A few weeks ago I made a bit of a cheeky post where "Lassie" tried to get some help for poor Timmy (who had, quite unsurprisingly, fallen down a well). Well, the Thing in the Well wasn't quite finished at the time. That has since been rectified. I present to you: The Thing in the Well/The Well of Doom! The well was painted up with my favorite craft paint combo: Delta Ceramcoat Chocolate Cherry, Burnt Sienna, and Terra Cotta. Truly great stuff! And it's not grey! I honestly think I'm going to use that trio for most of my stone scenery. I left the fluid unattached and painted the inside of the well with a couple shades of dark blue (I no longer remember which ones). But I'm not sure whether or not I'll ever take the brain out of the well, so it was just a whim and not anything really planned. The first part of the beastie I tackled was the well "water." I knew I wasn't going to paint it up like blue water. I was hoping to create a rather unnatural vibe. I thought about green, but ended up using the NMM Gold triad. I don't know if I got the shading right, as I was trying to make the fluid darker where it would be thicker/deeper and paler near the edges and peaks. The brain was next. I used the Vampiric Skin triad for the grey matter. The veins/arteries along the surface were originally going to be red...and then I remembered that squid blood isn't red. Squid blood is blue. So out went the red (not for the only time this project). I used Nightmare Black to serve as a base for Ritterlich Blue and Brilliant Blue topped off the highlights. You can't see the "cerebellum," but I used Imperial Purple, Amethyst Purple, and Spectral White to paint it up. I was on a "cool" colors kick. And then the tentacles. Ugh. Not "ick," "ugh." My original, scatter-brained plan was to try to emulate the humboldt squid. Those rather nasty pieces of work pulse red when they're agitated. So I painted the backs of all the tentacles red. Then I put the fluid in the well and started dry-fitting the tentacles. It didn't work. None of it. Not the shade of red and not the fit of the tentacles. I ended up pinning four of the tentacles to the fluid base. There just didn't seem to be enough "plug" on them to properly sit in the base and I didn't want to drown the thing in glue. One of those pins is rather questionable, though, but it's all holding for now. The mold lines are another issue. I should have checked more carefully before I started, but these aren't for much beyond my own grins and giggles. I can forgive a few mold lines. After getting the tentacles nice and attached, I pondered for a bit and ended up choosing the Twilight Colors triad (another favorite) for the backs. I chose the Rosy Flesh triad for the underside of the tentacles, and the Bone Colors Triad for the hooks on the suckers. And that's about it. Thanks for stopping by!

Good day everyone, here's a Wizards of the Coast woc40047, Grick. This pewter model was sculpted by Neil McKenzie in 2000 and is now out of production. It's mounted on a 25mm round base.

You've been groping underground for a while when you catch the sound of beating bat wings down the cavern ahead. A few steps more and the oozing walls open on a large cave. Small rusty-red creatures are flying in circle between stalactites, four pincer-like legs and a proboscis dangling under their hairy body. Abruptly, you notice a change in their behavior. They all hover in place and their yellowish eyes pierces in your direction. Before you have time to do anything, you are swarm by these bloodthirsty Stirges. Here are the 02691, Striges Dark Heaven Legends sculpted by Bob Olley.

Here comes the boggy 77521, Gravewailer, Dark Heaven Bones sculpted by Julie Guthrie. This ghostly aberration is also known as a Gibbering Mouther or Babélien. I painted it with acrylics, ink and sealed it with gloss brush-on sealer.

Haven’t posted anything in a while, so may as well break the silence with a WIP. I cleaned up Mashaaf, glued it together and stuck it on a CD base. Didn’t take pics until after the brown liner coat. Then base coated all but the base. The claws and leg things and tail thing got maroon red. The belly got nmm gold shadow. The upper abdomen got a sample purple color and I extended that to the bottom of the tentacles. The face and upper tentacles got entrail pink. The back and body got nightsky blue and the rocks on its back got walnut brown. Finally I used holly berry for the “eye spots” This is where it’s at right now: Probably will need another coat of each but I’ll try to get the base and rocks on the back dry brushed first since that may mess up some other areas.

This is Reaper's very own lovable version of a monster from a fairly popular RPG. I painted this up to my usual tabletop level, let me know what you think, please.

Hi everyone, it is my great pleasure today to show you my 02712, Eyebeast. It was sculpted by Julie Guthrie and can also be found in the 10031, Dungeon Horrors Box Set. I added tthe eyestalks on each side of its head. The eyestalks are from Reaper Miniatures 03440, Creature Components II. I intend to add some drool dripping from its maw. It should also be part of a diorama of horrors I have in mind.

Here is my 02737, Dung Monster. It was sculpted by Jason Wiebe and can also be found in the 10031, Dungeon Horrors Box Set. Since it's the second time I paint this model, I added four tentacles around its maw to make it look different. The tentacles are from 03334, Creature Components. Here is the LINK to the other one I painted in 2009.

For my latest group of models I wanted to paint some monsters- preferably with tentacles. I thought this "roper" would be easy enough but I decided to spice it up a little on the base. The 'shrooms are just little acorns The kids helped me collect last fall (painted the rounder ones as pumpkins). I really don't know if I put the tentacles in the right spots but I like how dynamic they make this model look.

Sorry in advance for my newbness, I've been painting for a couple years but completely new to posting and taking photos. Here is my most recent project. I clipped a torch off of a goblin pyro to throw on this beasty's base. I have not sealed this one yet. I have a lot I'd like to learn and one of them is how to seal my minis without them getting too shiny or clogging up the details. Well here it is. I do not recall the paints used - I also need to work on tracking what I use especially when mixing paints - but I am pretty sure I used the yellow and orange from the reaper holiday paint set for the torch/osl.

I said I'd introduce this fellow once I was done with my Burrowing Horror, but I need some advice on how to proceed. What can I do next to make this look more convincing and natural, whilst maintaining the vivid colors?

This was supposed to be a quick tabletop paint. The eyes and teeth are so numerous that this is a bit of a pain. Not to be taken lightly. Has anyone separated the mini to paint it in pieces and then re-glued it? It would probably be easier. There were places I couldn't get to at all. I'm pretty happy with how gooey and alien this turned out. I wanted to do the eyes in full black (I did blue liner instead) and something about the lack of pupils really works for me. I had real problems painting over the pink at some points. For whatever reason it was on pretty thick. You can see a few of the teeth have bits of flesh mixed in. It works ok, but I would've preferred getting rid of it. In my haste to finish this up, I forgot to paint the insides of the mouth with Burgundy Wine (something I'd decided on in the beginning). I'm real happy with the teeth (where not overly-pink) I went from oiled leather up to leather white (mostly in the VGC bone white). I think they look suitably gross. The skeleton inside was difficult to reach and really And the flaws - the worst mold lines I've ever left on a mini (and I leave most of them on) and a few bald patches where I probably rubbed off/ prevented paint from sticking with my grimy hands. This is a great mini though, and freaks people out even in a quick job. And now the pictures. Oh and the flesh was a mix of VGC Warlord Purple, Old West Rose, Pale Flesh and Burgundy Wine.

My three year son wanted to help me paint my bones. So I gave him the great worm and some blue paint. I figured if it turns out bad I'd just strip it. Well after looking at it, it reminded me of some random blue/orange creature but I don't recall where. So some oranges, yellows, and a red wash later, oh and for giggles alien goo green for the mouth, here it is. It's not really visible in the photos but I spotted some dirt brown around the base and along the side ridges to try and replicate coming out of the ground.
