  1. I finished one of my favorite figures from the original Bones Kickstarter: Trista, the White Wolf. Patrick Keith is one of my favorite sculptors and he did a great job with her - especially with her realistic proportions and armor. I wasn't digging the original sword, so I swapped it out using the weapon sprue from Bones 3. I bunch of thanks to all of the forum members who gave great encouragement and suggestions in my WIP thread.
  2. Greetings, We don't normally post on this forum (too intimidated), but Niall did a weapon swap on this one using a staff from the Bones Armoury of Virtue set. Any feedback would be gratefully received! Stephaniall
  3. As I'm actually getting to play 5e, and it looks like I'll get to keep playing for a while, I figured I should go ahead and pick a mini to represent my dwarven wizard. Now, he isn't your typical wizard, even for a dwarf, as he goes around in a chain shirt and swings his warhammer. So the Dwarf Wizard minis, as fun as they are, are out. Going through my Bones collection, I came across this guy: Ivar, Dwarf ClericNot a perfect fit, especially the backpack, but not bad. Also going against him was the fact that his hammer was miscast on my copy.So... to work!I started by removing the backpack, and giving him a good scrub to make sure any mold remover was washed off. Then I had to find a new hammer. The Bones Weapon Sprues had one that worked. Just about the right size...Clipped off the old hammer, drilled out the hand...And while I was at it, I cut off all the decorative stuff off the backpack, and trimmed the base. Then using my Happy Seppuku courtyard stamp, I gave him a fancier base to stand on. It's hard to see, but the pin is already in his hand, and you can sort of see the hole drilled in the shaft of the hammer. And here it is all glued together!Hmm... the anvil in the middle of the backpack... just doesn't do it for me. So I ripped the backpack off, and went back to my bits box.In the end I cut the bedroll and lower bag completely away, and used some greenstuff and superglue to put it all back. The barrel is from one of the Games Workshop Brettonian Infantry kits... I think the bottle might be as well, but I'm not 100% on that. I'm still debating adding a length of rope to the backpack... but otherwise, the modding is done, and it's time to get painting!
  4. This is a really brilliant sculpt, and he made the transition to Bones fairly well with the exception of his weapon. I cut off the tetsubo and gave him an iron bound cudgel in its place. I also used the scalpel to clean up the keg on his back a bit.
  5. This past week I painted Jurden, Half-Orc Paladin, from the Bones 3 Heroes I Set. I did a weapon swap on him with the new Bones 3 clear weapons, just to experiment. He looked like the kind of senior-ranked, wealthy, individual who could be wielding a magic crystal sword. In looking at this figure, there wasn't anything particularly orc-ish about it, so I decided to just paint it as a regular human. Full painting article on my blog: Jurden
  6. So here are my hobgoblins. Complete with weapon swaps from the basic weapon set for the commander and from armory of death and vice for the berserker. Detail on the commander's face was a little shallow but I made do.
  7. So here is my take on Kanaag, Half Orc Ranger, by Gene Van Horne. I was lucky enough to find the Artist's original Artwork (Travis Salonks) for this figure, from a 10 year old post! WiP Here... I did not like his weapons, so the item in his left hand was removed, and the blade of the right hand weapon was ground down with my Dremel Tool. The Falcon idea came when I could not think of something to add to his left hand... Lots of items I had no clue as to what they were, but the concept art explained them. Overall, a fun mini to paint. Pics: Close ups: Thanks for looking, and all of the suggestions folks made during the Wip! George
  8. Hey all! Need some opinions from you all on this guy: I like the figure, HATE the weapons! Not sure what this fascination with jagged edged blades, but I plan on swapping them out. The question is for what? Now the haft of the weapon in the figure's right hand (Whatever it is...) extends past his elbow to half way up his upper arm. So this leads me to think of it as more of a pole arm than a sword. Maybe not as the haft is 3/4 the length of the blade. Obviously a hand-and-a-half sword if not a 2 hander. The downward slope of his arm, and the way his thumb rests on top of the haft kind of rules out a sword for me anyway, as a sword of the right length would extend below the base, and his thumb is where the hilts would be. Digging through my weapons packs leads me to think that an axe is going to be my best bet, as an axe can be one or two handed, and the wrappings of the haft against his arm would work well on an axe haft. I suppose a mace or hammer could work as well.... I have the axe on the the right hand sprue, the one on the left hand sprue just doesn't seem big enough... And I have the two two-handed axes from the bottom middle sprue I suppose I could use the sword on the right hand sprue, the one next to the quiver, not the odd one... But the length takes it to the middle of the base's height, if not below... And he has no scabbard. So if you had this figure with the sword blade missing, which would you use? What would you do? He also has something in his left hand that looks like he is grabbing a bat and the out stretched wings are blades... What do I put there? As can be seen on the mini, he has daggers in different places, plus a bow and quiver. Do I just make it look like he is holding out a clenched fist??? There is some bit of a handle in his hand... So Ideas, thoughts opinions? I am beginning to sculpt a little bit with green stuff, but a whole weapon is not something to be done with GS from what I have read... But maybe a hammer or mace head? Thanks for looking and thinking! 8) George
  9. I fished this lady out of the melt bin at ReaperCon, missing her chain whip which I replaced with a dagger. I don't play Cryx (and she's part of a 10-man squad anyway), so she gets painted up as a generic PFRPG NPC. I decided this would be a low-stress model: having fun takes priority over looking good. I put as much time as I wanted into any given section then moved on. She may have a chance to star in the next session of my RotRL game. The base I got from Secret Weapon’s Bag of Crap. I’m not a big fan of their gross alien bases, so it got paired with this low-stress model.
  10. I've got some scenic bases in the mail so I wanted to experiment with them before I use them on my winter exchange. I chopped off Michelle's broccoli base with a hobby knife then decided to replace her wobbly weapons with metal ones. I didn't have two matching swords so she gets sword and dagger instead. The sword was SOOO easy to mod. I just chopped off the old one, drilled straight through her hand with a drillbit about 1 size too small. I then used the bendy nature of Bones to my benefit and just wiggled it in there and through. The sword is held entirely by her rubber-band hands - there's not a drop of glue. The dagger was slightly more problematic because it had a pommel that was quite a bit bigger than the grip. I had to cut off the pommel (and promptly lost it), so I glued the original pommel back on. The dagger is secure as well - it might have a little bit of glue, but it's mostly friction as well. There's something weird/wrong with her right eye. Anyone else have this problem? There's zero chance I can fix the sculpt without ruining it, and I probably can't do good enough paint plastic surgery, so she might get an eye patch, or magical jewel-eye or something.
