Here is all that I finished in March - one undead archer - the bowman from Bones 3 undying heros. Paining a giant took the rest of my time... In any case, he was kind of a quick diversion, just so I could get the satisfaction of a finished mini - always can use more undead archers! His

Goblins! So awhile back I was horrified to discover that some old un-finished minis had sprouted a strange orange mold. I gave them a deep clean and seemed to have solved the issue (spoiler: I did not and it's affecting nearly all my minis... but that's a problem for another time). As a reward for enduring the cleaning, these goblins deserved to finally get painted. Goblin Command (77349) First up are these two baddies from one of the Bones 2 expansion sets. These guys, being earlier bones, are a bit on the rough side, and definitely out-of-scale with the others. But that does help them stand out a bit. More Photos Below the Spoiler: Goblin Warriors (77444) Next up, we have our "heavy hitters" from Bones 3. I like these sculpts a lot better. There's a uniformity in the face structure, while still having individuality between models. More Photos Below Spoiler: Goblin Skirmishers (77445) The final batch of wimpier goblins from Bones 3. These guys are the mookiest of mooks. Poorly armed, and poorly armored. These are the guys that get sent in first to soak up some arrows. More Photos Below Spoiler: It's nice to finally have some painted goblins. Though my bag full of 50+ more unpainted goblins still taunts me. I have plans to paint them in a few different shades from the yellow-green used here, to a fleshy yellow-tan, to a pale fleshy-grey. Hopefully that'll break up the duplicates and add some variety. But that's a future project. After painting all these guys up I am tempted to finish the set with the Goblin Honor Guard. They're the only ones I don't have. I can't see myself getting much use out of them, as they're a bit more situational or decorative than practical. But my completionist brain says I need them. Reaper has so many incredible and different goblin sculpts. Which ones are your favorites?

And a third NPC - his day job is boatswain, so I wanted the armor to not be full plate.... he's currently helping the party do a fetch quest for the captain. I'm pretty satisfied with what I got out for what I put in - but I do notice I seem to have forgotten his eyebrows!

Now that I've finished the Frost Giants I'm moving onto something a bit warmer, Fire Giants. Currently I've boiled, primed, and base coated skin on all 5. Several will probably need an additional skin coat but so far so good. Pictures in spoiler.

From Bones 3: Gug "It was a paw, fully two feet and a half across, and equipped with formidable talons. After it came another paw, and after that a great black-furred arm to which both of the paws were attached by short forearms. Then two pink eyes shone, and the head of the awakened gug sentry, large as a barrel, wabbled into view. The eyes jutted two inches from each side, shaded by bony protuberances overgrown with coarse hairs. But the head was chiefly terrible because of the mouth. That mouth had great yellow fangs and ran from the top to the bottom of the head, opening vertically instead of horizontally." H.P.Lovecraft, The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath Ahoy, my dream enemy! From Bones 3, the Werearmadillo Obviously, lycanthropy has spread too far...and this is a reminder that Reaper are from Texas, where armadillos are native and as I understand it, seen as pests. I would really like to know how the sales figures for this model compares to other lycanthropes. 77498 Werearmadillo from the Bones 3 Stoneskull expansion Reaper Miniatures 2016 Sculpted by James Van Schaik Classic Bones 50mm base

I have a series of vignette's I'm planning that all feature ogres in amusing scenes with townsfolk. The first of this series is here. With this one I imagined the young milk maid is taking her boyfriend home to meet the parents for the first time. The boyfriend, wanting to put on a good first impression has worn his best striped collar and matching belt, as well as brought his best skulls. He's a bit nervous so she's trying to reassure him. "Don't worry... Mom is going to love you." She doesn't say anything about dad, though... Any critique and criticism is always welcome.

The Left Hand of Darkness here is from the Bones 3 Stoneskull expansion. I painted this one at the same time as the Bones 4 female devil, as they make a fine pair. Speaking of fine pairs, you will need to click the links to see, as the titilation offered by a shapely two inch piece of plastic might be harmful to minors. Full Frontal More Full Frontal Even More Full Frontal The Left The Other Left A slight Angela from Spawn vibe going here. Not sure what about this mini that makes me think of that character. 77496 Eilluvasheth, Succubus Queen Bones 3 Stoneskull Expansion, 2017 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Bobby Jackson Made in Bonesium PVC 32mm base available from reapermini.com

Greetings! I recently bought some Greenstuffworld colourshift paints & eagerly wanting to try them out, I searched through my (huge) Bones backlog for a suitably metallic mini. I grabbed the fantastically ominious Iron Golem from the Bones 4 Stoneskull Expansion & got to work. The blue areas are the colourshift paint, all the other areas are standard paints. I'm really happy with how it turned out. It's not as easy to see the effect on these pics as it is with your own eyes but you can make it out. There's no shading or highlighting on these areas apart from some silver to pick out the rivets & sharp edges on the arm plates. Thanks for looking!

77451 77153 77449 77450 Thief : Blue Ink base + black ink to show details (least happy) Cleric : angelic ghost or spiritual weapon spell. Yellow ink + TMM Ranger: painted by minispawn. ill take it. Makes a great ghost Wizard: nulin Oil + higlights of green ink (fav) Fighter: I only painted the base. (represents an invisible PC pretty well.) I should talk to @Doug Sundseth about this again, since he is teaching a class on it, probably today. Not sure im happy with the set.

Per Izzy, If you picked up either of the Art Books in the Bones III and IV kick-starters and would like to get them autographed, be sure to bring them with you to ReaperCon. Izzy will be signing them when time allows.

The Series continues with the merriest mini of the lot, the Bones 3 Fire Giant Jailor, joining the Joten Horde of Thrym! Now, after sitting on my desk since pulling him from his plastic bag and dry fitting him together, I've been considering what to do with him. The first thing was the weird shaped integral base ... that needed to be fixed. So I dug around for a base to place his base on and settled for one of the large rounds from the same Bones kickstarter. Now, how best to expand upon the stone work of the integral base or was I going to have to dump it altogether and just use the giant. Well, I decided that I liked it a lot but the strange shape was a pain so I cut back the piece to the straight edges along one side. Then using some architectural samples I have a ton of, I proceeded to make new tiles and intentionally break them. They are 1/8" thick (3.2mm) and 2" x 2" in size. After cutting them into squares, breaking them into bits is easy. The rest was just a matter of doing tile work and gluing them in place. I grouted the piece with some Loctite Craft Glue. It's heavy duty and fills in nicely ... see below. After a little sanding to remove the excess glue and roughing the edges, I used a hobby blade and carving tool to clean and define some of the lines in the integral base to better match the new tiles. I also flipped one of the cut away segments from the front for the edge on the left side of the piece (near the top of the pic). Once that was dried and cleaned, I cleaned and glued the giant together and added him to the base. I have to do a little filling of gaps and I did glue the chain down to the tiles so it lays across the ground as if it is landing there. I just have to improve the pin for the dagger on his back belt and settle the keg on the hook off his belt. Then I can coat and prime him and begin his paint job. I'll stick to my Fire Giant Skin Triad ... As used with the Dungeons & Dragons Fire Giant I did last year. Of course, the Jailor of the Fire Giants won't be nearly as pristine as one of their Elite Guards, so you can expect a lot of grunge and prolly some soot. As always, Enjoy and Stay Tuned.

I didnt do too much detail on these guys. I was mostly just using up paint that I had mixed for my goblins. Im not entirely a fan of these guys but I figured Id paint them up anyone for a Tundra themed campaign Im working on.

Mal'adrakar, Bones III... Probably a long one.
ThePolo posted a topic in Works in Progress: Painting
So, I freaked out when I saw the green of Mal'adrakar... what... two years ago? I haven't been paining in several years for a few different reasons. For the last several years things have been up in the air, and I need to be in a certain 'head space' to calm down and put brush to paint for any considerable amount of time. I'm super glad that I've gotten the painting bug back in time to paint this one up. I did a LONG WIP post of Kyra and Lavarath many years ago, and I was hoping to followup with something similar. That one was a long weekend when I had the flu... This one I'm recovering from surgery, so I might be able to get some progress done over the next few weeks? I mean, it's a little bigger, so maybe a little progress? I think that base on Lavarath is a little deceiving... Lets try this: Okay... I'll admit it. I feel out of my depth here. This is one INTIMIDATING 'miniature'. It's bigger than anything I've ever painted... except for my garage, but that didn't have a lot of details. I know how I want to go... old school 'Tiamat' all the way... 5 heads, 5 colors... I really want to do some airbrushing on it, but I'm afraid to screw it up. My first step is priming it, and I'll be using colored primers.... I've got them, so why not, right? I primed the body in red, then test fit the heads and wings. I threw in the 6-sider for scale again because OMG this thing is HUGE. Now, I've been looking at pictures of Tiamat since I was a kid... yes, I watched the damn cartoon, and yes I'm THAT old. While looking for photo references my eye kept going back to this image: I especially liked the fade from black, to red, and out to the various heads. I wanted to recreate that! I decided to start early, and go for that 'fade' from the get go... with more colored primer. So, I wrapped up my primed miniature to minimize splatter and overspray, and went to town Then, I sprayed the heads... one green, one blue, one black... and the last one, I just washed with GM 'Nuln Oil'. And, that's roughly a weekends work. With drying time, multiple pieces and coats, and all the damn yard-work that got in the way, I think that I made some decent progress! I'll update this thread as I make more progress. This is going to be a LONG one, ya'll!- 21 replies

Peter Paul Rubens 1577-1640 Rubens's depiction of males is equally stylized, replete with meaning, and quite the opposite of his female subjects. His male nudes represent highly athletic and large mythical or biblical men. Unlike his female nudes, most of his male nudes are depicted partially nude, with sashes, armour, or shadows shielding them from being completely unclothed. These men are twisting, reaching, bending, and grasping: all of which portrays his male subjects engaged in a great deal of physical, sometimes aggressive, action. I added a twist, lean, and adjusted his neck. WIP

This past week I painted the Behir figure from the Bones 3 "Stoneskull" Expansion, as I work my way through the remaining figures I haven't painted yet from that set while waiting for the arrival of Bones 4. For the painting article on my blog, see: Behir Article

And here is a fire giant I finished recently. I was much happier with him, but the photos reveal some sloppiness! In hand, he's great for the table and I feel satisfied. I'm currently working on a third, so let's see how that goes!
