So.... Cinder didn't work out for my return to hobbying, so I decided to try something a bit less ambitious.... Reading back through past projects, I saw one of the hangout minis of the month was Blacktounge, Gnoll Ranger from Reaper, and remembered that I had picked up this set at a paint day with the New England Miniatures folks at the Citadel games store.... I figure if I can follow my old WIP, I won't be stressing to much, and I will have another figure to add to the Frostgrave warband that was started so long ago,,,, So the 2 got assembled and puttied, and now the never ending search for minor mold lines can begin when the putty is dry... thanks for taking a look! Wish me luck!!!!

Presenting Brutogg Corpse-Eater, my first finished adventurer from the game Cursed City by Games Workshop. Had a lot of fun painting this guy, I experimented by giving him grey-hued skin to represent his unhealthy eating habits (he eats zombies) and it worked better than I thought it would. Annoyingly though, I had to leave the bits under his coat unpainted (just couldn't get a brush up there), nobody will notice unless they turn him upside down, but it still bothers me that he's technically "Unfinished". As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

Hello everyone, I completed this Wizards of the Coast model today. This is a 88714, Goblin Scout of the Drazen's Horde faction. It's a Chainmail Miniatures model that was sculpted by Jerzy Montwill. The base is 20mm in diameter and I painted it with Reaper MSP paint.

Another little piece that I am happy to finally have completed. I love these monsters and they are often in my dungeons but rarely seen and never sought after. Hunting these is like hunting the garbage collector, you only do it when you think you threw out something valuable. But there have been a couple of points where I wished I had a miniature for it and now that's resolved. Hope you like him... I named him Fred

Hello everyone, I had painted this Wizards of the Coast 88362, Hammerer years ago and it was the perfect model to practice weathering effect. So, I took it a step farther last weekend during Reaper Virtual Expo. I followed the advices David Cecil and Justin McCoy give over their respective Weathering Effects classes. I added rust, oil leaks, blood and improved the scratches. I also added mud between the stone tiles on the base and enhanced the glowing effect of the eye and runes. This model was sculpted by Jim Warner. Side-by-side comparison, before and WIP.

Hello inspiration Tuesday, Here are pictures of a Wizards of the Coast 88712, Zombie Troglodyte I completed Yesterday. This Chainmail model was sculpted by Will Hannah and was painted with Reaper MSP paint.

Sandra Garrity makes some of my favorite Dwarves, and the detail on this one stood out. It doesn't show up much in the picture, but there are some Norse Futhark runes on the blade of the sword in blue that only appear if I rotate the figure 45% left or right. Also, I love dwarves in green.

Hi everyone, I was recently sorting through old pictures and came upon some interesting ones. I think I never posted this one. It's a Wizards of the coast Chainmail CM88705, Gnoll Trooper. I probably painted this it in 2006. I thought some of you might like to see it. Anyone knows who sculpted this model?

Wizards of the Coast, Chainmail Miniatures Drazen’s Horde faction 88361, Ogre Trooper. This 42mm tall pewter model was sculpted by Mike McVey and I painted it with acrylics and inks.

This is an old wizard figure from the ChainMail game. I'm including him as part of my Morihalda Challenge; he was already painted, but I did some touch ups, and based him. I was having a bad day, but didn't want to break my streak, so I needed something quick and easy. Still trying to get the hang of playing with my wife's light box; he's a little washed out.

Here's an effort I made at painting this orc. I've only been painting three weeks so I am open to help/comments. I added some Welsh slate to the base. Took some inspiration from an artist called slashhamster. Thanks

So somehow I've gotten roped into this Hangout of the Month piece, possibly because I may have been the first one to mention that I have this figure and it just snowballed from there. Thanks to knarthex for getting all of this started. This is the first metal figure that I'll have ever done, so we'll see how it goes. Here he is in all of his shininess. This thing has a heck of a lot of fiddly bits to it, he's going to be a challenge. But on to getting it prepped: .....And this happened. I had tried using Duplicolor Sandable Primer on it, but it couldn't quite get into the crevices (and there's a lot of them). So it got an overnight bath in Simple Green, and when I woke up, it was all rusted. I'm not sure what happened, there must have been a chemical reaction that corroded it. .........Ha ha, I jest. Since I has a sample of Stynylrez Primer from my Reapercon bag, I decided to test it out to see how it was, and it just happens to be red. I found that it covered things quite nice, it's definitely something I'll use again once I find some that's a more neutral colour. I took a page from Buglips' book ( I know, you're thinking that goblins aren't literate. But they use the pages for toilet paper. And that's only when they want to feel fancy) and made a wash from Warpaints Black. The ratio was 1 part Warpaints Black/6 parts water/1 part flow improver/2 parts stank. It brought up even more little details on the figure that I hadn't even noticed before, there's a lot of cool things about this one, even if painting them will kills me. I realize that I don't even have a real plan to paint this thing, so I'm just winging it and researching various methods of accomplishing what I have in mind. I haven't had much time to do much painting right now, hopefully after tomorrow I'll be freed up a bit more.

My February Hangout Figure of the Month ended up taking a little longer than I had expected... Fiddly mini... He still needs a blast of clear coat, but otherwise? I'm calling him done! Except for that spot of touch up on the skull.. and maybe that ring finger... WiP here Lots more pics below the cut.

Here are some gnasty gnolls for your enjoyment! Tried to do some work on groups with an army/matching uniform look... ... And some highlighting on raised areas (the gnoll's left knee). The lighting isn't super great in these pictures (sorry!) but I promise you all they DO have spooky red eyes, as per the usual evil hunters. Next post will likely be a return some bigger minis (I just can't quit my demon lords!). Until then, take care of yourselves! -E.E.

I picked up my Orc Druid from e-bay, and he arrived already sort of painted. So into the paint stripper he went, and on the other side came out looking much better! And then tonight he got painted with brush on primer. For the most part he's a well sculpted mini, though there is a mold line running across the skull on the staff, and then down the staff and across his right hand. The other big on is on the underside of his left arm. The worst bit to get is between the straps on the back of the staff Talking tonight with the Knarthex, Dilvish, and CW about skin tones, I think I'm gonna try to match the blue I used for the Black Orcs from Bones 1.

So, a bunch of us have decided that we're going to work on the same figure every month on the Google Hangouts. The first one (that spawned the idea) is the old Chainmail Orc Druid. In the future, most of the figures chosen will probably be Reaper. I used part of my day off yesterday to find, and get caught up with, everyone else that's doing this. I decided to go with the stereotypical orcs=green paint scheme. I had 2 excellent reasons for this: 1) The green paint already happened to be out and open, 2) There's this skirmish game called 'Mordheim' where you control a warband that's looting a ruined city. In this game, there is the option to play an orc and goblin warband. I already have half of a warband painted; this guy will be joining the gang once he's done. Of course, I'll use him for other stuff, too. This is what I got done yesterday: reprimed, and basecoat for the skin and teeth.

So, For those of you not in the Know, some of the Google Hangout regulars decided that it would be a fun thing to pic the same mini, and all paint it over the course of the month... The idea was that we could bounce ideas off each other, as opinions, and discuss things about the mini, all in real time... We all thought that this guy, that Pezler mentioned, and that Dilvish, Chaoswolf and I knew we could get at a store on paint day, would be a fun simple, easy thing to do in between other serious projects.... He certainly ended up proving us wrong about that! But, he also showed us 'proof of concept' in that doing this kind of thing is very helpful, as we found so many things that made him a more complex sculpt than first appears... So here is mine, Finished last night.... WiP Here I noticed whilst taking the pics that I didn't re-trim the black edge of the base after adding in the Secret Weapon snow.... So considering the fact that I am the Instigator of this, it is only fitting that I post my work tonight.... (I almost forgot! Good thing the guys on the hangouts reminded me!) So he had the the mold line removed that runs up from his left foot, up his body and arm, across the wolf pelt's nosw, and the staff's skull, down the staff and his right hand fingers, and down the staff and it's accoutrements... Also on the inside of the wolf skin between his legs... The tab was cut off, and after drilling holes, pins were inserted in his legs. He was then primed with P3 White Primer from a rattle can with 3 light coats... and this is where he stands.... Not quite sure what I am going to do with him yet, I thought about doing the wolf skin in Technicolor, but I have already done that twice... I think that I am going to use the old Polly S Armor Dark Green for the mid tone on his skin though.... Maybe a Winter Wolf for the fur????? Hair will likely be the MSP Red Hair Triad.... And the item strapped to his back looks like a long twisted horn with feathers on it, Maybe a Rod / Staff / Wand / Fetish???? Thanks for looking! George Darn it! The mold line is still there on the skull on top of the staff!!!!!

So last Paint day at the Citadel in Groton CT, I picked up the OOP Chainmail Mini Orc Druid, because folks on the hangouts were talking about him... 88713 Orc Druid So I spoke to Dilvish, Chaoswolf, & Pezler, (and David Brawley), and most of us have him, (David has an Orc Champion) and we decided to have a Hangout Group Paint of this guy, for the Month of February. Now Dilvish still needs to get one, and the Citadel still has a few extra.... So if you have this figure, or a Chainmail or other Orc Spell Caster, Join in and paint with us! This is not a contest, or any type of pressure event, it is just something for a bunch of folks to do and talk about while we are hanging out.... So Join in if you like... Watch if you like! This is an old ChainMail Berserker that I got out of the melt bin at Reapercon. His weapon was broken, so I replaced it with a GW axe from my bits box. I almost painted him up with orange hair like a GW trollslayer, but I've actually got a few of those figures around, so I figured I'd save that paint scheme for them. I gave him a bunch of tribal style tattoos and followed the advice I got on my last tattoos and tried to blend them into the skin a little more. I think it looks better. Now, I just need to actually develop some artistic ability and my tattoos might actually start to look good.

So, since I was procrastinating on making my base for Rasia I decided to start prepping some more figures to paint. After see 72Moonglum paint up some old partha's I decided to work on another of mine. Here is stage one of my 3 stage elf collection: I then decided why not finaly paint up one of my Chainmail Elves. Also why not add a newer one to round out the generations, Reaper's Amiryth Elmlighter.

Dark Paints: D&D Ogre Mercenary Evil Ogres, this guy is BIG. I based him on a 40mm base initially (he's still standing on it!), but I found it to be waaaaay too small. I then put him on a 50mm base, and tried my Advanced Deployment arc marker tool, and I'm very happy with him. He's painted to Tabletop quality, and he'll be used as an Ogre Leader for Pathfinder, Song of Blades and Heroes monster, and possibly in Dragon Rampant as well. The shield was a take on the Thalos "water" shield and I'm happy with how it turned out. I don't believe he'll be working for Thalos anytime soon. C&C always welcome.
