  1. I haven't posted here much, as I lost painting last year to depression. But I have made great strides, both in battling the mind disease and in painting! It's not Reaper, but I wanted to show off these Malifaux Gremlins because I am so proud of them. I look forward to posting more here as I paint. I have a whole shelf of Reaper minis in my backlog! - Magic Brew
  2. So I figured I'd just start a WIP thread, rather than clutter up the forum with unnecessary extras. I hate disorder (although you wouldn't be able to tell that from looking at my workspace! LOL) This week's been mostly working on Gremlins from Malifaux, I have Somer, Slophaulers and Skeeters almost done. Still waiting on flying stand order to come in for Skeeters. Somer's the Bayou Boss, and I have other Bayou Gremlins in my pile of to-be-done but we'll see how long it takes me to get to them. Betrayal at Calth (BAC) is a GW box set of Space Marines that's both a board game and a kind of starter set for Horus Heresy 30k (which takes place before the Warhammer 40k sci fi - just for those who don't follow this). My LGS is doing an escalation league for 30k, and is running a contest for painting the box set. it's about 38 miniatures I think. Really hoping I win, even if I don't play the game because the prize is a free Horus Heresy book of our choice And I love books, even more than I love models so books about models... I'm THERE! Anyway here's my pics (except for the BAC which is still currently in its box lol) ^^ Slophaulers - because they, wait for it, haul slop Just finishing base really on these guys Somer - almost done, working on base now and just need cloth highlighted I think ^^ Skeeters (mosquitos) - trying out colour scheme, pretty much still basecoating although I did highlight their backs, wings and eyes (which still need glaze) Also trying to work on getting more lighting in my room for my light box :( so maybe my pictures will come out better =/ C&C is always welcome :) It helps me get better!
  3. I started painting these three pieces after having them in the wings for awhile: The Scarecrow & her Minion are Bombshell Babe minis, the Witch is a Ral Parhta/Iron Wind, the Voodoo Guy is a Wyrd, & the Pumpkinhead is mine: Hopefully they will progress without further delay/interruption...unlikely as that is.
  4. Thanks to critical Role I have acquired a new player in our group! They're playing a goblin monk named Butterbug, and picked out this mini a while back as one of the representations for them, and I offered to paint it up. This will be the version who is a security guard at a magic school. Colors are brown with blue and golden yellow accents.
  5. So, The very first mini I pulled out of the BOGW when I got it, was a Malifaux mini.... As soon as I saw it, I knew how I had to paint it! So I give you @Sylverthorne the Girlblin! Hope you like it!!!!!! George Abbreviated WIP here (Didn't have time to record everything with the need to get it done for Wednesday.....)
  6. So the BOGW arrived here earlier this week, and caused a whole bunch of trouble.... The very first mini I pulled out of the box, is the one this wip is about.... The same thing happened last year when I pulled an anthropomorphic duck from that box....... So I cleaned her up, primed her, base coated the skin with WC Olive 5, put some WC one coat Beige in her eyes, then some WC Red 1 over that... and there it stands for the moment... Wonder if I can get her done by con....
  7. Cackling maniacally, Maude, The Swamp Hag, flies through the Mushroom Forest. Maude is actually a Wyrd Amo No Zako, whatever that is, but to me & the Goblins of The Swamp, she is the Avatar of the Goddess Maude, Patroness of Goblin kind & Mushrooms...not necessarily in that order. All that aside, lets get back to the cackling & flying part: ...AND, invoking the name of their union's shop steward, The Mushrooms demanded some photos of their own. SO: ...this is the scene from a distance: ...now on to new, or,perhaps, old adventures...or not.
  8. Here are a couple minis that I painted for a client a while ago but never got around to posting. From what I could tell, he plays a little bit of every faction.
  9. I thought it might be best to consolidate my ongoing Red Ghoul efforts under one roof. The previously completed miniatures are pictured above (from Reaper, Otherworld, and Fractured Dimensions). The latest additions from Reaper, Otherworld, and Wyrd (AKA Dennis, Margret, and Ruff). More pictures and details of these three at Minis by Finch.
  10. Recently decided to paint up McTavish from Malifaux. I don't play the game, but I wanted to paint an alligator. Definitely gave my greens a workout on this one. I'm really happy with how the belly scales came out. I used tusk ivory and then the GW sepia wash, then re-highlighted with more tusk ivory and a little linen white.
  11. So here's one I did in honour of Halloween and for a FB contest (ala Troll's Den). He was finished a bit ago, I don't have good pictures of him, just my phone stuff. He's waiting for his friends :D I've since fixed his pose as it was pretty hard to figure out how to get him on the little stone wall he stands on, properly. First time really using purple as a main colour. I wanted to do something other than the usual black for bat type thing. And I started his shorts off as an orange, transitioning up closer to yellow. All of which was new and different for me! I like how some of the higlights on the body came out, not so happy with the shorts. These models are quite detailed and small and I had a hard time seeing tbh. Anyway, onwards and upwards, as they say!
  12. I'm on a devil kick at the moment. Wyrd's Lilitu (metal version). Anyone know who the sculptor is? The Cinnamon Red received as a freebie during the 12 days of Christmas sale is proving well suited to for devil skin. More pics/info on my blog.
  13. So I put this guy together today and painted him o.O bit of a quick job for me but he was really fun to paint. Still working on taking better pictures sigh. I was trying to get a good shot of his shirt because I did a little cute thing on it. But his arms kinda cast a shadow on it. Anyway, hopefullly it's still recognizable
  14. With apologies for another "20" joke. So one day I saw ol' Raphael LaCroix, and I was rather taken with him. A gunslinging goblin! Go figure. My brain started plotting. I ordered me a Raphael when I saw him on sale. Then a while later I saw Ophelia and Rami on sale. I had to have them. Then I saw Pere Ravage. And the gang was about complete. Next session we have (next weekend, knock on wood), my players will be having an old-school showdown straight out of the talkies. A village's children have been kidnapped by savage, but oddly crafty, goblins who've come by guns, not altogether scarce in our world . . . and some fancy duds. Generated them as NPCs using the ARG rules, and they are absolutely freakin' killer. Should be a great and challenging string of encounters for my group. I shot for "simple and done" with these, pretty much. They were a lot of fun, though. First up is Raphael LaCroix, aka Jathan. Leader of the gang, he's the meanest and deadliest 'slinger around. Next is Ophelia, aka Eloise. Nearly as deadly as her lover Jathan, she's also, she'll be quick to tell you, much sexier than he. One is wise to keep an eye on her at all times. Rami LaCroix, aka Dom, is perhaps the least speedy and experienced of his kin. What he lacks in mobility, however, he makes up for with the brutal use of his axe musket (not pictured) as he switches from firing shells to crushing skulls. Finally, Pere Ravage, aka Gibberz. Gibberz morphed around on me, going from modified grenade-slinging gunslinger to alchemist. I think it worked in his favor. The heart and philosophical soul of the gang, Gibberz is an immaculately dressed and crafty foe, using bombs and magic to strike and run. Some say there is another, a mysterious stranger who operates in the shadows to aid the gang . . . but for now this remains only a rumor. Thanks for looking!
  15. Working on getting this guy's wings on o.O bit difficult. I had to run out and buy more metal paint, nothing was working well. Really hoping this holds. The wings come with kind of build in pins, but it's not really obvious how they go on, to me. So I had a gander at the gallery here. Have to keep that for reference! This is a little scene for my Wyrd Iron Painter round 2 entry, the theme is "Better off (Un)Dead". I'm calling it "Fetch". At first I thought I should have the undead dogs chasing a car... but I couldn't find enough car parts. So then I thought, they could be playing fetch with bones, that you wouldn't expect them to fetch! Then I thought, ah HA what if said bones are still attached?! lol Well, that's the thought anyway. I have to work out placement tho, I think I will have the two smaller dogs be trying to pull 'bones' off the Dragon, while the bigger one looks on nonchalantly. Good thing they're undead ;) If I can get enough time I'm going to stick the Dragon in a small treasure pile, but not sure. Still working it out. Suggestions are welcome!
  16. Gotta just call it done, here s/he is in all his/er glory (I dunno always thought it was a guy but lore calls out girl, whatev, it's a gremlin so it's up for debate)
  17. Just finished these tonight - or well almost, as I was taking this pic, I realized I'd forgotten one of the gremlins faces >< sigh - anyway they're not great, but they're done. I had a really hard time lining up the arms with the rifles (they're in 3! pieces) and once I had that done, I didn't realize the head almost didn't fit. Yes, I dryfitted them but wyrd's stuff's a bit... erm weird sometimes. Anyway, they are indeed together, hopefully they'll stay that way once I start playing with them lol.
  18. Just a little while ago, I got a commission to paint up a couple of McMourning's ladies. The bases are green stuff creations. I don't think they need any further introduction:
  19. Here are a couple Wyrd minis that I got to paint up just a little while ago. These are both the metal versions of the characters. Wyrd has been switching their line to plastic, and with some very nice results, but it is also nice to go back and paint up the metals ones too. It isn't like Wyrd had a poor range before their move to plastic, you know? In fact, in a few instances, I really miss the old metal versions. Anyway, here they are- the Dead Rider and Governor's proxy
  20. Here's Angelica- one of the Showgirls of Malifaux.
  21. Here are some Guild minis that I painted up just a little while ago. I really felt that the skin tones should vary among the crew, and here are the results:
  22. I finished of the Ice Golem and Ice Gamin from the Malifaux Children of December Crew. I still have to tackle Rasputina and the Wendigo. I am pretty happy with the paint except for a few spots where the wash dried funny on the Golem. The snowy basing material I used didn't turn out the way I had hoped. It seems a little thin and grainy to me. It also gets EVERYWHERE. I tried to keep it off the rim of the bases for the pics but it was a losing battle. Maybe next time I will put some fine ballast on before applying the snow, or just use the ballast and paint it. Anyone have any suggestions on snow bases? C&C is appreciated, thanks. WIP Thread Ice Golem Some more views of the golem: Ice Gamin
  23. Just a couple of creepy minis I've been working on between other things (Rope guy was painted up a couple of months ago, Wire guy last week). Didn't put too much time or effort into either of them, but I think they turned out really good. Comments and criticisms are, as always, most appreciated.
  24. I had originally started painting a chibi wizard for the Resolutionary Painting challenge. He is turning out better than I expected so I want to spend extra time on him and do some extra shading and highlighting. Due to the month being super effeicient at taking up my free time I don't think I will be able to finish him and 3 others to keep up with the challenge so I am going to put him off for a while. Instead I am going to paint up the Ice Golem and Ice Gamins from the Children of December crew I bought a couple years ago. They should be easier (famous last words!) to finish by the end of the month. Here is what I have got so far. The colors I am using are: Basecoat - 29814 - Ice Blue Shade/Wash - Citadel Drakenhof Nightshade Highlights will be 09021 - Snow Shadow and 09063 - Ghost White The gamin already have the wash applied. The golem still needs the basecoat finished.
  25. I spent a lot longer than my average time on this delightful mini from Darksword, and I think it shows. I am very happy with him. His little buddy is from Wyrd Miniatures, the swamp accessories pack I think.
