  1. Finished up these two ladies yesterday. And with their completion, I'm now officially out of Nolzur's Dwarves to paint until I go get more.
  2. A quick paintjob on one of the D&D Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures line, the Umber Hulk! My somewhat local gaming store finally had them back in stock...still no luck on the elusive Beholder!
  3. If I like a D&D race as much as I like Dragonborn, it's Dwarves. I especially like Dwarf minis that kinda break the "huge axe/hammer weilding, armored to the gills, not very mobile" Dwarf mold. This Dwarf lady seems to fit that preference quite well. It was also a pretty jarring mini to paint after completing the comparatively huge Blightfang.
  4. I picked up the Behold from Wizkids and I really like it. Especially for the price. I chucked out the translucent cover for the eye as that was junk and I used Tamiya Translucent inks for the energy blasts. I think it turned out pretty good.
  5. Just a few figures from the latest wave of Wizkid's Dungeons & Dragons: Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures line. I think the line has improved a lot. For whatever reason, my phone didn't want to focus on the thin Dragonborn faces. The only non-Dragonborn in the crew, a "Female Dwarf Barbarian". She seems a bit heavily armored for that role to me, but I was impressed with her design from the first render preview.
  6. This is the wagon/cart from Nolzur's marvelous miniatures, by Wizkids. Nothing special, just a quick tabletop paint job.
  7. Well, I'm not actually painting anything at work today...because I'm not going to work today. Suffice to say, we tried a new Chinese restaurant the other day, and it has not gone well. BUT! I posted a teaser in my last Lunch Sessions thread, and now I can go ahead and start this one. Prep work is done, so when I do get back into the office I can actually start laying paint. Here's what's going on this time around: Privateer Press has just started their Minicrate program, a subscription-based monthly "crate" of, well, miniatures. They are all special edition minis availa
  8. So I decided to at least try to not nitpick something. This is the fastest I have ever painted an item. It took prpbably 30mins - 1hr, mostly due to paint drying before a wash. Paint was determined by "fits purpose and is in reach without seeking". Not my best by far, but it is an achievement for me to NOT nitpick things!
  9. I used the same combo of copper verdigris wash and maggot white on these. For some reason any pictures I tried to take of other angles didn't come out well. Perhaps they're shy.
  10. I refer to these two as "Mullet" and "Bub". I used Bronzed Skin with a wash of Druchii Violet highlighted with Bronzed Highlight which I really liked the results of. Bub's clothing was Vallejo German Field Grey and Luftwafe Uniform WW2, as I hadn't used those for anything yet and wanted to try them out. I discovered that after putting the Vallejo Matt Varnish on them that what once was dull is now glossy.
  11. I've been testing out the new WizKids ready to paints. It was just the simple beasts for now, but I wasn't too impressed with the PC sculpts. I'm hoping they improve the QC for the next wave, there's some cool designs coming. The pack: The Displacer Beast: The Blink Dog:
  12. So even though I haven't been W.I.P.ping, I have been painting here and there.... This is the WizKids Dreadlock Troll, that I decided to paint as an Ice Troll for our current Frostgrave Campaign.... He has various pale greys and off whites, then very dilute GW Blue ink Glazed on the skin, GW Snakebite Leather on his loin cloth, and SC75 SS Camo Shadow and SC75 Field Grey 50% on his hair.... Thanks for looking! The Mojo May Return....
  13. Both pictures are of the same mini, but I actually did two of these at once for practice. Pretty pleased with the results outside of a few stark transitions, may go back and touch it up and try and add more depth to the hair.
  14. One of MrBoot's coworkers found out that I painted minis (apparently my husband has been, ah, talking about my skills at work ), and wanted to know if I would be willing to take a commission for his player character. He provided the figure, a Wizkids male elf sorcerer, with a neat translucent fireball spell effect surrounding one hand, as well as his character's background and some details he'd like. I asked some clarifying questions about color scheme and the base and such, as well as explained generally how much different paint job qualities would be. He opted for my "deluxe" level, which i
  15. Cleaned up my table today! Granted it's not spotless cause if it was I couldn't find anything..... Even more more exciting I painted a mini!! It's been awhile, as early Febuary was my last brush to mini attempt. Of course that attempt is now just sitting on my table saying "Hey when are you gonna paint me, hmmmm??" Anyways I'm gonna attempt to put up a WiP for this one as well. I'm not exactly sure how far I'll go with his WiP as I'm bad at updating things like WiPs & such. I forgot to take a pic of the raw mini but this is the other o
  16. I saw these on the rack of the gaming store and had to try them out (along with a displacer beast and griffon) They are far more spindly and lizardlike than the bones kobolds, and fit the artwork of Pathfinder and later editions. the Reaper ones are bulkier and more dog like. Also most of my kobolds were the first minis I painted, this decade, and the primer I used means they remain sticky 4 years later. If they work great I was considering on spending 4$ for each set of 3, and by enough for an encounter of 12-15. My review of Wizkids minis: 1)mold lines. yup, they
  17. Welcome! This is my first thread here, and I wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone for the knowledge and inspiration that I have already received from this site. I painted some when I was in college about 20 years ago. Mostly GW stuff as it was easily obtained. Most of it was fairly flat. No wash, layering, glazes, ... However, I did do a little with drybrushing. The back of the cloaks on the Wood Elf Wayfinders very much screamed for drybrushing. I've spent my last few months getting an area in my garage cleared for me to paint., as well as picking up a few supplies. Mo
  18. Did some painting this weekend and I was pleasently surprised that I managed to finish my latest purchases, All are speedpaints with a heavy dose of Army Painters Strong Tone wash to finish them. A few gnolls (Gnolls, Gnoll Slaver and Gnoll Warriors) Two grimlocks Two kobold guards Three kuo-toas (one archpriest and two regular) Two lizardman fighters One roper. I'm really pleased with how this one turned out.
  19. A few quick repaints. I'm quite pleased with how the gnoll turned out with such little effort. Barghest Savagers (the photo is to bright but the minis aren't important enough for me to fix it :) Gnoll Barbarian Wolf Spiders
  20. Maftets are a winged human/lion blend that I think are unique to Pathfinder. Since the pre-paints are the only minis for them that I know of, I got a three of them. While the other two looked like standard WizKids fair, this poor girl arrived with splotches of silver on her skin, so I figured I'd do a repaint and base her coloring on the bestiary entry. Warning: Nudity
  21. Was wondering what the consensus is on repainting LE figures. The figure I am looking at repainting is the wizkids Cthulhu. It is a LE figure in the horror clicks line. (Here is a rough picture) I am thinking of changing its color scheme to fit my idea what it is supposed to look like. I'm asking cause i don't know if it is taboo to do that. Then the next question is how best to go about it? Like if i need to strip it and how to. Also the best way to rebase it off the game base. I will probably never play the game so I don't need it on that clicky base. Thanks Joe
  22. I was debating posting this since there was already a zombie done for the V-Day challenge, but you can never have too many zombies, right? I figure somebody should represent the bah-humbug crowd for this holiday, lol, so since the other zombie was cute, I figured I'd be a contrary so-and-so and do this one more gruesome... Thus, a zombie ripping his own heart out of his chest to give to you... ::D: I call it "To Hell With From Hell With Love", lol... Better pics possibly forthcoming. (You can't really see the nice blood spatter dripping from the hole, lol. On the other ha
