Because I have not seen one since I came here many moons ago, and even if there is such I would have to perform necromantic rituals to awaken it, I've decided to see if there is enough interest to keep one going the only way I know how. By starting it myself. So, let's discuss, just remember to keep it PG 13 and watch for spoilers. So my friends, what examples of this art form are you enjoying at present? right now I am re-reading Ken Akamatsu's break out classic 'Love Hina' and waiting for the next episode of "Outbreak Company" to air

ReaperCon 2022 vendor named Kawna Miniatures had some great sculpts and I picked this one up to paint as an Xmas gift. She’s based on a Dungeons & Lasers base as I’m a huge fan of that company too.

A little more than 48 hours left for this one, I think it looks really cool. http://kck.st/2z0HjUk Kamigakari: God Hunters is a tabletop role-playing game set in modern-day Japan that combines centuries of Japanese mythology with a modern-day setting and urban fantasy action. You play as a God Hunter, a being wielding supernatural strength, magical abilities, and reality-warping spiritual powers. Your mission is to protect an unsuspecting populace from evil beings known as Aramitama, and to prevent the supernatural from leaking into the public eye. Originally, the game was released in Japan by Arclight Games on November 2013 as Legendary Arms RPG Kamigakari, to great popularity. In January 2017, a text-only fan translation appeared on the internet, exposing Kamigakari to the attention of English-speaking RPG fans world wide, and creating a thriving fanbase that continues to grow to this day! Serpent Sea Games is a team of experienced RPG translation and development professionals, including the creator of the fan translation, who have licensed Kamigakari from the creators at Arclight Games for publication in English and want to bring the game officially to Western audiences. But we need your help to bring this book into existence! The Game The world of Kamigakari features a distinctly seinen action anime and style to it. With crazy abilities and flashy powers, it's an over-the-top world where you can battle kaijus, giant robots, gods and demons all under the same umbrella. The system is designed to keep interactions as simple and intuitive as possible, for an easy pick-up-and-play. Kamigakari splits its play up into "scenes", which are short, episodic and will often split the focus onto individual players. It's a different experience compared to western systems that often assume the party is always together, which allows for more varied and engaging character focus and development. So what is a God Hunter? A God Hunter is a person who, through one means or another, has gained supernatural powers by possessing a shard of a legendary weapon, relic, suit of armor, or maybe even the crystallized soul of a legendary hero. These powers can be anything from a master of the sword or magic, transforming hero, a living avatar of flame, or the ultimate hacker. Instead of a familiar class-based system, Kamigakari uses its own character generation called Styles, which lets you mix and match your power sets to create a gun-slinging samurai, a chainsaw-wielding magical girl, a hacker who codes his magic into existence, or a hunter who stalks his victims through the shadows. And it's not just limited to your class: weapons and gear are utilized under the Arms system, a mechanic where a base weapon is upgraded over time by using materials or spending gold. Two basic swords, in the hands of two different god hunters, can end up very different weapons after extensive modification! An average God Hunter on a normal day. Does being a God Hunter mean that you hunt gods? Of course it does! With concepts rooted in Shintoism and traditional Japanese folklore, a God Hunter is tasked with tracking down dangerous beings known as Aramitama - a dark god that is born and grows in power by devouring the souls of its victims. Aramitama come in many forms - from recognizable Japanese icons like oni and tengu, mythical beings like the Pegasus or Griffin, to eldritch monstrosities made of gnashing teeth and glowing orbs. Upon defeating an Aramitama, God Hunters can use their remains to create stronger Regalia - magical weapons and equipment, in order to face even even more powerful Aramitama. It's not just a fun gameplay loop, either: These creatures threaten the sanctity of innocents and the world in their lust to reach their ultimate form, the Avatar of Ruin, a true god of destruction capable of ending the world. It's up to the God Hunters to prevent that! An Aramitama awakens. Kamigakari utilizes the unique Numen Dice pool. Numen Dice are resource wherein you roll a set of dice and use it to pay for abilities or change the outcome of a roll. There's many ways change, swap and spend dice. Players must be careful how they manage their Numen Pool to both survive the battle and save the perfect set of Numen Dice to activate their ultimate abilities! We'd like to support this game far into the future, and plan on translating and releasing supplements if financially viable. Arclight Games has also requested the creation of original content exclusive to the western release, but that can probably wait until we have a few expansion books finished, we're only mentioning it now in the interests of full transparency.

Not as happy with Candy as I was with Sugar, but she was fun to paint. She does have pupils in her eyes, honest. I've just noticed a strip of white on the top of her left thigh. Great.

This is my third(!) attempt to paint Sugar. She almost ended up back in a bowl of Simple Green but this time I persevered. Her eyes aren't perfect but I'm happy with the way she came out — although not 100% sure about her hair — and I'm getting better at painting white. The sad-looking teddy is from the City Scenics Back Alley Accessories set by TTCombat.

As my first airbrush attempt on the Roman centurio was halted by the fact that the figure is so small, I decided to use a different figure, which would be ... bigger. So in Japan I got me a number of garage kits. One of them was a figure of a nun or mage (I don't know the figure, so I have no idea) and as it was some kind of a miscast or so, I got it for the cheap price of around 6 Euro. She's big enough to do some airbrush work. And as I want to train airbrushing, I don't want to ruin my first attempt by choosing wrong colours or too difficult painting concepts. Therefore: YOU CAN CHOOSE THE COLOURS! NO! I really mean it! Gimme some colours, people. Oh, yeah - That's the figure:

Well then, Let's go on. As written in my WIP thread ->Check Here<-, the first few Gallian infantry units for my Valkyria Chronicles scenario ->Check Here<- are done. That means: First few units are ready to be shown. As I wrote, those are units I made over a time frame of almost 4 years now, so I guess a constant quality improvement is clearly visible. Still - even if they are not perfect to the last, every of these figures is quite dear to me. As you can see, on the first two I tried to apply eyes, but it looks weird, so I am currently thinking of repainting their faces. Some details: And just to give an idea of the scale - here's Reaper's Troll Slayer Sophie for comparison: Next units are already on their way.

I finished this lady as my 3rd done since I ended my long painting hiatus. Took pictures a while ago, and until finals are done, no lightbox or new painting for me. But hey, I like the subjects, so I have that going for me. I post because I am trying to distract myself briefly without being thoroughly engrossed. Goals with her: Pale color shading on the dress. I wanted it almost white, kinda a creamy blue. I think it is ever so slightly darker than my initial goal, but still alright. Anime girl. As I was looking at her, I realized that I didn't want her to be just another Caucasian. So I tried to make her look like a cute innocent anime girl. The tiny dot on her face is an intentional "mole". Multicolor flowers, for the purpose of more color variety. Failure: that darn bird. I am seriously considering repainting it to be a bluebird. Only concern there is that I've lost some definition on the feathers, so I'd have to be very careful in doing thin layers. I tried to make it look like a yellow and green parakeet. Hair may have needed more highlighting, but it didn't have deep creases to work with, so I went minimal. okay okay, second photo is before the base was colored, but I went swiftly on that anyway and it takes little space. Fire away with the red pens

Here's Darkspace Hasami, which I finished today. She's a character from Soda Pop Miniature's Relic Knights game. This is the cosplay version of Hasami who works for an alternate faction, in this case, the Noh Empire. The costume is based off Ryuko Matoi's battle outfit from Kill la Kill (a very weird anime). The connection is that regular Hasami (hasami means "scissors" in Japanese) uses a giant pair of scissors, and Ryuko uses a "scissor blade," which is half of a giant pair of scissors (a scissor?). I had to watch a few episodes to learn that and figure out what was even going on with her outfit. The miniature is in the new resin material, which I think is produced by Prodos Games. It's definitely superior to the PVC they were using before, but is not without its faults. I painted the majority of the miniature at ReaperCon 2016, using the limited edition MSP Ghostly Moss. Other dominant colors are P3 Coal Black, MSP Clear Magenta, VGC Purple Ink and MSP Olive Skin Triad. A special shout-out to Adrift, who suggested the MSP Clear Magenta (he described it as Victoria's Secret Pink) for her panties which looked so great I used it in a bunch of other spots as well. I had a fun time getting a nice smooth blend on the scissors, but am not usually interested in spending that much time on minis.

So, I've probably just been watching too many anime shows lately, but I had an idea for an anime-type girl with a bow (and her head shaved all around the sides and just long on the top and done off to the side). I think she came out pretty well. I did a bit of a dolly that I cast in resin. That's why there is a tiny bit of white showing here and there in the midst of all the Green Stuff. There's also a hole in the resin in one leg, so I had to plug that with Green Stuff as well. Anyway, here's a front view... a side view... and a back view. Hope you enjoy her. I'm looking forward to Painting her :=) C&C always welcome!

Since I got a pretty good response from the figure I made of Frog from Chrono Trigger and from my Fullmetal Alchemist modified figures, I went on to my next challenge. I want to make a decent figure for Guts, the main character from the Berserk Manga and Anime. Now anyone who is a fan knows that finding an actual mini of him can be difficult, and I'm gonna use it for my next D&D character, so I wanted something special for it. Now I ordered 4 different reaper mini's as candidates, not sure which I'll use yet, as each has something to offer, but none are perfect. Probably will end up a mix of at least 2 figures, but the real challenge is creating Gut's sword, the Dragonslayer. So I've started with that. This is is a 2$ metal file from a local hardwares store bargain bin tool rack. As you notice, part of it is cut off the tip... This is after an hour or two with a dremmel tool, and a little grinding. I drilled a small hole at the end and used a small nail with both ends cut to make the handle. The "guard" I guess you'd call it is just a piece of cardboard, glue coated to give it a plasticy quality, cut and wrapped around the end. This is my Gnoll Figure Kabal next to it to give a size perspective of what I am making. Used some chord to make the wrap for the handle, and handled it a bunch to give it a dirtier look. Sorry for the photo quality, But these are cell phone pics. Some of the later onces I use a magnifying glass to focus the details a little clearer. Put the standard D20 there for a size comparison. With a little black paint, the cuts of the file give the rough Iron look to the weapon. It's not done yet, still some details to work out, but I'll keep posting as it goes along.

Well here is my completed Guts from the Berserk Anime and Manga. I used 02962: Killian, Bounty Hunter Not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with the results. If you like to see how I got there, here is my works in progress posts, which lists the things I mainly tried to do but failed, but I may attempt this again and better at a later date. It was quite the learning experience.

Did these as a commission job. The client requested I paint them as the reaper site list them and here's what he got! A little over 6 hours for the lot. The ones that are missing I forgot to take pictures of. I will next post!

I just came across a random link to a modest looking kickstarter that might be of interest to anime fans. It is a Miyazaki inspired RPG rulebook that sounds kid friendly. And it's only $20 for a printed rulebook, with free shipping worldwide. It isn't something I would normally back, but I like the simple looking project with sensible stretch goals, and I figure the rule book will make a nice gift for my niece. It's got a couple days left, and has already unlocked all the stretch goals. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/brentnewhall/the-whispering-road-a-miyazaki-inspired-tabletop-r

VIGNETTE TITLE...SUGAR; GOTHIC PUNK FIGURE...REAPER (SUGAR # 50176) NOTE...With Halloween just a month away; I wanted to do this figure in a hardrock gothic punk style motif as she visits an old grave yard that is the home of a giant spider (who dresses in the same color motif as does Sugar). I tried to keep the vignette simple so as to accent the matching color scheme between Sugar & Spider. I hope you like this early Halloween posting.

Finally Completed the Super Dungeon Explore Base Game
aricclark posted a topic in Show Off: Painting
It took me about 8 months to complete my Super Dungeon Explore Set. I was excited enough about this to build a lightbox and try to take proper photos of them. I had only painted maybe two dozen minis or so before I started this project so you can definitely see my skill improve over the course of the project. You can see all the photos on my flickr, but I've put a few of my favorite below. Comment. Criticize. Hurl broken glass. Whatever seems appropriate.- 8 replies
