I picked this up ages ago at a wargames fair I think from the Bring and Buy. No idea what the original story was - the blocks under the skulls each have a rune or a Roman numeral but I don't think the runes are from the same alphabet...and the helmet in the ashes is Greek. The cauldron though battered has the remains of raised decoration. But it is quite a fabulous piece and as a bonus the two parts can be used separately... Not sure what the hill giants have seasoned their Man-Stew with to get it that colour. I decided that they have come across the self-heating skulls artifact and used it. These Hill Giants I painted a few years ago have Neolithic tastes ( jewellery and tattoos) but have obviously raided a castle somewhere and adapted tapestries etc to wear. Slaine is a standard 28mm figure for scale....

It's about that time...a chill in the air, the smell of woodsmoke, the crops gathered in. And despite hardships it's been a bountiful year. Time to celebrate with full heart and full belly. This doesn't just happen, of course; it takes work. Click for delivery of produce, featuring 77665, 77657, and a few others we have seen before: And to make use of these ingredients, we have three worthy community members. Hock Metzger, the butcher (with his loyal pig Not-For-Eatin', here to dispose of scraps and waste) brings great hams, sides of beef and mutton, and cured meats and sausages of all kinds. Side note: it is very very easy to sculpt a ham, especially if you have a pin or small round-headed nail to serve as a bone. And cylindrical sprue bits make exceptional salamis and deli meats. Next up: Tub the Baker. Here with an assortment of coarse and fine breads, ciabatta, baguette, cakes, pastries, and pies, along with some confectionry for the children. He is a skilled enough baker to have created a gingerbread Pastry Golem. It is very helpful in running errands (runs very fast) and about as helpful as you would expect an animated cookie to be for other tasks. (This, and the lollipops, came from a WotC Free RPG Day candy witch cottage set!) He will find a use for many of those apples from earlier. Turnaround: And now we are ready, here is chef and saucier extraordinaire, Pudgin, with kettles, cauldrons, basins, and vats. Turnaround: And LET'S GET TO WORK! (tripod cauldron from Adventurers' Camp set, Nolzur's, big cauldron from Nolzur's Witch's Study, middle cauldron and tantalizing steam again from the candy witch cottage set.) The Stonehaven Halfling Cook is also here as a vegetable-peeler and extra set of hands for sauteeing and searing. Let things boil and simmer and mix while it gets dark. Gotta have lighting though! Chandler (from Midlam) is here to help. Owes Hock for a bunch of tallow, anyway. Click for setup shots and more of Tub's fine pastries! Ah, ready at last! Stay tuned for Part 2: The Boozening.

Been putting this on the table sans paint a couple of times, so long overdue painting was finally done. It's been a center pices for a hag's tower and now the party took it!

As I pondered my choice of wizard for my new monstrous Frostgrave warband, I slowly realized there was only one choice really. I put his witch, cat, and cauldron into he shopping cart around Halloween time. I knew I needed one for any legitimate Halloween display of miniatures. But it had sat unpainted in the blister for a few months while other things took priority. Back to the frostgrave war band. So I chose witch as my wizard's school and proceeded to fill the ranks of soldiers with monstrous members like the horned hunter and a medusa archer, couple of tieflings, and even giant rats as warhounds. I think I am meant to paint up this witch as the wizard. She comes with a cat that I'm putting on the base with her and a cauldron that I am not. The cauldron will make a great prop when playing pathfinder and I already have a place for it in the birthday party adventure I have planned for next week. However the cauldron needs to sit on a fire or bed of coals or something. I realized I do not even have a campfire token so that became part of this project. okay, so first I grabbed two 20 mm bases and glued some small pebbles and gravel to them like so: Next I had to put the witch and cat on a base. I cut up an old bones base to fill out the bare base with flagstone shapes and glued down more gravel to fill in some of the gaps. Finally everything got some black primer. Witch and cat: fire pit: The black Cauldron: All of this happened over the last couple of days. Have not had much chance to paint since Friday night since we currently have house guests, but still managed to just start to lay down base coats while everyone else was entertained by part of a movie. Out pale saffron on the Inside of the cauldron and emanations, the cats eyes, the center coals in the fire pit, and the bat in the witches hand. No, I am not making the bat yellow. Honestly did not realize it was a bat until I got the yellow on it. Now I know. also mixed wreath green with dusky skin to start on the witch's skin. Oh and also some vampiric skin for the witches hair and for a quick dry brush on the rocks in the fire pit. Here is where things stand right now. Cauldron Witch Fire pit. I would love some ideas for colors on that witch besides black and green. I can't seem to picture anything else.

Baba Yaga Hut Company: Eastern Front Studios Painted by: ME (Iron Bristle Studios) I have more photo's on my website but I didn't want to clog up Reapers forums with them all. There is already a lot here. Finally finished this beast! What a project. I really hope my fellow Forumnite friends enjoy this. I did OSL and new shading techniques. I attempted to do better with my photographing in many ways. I even bought Hanger 18 back grounds. The big ones though... I didnt have a back drop large enough so I had to use a black sheet. Here is the WIP if you would like to see: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/73078-baba-yagas-hut-by-eastern-front-studios-picture-heavy/& ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

FIGURE...Grenadier # 2009 (Wizards Room Set - Cauldron with conjured face)...circa (1980-81)... MY TITLE FOR PIECE...The Black Cauldron... STORY LINE...The adventure group has battled climbing the mountain for hours now...crevasse after crevasse...higher and higher...to a height were only moss covers the rocks and gnarled barren trees dot the landscape. You finally reach a small rocky plateau...at the back end is a rocky niche that contains a black cauldron just sitting there. Upon investigation, you find that there is no fire and the cauldron is ice cold...yet it seems to be boiling with some kind of reddish/blackish liquid filled with things that look like tentacles. As you stand at the ready, poised for action, a reddish black mist or smoke rises from the vile liquid and a face appears in the mist (a face that looks like it has seen the coming and going of many ages past). The face speaks in a voice that sounds like it is coming from the depths of an endless void...he says " your destiny awaits...he knows you are coming...he waits "! In a flash...the face is gone...the cauldron is cold and empty...your group stands on the small rocky plateau alone...alone, but with each persons thoughts of what just happened and what might be coming next.........
