  1. There's something about Chibi miniatures that makes me want to create fan art out of them. Fan art for many things- Kingdom Death, Siege of the Citadel, Final Fantasy, Borderlands- the list seems to go on and on. So it shouldn't come as a surprise when I want to create characters from one of my four year old's favorite book series- The Princess in Black. She's a princess who is secretly a super hero who fights monsters with her ninja skills (I really love these books) For those interested, here's what she looks like in the books:
  2. Super Chibi Round 2 - Reboot is now a go! We had to retool the KS and relaunch, this time, it's much better. So if you like Sci-FI and Chibi this is the place for you! Core Characters include Takata the Cynobi Assassin and Jaxx S.E.E.D. Special Forces Officer. New features in this Kickstarter: Lower Funding level ($1,250) Funding 2 miniatures instead of 4 New Caster New Ebook: Super Chibi Origins, contains 3 new short stories Hope to see you there! Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1946588239/super-chibi-round-2-reboot Natakue www.midknightheroes.com
  3. These are some trolls from Super Dungeon Explore (the Mistmourn Coast Warband). As with most of my own Super Dungeon set, I painted each one in its own color scheme. The yellow troll colors I chose because they match the trolls from Fantasy Forest. Fantasy Forest is an old TSR game I played when I was five- it is basically like Candy Land except that you get ambushed by orcs and kobolds along the way. The spawn point was just perfectly designed for an OSL effect, so I had to go that direction with it:
  4. Super Chibi Round 2 by MidKnight Heroes is now live on Kickstarter. This time, we have 4 new Sci-Fi/Modern Chibis to fund. We also have 4 new and cool stretch goals planned that fit in that theme as well. Stop by and take a look. A;so feel free to drop us a line with any question and we will get back to you asap. Kickstarter link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1946588239/super-chibi-round-2 So who are the characters we have planned this time? Takata: The Cynobi Assassin The rest of the characters are still in the sculpting phase and as soon as we get an update we will share. Jaxx, S.E.E.D. Special forces officer Me'Thule the robotic Knight And Busta the gun wielding DJ.
  5. Yup after that comment in one of my other WIP's I couldn't stop myself from starting a new WIP. I had this sitting on my queue for a bit now. Since I've been working on the Zombicide Walkers so much lately I had to try my hand at a different model of zombie. I decided on Bonesylvanian Barb. The eyes were my first step. After posting I realized what was bothering me about them. The light isn't in the same angle on both sides. Doh! Also all was going well with using the same colors as my other zombies, when I decided to drift from the previous method by adding a glaze to add color. I tried a dark blue glaze. While I think that works great for darkening green, not sure it worked so well for the face. Ah well, live and learn. Here is the result of tonight's foray:
  6. WIP of Prince Aaron. This makes at least 5 projects open on my WIP bench. I was trying to use the fair skin triad as a base to work from for his skin tones, but I'm really not happy with it. I may have to do more work on the face. Open to all helpful criticisms/comments. I am calling the cloth and eyes finished. Most of the other elements are still WIP (sword, shoulders, mail, boots, crown).
  7. Schmetterling WIP Two steps visible here. Original base coats of color with some shading and then working up with more highlights and finer details. I need to use a dedicated camera and lighting setup. Pretty sure my iphone camera has damage to the lens and the poor lighting is obscuring details. Sorry about that.
  8. Spike from Arcadia Quest. Shows progress from when I started painting these figures two years ago.
  9. Monkey King with color blocking and some dark-lining. The blue and red will be brought out brighter again with the plated armor on the front being lined out more clearly. A lot of details and work to be done on the hair and face.
  10. Hitch is now moving from color blocking into the full WIP phase. I've finished his face. Will need to paint the vest, blend hair, and probably refine the cloak a bit.
  11. Some miniatures represent a real challenge. They’re loaded with so much detail that you may need to find references to figure out what all of it is, and even then you can run into difficulties making each individual bit pop. Lining each piece, and making sure the colors coordinate while also keeping the value contrast high enough that each bit stands out just enough (and not too much) can be challenging and rewarding. Then there are minis like these Super Dungeon Explore’s ghosts. Somehow, I find myself absolutely loving these designs, despite their simplicity (I mean, we’ve got one area here, then the eyes). Naturally, I couldn’t resist painting them in Pac Man colors.
  12. Here is one of my favorite sets of minis, of all time. They're the Fungal Growth Spawn point for Super Dungeon Explore, and I based the color schemes on the various colors of mushroom monsters from the Dragon Quest series.
  13. Finally made some progress on my Koba miniature. Hair and skin with some other final touchups and this one will be done. Black bases for all of my AQ figures so far. When they are done, I may revisit the basing.
  14. I've only worked the reds on Smiley so far. I've got to work on his body and on his hood-cloak (?)
  15. I painted this one for my oldest stepdaughter, she's into synchronized swimming has like 23 swim certificates and I believe she's secretly part fish. Also she's a bit of a scrooge sometimes, so I added a Rustik Market's piece of resin treasure. Made the rock from Milliput. WIP is here http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/66314-mary-the-mermaid-by-xherman1964-or-underwater-greed/ Gave her a stripes inspired by the tigershark, but different because she's a mermaid. Hope you like her, she did!!!
  16. Completed Arcadia Quest miniatures. I'm hoping to have all of them done by the time the next kickstarter starts. You can find my WIP thread here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62384-arcadia-quest-wip/ First up: Diva I really like how the NMM Red came out on her. It was my first time doing non-gold/steel NMM. Getting the cape right was harder than I expected. I wanted to get a white-ish color with Pink/Rose tints. I ended up using Old West Rose for the shadows.
  17. I'm painting the Moon Princess from Sodapop's Ninja All stars for a model swap. I've made some subtle changes since these pictures were taken, but I'm struggling to visualize how to make the relatively flat surface of this model's hair into a convincing thin black hair as in the model's artwork. Any suggestions? Any critiques or comments overall?
  18. I wanted to paint Mary for my oldest stepdaughter, she is into synchronised swimming and I believe part fish. Since she is also a bit of a scrooge I added a bit of treasure. Off to the start, Sculpted a rock with millyput. There will be more to follow.
  19. To boost my figure count I painted up all my bat swarms, plus the chibi bats were just too cute to not paint up asap. Chibi familiar bats (Reaper 1548) Metal Bat Swarm (Reaper 3355) Example Bones Bat Swarm (Reaper 77046)
  20. Finally got some photos of my speed paints at Gen Con. As some of my fellow con goers already posted a few great speed paints you may know the rules. 45 minutes, limited paint and two brushes that are used and abused at the Con. Although this year and last you also get a brush from games and gears that you may use at each speed paint, but somehow I either lose it or leave it at the hotel and never remember to bring it back. Anyway here are my two which also will count for the RPChallenge. My Dark Sword speed paint Mab - Queen of the Fairies And a quick poorly lit photo of all the lovely ladies. And Impact's Chibi Gargoyle Each will stay as they are and be placed on my shelf with previous speed paints. Both surprisingly scored 2nd place but no final round for me as I was leaving too early on Sunday to attend. During both speed paints everyone painted quite well and produced some pretty minis in just 45 mins.
  21. For a chibi mini swap I've joined, I'll be preparing this Monkey Queen model. On my original Arcadia Quest pledge, the model came without her hair, so I was able to request and receive a replacement from CMON. This brings me to this mini swap where I can now make her hair and a display base to fit into the original packaging. My first step shown here was to create a thin wire armature for the hair and bulked it out for later texturing.
  22. Ok, time to attempt another WIP. As you can tell from the title I plan to paint up Bonesylvania Chibi Morty and Cal. Along the way I plan to paint up my remainder Bone 1 and Bones 2 skeletons. All these hopefully by the end of July. Where I stand with my Figures at the beginning of July. Morty: Cal: 1 of my 3 Bones 1 skeleton archers: My Bones 2 skeletons:
