Here's a simple one for you today. Filling out my Demonic Army, we have a Barlgura, represented by an Ape Demon (77260). He seems a little small, but it works. Painted him up quickly the evening before a game sometime last winter. More Photos Beneath Spoiler: I've got more fiendish things to show you all, but this one is good for today. This mini said Paizo on the bottom and a date from the early 2000's. It reminded me of the Robert E. Howard Conan story "Rogues in the House" and painted him with red in his cloak as sort of an homage.

I see the light at the end of the tunnel! Grinding through the Bones 4 core set, we have reached the last two dozen....and a full dozen of those are kobolds! Soon there will be less than 10 left! Today I did the Ape Attack! subset I chose to go different paths with each of them. These are so big, I think they are more useful as individuals than as a team. After all, there is only so much you can to with three giant apes, one of which that for some reason seems to have joined the Roman legions. And I was not kidding when I said they were giant apes: They are twice the height of a man, and what looks like ten times the mass. #83: The Great White Ape Drybrushed from black with a series of offwhites, ochre, beige and greys, and a couple of skin tones on the nekkid flesh. This one does double duty as an abominable snowman. 40mm base. #84: The Barlgura A barlgura is a D&D chaotic evil demonic creature of the Abyssal plane. Described as semi-intelligent and brutally violent, looking like an eight foot tall blue-skinned Orangutan with wickedly sharp claws. The model is of a much larger Gorilla...Well... close enough. Let's just call him King Louie and leave it at that. "Oobee-doo! A while ago I came to the realization I needed an orangutan in academic robes and mortarboard, and would you believe this isn't something every mini company already does?! Thread title pretty much sums it up. This is Callus the Renegade from Black Orc’s Hundred Kingdoms, sculpted by Jason Wiebe: There is is a lot going on here, from chain, scale, and plate to all the spangly bits and Things on Belts. Tried to add some variety of color where possible. Not sure what actual colors were worn by Roman soldiers, but red is popular among cosplayers according to Google. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t purple at least. Turns out Dark Elf Skin is a pretty good approximation of actual gorilla flesh. It also seems that brown is not a popular color for actual gorilla fur, but whatever. I was unsure just what that thing in his left hand is, so I imagined it as some sort of monkey-headed scepter, and painted it up in Dragon Copper and Antique Gold. Mostly as an excuse to try out some GW verdigris. I probably miffed the placement, but it’s a neat effect. Very much a “nasty old penny” look. Did I mention this guy is big? Howdy, Here is the Ape Demon I did a while back... Kev!

For a while I had been pondering what figure to use for the White Gorilla creature from the Frostgrave rules. Then one day, while looking for something else, I spotted the Ape Demon figure from the Bones II Lesser Demons set, and I thought, "Why not?" Maybe the White Gorillas of Frostgrave are the descendants of some bizarre experiment of a misguided wizard long ago who thought it would be a good idea to cross a bat with a gorilla. (Maybe so he could quickly run errands for him through the crowded city. That's why he has the one big ear; (so he can hear his master call him home), and the big hands so he can carry all the grocery shopping!) Over the centuries the wings have become flightless, but they still make the creature look fearsome. :) I really like how he turned out. Just some simple dry brushed Ape Demons. Metal washers used as the bases with a little sand glued to them, painted and dry brushed as well.

Attempting to adopt Buglips' Zen of Bones approach. I only removed the most offensive mold lines. I intended this to be for the KruleBear cub's 3rd Birthday. I was essentially done by the date, but procrastinated the final details for a couple months. This was the first mini I used aggressive Zenithal priming on and it saved me a lot of time. This is another Bones miniature designed by Jason Wiebe — 80001: Ape-X. I think that a gorilla's skin would tend to be blacker than this, but that made it very monochromatic, so I browned it up a bit. And here it is again, photographed from every angle, just in case you really need to know what it would look like from a rear three-quarter view.

I'm trying to get more monsters available for the random encounters in Frostgrave. First off is a Frost Giant, converted from the Pathfinder Battles: Dungeons Deep Frost Giant. She wasn't directly intended for Frostgrave, I was going to convert her to match the Frost Giant Jarl from "Giants Revisited"...then realized I misremembered the art, and she already WAS based off that piece. So she got a heavy infantry makeover:

I feel like he isn't very interesting. Any suggestions on how I could add interest for next time?

I am painting up my bones Ape-X based on inspiration from this picture http://www.deviantart.com/art/White-Gorilla-270784101 and I want to try NMM on him as well. I do have the L2PK3 on NMM, but I have only read the instructions. Since there is only a little metal on this figure, I can take my time to get it right. So far I have only done base coats. The armor hand will be a red metal and the gun a blue metal and the other metal parts chrome. Depending on how this goes, I might do OSL on the cyber eye as well.

This is one funky monkey. My first and natural instinct was to paint him with a standard black leather jacket, but I thought I'd give him a bit of a James Dean look with the red jacket and jeans. The rest really just fell together nicely. Big risk with this guy was the shades - I hummed and hahhed about doing black shades or mirror shades, but my better half convinced me that I should be trying to grow my skills and I went for it. I wouldn't say it came out exactly perfect, or that it was necessarily the right mini to do it on, but I'm happy with it.

Last one done for the weekend! Yes, that is a banana in his pocket. He's probably still happy to see you, though. I'm happy with how all the colours turned out on him, but he's leaning slightly forward on his base so it's a bit tricky to get a good photo angle.
