  1. I always wanted to paint a Cronosaurus so when Antimatter Games offered on through a Kickstarter I took it. In hindsight I regret getting the FDM printed version, I should have gone for the resin one since you can clearly see the printlines on this one. On the other hand it was a good deal and it helped me to choose what kind of printer I wanted. This came preprinted Part of my Lost World Project. WIP Here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-lost-world-project-glitterwolf-paints-coldblooded-creatures-and-conquistadores/page/164/#comments Hope you enjoy the beastie.
  2. I got this one printed out in FDM from a kickstarter. In hindsight I should have chosen resin, it did help me decide to go for a resin printer myself. The printlines are visible and it's rough, I even used putty to smooth things out where I could. All in all a nice sculpt though. WIP here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/88958-beneath-the-waves-by-glitterwolf/page/5/
  3. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/unchartedrealms/rogues-gallery-3d-printable-heroes-and-monsters-of-legend Story 3D File Design Miniatures come in as a single-part with a separate base, or sliced into parts, where it helps in printing or when there are different part options, such as different weapons. For best results, we recommend resin printers as they will capture all of the fine detail of the models, though filament (FDM) printers will produce great results also. Scenery STL files are designed for FDM printing and come sliced and keyed and are set up to fit within a print area of 220 x 220 mm. STL rewards from the main pledges are set for delivery via download links after the project ends, within the first 3 weeks. Stretch goals may take longer as we may need to complete the 3D sculpting before they are available, but they should be done within 4-6 weeks. Pre-Supported We are providing the models with a pre-supported option for those that want them. Pre-supported models are created with Chitubox. Sample Prints Below are castings made from resin prints from this project. Pledge Levels There are three main pledge types. The Adventurer pledge get the Core Rewards, which include miniatures and scenery and stretch goals for individual character miniatures. Other stretch goals can be added for an additional amount as shown on their picture. The Champion pledge gets the Core Rewards and all of the stretch goals as well as the New Add-Ons. Finally, the Treasure Hoard includes all of the Core Rewards, stretch goals and the New Add-Ons as well as Add-Ons from previous projects (Multiple GB of files). There are also special early-bird pledges for the Champion and Treasure Hoard at a reduced price. Each pledge level gets its STL Rewards as well as PDF rulebook files for DeepWars and ShadowSea and the Stygian Depths. If you want just to collaborate or have access to the Add-Ons you may consider the Basic level at just $1. These backers get the Rulebook PDFs, so it is a great way to get playing. Any pledge level can be modified with the addition of Add-Ons, shown at the bottom of the page. Simply increase your pledge amount for the add-on you want. Stretch Goals If we are funded past the initial goal, we will unlock Stretch Goals. Some stretch goals may be available for an additional cost for the Adventurer pledge but are all free to Champion and Treasure Hoard backers.
  4. Presenting Triton, part of the Merfolk faction in the game Deep Wars by Antimatter Games. I painted his tail in some of that fancy colour-shifting paint that doesn't photograph at all and the highlighting is a bit rough, but I did a really good job (for me) of filling all his gaps so I'm calling it a win. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  5. Presenting Ironbelly Klegg, a member of the Fortune Hunters faction from the game Deep Wars, and my first ever mini (that I've finished) from Antimatter Games. I'm still quite bad at painting crystals, lenses etc. so he made a pretty terrible choice for my first mini to paint, but I had fun. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  6. The Stygian Depths - Lost Temple of Xibalba, via @Kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/524168246/the-stygian-depths-lost-temple-of-xibalba
  7. So these are a couple of "mantis warriors" which I'm painting up as thri-kreen, the insectoid race from the Dark Sun and Spelljammer D&D settings. They are Reaper's 03552: Klichik, Mantis Warrior (the taller one), sculpted by John Winter, and 03142: Zizzix, Mantis Warrior (the squatter one), sculpted by Michael Brower. Here they are for scale (and unassembled) with Reaper's 03155: Vandora Waverunner, Pirate, sculpted by Bob Ridolfi. Straight out of the package they have a very flat silhouette. Here they are assembled, primed, and washed with thinned-down Burnt Umber. I gently bent some of their limbs forward to ease the flatness a tad. One source said all thri-kreen were golden brown; another said they were earthy shades of red, yellow, and sometimes green. I decided to paint the taller one red and the shorter one yellow. I mixed some dull, opaque colors using Iron Oxide Red and Yellow, each mixed with a greying-down blend of browns and white, and brushed them on thinly. As god is my witness, this thing is not so pink in real life. I painted this same yellow on both of the creatures' bases. Then I washed over them with some thinned-down Burnt Umber. To be continued!
  8. Hello! I've recently started working on a diorama, and a friend of mine urged me to post here. The only thing that is missing from the pictures below is the kelp that will be behind the kraken (on the little pads on the back side of the base). It is some floppy aquarium kelp that I"m currently trying to figure out how to get it to stand up straight. Tips, tricks, C&C are all welcomed. Here is the pre-primed coral wall in varying states of sand coverage. The coral is planned to be very brightly colored. Primed base: You can see the kelp pads in the pic above. Base with Kraken for staging verification: Here is the almost finished diver, who goes in the slot in front of the Kraken. This drab, dirty human looking down at his feet while the kraken looms above is one of my favorite parts, tbh. Cheers! Valk
  9. Finally got the colors right on this one. Wasn't excited by the "thunder" or spell effect, though, it was a real pain to paint.
  10. This is the Siren Maneater from Antimatter Games (DW2022) in resin. I see her as Ursula from the Little Mermaid after she has stolen Ariel's voice. I just love her pose!
  11. One more figure from the Memorial Day paint binge challenge. This is a figure for the Shadowsea miniatures game. I don't know her background story, but judging from her title and appearance I am guessing some kind of magic caster or necromancer.
  12. I started by giving him a base coat of MSP Clockwork Brass, then used various washes and inks I had to give him different colors in random patterns. I had to go back with a light coat of brass to get some of the shine back. I used Tamiya Clears to make the "eyes" really pop out. I also added Metallic Medium (metallic white, basically) to the brass as highlights on some of the edges of the metal. The base is mostly pumice paste, with some Army Painter grass clumps, flock and cork "rocks" to give it some texture. I used more inks and washes to color the pumice, then lightly drybrushed brighter colors over them to give it a little bit more texture. I did the same with the grass clumps - the matte medium from the inks & washes stage gave it some extra strength so that the drybrush stage worked even better. Then I put a heavy coat of gloss sealer over the whole thing (including the base) to help give the impression that it's underwater. I went fast on this guy because I was just having fun (as opposed to trying to make him look really nice), but even so he probably clocked in at 6-8 hours. I should really start timing myself so I know how long these things take.
  13. Continuing my weekend of “paint multi-legged mechs,†I started on the Salvage Mech Construct from DeepWars. I decided I would try to emulate Antimatter’s painting style (without spending too much time on it). I airbrushed him with brass, then started playing with inks and washes. I only have a couple of inks, and they did seem to work better for this purpose. I had to go back over the washes with thinned brass to keep things shiny. He’s pretty close to finished actually. I need to touch up a few spots, maybe incorporate some feedback if I get any (especially appreciated if AntiMatter sees this), then work on his base. Paints used. You can also see the start of his base.
  14. The Deepwars Cephalid Siren from Antimatter Games is exactly how I imagine the 50 Fathoms witches look. A great sculpt and very fun to paint.
  15. Hi all, my adventures in sculpting continue! I am really pleased to present these two sculpts to you. I have been a big fan of Antimatter games' ShadowSea setting for many years so I was ecstatic to have the opportunity to sculpt a few pieces for the sunless kingdom faction (my favorites!). These models posed a significantly different challenge from anything I had done before - lots of equipment and highly detailed, true to the style of the line, and working from very specific concept art. All the detail work was very time consuming, but also rewarding. those little bits add loads of character and each allows me to practice new skills - how crisp can I make that angle? how smooth the transition? how to style the texture? each little bit a project of its own. Here is the first completed: Trog Witch Doctor, Jujazca I really like the ShadowSea trogs, probably the most original interpretation of a lizardfolk type humanoid I have seen. there are several warrior troops available and this was to be the first character. I did my best to blend the wonderful concept art with the existing models so that they would be a nice coherent group. lots of details and doodads made this model a challenge but also a fantastic learning experience. My personal favorite bit is the iron cross belt buckle, almost too small to see in these pics. concept art: https://scontent-b-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/t1/1779690_668188083228190_1905188012_n.jpg and the second, just off the work bench / kitchen table: Clal-Chk Scavenger, Slithack Love these guys! they are the insect-men that I always wished I had, and now I've sculpted one. These critters are enigmatic, wielding alien technology for unknown purposes. This is a model that when I had finished it, I found myself thinking how I wanted to paint it. for me, personally, that is my ultimate goal. I pushed my new found detailing skills as far as I could. Three things stand out to me as particular successes: the face (it turned out exactly as i had hoped), the lock-picks on the strap (pics not shown, very fussy details) and the draped fabric (my first attempt at folds). the crisp geometry of the pack was a pleasant surprise as well. Concept art: https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/t1/1794642_668188073228191_524415439_n.jpg There are four more angles on the AMG facebook page Thanks for looking guys and gals, I would really appreciate any feedback you might have that might help me become a better sculptor. I really do hope you like them, though. On a personal note: I want to extend my deepest thanks to Eric Louchard (proprietor of AMG) for taking a gamble on me for these complex minis (something I had never done). I have been unemployed for 10 months now after moving halfway across the country and the chance to make art to fight off the cabin fever and - feel useful - has been invaluable. Second, my appreciation to reaper for allowing me to share my art here, to my friends on the web, even though it is intended for another company. class act, Reaper, class act. on to the next!
