Hey folks! Last month I worked on a Bones Altar of Evil (77139) and was surprised to find that the back was hollow. (Wip here) As shown in the wip, I used apoxie sculpt with the instant mold to make a 'back side' for the figure. Last night I was experimenting with the 50% Apoxie Sculpt / Green Stuff mix that Tail spinner talks about in the pinned putty post, and found that this mixture works very well with the instant mold. It goes into the mold well, holds the details, separates easily, and is easily sandable, and the flash was easy to remove with an X-Acto knife. It is not as brittle as the pure apoxie sculpt, and not as flexible as straight Green Stuff is supposed to be. It seems to be the best of both worlds for this type of putty use. So the next time you need to replicate something with Instant Mold, I highly recommend giving this mix a try! George

So here is my Altar of Evil, finished up. Nothing fancy after the filling in of the hollow side. I wanted to do the skulls in a 'Cared for' Copper color, which is why there is no verdigris on them.... I mean really, what Evil Priest is not going to have an acolyte around to polish stuff? I also wanted them to appear as if they had candles in them, so I filled the eye sockets and noses with Scale 75 Inktensity Yellow, and rimmed them with a touch of watered down Scale 75 Aldebaran Red. So my Reaper order came in yesterday, and with it my Altar of Evil. I was very surprised to learn that the 'back' of the altar is the hollow part, not the bottom... I decided to make another long wall and attach it so that it can stand in the middle of a room and not look odd... So I got out the Instantmold, and Apoxie Sculpt My daughter the paint minion wanted to see the Instantmold in action, so she ended up doing all the work! We heated the instant mold in hot water, mushed it up, made a pancake, and then she pushed the long side into the mushy instantmold with firm pressure all around. When we judged the instantmold to have set, we carefully peeled it of the altar. Then she mixed up the Apoxie Sculpt and pushed it into the mold firmly. We looked for air pockets through the mold, and did not see any, so we left it to the side of my painting area to cure overnight. We made too much apoxie, so I used it to half fill the alter. I put it in a clamp to get it square and left that overnight to cure as well. So this evening, she popped it out and we looked at what she had done. The details came out very nicely, but unfortunately, when she had pushed the alter into the mold, she did not push down on the inside part of the hollow... Since Bones material is flexible, the piece had bowed inward, leaving the removed piece to be bowed inwards. Not sure if you can see the bow in the pics... I am impressed with the level of detail the instantmold captures.... So we chalked it up to a learning process, and re heated the Instantmold and did a new impression. Then filled that with Apoxie Sculpt. Comments and thoughts welcome! George
