  1. The setting for All Of Them VVitches is just full of cults. We've seen the masked and horned cult of the PIPER IN THE WOODS and the slimy-tentacled cult of the HUNGER IN THE GULF. There are regular Margaret Murray style witches and plague doctor sects. One of the rarer cults is that of HIS MAJESTY THE WORM. It's not really a social sort of cult. And the transformations visited upon its votaries are...abject. The lucky ones find themselves hosts for a writhing mass of HIS MAJESTY's subjects (03023, Worm Corpse, posted long ago but retouched here). Of these Ibn Schacabao has written plenty and no more need be said. But there is another manifestation of HIS MAJESTY's favor, and this is not wholesome to look upon. Too bad! You're about to look upon it! Ligotti wrote of transmogrifications like this. Perhaps the transformed cultists meet and communicate together, but if so, it is deep under the earth, and silently. Notice the strategic placement of tombstones: while it would be an insult to medicine and humanity to call this model 'anatomically complete,' it certainly will not pass decency standards uncensored. As above, so below. as it were. This horrible model is also from CP Miniatures, again their Night Terrors line. This one is listed as a Night Horror and certainly that checks out. I think I've alluded to the indie RPG "Deep Morphean Transmissions" before. The Night Horror above would be a perfect model for the Burrowing Vorm, a transdimensional gestalt entity of leech-faced creeps. I need to find some more like this, but perhaps with pants.
  2. It's definitely a worm, and it's definitely purple. Speed paint. .
  3. Hello everyone, the madness goes on. On todays menu we have 44105, Giant Maggots. These Bones Black models were sculpted by Kevin Williams. I did a 09282, maggot white and a 09039, pure white glazing on them to give them a transparent and organic aspect.
  4. Howdy, Here is my take... It has an amethyst sheen that is not pronounced in these pics, Kev!
  5. Good day everyone, here are a few pictures of the 03017, Charnel Grub aka Carrion Cralwer I painted for the diorama I recently finished. This metal Dark Heaven Legends model was sculpted by Jason Wiebe and is also avalable in Bones under SKU # 77226.
  6. As usual, here's another project started ... this, along with some other stuff I will be posting { *insert future time code* } once I have made a bit more progress on them, are part of ... As some of you may have seen, Goremaw has been sitting on my desk since we moved in and I received my Bones 3 order. I recently received another Kickstarter order that started me down my Holiday Vacation path ... Stonehaven's Giants and Stonehaven's Adventurers. I received 11 new giants to add to the Joten horde. At the last Paint Day, I cleaned all eleven resin minis and then the following day I based them all and finished prepping them by priming them with my Armor Spray Primer. Six of them were primed black for a dark starting point and 5 were primed white. I also wanted to work on the base for my Reaper Fire Giant Jailor from Bones 3. He was "assembled" but wouldn't stay standing on his base very well on my desk. Keep an eye out for his WIP. That inevitably led to Goremaw getting his base suped up and his minor gaps filled. No, that's not sugar ... just cheap (clearance) sand. There are two grades of sand on there. The red is like sugar crystals. The darker brown around the base is actual Virginia sand from the beach near Yorktown. It filled in over the red sand and makes a more earthy surface than the "pebbles" the red sand will be. The whole thing is sealed with Testor's Dullcote to allow me to spray the Primer on it. As you can see the cracks in the bark make for excellent rocks. The pink from the sand will come into play a bit when I incorporate the blue from the Timeless Desert. Oh, right, I haven't explained my Blue Work of Markshire. Markshire is my PnP campaign world and was a Neverwinter Nights (video game) persistent world for a bit. The Blue Worms are rare monsters that inhabit the Timeless Desert. A frozen wasteland that used to be a vast grassland. You can read more about Markshire and specifically the Timeless Desert on my Markshire.com website. Here's a screenshot from the game area: Intentions for Goremaw: Blue Hide with lighter blue, almost white Ridges. Blue similar to the Horizon in the pic above. The Spines on the body will be darker colored. Not sure if it will be a blue or perhaps a black like a claw. The mandibles will be purplish color, closer to mauve. The fangs will be bright white at the points and duller near the mandibles. The inner mouth will be more classic red coloring The belly will be a lighter blue tinged with a pink/purple for the softer tissue The sand will reflect the twilight blue of the desert pictured above, which is why the red will help bring in some depth of color. The stones will all be granite and similar in coloring There you have it. The start of the Holiday Vacation Series '17. Oh, yeah, you may be wonder what I mean by "Holiday Vacation Series" ... well, I have 8 days of vacation left and two large holidays. I simply don't have the means to take two the time in one large vacation. So I've scheduled myself to be off 4 Mondays prior to my usual Christmas week vacation between Christmas day and New Year's day. By far the SLOWEST week of our year. So, technically, this gives me ... does the math ... a lot of days off. We close for Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are also paid holidays. But, what exactly am I going to be doing with this series ... nothing specific. I am just trying to keep myself motivated and you all excited for the next post. Stay tuned and Enjoy

  8. This is an old metal Cthonian aka Carnivorous Worm, from the Call of Cthulhu line made by RAFM co. It was painted in less than an hour, entirely by drybrushing up from a black undercoat. No washes or layering used. The base is bespoke 3D printed and measures 85x60mm. I believe this miniature still is available from RAFM.
  9. These were a couple recent projects, so happy with how they came out, can’t wait til they make it to the table...I particularly like the folds on the worm.
  10. Sorry for the terrible pic but I promised to show the dark elf worm riders with my modded weapons and assembled worms. The pic also shows the legs of one of the worms as I received them and with my sculpting add ons. The legs looked unfinished to me so I roughed them up and finished them myself. The rest of the models were very detailed so it's weird they didn't do the legs. I figure I might as well do the command group too so I'll upload more pics of them hopefully better pics.
  11. Here is another semi WIP thread for another Bones 3 model. My youngest son had painted him in a nice coat of ultramarine blue and had left him. I then have the fun task of finishing it off to some reasonable level. So so after a couple of coats green and some dry brushing I got to this stage. I am actually really happy how this turned out. I am not sure I would have attempted the blue under the green, but it seems to work well. Anyway onto the base, didn't realise how much detail it had. As always comments welcome.
  12. Hi, Here is my first painted mini from Bones 3: the "Great Maw". I really love the size and weight of this "miniature" (not sure if we can still cal it "mini"). Most of the paint was done with washes on simple black and white primer. I added some high gloss varnish and some 2 part epoxy glue in some places for added slime effect. C&C Welcome. And at least, now, my Mashaaf has a friend to terrorize players with:
  13. While waiting for water effects to dry (more boring than paint) I finished up a couple minis that have been on the desk for a while. His one here is a favorite. Got all rainbow inspired when painting up a great worm. This was the first mini where I'd used the sand/gravel and glue mix to "sculpt" a base. Had lots of rocks to stick into it as it dried. After a dark primer and light drybrush, I liked the look of it so much I didn't want to paint over it for a few months. Well I finally brought it back to the painting desk about a month ago and have been hitting the rocks with various leftover Browns and grays. I was not entirely happy with he underside until I thought to drybrush a fleshy color (suntan flesh) and it really did it for me. What do you think?
  14. Hi everyone, Here is a piece i could almost done completely by airbrush, thanks to the overall simplicity of design and that will bring terror to our Frostgrave games from now on :)
  15. Working on secret sophie gift #2.. thought I'd try out the new light box a bit too..
  16. A few months ago I began working on the Mashaaf, Great Old One, add-on figure from Bones II, and had gotten as far as washing it, assembling it, and spraying it with a base coat. It had then sat gathering dust, waiting for me to find inspiration to complete it. Then, with the successful competition of my Kalladrax figure a couple weeks ago, I felt emboldened to bite the bullet and finish this figure up as well. When purchasing this figure I had some vague idea of using it for my Pulp mash-up Space1889/John Carter of Mars games, so I pictured in some sort of tan, brown, reddish type of color scheme. However, I didn't want to limit it to just Mars, so I wanted to tone the base colors down so they might just as well blend in with any desert setting. I'm happy with how it turned out, and look forward to getting it into a game. :) Full step-by-step painting article on my blog: Painting Mashaaf
  17. These are the minis I painted for Fealron for Secret Sophie. He said he was wanting some monsters that would live in a cavern or ice cavern. So, I imagined Ankheg (77230) as the mother and the channel grub (77226) as the larva. I painted the channel grub in blues and purples with yucky pink suckers. I used a little water effect on the slime trail it was sitting on. (Like a giant yucky slug!) I just painted the base for gaming like it was shiny ice. I used a gloss varnish because I wanted the grub to look slimy and icky! I wanted to use the same color scheme for the mother but I wanted her to look like she had a hard shell. I wanted it to look slightly iridescent like a big bug. I used shades of purple and blue and mixed in some bronze metallic. It doesn't show well in the pictures. I painted her base to match the grub's. The last guy is Kegg, Bugbear Hunter (77233). I wanted him to be usable in or out of a cavern. I gave him a badger fur pattern. I wanted him to appear to live in a colder climate so his loincloth is made from the pelt of a snow leopard. I tried my hand at "rusting" his shield and axe. I ended up really liking him and if I didn't have so many minis in queue, I would have to make a tribe of bugbears! I love the bugbears anyway! I hope these 3 cause a lot of trouble for some adventurers!
  18. http://www.hodderscape.co.uk/11-majestic-handmade-dune-sandworms/ I just noticed the second one is actually a worm sign. Augh.
  19. This is a really odd figure, but I was looking for a burrowing creature, and this guy fit the bill. Biggest challenge was to find a paint scheme that looked rocky and organic at the same time. A floor wax coating on the teeth and tongue after the flat sealer gave the appropriate "wet" appearance. Kevin in Edmonton http://www.mageknightkevin.blogspot.ca
  20. Frost Wyrm Sculpted by Kevin Williams I got Auberon for the exchange. I decided to go a different direction for this than the name would suggest, "frost." The "spots" are GW:brown (that I can't remember the name of right now) with upper highlights using Pearl White (a metallic paint) then a a glaze of a Vallejo Orange and a re-highlight of the Pearl white. The eyes are ALL metallic's and the base is from the Michael's Arts and Craft. Wood rounds. I used Reaper Ginger bread paint for the base, washed it and dry brushed it. All in all I think it turned out well. For my first large monster I think it looks good. I hope Auberon likes it.
  21. Here is another great monster in the D&D world. These type mini's are so much fun to paint. I can't wait to put this down on the map in our d&d adventure game night. Hope you all like. Here is the WIP thread - http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/59921-dd-collectors-series-purple-worm-wip/
  22. Rugg, Bugbear Leader One of the Bones2 bugbears. I'm really pleased with the result. Great Worm The very popular great worm. My version doesn't hold any of the vast creativity that has been unleashed upon this model but I think it turned out quite nice despite it's "mundaness".
  23. Well this my take on the Mashaaf figure. Mashaaf the Devourer of Worlds. ~She is One of the Great old ones from the outer planes. Her home is a deep chasm in the bowls of the earth. She only surfaces to feed during great cataclysmic events or when called upon by her followers with a horrific ceremony. Legends say she feeds on the nightmares of people during times of strife.~ The figure to me looks to be a amalgamation of Slug, Maggot, Caterpillar, Spider and maybe some Crab. I tried to make it look as though her top was possibly a hard surface the stone fused to it. I also tried to make the belly portion look slimy and light emitting like a glow worm. I also wanted to try and make it look like she had purple internals partially showing through her skin, but wasn't able to figure out how to do it. In the process I have about 8 coats of various paints on the belly. So I just went with stripes for coloration contrasts. Also the glow effect I tried on the base doesn't show to well in the photos but it is obvious when looking at it. I'm still learning and developing my skills and being my 3rd figure to do since my long (25+ years) break from painting I like it. Was fun painting and putting the base together. Also I am using a tablet for my camera and no light box. Still trying to figure out how to take good pictures too. 3 different front views hoping you can see the glow and eyes. First time ever doing multicolored eyes effect. 2 side views for the back detail. Its another perspective on the figure. I brought to the game room and the guys liked it and can't wait to see it used in a game. C&C always appreciated. Joe
