  1. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/reinaroja/suenos-the-art-of-gary-villarreal They took a long time to come live with this one....... like their other one (Sombras) Reina Roja has chosen an artist with some just askew of normal surreal artwork to draw from. His insta is here Gary Villarreal Looks like the only complaints on their previous KS (Sombras) were shipping delays and people who didn't seem to understand that they were ordering multipart resin models and were determined to kick up a storm about how this wasn't what they thought they were ordering.
  2. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kontraros/order-of-cthulhu This is funded with 10 days left to go. There are busts, 75mm, 38mm and a couple of kickstarter exclusives. Miniature's Den is currently painting the female bust and will be working on a few more pieces on his twitch streams: https://www.twitch.tv/miniaturesden
  3. Of the many busts I’ve printed/purchased lately, this one won out on the priority list. Basecoats and metallics are a mix of acrylics (Reaper and Vallejo) and then a ton of layered oils with some subsequent acrylic highlights again. Painted the eyes very faintly and then “washed them out” to give them that milky look but I feel I went too far as the iris/pupils are pretty much gone. Otherwise, I’m quite happy with him other than the missed support nubs inside his “crown” that will taunt me forever. Thanks for looking.
  4. I just wanted to share a Medieval Knight I painted off of MMF. It was my first bust painted and 3D printed. I learned a lot from this bust. I also tried a new technique by priming pink and doing a zenithal highlight in white ink and shadows with dark pink ink. Then going over with yellow ink to finish it off. I hope you all enjoy as much as I did painting it.
  5. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/squidmar/squidmar-kolinsky-miniature-paintbrush Story In Squidmar Miniatures paintbrushes, the insight of accomplished painters, impeccable production quality, luxurious aesthetics and the finest Kolinsky Sable are all brought together to create an experience which combines style, comfort and practicality in equal measure. Our brushes feature a wide body (AKA the “belly”) while maintaining a sharp point. This allows a Squidmar Miniatures brush to hold more paint in its bristles without losing its point, and lends it the stability and elasticity needed to make the brush feel properly responsive to your movements. Additionally, this design allows you to use a larger brush than you might have normally to accomplish even finer details! The Tobolski Kolinsky hair is compared to Synthetics well rounded and great at keeping its original shape. Giving you a longer working time during paint jobs and lasts you longer keeping the tip pristine even after working on big projects for longer times. Squidmar Brushes - Size Comparison - Equivalent of approximately 00-2 (differs from brand to brand) Our basic brush set contains four Squidmar Miniatures brushes, ranging from XS to L. We chose these four because we feel they represent the most common, and best suited, brush sizes for miniature painting. In addition to our basic set, however, we've also designed a tiny brush, for the finest of details, and an XL brush for heavy duty paint jobs! Armed with a full set of Squidmar Miniatures brushes, you'll be ready to take on any painting project! No wargaming army is too massive, no immaculately detailed display miniature too exquisite! The brushes, from Tiny to Extra Large! Wow, those are some cool ferrules! Not only are the brushes wider, so are the handles! They are designed for comfort and ergonomics, adapted to the anatomy of the human hand. The handles of Squidmar Miniatures brushes are therefore thicker and slightly triangular. This allows the brush to rest naturally in your hand, which lets you relax and focus on painting without risking the dreaded “painter’s cramp”. Oh, and did we mention the fancy gold ferrule? We thought it’d look cooler that way. Your brushes are the safest when they're guarded by an antediluvian squid-being! Our brushes ship in a sleek cylindrical storage case. The bottom of the case is lined with a dense storage foam to stick the brushes into. This allows a Squidmar Miniatures brush to rest standing up, and avoids having any pressure placed on the bristles themselves. An open storage case additionally serves as a handy paintbrush stand while sitting at your workstation, your entire collection standing at attention! Handy, right? Cool and practical in equal measure! Not only are we Kickstarting world-class paintbrushes, we're also introducing a line of exquisite miniature busts, custom sculpted for our campaign! Each bust is incredibly detailed, imaginatively designed, and bursting with character - sculpted by such renowned artists as Joaqin Palacios and Leonardo Escobar Quintero! There are 5 of these resin cast miniatures in total at 1/10 scale, ranging from 6.5 centimeters to as large as 10 centimeters. The retail cost of these never-before seen miniatures will range from 45€ to 55€, but all will be exclusively available for 40€ each through this Kickstarter, or even cheaper when purchased in a bundle! These fantastic miniature busts are specifically designed to help you become a better painter, sculpted to enable you to practice (and master!) painting everything from warm, rugged skin to cold, gleaming metal! Don't worry, though, we're here to guide you through it. Each bust is accompanied by a YouTube video painting guide where expert painters demonstrate advanced techniques, made simple! Squidmar's Boxart of Illonth Magic in the making! The Squidmar Miniatures paintbrushes are hand-crafted to exacting specifications by experienced professionals, using only the highest quality materials and the finest Kolinsky Sable hair. The union of comfort and practicality in each brush is perfect for experienced painters working to master their craft, beginners who are brand new to miniature painting, and everyone in between! This Kickstarter is a great opportunity to not only grab a set of fantastic paintbrushes but a set of beautiful miniature busts as well! These finely detailed miniature busts, bursting with character, will allow you to grow and develop as a painter. We'll be with you throughout your journey through our custom painting tutorials, where we'll do our best to guide you through a variety of advanced techniques. Finally, a heartfelt thank you from our entire campaign for taking the time to read this, and we hope you pledge a contribution, no matter how small. Join us in our quest for the miniature paintbrush of our dreams!
  6. Hey gang, I'm taking a dive into Bust painting, starting with a bust I scored from The Ouroboros Miniatures' Exquis Kickstarter: Adriana. I'm calling her Mrs. Jones just due to her striking resemblance to Jessica Jones from Marvel Comics; but I digress. Firstly it was mold line and flash removal followed by a bath. I figured I would make this a project of several firsts. I attempted a Z-Priming via rattle cans. Yes, I know an airbrush is so much smoother, but I haven't the equipment or space for that yet.....yet. I used the Citadel Chaos Black and the new Seer Grey rattle cans to a decent effect, or so I thought. The Seer Grey made her a little grainy. A very rough texture to work around/on I have found. Maybe I didn't shake it enough, or maybe it was slightly to humid. I"m unsure just yet. After this I called her done for the night. I hope to try to work on her between 30 - 90 minutes a night until complete. Crossing fingers!!
  7. About this project Trio is born from my videogames experience, is born by my idea to create a variegated set that include different types of subjects including animals, armours, textiles and skins of various types. The busts of this campaign are all handsculpted by Alberto Acquaviva and me and all are in resin cast. Through this busts i want to show you how the wisdom can be beautiful and delicate, how the courage can be aggressive in front of a trial and how the power can corrupt your face...and your soul. All this collection busts are composed just by one piece except Heero, the courage that is composed by three parts. The collection has been conceived to be easy to assemple and ready from the unboxing to be painted. Is a good trial for both beginners and veteran painters. You can play with colors, lighting effects or freehanding on open surfaces, on little details or animal mantles. So,I hope my project excites and involves you like it did to me. Thanks for reading. Below you'll find the description of all characters, their size and more details on this campaign. Regarding the shipping costs there are two price ranges. First range: shipping up to 4 figures, 5€ Second range: 5+ figures,10€ However be informed that the more models you'll purchase, the bigger will be the discount applied, so your shipping will be anyway cheap.
  8. A few things I managed to get completed this week:
  9. The busts from the base game of Kaosball. It is the latest in my 'Grab a Game and Paint Everything in the Box' projects. I have done this so far with 5 other board games and is a fun way to motivate myself to get more stuff painted.

  11. So here it is, THE WIP THREAD for the Group/Open Challenge of 54mm+ scaled figures AND BIGGER (yes, that includes busts)! Please feel free to add your own WIP pics in this thread. Give credit to the manufacturer and sculptor, but please remember to not have any commerce links in here just like the rest of the forum. This thread isn't for "Chatter" the chatter thread is over here -------> 54mm+ Challenge Discussion Thread If you have C&C and advice to give or wish to receive, that's what this thread is for. I ask for the MODS to help keep this as chatter free as possible so that the actual WIP stuff is seen in here. FAQ's in Spoiler ETA: If you already have a WIP thread and rather keep using that, please feel free to do as Dave did below and link to it, or do both!
  12. This is a 1/12 scale bust from Heroes & Villains Miniatures. It's my first mini larger than 32mm, and is both very fun (lots of detail) and frustrating (lots of detail). I'm beyond impressed with the casting quality. There were no bubbles at all, and I could barely even tell where the seam on the mold was, there was so little flash/lines. The face and skin are more or less completed, besides a few touch-ups around the edges. I wish I had gone with a much ruddier skintone; he's much too fair to have been out in the sun and salt all day, but it's too late now. Maybe he just got out of prison? I think the hair needs another highlight pass. I'm inclined to call the coat nearly done, though I'm not sure if I want to hit one more highlight or even brighten the shadows a tad. The frayed edges need to be finished, too. I went for a complimentary Forest Green shadow on the red part, and I'm pretty pleased with it. The blending across the back turned out nice too. The leather strap is a WIP, but you can see what I'm going for, and I'm thinking about doing the bandana as red gingham checks, or maybe just stripes. He has a hat, sword, and part of his bandanna as separate pieces, which I will attach last so they don't get in the way. I'm also saving the metals for the very end, and I'm not sure if I'm going to do TMM or NMM on those yet. There's also the possibility of a tattoo on one shoulder, though apparently Europeans (even sailors) did not know about tattoos yet at this point. (Excuse my fingers; I don't have him on a proper base yet.) Huge thanks as well to bailey03, his 54mm tutorial was invaluable. I'm happy to hear critique; I'd rather hear it now than once it's too late.
  13. Okay so I've been seeing all these wonderful busts as of late (such as Mrs. Melons Steampunk Princess, or that Tuma Windrunner) and I've been wondering. Where do you get such amazing things? I've found several sites selling busts, but there are only like three or four. I would be really awesome if someone knew like one good site or place for busts. Like Reaper is for miniatures. Am I hoping to much? Remember no commerce links on the forums :)
  14. Since someone (I won't name names) is already done with a 54mm+ challenge figure, I'm opening up this thread for show-offs if you'd like to post them here as well. Please no off-topic chatter. 54mm + Discussion/Chat Thread 54mm + WIP Thread (no chatter) Make sure to let us know what figure it is and what manufacturer, NO LINKS to stores of figures other than Reaper please. Let the fun begin!
  15. I am sure there are a bunch of Order of the Stick fans on this forum. I buy the minis of the web comic for my son and get updates from time to time. Well Morland and WAMP have posted a Morland Miniatures Contest to WAMP forums. The contest is open to pretty much anything from Morland Studios. It ends February 21st for non-supporters and the 28th for supporters. The Morland Studios store for those that might be interested. Here's some sample minis from Morland: And Morland has added back for the duration of the contest or until sold out, 54mm, Shar, the Traveler. Personally, I might give this a go with one of the OotS miniatures I got my son. He's not much into painting. Also, this is a new work only contest so no "finished" pictures can be published before submission. WIP shots are fine.
