  1. After declaration of completion in your WIP thread, you have 2 hours to submit your official entry photos in this thread (this is to allow time for setting up of photo taking area). Up to 5 pictures per entry may be submitted. This thread will be open for submission of completed entries until midnight CST on August 1st 2018. Questions? Ask them here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/75387-maal-drakar-7-day-goblin-contest-launch-date For the index of WIP and Show-off threads, go here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/75793-maal-drakar-
  2. OneBoot and I will be kicking off this latest 7-day challenge on August 1st, 2017 and it will run for a full year until August 1st, 2018. This is to give participants time to arrange for a 7-day block of time to work on the piece, as it will likely need every minute! This will be the first 7-Day challenge to have a contest component for best completed entry, which will have a prize. My understanding is that Reaper will provide a gift certificate ($50 was the amount discussed) for the ultimate winner. (As I am running the contest, I am of course not eligible for the prize) Any additional in
  3. This thread will serve as an index of all the Work in Progress and Show-off threads created by participants in this glorious madness. Don't post your entries here! Please make your own threads, then make a post here with links to them. Thread for Official Entries is here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/76081-maal-drakar-7-day-challenge-official-entries-no-chatter/ The Challenge will begin on August 1st 2017, and will be open for submission of completed entries until midnight CST on August 1st 2018. For further information, please see this thread.
  4. We all knew this day would come eventually. The day where OneBoot tosses the very few marbles she has left into the ocean and throws herself in after them. The blank 4th spot in my lovely Goblin Challenge signature badge has been glaring at me for several months now, and my personal circumstances have now aligned to allow me to attempt this, my final Challenge. For those of you unfamiliar with Goblin Painting Challenges, started by our very own @buglips*the*goblin, here is a link to his Kaladrax thread that started it all: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/51269-kaladrax
  5. So.... Back when I first joined the forums, I found a thread about a certain Goblin painting a limited edition Ral Partha figure that I happened to own, but had been sitting in a box for 15-20 years due to the 'I'm not good enough' syndrome.... Well I decided that I Was Good Enough and set to work, as chronicled by this so as at the time of being a noob arround here, I was very encouraged by the multiple responses that I got.... such as:
  6. Hi, friends! In continuing with our plan to catch up with painting the Dungeon Dwellers as a joint WIP together as they come out, can I interest you in some Baran Blacktree? Buglips and I will be painting him in our usual fashion, but if you haven't already, make sure that you check out Rhonda Bender's awesome PDF painting guide for him here: Dungeon Dwellers Y'all probably know by now how these go, but if not, check out our Thanis the Bonecaller thread where it all began and that'll give you links to all of the other joint WIP threads we've done.
  7. Hi friends! We have another project to share with you in our continuing series where Buglips and I paint the same figure using our own very different from each other approaches to miniature painting. If you're not familiar with this series, you can check out our previous topics: 03100: Thanis the Bonecaller 01614: Con Crud 2017 Convention Zombie 02818: Bugbear Warrior For this project, we decided to paint Scorpius Rex Dracus, which is an older figure in the back catalog of Reaper - just look at the number! 02017! He's one of the OG's of the Reaper catalog! Our usual
  8. Bryan's thread is fun, so I totally stole the idea. And anyway, as the Official Forum Mascot it seemed a good way for people to get to know me better. And see what cannot be unseen, learn what cannot be unlearned. I think somebody suggested this long ago, even. Anyway, have at it. (answers may be "based on a troo story")
  9. As the title says, help @buglips*the*goblin my friend was unpacking his hobby room stuff from a move and came across a sealed case of GW Foundation paint dated 2007. I thought I'd ask if there was anything you could suggest in helping restore them if they've separated or what not.
  10. Hello fine people (and other assorted things) of the Reaper forum! Continuing in our project of teaming up to show you two different methods to go about painting the same miniature, Buglips and I decided that we would do a WIP thread for Con Crud, Convention Zombie from the 2017 Reapercon swag bag! He's a great little figure, sculpted by Gene Van Horne, that we thought we could have some fun with. This will be our second shared WIP thread in this series of ours, in case you missed it, check out our first one where we painted Thanis the Bonecaller: As with t
  11. Not gonna lie, I'm really nervous about this one. I may be making a terrible mistake, but I am going to be attempting to paint this giant 5 headed dragon in 7 days with a size 0 brush while working my usual work schedule that tends to run around 56 hours. I will have a 3 day weekend to end it out, but I originally wanted to take a solid week off to do this, but my work situation may be changing in the next couple of months - nothing bad, mind you, but I might not have as much time off as I have in previous years and I'd rather not wait until the holidays to see how things shake out. Let's be
  12. For those of you unfamiliar with Goblin Painting Challenges, started by our very own @buglips*the*goblin, here is a link to the Kaladrax thread that started it all: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/51269-kaladrax-in-seven-days-buglips-is-crazy-wip . For this Challenge, I will be painting up Ma'al Drakar in 7 days, using no brushes larger than a size 0. The rules are posted below: I will be starting my Challenge at 1:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time on August 2nd 2017 (link here). EDIT: If you want to skip all of the talky stuff, here'
  13. So to go along with the Goblin Leader that is the hangout mini of the month for April, I decided to do a companion Xvart... He is a Gobbo from the Ben Seins sculpts, but I thought his head looked a little bare, so after cutting off the broccoli, I decided to sculpt a 'Stahlhelm' on his head.... first layer of putty.... Should I sculpt Jackboots too??? Thoughts and comments welcome!
  14. Sooooo.... I did this little thing last week... no big deal, just painted DDS2 in 7 days with nothing larger than a size 0 brush. WIP is here if you missed it: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/72422-guindyloo-vs-dds2-in-7-days/ I pulled it out of the pantry to take a few extra pictures......so it's a lot of pictures. And because it's me, the pictures are terrible. I try, I really do, but I'm just extremely incompetent when it comes to taking pictures. First of all, group shots: Then here are some natural daylight shots that I took between my patio door and curtains.
  15. I assume you're all already familiar with the Goblin Challenges, especially since there are 2 other contenders taking on their own challenges right now! Time off from work for me always means it's paint slopping time... I don't know what I'm going to do when I run out of challenges to do. In case you've forgotten the roolz: 1) Thou shalt not use any brush larger than a standard size 0. 0 shall be the number on the brush, and the number on the brush shall be 0. 1 shalt thou not use, neither use thou 2, excepting that thou ensures that it is actually 0/2 on the brush. 5 is right out
  16. It's time for yet another bonechilling show-off, as I torture your eyeballs with the fresh horrors that have crawled off my worktable. You ready? Hold on to your butts! First, a Reaper Anhurian: And a Reaper Barrow Rat: And a Reaper Jalinrix (linked for nudity): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/themizmenace/jalinrix_zps52rnh1mw.jpg A Ral Partha Female Fighter: A Ral Partha TSR Frost Giant: Some Ral Partha TSR Dretches: Some Ral Partha TSR Hamatula: A Ral Partha TSR Marid: Two Ral Partha Crucible... hellhounds or
  17. Recently (Monday evening) I completed my first 7 day Goblin Challenge, following the guidelines put forth by our resident Goblin Buglips here. I'd booked a week off (Tuesday to Tuesday, for silly work reasons) and figured I'd try doing Khanjira before even considering the soonTM to come 5 Heads in 7 Days. So, with a fist full of Size 0 brushes in hand, I set off. Little did I know that fate would throw just about every delay causing event in the book at me, I managed to complete it with 28 minutes to spare (and was only half an hour late for D&D). You can read all about it over in the
  18. It's time! (Well, not right now, but a little bit later it will be....you know). I'm starting a week of stay-cation tonight (our on-call schedule is Tuesday to Tuesday. is it a pain for vacations, yes, but it avoids all the Monday holiday switching stuff....) and as my only real plan was to not be at work I thought it was time I got in on the, umm, fun? that is the 7 day Goblin Challenge. My opponent for the week will be Khanjira, the supposed World Breaker (honestly, I dropped him and he barely even cracked the world, hardly a scratch). Here is a candid shot of him relaxing in the h
  19. That's right, an unknown with maybe 3 painted minis to his name is going to attempt the blasphemy of following in the footsteps of buglips*the*goblin and OneBoot! As a refresher, here's a link to the original challenge: http://forum.reaperm...ps-is-crazy-wip I will be following the same rules buglips followed in his challenge (plus some Christmas bagpipes the whole way because how is that not distracting?): 1) Only using a standard Size 0 brush since that was all he had. 2) I will work on Kaladrax for 168 consecutive hours (7 days) 3) The only prep time I've done is to wash and boil
  20. May you survive the yearly birthday attack and squash the rumour that I may or may not have started that if one of your limbs is cut off, you can count the rings inside to see how old you are!
  21. Welcome, welcome, one and all, to the very first Purple Cat Challenge! Most of you are probably familiar by now with the 7 day Goblin Challenge; the one where you can only use brushes Size 0 or smaller, and being kinda crazy is a common prerequisite. If you haven't heard of this madness before, here's the official rules, and here's where the insanity all began. Now, after completing two of them, I've become rather fond of these challenges, and how they've stretched me to my limits and beyond as a painter. Something I've definitely noticed, though, is that while the Goblin Challenges a
  22. If you or someone you know might be crazy, please check out the Official Goblin Challenge thread: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69639-7-day-goblin-challenge-official-rules It's doctor recommended and tastes great! Four day weekend means it's paint slopping time! In case you've forgotten the roolz and are too lazy to go to the link above, I'll repeat my version of them because I know clicking things is hard. 1) Thou shalt not use any brush larger than a standard size 0. 0 shall be the number on the brush, and the number on the brush shall be 0. 1 shalt thou not use, n
  23. Laaaaaadies and Geeeeeeeeeentlemen!!! Welcome to the Epic 7-day Challenge Khanjira battle: OneBoot vs. Buglips! OneBoot issued the Challenge! Buglips accepted! They will be following the standard rules! (Rules reposted here for clarity) 1. You may use no brushes larger than Size 0. As Size 0 can vary by company and brand, the average bristle dimensions are 10mm long by 1mm wide. When selecting brushes, try to be as close to this guideline as possible. 2. You have 7 full days to complete from your posted start time (including a picture with a time stamp from a phone or compute
  24. Okay! I now have the paints I will require, as well as the superglue and the brushes!! On Tuesday morning I will be starting my own Kaladrax Reborn challenge! The rules I shall be following are the standard. 1: No brushes will be used that are larger than a standard size 0. Also no airbrushing or finger painting is permitted!! 2: I will have seven days from my posted start time to finish the work. This will be established with a photo showing date and time on my computer screen. 3: All parts of the miniature will be fully painted. Again, all paint will be applied using a brush no
  25. If you're not familiar by now with the Goblin Challenge, then please go to Buglips' original thread where he first slayed Kaladrax: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/51269-kaladrax-in-seven-days-buglips-is-crazy-wip Then you're definitely going to want to see where OneBoot rose to the occasion and slayed the beast as well: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/68762-oneboot-is-crazy-too-kaladrax-in-7-days-wip/page-1 Well, as First Lady-thing and Buglips' other different favourite, I feel that it's my duty to take up the challenge as well - besides, I need to know fo
