  1. Let's see if I can finish one of these for a change... Of course I neglected to take good pictures of the early steps... Mossbeard assembled, "primed" with Sepia Liner, which after a year was kinda gloopy... Thinned with a little airbrush thinner, it went on fine though and gave really good coverage and gave the figure a nice brown on top of the grey bones. The green then got an overbrush with Jungle Mist and then a wash of Vallejo green wash. The brown got a wash of Vallejo dark Grey Wash and some spots with Vallejo Rush Wash. I've since started with a over/dry-brush of Wolf
  2. Good day, i have been painting for a little while, but recently i have tried to push myself further... this is my second mini to do for LGS painting contest (i won the first one they did) .... have about a week left to finish him. so i am planning a little more highlights and more work on the weapons.... if it wasn't for a local friend i would still be painting in blocked colors and calling it done, but he keeps pushing me to try more hah! i am open for input and criticism on him... :)
  3. Hi all, Crazy idea that has been floating around my noggin for months now is finally starting to come together. Never done anything like this before so we'll see where this leads. Cinder, with gaps filled with green stuff. Her legs are a little bent so I can't quite attach her to her base so I'll use the terrain and pin her where she needs to be. Cinder, 2 hatchlings, some quail eggs and tree bark (rocks) for some of the landscaping. Plan is to have to eggs sitting on a pile of treasure. Going to hit Michael's to see if I can find a suitable base for it otherwise I
  4. Hi, ok so it seem having a long "put everything here" thread is not easy for moderator, I am opening a dedicated one for those WH40K orcs :) I am done with the skin pass, obviously more details to go in with brush. going next to get the other parts base coated I think , so I can get an overview of the overall look and color for those guys ( for now it look very green xD )
  5. Here’s my next big project, a 1984 Ral Partha dragon. This old fellow was in pieces when I received him, and painted. I’ve cleaned him up, removed the old epoxy glue, pinned him back together, and tonight realized it looks like he’s rising out of the water. He needs a bigger base, which I have (75x46mm oval). But I have never done any basing, and I’d like to create a base that extends the appearance of water. I have no idea how to do that, so any and all suggestions and illustrations are welcome!
  6. Sorry for being away from the Forum for so long. So ... how does one pronounce "peryton"? I've usually said it like "keratin" (stress on the first syllable), but I suppose it could rhyme with "enlighten" (stress on the second syllable) instead. I realized only weeks ago that I had been mispronouncing "wyvern" all my life, and the first syllable is long like "five", not short like "shiv". Anyway... I taught a class called "Fur, Feathers, and Scales" class at ReaperCon 2018. I used the Bones peryton as a demonstration, because of the big feathered wings.
  7. So my girl ( @Zanderina) and I got into this wonderful hobby together, and we've developed a few tricks and styles our own. Well yesterday I was told my style is very dark and 'Earthy'. No offense taken, but it hit me I do need to extend my color pallet choices. This lead to a small challenge between us, as we're apparently very competitive with each other. We'd pick out our model to be done next, and the other person would pick the paints to use. My model choice was Hosilla (#60172), and received the following Reaper paints to use: Dragon Red (9401), Cats Eye Green (9414)
  8. Been working pretty steadly though bad about keeping up pics! Did these guys (mostly done) in January. They are GW minis from the Battle at Pelennor Fields Lords of the Ring starter set. I started on these guys closer to end of the month, as well: They're for my Luna Wolves, first guy is the Terminator sarge (which I'm painting along with some other terminators from the Burning of Prospero box set) This guy is a resin cast Apothecary from FW I bought off ebay - he's got a pretty bad mold slip along one leg, b
  9. Originally, there wasn't going to be a WIP thread for this since I expected to finish in a single evening. That didn't happen. And I've been sick this week. With "20" miniatures waiting to be painted (not to include Bones 4 coming next month), I need to decrease the amount of time it takes to paint a miniature, defined as going from "primered" to "ready to be sealed". For this and the next few time trials, I will be focusing on basecoat/wash/drybrush and then neatening up as required, aiming for tabletop quality. After about three and a half hours, Garrick has been b
  10. More folklore minis 11 A bunch of loose reaper and zombibicde black plague minis 26 Shelf of shame Mr bones from bones 2? Total 38... uh sure Possibly the new terraincrate town square This thread will house reaper and zombicide minis. Others will be in already established threads.
  11. Welcome to my first ever WIP thread! Where I try and paint half as good as the rest of you! I love the mousling line Reaper does and the space mouslings were too cute to resist. I picked up the collector's set on a mystery site too. If I like this I might use it at Reapercon. Some assembly is required... so stay tuned.
  12. So I received my Harwood Hobbies cultists miniatures. I decided to try and make a warband out of them:[spoiler photo to come] Mr Karswell: Sigilist Ritual Leader: Apprentice 3 axe cultists+ executioner=melee/thugs the enforcer (w/ machinegun)= ranged I have a few more slots, so I'll need to see what other cultist minis I have, and whether they fit. Maybe I'll add Bones 3 cultists, or my Crooked Dice cultists I suppose I may choose some other school than sigilist, it's just that with the spellbooks, they LOOK like sigilists. I wish summoning weren't an opposed school, however. A
  13. The Mexican holiday Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos) is coming up on November 2. These are two figures that I sculpted for Reaper, albeit very slowly -- starting in November 2014 and ending in October 2016 (with long periods of inactivity, and other sculpting and painting projects along the way). Izzy "Talin" Collier drew the character designs: Reaper sells them as "Day of the Dead Cavalier" and "Day of the Dead Duchess", DHL 03822 and 03823. If you search for them in Reaper's online store, don't use the words "of" or "the" because those words will blank
  14. So I figured I'd just start a WIP thread, rather than clutter up the forum with unnecessary extras. I hate disorder (although you wouldn't be able to tell that from looking at my workspace! LOL) This week's been mostly working on Gremlins from Malifaux, I have Somer, Slophaulers and Skeeters almost done. Still waiting on flying stand order to come in for Skeeters. Somer's the Bayou Boss, and I have other Bayou Gremlins in my pile of to-be-done but we'll see how long it takes me to get to them. Betrayal at Calth (BAC) is a GW box set of Space Marines that's both a board
  15. So one of my players bought a hero forge 3d model and then printed it. I've based it, primed it and now I'm painting it in the color combination he requested. I have just finished the base layer (the goggles will be gold with green glass) Hope he's happy when it's finished :D
  16. Well, I decided to start another WIP. This one a sort of Halloween theme. The Vampress Siobhana, Vampiress by reaper. Got some work done on her awhile ago and decided in the spirit of the season to try and finish her up. Unfortunately I couldn't remember exactly the method I painted up the face, so I got as close as I could on the legs and hands. Here's where she is at the moment. As always, any C&C is always welcome.
  17. Hello everyone, I plan on crafting some blights out of polymer clay. Today I made the armatures out of copper wire and glue and pined them to some old 20mm bases. I plan on using fimo air polymer clay, decorative sand (maybe some rocks too), and a variety of dried tea leaves and spices. Then I will prime them using cheap spray paint and paint them using cheap acrylic paint. I hope they turn out nice. All kinds of tips, suggestion or criticism are welcome :D
  18. So I am reopening what will be a long and fun wip stuff :D hopefully ! For a start ( and to cut from my massive darkness dwarfs..actually still 3 to finish the serie I've got ), I have this nice Runewars Wraiths in my figures stock and that will be great opportunity to airbrush a bit ! And I just got them primed for now , using Vallejo grey primer..since they do have pretty light color regarding the box I did not want use any black for that part.
  19. I've been wanting to paint a bust since I got back from ReaperCon. I missed my chance to pick up Julie Guthrie's beautiful sculpt from the convention, so I did a bit of research. I had already picked up a larger scale mini from FeR Miniatures at Scale 75's table this year, so I started there. In addition to some more intricately detailed stuff, FeR also had a few busts that seemed a bit more on the simple side, so I grabbed them. They're both in the "Portraits From the Middle Ages" line. I started with this one, the Saxon Huscarl, Hastings, 1066. I started off by doing the face, us
  20. Playing with Secret Weapon Miniatures weathering pigments (finally...) Making a rusty wrought iron fence is really fun! I think I need to add a few more shadows to make the bits pop. I'm pretty happy with this, but C&C welcome and appreciated!
  21. Back from Reapercon and working on the little's PC for our inconsistent dnd game. She's super tiny but I really like the sculpt. Gripes about plastic, and the mould quality though. It's a wizkids preprimed number. I wish they did these in metal. She's coming along nicely. Her skins are the rosy skin triad with some of the fair skins mixed in. Hair is intense brown, vmc orange brown pumpkin orange and then pumpkin orange and rosy highlight, then tiny bits of rosy highlight. Her eyes are I think leaf green, and tiny. Kiddo is requesting some purple socks with stripes so that is the next
  22. Hey there! This is my first post-ReaperCon mini, and I'm using her to practice the various techniques that I learned in various classes. I'll be posting stages along the way, and feedback is very much appreciated! For starters, I've gotten most of the base coats down, and the first thing I practiced was two brush blending on her orange cloak. My plan is to do a bit of freehand along the trim in the light orange of the front skirt, and then use the same trim along the skirt in the dark orange of the cloak. It makes sense in my head, anyway! The ch
  23. So I posted these sketches for new sculpt ideas to my social medias and got some good feedback. Everyone seemed to be a big fan of the Raccoon and since he was one of my favorites from the pack also, I decided to sculpt him! I didn't have my phone with me to get pics of the initial wire frame and GS layer but I went over that with some Fimo clay and baked an underlying structure now and I'll start layering my Primo on top of that.
  24. So, after indulging in the metal trade at Reapercon this year I found myself going through my stores of salvaged miniatures and putting together various bits and pieces. I tend to save a lot of scraps and fragments of figures in my spare parts bin (or drawer, rather) which I think may be useful for something someday or other, and after pouring the lot of it out and sifting through it I realized that I have accumulated an awful lot of this sort of thing, and it was high time I did something with it. After messing around and experimenting for a couple of hours I came away with a pro
  25. As part of my tour through the Reaper MSP skin triads (and eventually the HD and Bones skin paints), I decided to tackle the Fair Skin triad next. This might have been a bad idea. Oh well, nothing ventured... Thus far, I have painted her skin and done the base coat for her hair. This time out, I'm trying to paint one section at a time, so everything else has only seen a Brown Liner wash. (This will hopefully help me keep track of what I've painted.) Her skin has been done using the Fair Skin triad. I tried using 09069 Rosy Highlight to put some red on
