I am currently in somewhat beginning stages of trying to build an entire medieval village out of dollarstore foam and hotglue, this was the third building I've ever built actually. Unfortunately it was super hard to get decent pictures of it.. but I'm pretty sure that it at least looks ok. As a side note, I have absolutely no clue how historically accurate this thing is. It looked somewhat like stuff Ive seen in shows and online and I figured that it was for either frostgrave or dnd so It doesnt have to be the pinnacle of realism lol.

So, I invoke the 3 foot rule on these; one could go back and forth forever attempting to edge half-timbered buildings. I have been idly working on new scenery since the pandemic, and finished two more buildings plus a well I bought a few months ago. (That’s lightning speed compared to some projects.) These are sold on Amazon by some outfit called Ender Toys. I picked up a group of four, and a second group of two, some fences and the well. If these are an example of what I could get at home, I’m not rushing out to get a printer to wrestle with. The filament lines are pretty distinct close up. However, they are light and didn’t take all that long to paint, so I think they will be fine in a game. Hello All, I was looking on the internet for some buildings to use with my Cav forces so having a look at the scale a lot of reasonable models pre-painted came up as well as the 4ground ones you need to put together yourself then I came across these ready damaged buildings. And theres a few different variants and they don't break the bank either. looks a nice kit comes flatpack and easy to just clip together, the Cav is for scale and as you can see not bad, just deciding whether to spray it then add some burns marks for recent damage or weathering to make it a bit more like the ones that I've seen done for drop zone commander with all the foliage on them. what do people think will use this topic to show any progress with my painting regards '66'

Hi everyone, Lately I've been using throw-away plastic bits like blister packs and sauce cups as molds to make plaster buildings. Seeing the nice results on different wip's using "N" scale Outland Models buildings for CAV terrain, I picked up a few kits myself....and I actually finished one! This is the train railway modern garage / logistic center. I was shooting for a fairly new concrete precast type building. I am pretty happy with how it turned out. I used mostly sponge stiling to achieve the look. Here it is with one of my best painted CAV for scale ( he is in the classic B&W T.V. Camo pattern ). Now for the problems....I was able to get a nice sky / earth effect on the window panes, but it does't even show in the photos. Next one I will probably use brighter colors for the sky and earth reflection. The decal on the roof was also a big fail. I tried a method of rubbing the ink off of a printed page as shown on the Baremetal YouTube videos. That was a failure. I used an inkjet printer and I suspect he used a laser printer which would explain the problem I ran over. I was partially successful in hiding the problem by printing out a badge from the CAV kickstarter and varnishing it to the roof. The center of the badge was cut out and I stipled blue in the cutout. Lastly my clumsy hands broke several assembly pins while assembly the building with all the paint on it...so superglue came to the rescue! Anyways C&C is welcome. -MIKE

Later this week we are launching a Kickstarter featuring Viking and Anglo-Saxon ships, buildings and accessories - and we wanted to get the word out. Yes...more ships! During the Kickstarter we'll be making some of our older ships and popular models available for a limited time as well as the new ones. Same designs - but now unpainted. To recap on our history: Last year we closed up our webstore and decided to pretty much quit making models. But after some thought we came up with the idea for a "Model of the Month" (MoTM) - evolve to go forward! Each month we make a brand new model available for purchase - we take orders, build and ship exactly that number, then "retire" the kit and move on to something else on the next month. We have been slowly building up customers and getting the word out there. Some models did better than others but what was clear to us was that we still enjoyed making models, just at a more relaxed pace. Only doing one model a month was way more enjoyable and because we could mass-produce more efficiently - it's also a better business model for us. Renaissance Miniatures has never been our bread and butter. We do okay on Model-of-the-Month and Kickstarters but the webstore was always more pain than gain. Then came our small Viking ship as one of our MoTM offerings. Vikings was a genre we had never done before but our ship models are always a favorite of customers. So, rather than spinning them out over months - lo and behold: A new Kickstarter featuring what a lot of people know us for..ships! The Model of the Month is on hold right now while we get the Kickstarter running - but it'll start up again in a couple of months. But for now, the Viking Kickstarter is the main priority. Getting the models made and sent out to backers as quickly as possible. So please join us next week and follow along. Give us some feedback and lets make this fun again. I need to to take a village with me to Huzzah in Maine in two weeks, to use in a 40mm Renaissance game. My collaborator and I have used somewhat underscale buildings for 40mm battle games before, so I thought this would be a good excuse to get some Fold-flat buildings from Fat Dragon done. The building on the left is a basic 4x4 square, which I built a year or so back. The three stir one on the right is new today. Some of my 40s are here to give me an idea whether this looks right. Here's a view of the bigger one, each story extending a bit more... Once I had warmed up, doing another 4x4 small building, with a slightly different layer choice in the printing, only took about 45 minutes. I've three more already printed out today, so I'm hoping to get this finished this weekend. 6 should be enough for this game...

Has anyone noticed that those brown plastic inserts in chocolate boxes, when flipped upside down, look a lot like industrial storage tanks and bunkers?

Seeing one of the recent KS, I was suddenly reminded of one of my childhood loves. And by golly, they're still being made! (But aren't cheap. Though maybe they were always expensive) Suddenly a near forgotten memory becomes a modern city landscape kit. Now to figure out the scale of these. I remember plenty of my toy cars going through them (often crash through). P.S. According to their website, scale is HO 1/87.

This was one of several terrain pieces my husband gave me for my birthday earlier this month, a "Medieval Cottage 1300 - 1700" from Perry Miniatures. This is the first hard plastic miniature I've ever put together, and I'd like to thank the other forumites who gave me advice on glues and things. It came on several sprues, three I think it was, and went together pretty easily. The doors open and shut. There is also a small shed for animals or wood or something, and a lot of woven wicker fencing. I didn't take any pictures of the assembly or priming, but at the moment it has been thinly primed with transparent white and washed for shadows with Burnt Umber. A lot of the original grey plastic still shows through. I am probably going to paint this very strangely.

Has anyone got recommendations for terrain of a suitable scale for CAV robots, with a particular focus on buildings? I am told the scale is 10mm, which I am told is about 1/180, or model railroad N scale. There are a lot of readymade and kit model railroad buildings out there, although most of them seem to be smaller and more rural or historical. Are they worth the price? Hydrocal is like plaster, isn't it? So a hydrocal building would be pretty heavy. Styrene, however, sounds a bit fragile. But I don't know; it's not my area of expertise. I have some vision of playing the game among futuristic, relatively tall skyscrapers. While I'm pretty sure I can make some out of half-gallon milk cartons, I am wondering what other possibilities are out there and if anyone can recommend -- or warn against -- products or processes.

So I'm thinking of building terrain "fronts" by taking some leftover foamcore, some photos of buildings, and creating some fold-out support ('L-shaped?) so that they will stand up. Has anyone ever tried this? I'm thinking of building fronts because a) more easily stored b) give me lots of flexibility to create mood c) my GNL mats will be used for layouts. d) faster than building full, playable bulidings I'm wondering about sizing. if I do 12 ft per story, that'll fit on an 8x11 paper? I suppose I should compare it to my existing 2 floor MDF stuff, but different eras. I still have no idea yet whether I can find enough photos at sufficient resolution to do this. I took one from google streetview (spoilered), which is also 3 storeys. I suppose I will test something out and report back. In the meantime, please make suggestions, refer to other similar projects/products you're aware of. Thanks.

This is posted mainly for (Darsc Zacal)...a member who suggested that I add an open air market to my (3D) shire. I think that the idea was fantastic and I will be starting work on this shire board piece in the very near future. This is another section of my (3D) shire for (RPG) fantasy tabletop gaming. This is the (Hot Springs Bath & Barber Shop)...(16"x14")...scratchbuilt in my standard way using a ceiling tile base...The only thing left to do on this piece is the (water casting...it will be casting resin...on both the water fall & pool water area).

This is a fantasy shire section that is a (WIP)...it will be a tabletop game piece when finished...it is (14"x12") built on a standard ceiling tile base. Pictured are the following buildings: 1. Yankee Trader (a pawn shop). 2. Rooming House (cheap rates). 3. Dragon Shoppe & Bank (general store & bank). 4. Ceiling tile base board with road cut in. 5. General view of how this will look when finished.

This is a game play terrain & building(s) piece of a country inn & stables in a tranquil setting (10mm scale). The whole piece is scratchbuilt (except for the horses & the single brown stag in the lower left corner). The piece is (16" x 16") built on a celing tile base. All rock formations are my plaster casts cut & sculptured as needed.

This is the undertaker & blacksmith piece for my shire. It is a tabletop playing piece that is (14" x 11")...Completely scratchbuilt (as are all my shire boards)...I had fun in making the wooden body boxes & grave stones for the undertaker & doing a fully detail blacksmith shop with tarp roll up walls.

Hey all, just saw this and thought people may enjoy this KS as it's a bit different then some that have been posted here before. Basically it's some modular laser cut buildings that are prepainted and look pretty good.
