both within pool play and for finals. A limited number of players (based on the final number of players in the tournament overall) will be advanced to the finals bracket on Saturday afternoon. Finals games have no Turn maximum. There is also no scenarios and no scoring for the finals games; they are pure kill 'em all, last (wo)man standing. If neither side in a finals game is able to eliminate the other, then the player that has inflicted the most casualties wins and will advance. Seeding will feature high vs. low in the first round of the bracket, with a final of winners vs. winners and losers vs. losers in the second round. These games will be used to determine final placements in the tournament, and crown the new Warlord for 2014. Need terrain assistance

Due to circumstances beyond our control, some of the terrain for the Warlord tournament appears that it will not be ready in time. I'm working to keep the existing scenarios (as opposed to writing new ones at the last minute), but I have limited space to bring items to the con with me, and even then, I don't have everything I need. So, this is where you can help. If you have access to wargaming terrain, and can get any of this to me by the time the con starts Thursday afternoon, please let me know. The wish list is as follows: Dirt road sections (far less important, but it'd be nice) Large hill sections If you can help, please PM me. ~v
  7. Here is my take on Kashia Ghostmane (Reaper Warlord 14593) , the Lupine tribe shaman. She was fun to paint, I got my fur color inspiration from her name. Linked due to nudity: http://www.coolminiornot.com/352429?browseid=8370375 Edited to add SKU to title

    14383: Mercenary Crossbowman

Ok finally got around to finish basing some of my WIP's. Here is the Warlord Crossbowman I painted up to add to my hodgepodge guardsman group. The black and white were fails in my eyes. But they were a learning experience in blue blacks. Thanks for the look and any C&C you feel the need for.

    Duke Gerard

I've been fascinated with NMM since I first saw it. How does one make regular colors look like metal?! I've delved into NMM every once in awhile, but never with what I consider great NMM. This is no exception for me, but it's getting a wee bit closer. :) Duke Gerard here is from the first Bones KS and my 4-5th try at NMM. C&C not needed (I know what needs work and I'm working on those areas on other models), this is mostly for the new painters and for painters struggling with NMM. Cause even I'm still doing so and I've been painting for over 13 years now. So enjoy and take what you will from this post! :D
  11. I Plan to get Mashaaf but I'd like to get khanjira as well, but the problem is I wouldn't get much use out of either of them in my rpg's The PC's can only really face the Tarasque or beasties similar to it, so many times. I could sub in mashasf for a number of things and the giant spider while not as awesome as the other two is certainly the most practical big guy. This makes justifying Khanjira difficult. However if there were to be some warlord rules for using things like that it would make the justification much easier. I had some ideas on how they could work but I have to go for now. When I return I may mention them.

    Mummy Warriors (77146)

Finally got around to finishing my tomb guardians. Basically got to the point of "good enough, calling them done". I'm considering building up a small Nefsokar army, so I don't want to go into too much detail if I have to paint several more mummies. I do wonder if I should put some more highlights on the faces, though.
  13. I just found out about this game and have been scouring these forums. I've read many a battle report and army list these past few days. I've been playing with the army creator too. I've got a large amount of minis, mostly prepaints from D&D or Mage Knight. I love reaper's scultps, thought I haven't painted any of the bones I got from the first kickstarter. Anyway, i was wondering if there were any Warlord players inteh Portland/Vancouver area? I usually see 40k and Hordes players at my FLGS, Rainy Day Games, but thought I'd throw out a line. I'm going to try to get my friends into Warlord, but sometimes the mini games don't go over very well. Last time we tried Song of Blades and Heroes, and one of our group broke it pretty quickly. Speaking of which, how well do you guys think Warlord takes to players who like to break games? I know you can't create your own units, I think that should help a lot. I'm encouraged by so many of the comments after battle reports being "I can't believe how balanced this game is, and how many armies are viable. You never know what's going to happen until the end of the game!" That's what I've been looking for.
  14. Been thinking about ways to play Warlord, even though there's no one around my area. I was wondering if anyone had considered playign Warlord using a virtual tabletop like Maptools? I have very limited experience with maptools, but it looks like you can program a framework that will make playing a game like Warlord much easier. In case you've never used Maptools or other VTs, they aren't video games. They are computer programs that allow you to play tabletop games by simulating dice, terrain, tokens, and measurements. Code exists in each token and other bit in the game, so the barebones interface can be molded to fit your desired game. In Maptools, you could turn off the grid and go with distance-based movement, then just use the dice and your paper army lists to play. Or you could program it so the interface would show things like character stats, status effects, and stuff like that. The game would not be automated, so you wouldn't be able to play without a rulebook. It would be very similar to the Army Creator's level of detail, where you can see all the stats but without the book you don't know exactly what they do. Still, I'd like to talk to whoever's in charge of Warlord and ask permission before working on a Maptools framework that would allow online Warlord play.

    Struggling Game Shop

There is a game shop in Winfield, KS that is struggling. It brings in just enough profit to pay bills, and keep merchandise of the shelves. The only thing the shop sells right now, besides a few board games and comics, is Magic: The Gathering cards. Technically, they also sell Warhammer goodies. The people who volunteer to run the shop know that I'm Facebook friends with a few people who work at Reaper Miniatures, and asked me to talk to you guys about getting some Reaper merchandise at the store. Specifically, Warlord and CAV stuff. However, I have no idea who I should talk to about that. It's the only game shop in the entire county, and I'd hate to see it go by the wayside. Any help?
  16. This will be another long tale, fraught with peril, passion, and whisky. Let's start with a pic: Here's a Bathalian Centurion for my Darkspawn army, with his hands in the air like he just don't care. I got on a tear of painting with my super Cthulhu-ey force, and fought some great battles with it. Well, forum member wildbill reads my posts, and being a fellow Warlord player and enthusiast, drafts an army list of Dwarves for my friend Dalton to play against my super cool, nearly finished painting, jumping up and down that I finished anything force. So the table is readied: This is some terrain from GF9 Battlefield in a box, Mesa, and Crystals, a trophy crystal I looted from the trash at the office, and to really drive home the Cthulhu, a jellyfish in a crystal in the middle of the table. My first sin, pride. My second sin: So my force is on the table: Dalton's dwarf force, with many proxies and a large, unassembled, unpainted Stone Spirit in the middle deploys his line across the board. Here we are perched at the end of the first turn of movement. The damanable Griffon is into my Fodder, and I'm already sweating bullets. Here is what happened later, with my reporting to follow. I'll give the play by play in a little while, I'm clocking back in to work from lunch, but it will happen.

    Steele Hearts and Steel Blades

I wanted to do a week without any Mechs, but I just couldn't. This beautiful Berserker repose that Mr Balk did for me was calling my name. I decided to do this piece in the colors of a merc unit from an early campaign in my BT days, the Steele Hearts. Also this week, my Nefsokar army gains a few new members, and my Pathfinder group finally gets their characters. As always, thoughts, opinions, and thrown pottery welcome. Ludo's Workbench

Colonel Kane requested that I put up my CAV stuff up ASAP so it's going first. (From left to right:) Dictator-B, Vanquisher, Tiamat, Weasel, and Ronin Attempting to do some rusting on the Ronin. Need to do the detail and touch up the rest. Weasel next to some Infinity terrain I'm painting for The Covenant FLGS. Yes I realize I inadvertently made Iron Man with my paint scheme. Vaquisher hunting prey. I normally won't play with partially painted figs (encourages me to not stall) but I had some itch left from ReaperCon. Wyvern down! Linkinatutu made the mistake of running his wyvern ahead of support fire and it got wreaked by missile salvos. We house ruled that since the model could fit on the catwalk it was legal terrain but it was rough due to the extra effort to keep it from toppling off.

    Warlord 1st to 2nd

So while perusing my FLGS on my extended lunch break today, I came across a discounted copy of the Warlord Starter Box (1st edition, [2nd printing, I think] w/ a copy of the 2005 CW! Side note, I love the rough feel of the paper in this CW, as opposed to the glossy pages in the newer ones). So, I picked it up (it didn't indicate it was 1st edition when I bought it, though I had an inkling it was old...), and am wondering how significant the differences are in the rules between 1st and 2nd; and also if there is an errata sheet or update PDF somewhere. SO, yeah! Now I have a Warlord rulebook, even if it is out of date. I can't wait to play! (OCD insists I paint all figs before fielding them. And paint them well...) -Dave

    Acacia, Ivy Crown Sergeant (14545)

Finished up Acacia today, hoping to get some more Warlord stuff painted up soon to entice friends into playing. Just a tabletop job for the most part, nothing fancy. I did use some Italian herbs as leaf litter on her base though, and now she kind of smells like pizza. C&C welcome!
  23. Sentinel and I played a game or Warlord on his recent trip to our town. I led off with my contingent of Battle Nuns and Hospitalers. Sentinel fired off his ranged weapons. The hurting begins! Hiding behind the terrain! Battle is joined: My spell caster summoned my guardian beast and wiped out some of his heavies: Captain America should be ashamed of himself! Beating up on a nun? You can see how my luck was running! My powers included the ability to summon a spirit warrior when a non soldier model in the enemy army dies. I put out an unpainted fig to help keep the "spirit" of the thing ;) I got a second spirit during the midgame: I didn't manage to kill off enough of his army and they ganged up on my last remaining piece. My guardian beast: I didn't get to use my healing magic except once during the game. So much damage was done the figures died before I got a chance to heal them. Sentinel won his second game that evening. Pretty good for a first time player!

    Arthrand Nightblade 14553

My latest foray into building a tabletop army worthy of Lothlorien (yes, I Have a slight thing for Tolkien elves, and elves in general) I went with a fairly basic look for this guy. grey cloak to blend in, blue tabard to show a bit of elven 'class' and a very simple base As always, please comment and critique. Especially if you see something you feel I should work on for the next mini.
  25. Because of the convergence of fields I wasn't sure where I'd get the best response. I chose CP&T as the most relevant... As a Bones supporter I'm getting http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/almaran/sku-down/03292 which is an almost perfect match for my character. Except it's human... and wingless. My paladin is a Scion of Arkhosia so I need wings and a head swap. I don't want to go crazy and get the Dragonman Conversion Kit just for 2 pieces... I can use the head from the Dragonman Warrior I'm already getting then buy a pair of wings. So this is where I ask for your help. Will metal wings unbalance the Bonesium mini ? Suggestions to prevent/counter-act if they will ? Any Reptus Warlord players with info on the stability of the winged models ? Any recommendations of which wings would be the best fit ? The pictures in the gallery while accurate, aren't the most helpful for me.
