  1. Brains for the poor, have ye any to spare ?
  2. I believe I won this in an RCL raffle. Primed with brush on primer and then painted with army painted speed paint (palid bone) There was some patches where the contrast paint pulled away the primer, returning it to grey. i just added new layers of both. this really was painting in easy mode until I decided to add snow and ice to brace do I could enter it as seasonal figure for RCL this is while I wait for stone colors to dry before adding snow mix bother image upload issues… trying other things - nope
  3. I purchased a set of Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0. My brother suggested the paints and I watched a few videos which sparked my interest. The first few pictures are the end result. The total amount of time spent was under 2 hours (not counting super glue assembly). @Glitterwolf (mentioned interest in the paints). Finished product (Oops, didn't take a picture of the other side). Initial lessons/impressions: I love the flow of the paints. With a steady hand, the paint will go where you want it to go. I have the urge to paint a few larger items with these paints (hopefully this weekend). Less is more. I used 5 drops of Darkwood Brown and had an excessive amount left. So I slathered several other miniatures with it and still had leftover. Colors in the palette wells were confusing. Pallid Bone looked brown. Zealot Yellow looked red. I had a few other colors to see what I would use on the posts and shark. I have dipped into the wrong well a couple of times, ha. Since the paints stay wet longer, sometimes painting over the area will reactive the paint.
  4. Finally painted this up - I had plans to copy others and add basing material/foliage, but I was so satisfied with how it looked I stopped.
  5. Here is another member of the 77216 Animal Companions pack: the wolf, painted black/brown and with glowing red eyes to look like a vicious worg. (Note that the original Bones version of 77216 has been discontinued and rereleased as the Dungeon Dwellers / Bones USA pack 07040, so I've included both tags for this post.) I gave this figure a quick paint job (with its original base intact) a few weeks ago, right before I ran a Pathfinder Society scenario at the local library. The adventure included a worg as an optional fight ("Just give me a halfling or gnome to eat and I'll let you pass," he says. So of course you fight him!) But the rest of the adventure took 4 hours and I cut the worg encounter altogether. So over this past week, I spent more time reworking the base and cleaning up the layering on the wolf. I used a photo of a real gray wolf with black and brown fur as my inspiration. As with the cougar figure (also part of 77216 / 07040) that I painted -- here's the link to that forum post -- I cut away part of the base between the front and back legs so I could make it look like the wolf was advancing down a rough slope with gaps between the rocks. I used Aves Apoxie Sculpt to make the extra rock bits. I painted the rocks with warm and cool grays, greens, purples, and browns to give them a lot of subtle color. To add to the forbidding atmosphere, I added some yellow "winter tuft" grass and some dried oregano leaves. Enjoy! Derek
  6. Alahazra the Pathfinder Oracle in bones (SKU 89022). Probable NPC in an upcoming Savage Pathfinder campaign.
  7. Got all 15 of these finished at the same time so they’d be nice and cohesive. These are from the Bones 1 KS. 😅
  8. I finally reached the end of Bones V core set, down to the last 11 figures at the beginning of the month. but how to end it? The other core sets I finished ended with a diorama (usually with Mr. Bones. They were mostly random adventuring types, and so this came to mind. standing around a gaming table with some books and dice, and inviting the viewer to join the game. I picked out (of the 11) that ones I thought fit best. (picture to be added) I wanted to give them a unified color scheme - although perhaps more variety would have worked as well. for colors I went to my fallback, favorite shades. Ultramarine and Burnt Umber. some of the items on the table work better than others, each of the three has a character sheet in front of them. I thought of adding books, pencils or dice to their hands, but was running out of time to get it done for September. Other ideas - the box for bones 5 on the floor, or a cell phone on the table. and like adding things to hands it might have been done if I had thought of it earlier. I am happy with the result I got with such a short tiimeline. (sept 14-29) there is no good angle to see this sword, but I am proud of it. So I’m adding a picture of the fighter before he was pinned & glued, or gems finished. There were ~11 skulls that I carved off, some I replaced with gems. Did he really need 3 skulls on each arm Mr/Mrs Sculptor???
  9. Painted this fellow up... maybe not as refined as he deserves... need to make him a base definitely... wings need refinement... but he meets my current painting goals and is ready to face a party as enemy/quest giver/ ally.... Body contour shading seems hard to take good photos of....
  10. Whipped up my hobgoblins so that I could have them all painted up alongside the hobgoblin wizard I did years ago. I’ll sell the two Bones duplicates eventually.
  11. My current group project, three down just one to go that I had primed. These are taking longer than I thought but at least I'll get painting huge creatures out of my system for awhile, ....at least I hope, lol.

  14. I doubled down on the Bones 1 KS core set and painted these two up at the same time. One I will keep, the other I will sell. Moving some Bones 1 figures off the shelf of shame feels great.

  22. I challenged myself to paint more of the larger (bigger than human) sized figures this year. This was one I thought came out relatively well. The pig gives you a sense of how large he really is.
