What happens when a D&D friend says "Oh, you paint minis? Here, paint all of these!" and hands you a bunch of them he's had in a box forever? This, apparently. Crossbowmen in both stupidly ostentatious gold and purple as well as in a less crazy look.

I'm not a big fan of the Stormcast Eternals Games Workshop put in their Age of Sigmar line. However, looking at some things other people have done, I realized there were basically two things I hated: The immortals-style faces, and the all-gold paint scheme. The heads aren't bad in-and-of themselves, but when every unit sports the same derpy face, it makes them look less interesting. The all-gold paint scheme made it harder to pick out details. So, I thought I'd try fixing that. As you can see, I went with a primarily steel paint for their armor with the gold functioning as more of a trim. Blue goes pretty well with both gold and steel. The steel, gold, and blue were done mostly using the Scale75 paintsets. Faces were done with various Reaper skintone paints. Blondie here got his headswap from the Space Wolves Pack. This guy's head might be recognizable as one of the Anhurian crossbowmen. Bones are great for swaps. Red's head came from Reaper's Sir Rathan Kranzhel, also in Bones. It's amazing how much difference a slightly different color scheme and some headswaps can make.

Some town guards to keep those pesky adventurers in line. Sorry for the pics, I almost forgot to post these in time so they were rushed. Edit: In all their sloppy glory!

This week I finished up the last of the Town Guard from the Bones II, Expansion 2, "Town Guard" set, by painting the Spearman figure. There's been a number of these posted here of late, so I thought I'd add mine to the forum as well. :) His spear was all bent out of shape, and I tried the usual Bones boiling water straightening method to get it right again, but just wasn't able to get it perfectly straight. While I don't mind a little "wonkiness" in a wizards staff, I felt the spear really needed to be straight. So, I replaced the Bones spear shaft with one made from a round toothpick. It was no problem slicing off the original shaft, drilling through the hand, and drilling a small indent in the bottom of the spear head, and then gluing it all back together again with Gorilla Superglue. I then did a simple tabletop paint-job on him, added an old Space Marine transfer to the shield, and based him for use with Frostgrave. As always, C & C welcome.

Continuing my quest to paint things quickly and decently rather than trying for absolute perfection. Once again hit project fatigue right near the finish line, so a few things are goofy, but... meh. Good enough. Would still appreciate feedback, of course! Especially since I have another 3 of these guys to do soon(ish). Front view: And from the back: I did boil them and get the spears straightened out, but they kinda sagged a bit again. Such is life, I suppose.

The last 2 weeks I've rushed (after work) through a set of bones Anhurians - my samples from Bones 2, and 1 pack of each of swordsmen, spearmen, bowmen, and crossbowmen. I needed fantasy soldiers eventually. First off a class photo. More photos of each to come - I just have to crop them and get them off my phone. I tried a variety of skin tones, but there wasn't much distinguishing 3 of them. I was originally planning some freehand on the shields, but decided not to after testing out my plans. I may revisit that at a later date. WIP kinda

I quickly did these right before ReaperCon to have enough minis finished for the resolution painting challenge for April. Hopefully my players will be amused by the shields. (For those not familiar, a red circle with a white dash is used on Do Not Enter signs in the US and perhaps elsewhere.)

I finally got around to painting up the L2PK1 that I've had for years...old enough that it came with the older Pro Paint in the pots! Anyway, here they are, forgive the quality from my cell phone camera. All in all I'm pleased with them, my first mini's painted in over 20 years.

I've never painted a completed mini before and with my epic swag of Bones on the way I figured I'd better get some practice in, so I bought Reaper's 'Learn 2 Paint Kits.' Just finished up the first figure from the first set, Anhurian: Went a little side-ways off of the original instructions and used a bit of Leaf Green on the grass as well as some Sun Yellow for the extra highlights. I also painted in the freehand rampant lion and extra line details on his tunic and sleeves. Having worked on this mini I can honestly say that I'm really looking forward to getting into the non-metallic-metals kit, I've never been fond of metallic paints and having worked with them now my feelings towards them haven't changed much. I'm very picky when it comes to placing my shadows and highlights and metallic paints / washes make me want to pull my hair out. I can understand why they exist, they certainly make things very fast but personally I'd prefer to spend the time to shade my own metals by hand.
