https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/806316071/batman-gotham-city-chronicles-season-2 (Note: this is a follow up to the recently delivered Batman Gotham City Chronicles which is based on their Conan game engine, and lets you pick up the existing content if you didn't get it before, plus the new season 2 content) Batman™: Gotham City Chronicles is a mission-based miniatures board game where 2 to 4 players control the Dark Knight and his allies in their never-ending battle against crime through an asymmetrical and open game system. Each game involves an action-packed fight where two sides face off. One of the players assumes the role of the Villain and controls the most notorious criminals of Gotham City. The remaining players take control of the Heroes, who must work together as a team to foil the Villain’s plots. Each side takes turns, pitting their strategies against each other in order to achieve their objectives. [NOTE the core box image above is taken from the first KS so the 'stretch' tags are irrelevant, I've done so as the current KS doesn't show the contents as fully] Batman™: Gotham City Chronicles Season 2’s primary focus is Versus mode. Adventure mode racked up 42 missions in season 1, is still supported with 9 NEW missions in season 2. And, some of the new season 2 characters can also be used in S1 core box adventure mode missions. Finally, all season 2 characters come with their own tile, opening up a wider Versus mode selection pool for the 10 NEW versus mode missions.

My 5 1/2 yo son is super into Batman. I had set up a Pathfinder game for the grownups, but only filled 2/4 seats. My son has shown a little and growing interest in tabletop gaming. So I made some stats for Batman as a Pathfinder character and used his LEGO Batman on the battle grid. Here are how it came out: attributes were rolled. Race Human Class Ranger (Urban) lvl 1 Str 16 Dex 19 (+2 human) Con 14 Int 13 Wis 14 Cha 8 Favored Class Ranger +1 HP Trait: Rich Parents Trait: Deft Dodger (+1 Reflex) Favored Enemy Humanoid (human) Feat - Improved Unarmed Strike Feat Human - Exotic Weapon Prof - Shuriken Skills - don’t remember exactly, sheet isn’t in front of me: Acrobatics, Craft (alchemy), Disable Device, knowledge (local), perception, Survival, Stealth Gear- I took some liberties here for flavor: Mwk Studded Leather, Batarangs(shuriken shaped like a bat available in a lethal or non lethal variety), smoke bombs (combine thunderstone and smoke stick in one thrown item same price as both combined), Mwk thieves tools, sap, spiked gauntlets x 2 (his sharp things sticking out of his arms), Grapnel: (Light Crossbow + 50ft silk rope + Mwk grappling hook + 100gp to account for the “gnomish winch”) I would have loved to make it a hand crossbow, but didn’t want to waste two feats on exotics. I just tacked on cost to the various gear to use up the gold from rich parents and still leave him with a good kit. He made level two and I chose an alt. Option for weapon style: thrown weapon. That gave him bonus feat of Precise Shot without needing Point Blank Shot, but I plan on adding it later. Let me know what you think. My son didn’t have the attention span to stay at the table for long: his cousins were in the pool, so he ended up there. My friend always plays the Cleric, but he ran Batman as a second character and had a blast with it.

Monolith Games "Batman: Gotham City Chronicles" came in recently and I decided I'd go ahead and actually try to paint all the minis. Looking at the boxes can be daunting though so I'm breaking it down by mission to make it a less daunting task. For each mission, I'm doing the main villains and one hero for each player, so the game is at least playable with a set of painted minis. The minions will have to wait until my free time matches up with the not raining time so I can spray prime a bunch at once. Did I mention it won't stop raining on my time off? In general, I'm trying to get as accurate as I can with the paints and paining skill I have to the Batman: The Animated Series version of the characters. That is the version I love the best so that's where most of my inspiration comes from. The first mission, "To Sink a City", pits Bane vs our heroes. From the hero selection, I grabbed "standard" Batman (because, of course), "standard" Catwoman and The Red Hood (Jason Todd...spoiler?). I did these a week or so ago and I put gloss finish on them without thinking of taking pictures first, so sorry about the glare. I do plan on giving them a matte finish when I'm done with all the minis. Group picture! Batman! I used a lot of Nightmare Black since it has a blue tint. Breonne Blue quickly became my go to blue for team Batman and Rainy Grey makes a good suit color. The Red Hood (Jason Todd) Catwoman (Classic). I'm not super happy with how the eyes turned out but it looks good enough on a table so... Bane and juiced up Bane.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/806316071/batmantm-gotham-city-chronicles/comments KS only (not coming to retail as Monolith made a loss on the retail version of their Conan game) optional buys plus lots of unlocked stretch goals game roughly based on the fairly well recived Conan game engine, they did a decent job with the Conan minis too so if your into batman and have the (significant) buy in it's probably a wise pick.

Here are two shots of a recently painted Batman from Knight Models. The model was a pain to put together and are a bit thin for my liking. Not sure they will stand up to lots of playing. This was a very simple paint to get me out of a bit of a painting lull after doing some gladiators. I have the Joker and some henchmen to do for this and then I may try out the rules. Not sure I will buy a lot more although the Hulk model is very nice and so is the Hulk Buster Iron Man. It's a shame they are so damn expensive. As always comments welcome.

I was totally impressed by the Impudent Mortal Kickstarter, but seeing as the buildings on offer didn't appeal as much as older stock they had I ordered directly (and boy was it FAST). Because I wanted to get an idea of what I was doing before I tried building my fancy new things, I took advantage of a FLGS gift card to buy a Knight Models SWAT truck for the Batman game. Here are some product pics behind the spoiler The truck/van is mostly done except for touch-ups and sealing... but I'll still be posting process pics that I took along the way. I mistakenly thought it would be faster than a miniature (and I guess it was at my current pace)... but not really. The other ones I'll be posting as I go (I'm planning on using fancy Japanese paper offcuts as wallpaper, so it'll probably be slow).

Just finished up Batman while watching all three Back to the Future movies. I'm really happy with the cape. I used the RMS Martial Blues triad, then glazed it with thinned Army Painter blue ink. I'm really enjoying how Army Painter's coloured inks are working as glazes when thinned, I used a purple glaze on the Gollum that I'm working on now which really helped the model. Also, I should really add a shot of the awesome Iron Halo base insert I used for this figure. Made here in New Zealand! Painted up really nicely. Might have something new to show off in a day or two if work doesn't keep me too busy, in the meantime I'm off to buy some comics and a burrito.

Some months ago I was tooling around on the Center for Disease Control website (as I'm wont to do, because the NSA doesn't have enough dirt on me already) and I got inspired to write a blog post about how Batman probably has rabies, statistically speaking. This accusation against Batman was pretty successful, and sparked some good conversations. So naturally, I did it again, explaining why Dracula has syphilis, which is a pretty well known allegory, since Bram Stoker showed several signs of the disease before he died. Last week I posted about how Catwoman has Toxoplasmosis, a parasite that gets transmitted from cats to human. And now...I'm stumped. I've been beating my brain for other heroes, fiction characters, or movie protagonists, and all I can come up with are psychological ailments. Which I view as a cheap shot, because everyone has something wrong in the head. Anyway, any suggestions would be helpful. You can read the Catwoman thing below, which also has links to Batman and Dracula. Figured I'd ask the most knowledgeable nerds I know. Thanks all! (P.S. if we're not allowed to post article links, I'll totally remove it.) http://masksofmonsters.wordpress.com/2014/11/08/catwoman-has-toxoplasmosis/

So I finally had some free time today once I finished all my podcast duties. Hopefully this thread will continue for a while as I have to paint the 4 player characters and anything that happens to come between us and our goal. A majority of the miniatures will be from the original bones kickstarter, but some will be from other companies. First up is Garruk the half orc ranger of the party. I hadn't decided to do a WIP until I had already started working on some of the highlights. So he is a bit further along because of this. I'm happy overall with the skin tone. I think I may need to tone the leathered areas down and darken them up. Next up is Jonas the Oracle. Colors are mostly blocked in. The sections of blue have been highlighted up from blue ink to sapphire blue. I like the way the blue is looking so far and will be brightened up a bit more. Let me know what you guys think so far. C&C always welcome. If you want to check out the podcast you can find it Here. BONUS ROUND! I figured while I was posting I would put these pics up. These are from the Knights Models Arkham City line. Both need some finishing touches but they are definitely moving in the right direction (Which is off my paint table!).

Hm. So apparently, tomorrow is Batman Day, marking 75 years since his first appearance in Detective Comics in 1939. Participating comic shops will have giveaways and promotions. Weirdly enough, I'll be there... but only because "Conan Vs. Groo" is due out tomorrow...
