Since I wasn't on here in 2021/2022... I wanted to post some of my favorite NMM minis. I took Almaran with me to ReaperCon last year- he ended up not being the one judged, but that's OK- I took him for some good ol' fashioned critique afterwards. And yeah, 2023 is going to be the year of "make an attempt with your bases, you dork".

So here's a dump of plate-wearers. Isabeau you've already seen here, but she appears here again in the little "diorama" I made because reasons. I came up with a little story idea for these guys, in that the paladins all wear red cloaks/capes/what-have-you and white armor. The anti-paladin was once a member of their same order, but kept his cloak as a sort of middle finger to his old friends. It's a sore spot between them all. Almaran is a bit pale as I was using the Fair Skin paints on him and have decided I'll likely stick to Rosy Skin as the absolute "fairest" I'm going to paint someone who is not undead. He looks sickly, at least in person. Also I didn't see the mold line on his face before I was painting him so he has a kind of Two Face thing going on that he shamefully hides behind his shield. I've actually painted all 3 of the paladins before. My other Almaran is floating around here somewhere. My Duke and Isabeau though are kind of laughably bad, particularly contrasted with their newer, shinier versions, at least to me. We're our own hardest critics, right? Anyway, enjoy!

I took someone's advice about keeping track of projects & colors, so here's #21 in my new MSP lineup, Almaran. I'm pretty sure everyone has one of these, right? Great character. I'll have to update this photo. I ruined the immersion with the corner, but otherwise gets the idea across. I keep seeing little things I could improve the longer I look at these, not to mention he needs a real base. My wife and I use all my figures to play various games, let alone my son's fascination for them, so there's even a little nick at the tip of the sword. Argh! Guess I'll be fixing a couple of things.

Started working on Almaran the Gold this weekend for my son. I decided to play with some new techniques and try and refine some others. I started by covering in black gesso and then cutting of his shield arm so I could work on it seperately. I airbrushed him with gray and then drybrushed with Citadel Necro compound (dry silver). I really like the way this worked for the plate and will repeat this on the next full plate I work on. For the shield, I blended some browns for the wings and have it mostly done. Still need to do the weapon on the shield and the edge. For the body, I did a small amount of the "leather" and blued in the scarf thing. I used a white paint pen to do some runes, but they aren't great. Once they dry all the way, I'll clean them up a bit more. I did the face, but man do I suck at eyes. I tried black lining the eyes, and they are better than my normal, but not by much. I brushed on some bronze to the chest piece and then drushbrushed/highlighted a bit with gold. I still have his sword to work on. I'm planning to do a red flame - white core, flourescent yellow layer followed by orange and red and a hint of black drybrush at the tips. For the orange and red, I'm going to use my airbrush and work the overspray angles to give the figure a nice OSL glow. (sorry for the super crappy pictures)
