FitzBones: Altar Stone
MojoBob posted a topic in Show Off: PaintingThis is a piece that came in the Mythos expansion pack to the Bones III kickstarter, a good old-fashioned stone sacrificial altar. Tim the Enchanter I've shown before; he's just there for scale. This is the sort of terrain piece that comes in handy quite a lot. I can foresee getting plenty of use out of it. Unfortunately, I'm a little short of terrified and helpless sacrificial victims; I shall have to see what I can do about that.
I'm covering this in my Lost World Project also. However since this is basically a Terrain Piece/Diorama thingie, I decided to make a separate WIP as well. So those who are only interested in terrain and such will also see it. It all started when @knarthex his daughter Alsnia posted a pic of her Pet Snake. Then @Pezler the Polychromatic made up a background story See my WIP page 65 http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-lost-world-project-xherman1964-paints-coldblooded-creatures-and-conquistadores/&page=65 @malefactushas always inspired me with his great terrain and he also encouraged me... And I have also read the great threads of @Chris Palmer who made fantastic jungle statues. So I knew I had to do this. I bought a Toy Anaconda and a Toy Python. The Anaconda will become Tanith. The Serpent Goddess will be repainted in albino colours like Alsnia's pet, but it will also be part stone. She is in stasis in a statue and now Alsnia the Priestess ( Bones Sarah the Seer) has been chanting and summoning until Tanith sheds her stone skin and breaks out of the statue. The Python will be a gold or bronze statuette on the back of the wall. I'm planning to put torches and sacrifices/gifts on the altar. There will be two pipes coming from the backwall and snakes will pour from those and will be crawling all over the altar. Here is what I've done so far. Then I needed to carve out the shape of the Python to embedd it into the back wall later. Too much gap will be filled with putty. There will also be much stuff likes vines and leaves all over it. So this may take a while.
Altar of Evil (Bones 77139)
knarthex posted a topic in Works in Progress: PaintingSo my Reaper order came in yesterday, and with it my Altar of Evil. I was very surprised to learn that the 'back' of the altar is the hollow part, not the bottom... I decided to make another long wall and attach it so that it can stand in the middle of a room and not look odd... So I got out the Instantmold, and Apoxie Sculpt My daughter the paint minion wanted to see the Instantmold in action, so she ended up doing all the work! We heated the instant mold in hot water, mushed it up, made a pancake, and then she pushed the long side into the mushy instantmold with firm pressure all around. When we judged the instantmold to have set, we carefully peeled it of the altar. Then she mixed up the Apoxie Sculpt and pushed it into the mold firmly. We looked for air pockets through the mold, and did not see any, so we left it to the side of my painting area to cure overnight. We made too much apoxie, so I used it to half fill the alter. I put it in a clamp to get it square and left that overnight to cure as well. So this evening, she popped it out and we looked at what she had done. The details came out very nicely, but unfortunately, when she had pushed the alter into the mold, she did not push down on the inside part of the hollow... Since Bones material is flexible, the piece had bowed inward, leaving the removed piece to be bowed inwards. Not sure if you can see the bow in the pics... I am impressed with the level of detail the instantmold captures.... So we chalked it up to a learning process, and re heated the Instantmold and did a new impression. Then filled that with Apoxie Sculpt. Comments and thoughts welcome! George
Crypt of the Vampiress + Victim on altar and Spirits.
Jaws posted a topic in Show Off: PaintingThis is what I'll be using as a casket of souls in my warhammer undead army.
