  1. This is s figure that I painted during a speed painting class at Reapercon a couple years ago. I decided to go back and clean up a couple things that I think could have been a little better. I know that's not quite the idea of speed painting, but I brought him to my tabletop standard, so I'm happy with him now.
  2. I recently finished Anirion! It was time to add layering to my toolbox of techniques and he seems to be the go-to model for learning. Since by I now have (just) over 10 minis under my belt, I'm obviously an expert so I felt confident enough to go with my own colors rather than the ones in the instructions (from Layer-Up kit). Still, even with my "vast experience", I've only painted beasts and monsters so far -- no fancy clothing on any of them -- so I was a bit nervous about messing up my first hero, but you gotta start somewhere. I think he turned out great, but it went nothing like the videos one might find... And by that I mean it took me several painting sessions over a few weeks to finish him. More on how it went on: pocketsizedadventurers.wordpress.com/2019/10/19/anirions-wavy-robes/ * * First post, woo-hoo! Still finding my way around here. Rules seem to allow non-commercial external links, let me know if I'm wrong... Our blog, Pocket-Sized Adventurers, features the works of two newbies and is meant to keep track of our progress and share our experience with whomever might find it helpful.
  3. I hadn't planned to do a Show Off thread of this figure, the Bones 77160: Judas Bloodspire, Vampire, by Werner Klocke. I just grabbed him from my bin o' Bones because a game needed some vampires and he looked pretty good and melodramatic. I didn't even do a WIP thread. But something happened. The more I painted him the more I realized what a magnificent little piece of sculpture he was. Details kept popping out at me. He has this amazing, proud Miltonian damned soul Satanic presence, with that neoclassical drapery and the broken column and that tremendous, flapping, almost alive cape like a fallen angel's wings. Werner Klocke did a fantastic job with him. The figure exists in metal, but I suspect it would be a nightmare to glue and hold together. I would be quite nervous about painting it and can only express the highest admiration for those who have done so. One further note. About halfway through painting him I glued him to a base, because as he is configured he cannot stand flat. That damned sword keeps getting in the way. Note that even in the store photo he is propped up a little by the point of the sword. This seems to be a problem with the Bones version only.
  4. Here is a very familiar face. I painted this guy up for my Brother so he could use him to represent his character in our Dungeons and Dragons games.
  5. Another member my Frostgrave warband. This time an archer. Any critiques and comments are most welcomed. Please enjoy.
  6. My first caster for Frostgrave. Harsh and honest critiques are most welcome.
  7. I feel a bit bad saying this, but since the Euro dropped in comparison to USD, I finally felt that it was worth it to splurge a bit on a mini I've always had my eyes on for a while: The casting is absolutely amazing; no mold lines to speak of, square slots fit like a dream. Only gap I see is in the two parts of the cape; I'll need to fill that before doing much else. Only boo-boo was the sword crossguard was snapped off... but I hate bits that fiddly anyways, and I was on the fence about adding it in. Dilemma solved. Assembled into all the major sections for now, need to think about what color the armor is going to be...
  8. My last topic on this forum was a Brandle Birchstaff and I liked him so much that I decided to paint another!
  9. Please excuse the bent halberd. It was a little off when I took the pics and of course I didn't notice at the time.
  10. The freehand is supposed to be of a nebula. It's the first freehand I attempted and I think it worked out pretty well as long as I preface with the proclamation that it's supposed to be a nebula
  11. The first finished mini from my big pile of Kingdom Death: Monster stuff (and I don't even have most of it yet!), The Messenger of the Spiral Path:- Grrr... Capes, my old enemy returns! Apart from that though, I'm rather pleased with him, think he looks pretty good. You can find his WIP thread here. Any comments and criticisms are, as always, warmly received.
  12. This is the first step on my epic journey to paint up my entire Kingdom Death: Monster set (and hopefully many, many as yet unmade future expansions), I'm starting with the Messenger of the Spiral Path:- I've left him fairly unassembled because there's quite a bit that will be inaccessible after his cape is fully attached (and his left arm won't fit properly with the cape off). So the current plan is to paint him from the waist down, his back, his right arm and the inside of his cape, then finish assembly, then finish painting him. I'm kinda making a lot more work for myself as most of this won't even be visible on the finished mini, but if I leave it, I'll know it's unpainted and it'll nag at me. Made a start on painting:- Hate painting red! So far there's 5 different colours on there (Carnage Red, 1:1 Carnage Red/Blood Red, Blood Red, 1:1 Blood Red/Vallejo Vermilion, Vermilion) and yet the Carnage Red basecoat has barely changed. Not a huge problem as most of this won't be seen, but I'm hoping the outside of the cape (also red) goes a bit better. Gotta try and make more progress tomorrow, as I've signed up to a thing on another forum and he's due to be presented at the end of September.
  13. A Birthday present for a friend.
  14. Bought myself transparent glowing colors. From now on, every miniature I paint will glow in the dark.....every single one :) front back in the dark I will redo the sword. That's my kryptonite....among other things :)
  15. Pulled over from my sculpting thread. Would be in Show Off, except there are just those tiny things which still bug me. That slight grainy texture on the face is getting really annoying, and I'm not really sure how to smooth it or fix it. Need to shadow the cape more I think. Sword is not as bright as I would like, but short of going out and buying a bottle of florescent paint for this alone, I think it's fine. Huh. Reaper Alien Flesh MSP is the exact same color as ProCreate. The patterning on the concept art... hahaha I don't think i can do much more than try and suggest it like what I've done a little bit. I already have trouble drawing it in with my micron pen.
  16. Long time no post. So here I go again. Another party member so another character waiting to be killed. His name is Chval (can be translated as "praise") and he is the witcher from the fire order. These boys call themselves "Hearts of fire". More like "farts on fire" to me. As a character I never liked him, as he was real phoney. He had a horse, while we were walking, he had a sword, while we had only sticks.... But during our last game we kind of find a way to each other....(un)fortunately my character has died, so the friendship was over in an hour :) Hope you will like him more than I did :) And again better res picture over here I need to paint my new character now... Still can't find the proper miniature.
  17. This is a miniature from the company Assassin Miniaturen. HERE is a picture with all parts of this miniature. It is still in WIP.
