  1. New dude posting! Here's what I'm currently working on, in spare time as I find it. Had some snow days from classes, so I knocked out a few minis. This one isn't quite done yet. Neither are the others, really.
  2. I wasn't great about taking a bunch of pics along the way so far, but here are what I have: Both minis got a soap bath with warm water, Dawn dish soap, and a good scrub with a toothbrush. Once dry, I primed the pony with Reaper's Brush on Primer - which I had to scrub off with soap and reprime three or four times before it would not bead up. Then they both got a coat of Brown Liner: As you can see, I picked out a 30mm base for the pony. I haven't dug through my bases yet for the bull. I then hit them with a blotchy coat of Ancient Bronze, then Lava Orange, and then Bloodstain Red
  3. Over halfway through the month and I decided I needed to start my next reaper Halloween chibi. So random draw at the start of the month was Gus. I had him all prepped up over the month. So I started him up today. Base coat of RMS Ghost White. Not original I know, but I wanted to go blue. So I shaded down with 3 layer of a mix of ghost white and sapphire blue. After that I blended back in some ghost white. Then I highlighted up with Pure White. I then base coated the chains with a mix of cloudy grey and sapphire blue. Here is what I wound up with after all that.

  5. Received my Bones 2 shipment last week and updated my old WIP thread only to find out the rules have changed. So, here's my first Bones 2 painted character. No idea what I'll use him for, and I know the colors are not quite... Dwarvin. I've pretty much finished painting him, though I'm sure if I wanted to I could touch up quite a few things. Let's start with Grey Primer and a Solid Blue Base for the cloth items... on a very clean napkin.
  6. Ok, this is the 3rd stage of the ranger from Partha 3-stage that I'm painting up to be my captain of the guard. I have the other 2 painted and plan to post all three when this is done as a kinda 3-stage progress meter. I decided to start him as well as I had extra skintone left over from fixing Tyden and the Bones wench. This is a 25mm figure and a Tom Meier sculpt (Yea Lost Mini Wiki). I'm not sure if I can get the eyes any better. Have 3 projects going. This will be my resevre projects while I try to finish up the other 2.
  7. I started a thread yesterday in the advice forum and one of the members suggested I start a WIP thread. So here it is. CC welcome, I'm looking to get better. I'm going to start with most of my current collection. Many of these guys have been played in games and stored in a box together, so some paint might be wearing off (see wraith). I'm not sure if this is how pictures are suggested to be uploaded, so this first post is extremely pic heavy. My apologies. The Red/ Blue girls are my main (she has multiple personality disorder...)
  8. dedicating this section to my OLD Wip's and stuff just so I can find them without having search for half an hour through 70 pages of forums carrion-crown-pcs frp wip bathalian Kain from final fantasy pirate ships aka I have a habit of leaving stuff half way finished for a year. allosaurus raptor lox jarg gnoll pathfinder big #[email protected]%@#$ map bending your bones video well that's most of them. --------------------------------------- so as busy as the forums are getting I decided to locate all my wips to here. starting off are going to be 4 minis for my gf
  9. With all this talk in the Painting Tips & Advice Thread of NMM vs TMM I decided to throw my caution to the wind and give my Learn to Paint Kit #5: NMM a go. While I finish the final touches on my bones barkeep and finish painting my bones blacksmith I'm going to start my prep work on my LTPK figures. They need to be cleaned up and primed. I need to read over the instructions a few times as well. So here is a shot of the figures. I'm going to be painting. Should be a challenge I hope to be up for. Edit: for title correction
  10. 02785: Sabertooth Tiger Man Brothers Of Tooth And Claw ___________________________________________________________________________________ Here is the conversion of the Sabertooh Tiger man's base and Buckler. *First picture was white balanced and is WAY brighter than what it actually is. the other 2 pictures are not balanced and are closer to what it looks like* A lot of Wet blending (my first attempt - it turned out well). BACK: Highlight Orange mixed with a little GW: Vomit Brown (3:1) Transition:: GW: Vomit Brown CHEST: Pure white mixed with GW: Vomit Brown - just a touc
  11. While fixing up Tyden's Scrapped knee I had extra paint so I decided to get started on finishing up the Wench. As an experiment I plan to only use the color's from LTPK3. Her dress is Ashen Blue shadowed with a mix of ashen blue and mahogany brown. I'm think the whole thing needs some further blending. But the color's are blocked in. Oh, and to further my NMM practice, I intend to paint the mugs metal NMM. Gold was a thought, but I feel I want to practice metal more.
  12. I have been working on a project in blender, and could use some criticism. Unfortunately, I haven't converted this to a JPEG, but I will change it out as soon as it is possible. One of the things that is horrible with sculpting in 3d is that the details can become faded or nonexistent when the print is made, but with a 16 micron resolution almost all of the details you see should make it. The head is missing right now, and the arms and hands are just being set up for general shape before I can get into detail work. Some armor doesn't have support behind it if you look closely. I am sorry
  13. Well I have 12 Reaper Chibi so I decided that I will attempt to paint 1 a month this year. My random draw for january, Jack Pumpkinhead, He is primed and his head base coated photo'd with my cellphone.
  14. Okay, new project! Last weekend, I based C'thulhu with FolkArt Multi-Surface Paint (thinned with water and airbrushed), which I've found really sticks well to Bones and MSP sticks to it. I chose Thicket Green for the body and Bark Brown for the base. I chose to use the Moss Colors Triad as the main colors for the body. I sprayed Jungle Moss for the undercoat, with Highlands Moss sprayed as zenithal highlighting. I then drybrushed the shadows with Highlands Moss, and the highlights with Pale Lichen. Nice... I haven't really decided what to do with the base yet, but I l
  15. 02753: Werebear Brotherhood Of Tooth And Claw ______________________________________________________________________________________ I filed down his neck a bit to put his head at a tilt. Then Green Stuffed and blended it with the pattern of the fur. Washed in Reaper Brown Wash. Finished the eyes and working on the mouth. C&C Welcome!
  16. So with Willen on his way to Vegas right now as I write this to vacation, we talked about a painted figure exchange. For his, he wanted something to represent his old TTRPG/D&D type character "Willen" and told me the story of how he was from Rivendell, an outcast who was good with the sword and with magic (both lightning and ice being his preferences). I found Dayln Talas, Elven Sword Mage on the Reaper Site, which we both thought was perfect. I did an alteration to the sword since the PC had a longsword instead of a curved blade, used some files and got it straightened out. Starti
  17. Started work on this Uskuluz Greyhide about 85% of the way through Anval Thricedamned. I think you all will like this progression everyone. Please let me know of some color choice you might think for the bits and bobs hanging off of him. ___________________________________________ The base is done with spackle, sand and some old pieces from a Reaper figure WAY back in the day. 10points if you can figure it out! C&C Welome!
  18. This is continued WIP that used to be part of my gigantic continued WIP. It will essentially be for the basing of the 77045-Orc Hunter (Spear), and 77051-Orc Stalker. Both by Tre Manor. I'm mostly done the basing, but I thought I'd create a new thread for that before I post in show-off (hopefully on the weekend). I just need to get dinner started and convert pics, so stay tuned for posts showing basing progress. I will be using a similar basing technique with my other orc berserker.
  19. I'm starting this thread for all of those who attended this year's Reaper Artist Conference so that you can post pictures of the work you did in the hands-on classes. We're all curious to see what everyone else was able to make, and what can be done to improve/complete our own creations. Post it here for fun and feedback!
  20. Next Project in my bones journey is the blacksmith. Painted up the eyes. Decided to try for a brown eye color with RMS intense brown. And for those who might be curious I used a Raphael #1 to paint the eyes, except for the white dot. Then I put down a base coat of tanned flesh. Thanks for any advice or comments in advance.
  21. So I'm going to try to enter this contest. I want to use BONES 77143: Townsfolk: Undertaker I plan on sacrificing a zombie arm as well Basically, I want the undertaker to have just finished burying a man recently hanged. There will be a hanging tree. I want to try making this with twisted wire, masking tape, 5 minute epoxy and milliput. A hangman's noose will be draped over a big branch. The undertaker will be shining his light at the fresh grave after he hears a noise, and sees the recently deceased sticking his hand out of the loose earth. The lantern he uses is weird, so I'm not
  22. Hopefully one part of a small diorama for the Halloween contest, here's a WIP for the Undertaker. Thus far, he's painted as if lit by moonlight; a much stronger OSL will come from the lantern in a bit. So the back and face are pretty much done, but the front needs much more work.
  23. Here are shots of the sandworm project seen finished here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/57999-worm-sign/?p=1001382 It was a lot of fun, and I am very happy with the result. It was hard not to start a second one, but I am not sure where I would keep them if they started to multiply.
  24. Hey all, Now that I've got my Kickstarter Bones, I decided to start a separate WIP thread to help motivate and inspire me, as well as share my discovery process, flubs, thoughts, mistakes, and accidental successes with everyone. I'm brand new to this whole painting miniatures business, so any and all comments and advice are most welcome! I'll try to be as detailed as I was with my first (and so far, only) mini WIP, since a lot of people seemed to appreciate that; however, with roughly 250 minis to paint, I may not have the time to be as thorough. Unless noted otherwise, all paints used
  25. For Christmas last year, my Mom hired the very talented Andy Pieper (a good friend of mine) to sculpt me a set of miniatures for a Visitation Scene from Luke, Chapter 1 of the Bible. Andy's Sculpting WIP thread is here. In this scene, Mary, just having conceived Jesus by the Holy Spirit, visits her cousin Elizabeth, who is pregnant in her old age. When Mary arrives, Elizabeth says, "“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears
