  1. I skipped a few steps, but I actually remembered to take a WiP shot of my set from the "Song of Blades and Heroes: Axe and Brimstone" Kickstarter. There's also a few Hobgoblins who I started in hopes it would motivate the delayed KS package to arrive quicker (it worked!)
  2. In between base coats of glow in the dark medium for specter #2 I decided to unwrap and quick paint the slimes with ink. What follows is, to my belief, THE green slime recipe.
  3. Right. This project has been ticking in the back of my mind for awhile. The story starts about 20 years ago, when I painted my very first miniature for our D&D game, our NPC cleric from the Temple of Elemental Evil module. I love that module, and I loved our cleric more, since he managed to save/raise our butts more times than I can count. Jannus came from farmer stock, and took a tough love approach to healing, all stemming back to the dreaded 1 rolled on a healing check, subsequently involving salt in a wound. Good times. It became a standing joke for years to come. I love the
  4. The intent of this thread is to work through painting the Myth minis at a tabletop level in order to make the game experience even better. I chose to start with the crawlers since the melee and ranged are hard to tell apart. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Gif here ---> http://imgur.com/gallery/nf1aLJB Lazy so I'll copy pasta what I wrote on Imgur. "Made a base for an upcoming project. Its a simple LED and battery and a LOT of hot glue. I got a flickering candle from the dollar store and ripped it apart for the pieces. Then I made an aluminum foil cast and filled it with hot glue. (Foil doesn't stick to it so when it cooled it came right off) It was a lot of trial and error, but I am happy with it. Its intended to look like a volcano with lava dripping down from the mini, hopefully it looks better when its painted!" Anyway I am very
  6. So, since I was procrastinating on making my base for Rasia I decided to start prepping some more figures to paint. After see 72Moonglum paint up some old partha's I decided to work on another of mine. Here is stage one of my 3 stage elf collection: I then decided why not finaly paint up one of my Chainmail Elves. Also why not add a newer one to round out the generations, Reaper's Amiryth Elmlighter.
  7. Gadzooks!!!! I'm actually painting something again. Here's the bad boy I've chosen this time around: I actually have a colour scheme in mind after researching other people's work on this one, and have adjusted it according to my own whims. A quick slather of Reaper Brown Liner as a primer. And here we have a couple of layers of P3 Sanguine Highlight to bring some proper base colour, might put have to touch up a couple spots. After this: drybrushing!
  8. So since I was kidding Ub3r earlier, I feel its only fair that I post my own WIP (which will likely be slow progress). This is High Exemplar Kreoss, a.k.a. Kreoss 1, a.k.a. pKreoss. A Warcaster for the Protectorate of Menoth in Warmachine by PP. This is just a quick shot of him primed (along with my lovely thumb as I had to hold it close to the light in order to get any of the details to stick out). I should have an update tomorrow with some early base coating!
  9. So, I've dug out a mini to paint up for the same Hobby Hangout contest that Ub3r is entering. Flying Frog Games' Shadows of Brimstone: Guardian of Targa. We all know how bad I suck at keeping up WIPs, but I'll try to post as I go. This is what it looks like: I'm kidding. It's the guy on the left, here: I've just finished cleaning and assembling mine, and as you can see, I had to do some filling on the base...which I tried to cover up with some bits, since I can't sculpt. It's on a Secret Weapon Trash base, 60mm, beveled. (Bleh for beveled edge
  10. My in-laws have a tradition of passing off a joke gift to all the male adults. Someone (it's forgotten who originally was gifted with the slippers) got a pair of knitted size 14 (my in-laws are all over 6'5, I'm the short one at 6'2) slippers in white, orange and green wool. They are ugly. This person then added a small change, like a patch, to each slipper and re-gifted it. The tradition continues. There's one more person I can give these to before it becomes a random (or someone else marries into the family). I'm adding a few quickly painted bones orcs. I would do different ones (because I
  11. Hey all, Wanted to take a break from painting big stompy robots (CAVs) and get back into something with curves. Someone in my pathfinder group just made a new character, a female slayer... So I used that as motivation to paint up this awesome sculpt. I looked around and got heavy inspiration from these two posts by Pingo and Evilcoatrack: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/61985-scáthach-scotswoman-warrior-77389-highland-heroine/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69147-77389-highland-heroine-wip/ I decided to try a few new things with this mini, including
  12. Painting up Una the Falconer for my Patrons. They chose the model for me, and I paint it. Then I raffle it off. She has just a ludicrous amount of detail on the front. So much that I often have no idea what I'm painting until everything around it is complete. Then it's one of those 'Aha!' moments that requires me to repaint. I'm complaining too much though. She's not that bad. But, in some cases I'd say dialing the detail back a bit helps create some better visual clarity. And that, really, has been the most difficult part - having enough contrast and separation between all those stitch
  13. After my exchange mini I wanted to touch work on something less taxing. So I decided to work on a few more Walkers. Also I decided to test out the camera on my new tablet. Not a whole lot of editing options, but I could crop the photos, and I think I got the white balance OK. Here is the group shot: While I finished the highlights on the skin of all 4, I only managed to get this guy's highlights finished. I still plan on putting down some washes to make the shadows darker, and bloody him up. But this is the 1st step in my Zombicide process. I'll see how it looks on my computer in a bit.
  14. I'm playing Hoard of the Dragon Queen, and apparently we need a dragon. So I'm painting the Shadow Dragon that's been in my "Box of 20" unpainted minis as a blue dragon. Last night I boiled, cleaned and glued the wings (because why not? Oh, ok... THAT's why not) and slopped on blue liner/medium. I will probably slop on some more liner to actually line. Colors I'm planning on using. -Interference Blue (Yes, this dragon has been Pingo'd). Skin:Dragon Blue (!), Frost Blue, Blue Flame, Ghost White, Magic Blue (VGC), Denim Blue Plates/Bone: Handle Wood (SW), Bone White (VGC), Pearl White, Crea
  15. I think "Corporeal Shadow" and I are going to be good friends. Washes to follow.
  16. Many moons ago, when the first official preview for D&D 5E were coming out, a friend and I were discussing that the Paladin preview had a Half-Orc as the example art, and it would be interesting to see more atypical race/class combos in the books. He had suggested a Tiefling Barbarian, and lo and behold, not but five minutes later, WotC previewed the Barbarian and it was...a generic Viking style Human. Later that day, during downtime at work, I thought I'd make it up to both of us and sketch out a concept for a Tiefling Barbarian. I kept the 4E & 5E pact-style Tieflings, and took a
  17. I have been working on this mini for the last weeks. I did not have a lot of time to paint and forgot to make a wip.. The first time I saw the Friar I was reminded of a painting I saw a long time ago of a Japanese monk on a bridge. So I painted him as a monk and made a bridge out of balsa and plastic card. I also wanted a tree with blossoms. The tree took a few tries before I was happy with it. The Friar wip. Building the base Trees tries 1 and 2 The final tree Added stones and sand to the base and base colors Added blossom to the tre
  18. Okie dokie, I have a new idea! See, I love the SL Dark Sword sculpt The Lovers. It's just so sweet. Normally when I look at a sculpt I try to accentuate whatever emotion I imagine the artist trying to evoke and build on that with my paint choice, basing and composition. This one reminds me of a wedding. I get all teary-eyed just thinking about the happiness. Lately though, I'm in the process of killing off my main protagonist in a story I'm writing. Don't hate me. It's necessary to drive the character arcs for my 3 main supporting characters. Plus, I feel like a story always
  19. First, a quick story. While falling asleep last night, I tried to come up with a plan for the Open category at Reapercon. The theme is horror, so I needed something suitable. What's scary? Hmmmn. Something scary. I liked Kuro's tentacle project. Something with tentacles? Hmmmn. Scary... what are kids afraid of... I sat bolt upright in bed. A Nightmare! It's perfect! I can mutilate a bunch of Bones I'll never get around to painting and make all the rest from greenstuff and sculpey. I can use Talespinner's awesome Bones bed and make a little kid huddling under a blanket. I
  20. My third and final bust (for now) from Heroes & Villains Miniatures. This one is "Jacobite Highlander: Culloden Moor, 1746." The big challenge here is, of course, going to be the tartans. From my research, it looks like pretty much every piece of the outfit could be a different plaid, but I'm not sure yet if I'm going to leave the shirt and/or jacket a solid color for my own sanity. This is definitely going to be the most extensive freehand I've ever attempted. He also has a few accessories that I haven't attached yet, and even came with another, much angrier and beardier head. I probably
  21. I edited this post include a list of my tutorials: Sculpey Base Tutorial Marble Base Tutorial Maple Tree Tutorial Ode to Blue Face Painting Tutorial Original start of WIP: I've been meaning to start a running WIP thread. Might as well use this. I've been working on the Bones "Ice" Spider. I'd wanted to get it finished for the Winter Wonderland theme, but work interfered. We had a door related accident, and a glass bowl suffered, so I saved some pieces thinking they'd make good bases. The remainder of the glass is "seaglass" and some painted sculpey surrounding it. T

  23. This is continued from my summer thread here. These are my old threads if you want them. there are a few tutorials linked on the last one. Jan-April 2013-14 So, I'm bound and determined to finish this cursedly large dragon! Right, working on the sides from a few different angle: The goal here is to make sure I get enough contrast and also have a gradient from light to dark. The leg: Still in progress... every time I get a few layers down there are a thousand more waiting! The tail: ...and here is the in progress: Still have lots to do but making progress
  24. Thought I'd go ahead and share the latest from my painting desk. Working on the Incredible Hulk miniature from Knight Models: Yeah, he's nearly done and will likely be finished up quite easily during my next painting session, but I'm definitely quite happy with how it's progressing. Just need to paint the shirt, the chunk of wall, and the ground/base - but I have his opponent lined up to paint in the Hulkbuster Armor. And then I'll need to come up with a ruleset to play them with... The most interesting part about this model is a new technique that I heard about combining super
