  1. REAPER BONES WEREBEAR SKU 77446. Part of my Horde of the North Project. WIP https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79398-horde-of-the-north-glitterwolf-paints-barbarians-and-mammoths/page/11/#comments *************************** The Bearclan is one of the mightiest tribes of the North. Fierce warriors, Bearkin and Werebears, who will be able to stop them? **************************
  2. Yup another project, as if I didn't have enough on my hands. This will take a while, but I will start again. A few decades ago ( before I roamed this Forum) I created a Barbarian Army with Animal allies. I sold it and all I have left are these tiny pics that show only part of it. Also, this was decades ago so I didn't paint as well as I do today ( or at least I think so) Here are the old pics as appetizers, I will soon start the new army. Enjoy!
  3. I grabbed this bear from the most recent Box of Goodwill, and painted it almost right away. It's kinda small by today's standards, it was made in 1984. I've always been a bit intimidated by painting animals; for some reason I got it set in my mind that it's hard to actually make them look GOOD. Sure, just paint the fur brown and it's done, right? Well, no there's a bit more to it than that, and it was that little bit more that I always got hung up on. Well, I'm glad I finally managed to get over it; I pulled up some pictures of bears on my computer and just did the best I could. The reason I mention this is because I'm sure someone else is going through the same thing. Please just go ahead and try the thing, no one is going to come beat you up if it's not 'right'. Anyway, I hope you like it.
  4. Hello All, Here is a 77446 Dark Heaven Bones "Werebear" I completed today. Thank you for looking.
  5. Hello All, Here is a Dark Heaven Bones 77353 "Ursula, Dwarven Bear Rider" miniature I completed a few days ago. Thank you for looking.
  6. A quick and easy paintjob! Still enjoyed it! 😄
  7. Bit of wet blending and drybrushing, trying to work of a photo reference to get colours right rather than just 'brown'. .
  8. A pair of Bones bears (or the bear Bones, if you like) I tried to paint these from pictures of real-life grizzly bears. Every time I paint an animal it ends up with a chaotic riot of washes and highlights in different colours until it looks enough like the source images to satisfy me. I doubt if I could paint another one and get the same colour! The coat of the Dire bear is much coarser, which really shows in the photo (like the fine moulding line on the Cave Bear's face) but is less bothersome in more natural light. I painted these as companions to my Stone Giant tribe, and you can see the frankly ridiculous diorama I built over here... Stone Giant Tribe
  9. It's been a while since I've painted a Reaper miniature, so I thought I would post my latest creation here. I had a lot of fun painting this mini - blue is one of my favorite colors to blend with, and I enjoy painting fun hair, like her braid in the back. TMM was used on the metal.
  10. 44082 Cave Bear (#624) The cave bear lived from the Pleistocene era (That's the Ice Ages to us normal folks) which lasted from 2.580.000 years ago to about 11.700 years ago. However, it seems to have gone extinct about 24.000 years ago. Which certainly is contemporary with modern humans. Them cave bears must have been delicious. And the shaggy furs kept us warm in those cold, cold caves. 60x35mm base. Sculpted by Jason Wiebe. Great Beasts indeed! From the Lost Valley expansion Bones 4 kickstarter, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Made in Bones Black PVC available from reapermini.com These models were completed the 2nd of May.
  11. Stupid ancient pre-SD card camera flash is above and BEHIND the lens, so keeps casting shadows. But I'm posting this anyway. So there. :P Anyway, TF also has its "Harvest of War" KS of corpse miniatures (no bears or gipsies), so I figure I'd catch up on some TF pics I should be taking...!
  12. Howdy, For International Mini Painting Month I'm bearly getting started... Grrrrr, Kev!
  13. Here is my Owlbear promo from Bones Black. It was a lot of fun to paint! As an aside, does anyone know if this can still be purchased through Reaper? I can't find it on the site anymore... :(
  14. I've been trying to do a bit of painting every day, since RCon is coming up so soon. I have a problem with long-term projects, though, so I need to occasionally work on something quick and sweet in between. Sometimes I need to finish something to keep me motivated, you know? Tonight's lucky candidate was this bear, whom I love. His name is Randall and he likes standing in fields. Anyhow, enjoy!
  15. I painted the Bones Black, Bones, and Wizkids owlbears as Great Horned Owls. This is the Bones Black owlbear. Not sure why it isn't in the store, even under the special edition section. I used the number it was assigned my order form. Anyway, it is a pretty cool model! I have several of them so will be able to paint them as different types of owls. I definitely need a Hedwig owlbear!
  16. Howdy, So far, so good... Kev!
  17. Howdy, It's not my place to question what bear does or does not do in the woods... Kev! P.s. But it DOES make a sound, though...
  18. This is the Bones Dire Bear Sku 77494. I painted him for my Horde of the North project WIP: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79398-horde-of-the-north-glitterwolf-paints-barbarians-and-mammoths/
  19. Here's another recent paint. It still goes along with the Reign of Winter AP theme, though I don't know if the Adventure Path has a Polar Bear or not. This figure represents an example of "It looked better in my head." I tried following some pictures of polar bears on the web: It seems some are very yellowed (not necessarily in the shadows), and some are very white. So, I started with a base of 50/50 Golden Blonde/Linen White, and successively lightened it up to white, and left the darker color in the shadows. I thought the fur quality on this BONES sculpt is very good, so it lent itself well to a mix of drybrushing and picking out individual strands with the brush. I tried something different for the snow on the base, just some puddles of white glue that I then painted with Ghost White and Pure White. C&C Welcomed.
  20. So, I'm getting close to finishing up this Project. Also, my olde thread for this was from before the Great PhotoBucket Fiasco. So I'm redoing this thread using my new Imgur account! Behold my Bad Paint Jobs and Despair!! Or Not;) First up the Ani-Pals! Dog I Dog III Dog IV Bare the Bear Companion Dawg the Ranger, "Leader" of the Ani-Pals! Sting the Pixie Rogue! Salle Goblin Sorceress! Kildrick the Dwarven Cleric! Gonna post the rest in the next post so I don't hit Image Max Limits. GF
  21. For my Broken Gods D&D game, I've painted up all the figures for my group and am now getting around to painting up their mounts and animal companions. First off we have Bagheera, the Panther based off artwork in the spoiler. Bagheera is the animal companion of the party's monk/ranger and normally it is a standard medium-sized panther that he can use to fight along side him, but the panther can grow into this large mount when needed. Next is the Golden Lion, the mount of the party's bard, based on the artwork below: Next is the Nightmare for the party's warlock, based on the artwork below: I painted up the standard medium sized panther to use when it is needed. The monk/ranger also gained a (perhaps) temporary follower in "Jim the Brown Bear" which I also decided to paint up for this adventure and future adventures as a companion or just standard bear. All of these are painted up tabletop to tabletop+ standards. I didn't want to put too much work into them as they are just meant to be on the tabletop and not to be put into any contests. Larger panther and the lion are the lioness and lion from Bones 3. The smaller panther and the brown bear are bones animal companions. The Nightmare is from one of Tre's kickstarters. It has a barbarian that goes on the saddles, which of course I omitted here and I'll either toss the barbarian in the BOGW or put him in the melt bin at ReaperCon now that he's not really needed and I covered the hole in the saddle where he would normally attach. There's one missing mount, a silver and black fox that I may also paint up for the 4th member of the group. She paints minis too, so I'm thinking I'll give her a wolf figure that looks very foxlike to have her do it herself especially since I have so many other projects I need to finish up on this month. Anyhow, C&C are welcomed and appreciated! EDIT!! Adding more pics of the figures in more close-up shots for each one.
  22. Today, I'm not feeling working on my main ReaperCon project for the diorama so I figured to stay productive and still do something I'll go ahead and start a WIP thread for some tabletop to tabletop+ painted figures of mounts and/or animal companions for the characters in my D&D game. First off I'm doing these three bones figures: animal companion brown bear (Jim), animal companion black panther (Alex), and Phantasmal blue panther mount (Bagheera). These are for the monk/ranger character in my D&D 'Broken Gods' game. I will use some green stuff to even out and blend into the bones broccoli bases, the bigger panther will get a green stuff made saddle and harness. After I'm done with these three: I will paint up a golden lion (the companion to the panther figure from bones 3 I believe) Find a fox figure big enough to be a mount - will need to be about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. Acquire a nightmare figure for a mount or modify a horse or unicorn
  23. This is the second time I've painted her (the first was gifted out to a coworker). After I finished her I realized the Maxwell House color scheme of orange and blue fit the Chicago Bears as well.
  24. These are a couple of the animal companion sets that I painted for one of my players (minus the spider which I have not finished yet). I didn't want to paint the cat like a plain panther and I decided to use an ocelot as inspiration. My favorite is the little wolverine guy even though the photos make the river rocks look like pastel M&M's lol. My usual background got ruined so I have to make do until I get a new one printed or buy a fancy one. The bear looks better in hand and I used blacks and browns in his fur so he doesn't look so flat as he does in the photos. I am not happy with the fake snow and how it turned out. It looked really good when I put it on but not so good once the glue dried. I guess next time I will try baking soda and see how that works out. These are for gaming though so baking soda wouldn't have been the best choice probably. Anyway, here they are! C&C welcome.
  25. Had a little paint sesh with the elder digit today. Can you guess which I did and which was the ten year old's?
