  1. Yes, I finally managed to get another in my progress to finishing last year's Boneslyvanian Chibi's. I present Morty. Overall a simple paintjob, but I like how it turned out. Morty: Thanks for looking, and any C&C you feel like posting. PS:I really need to get my Boneslyvanian's based some day.
  2. EDIT: I've started a completed figure thread, which you can find here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62776-arcadia-quest/ I just started on my Arcadia Quest (CMoN) figures. I'm trying to match the art as much as possible. Critique most welcome! First up are Diva and Spike Progress: - base coat done - face mostly done (may do some touch ups - eyes Main ToDo: - NMM Gold on the sword - NMM Steel on the sword and belt buckle - NMM Red on Armor (yeah, lots of NMM on this one) - Cape - this will be much paler pink once I'm done. Progress: - base coat done - hair done - flesh mostly done - hands need some more touch up. This was my first free hand tattoo. Pretty pleased with it Main ToDos: - Clothes (including his braid scrunchy) - NMM Gold on the axe handle, cross bow handle, and one of the teeth - NMM Steel on the axe blade and arrow - Teeth - waiting on an order with some Ivory to wash those.
  3. This is my finished Kanga from the base set of Arcadia Quest.
  4. This is the other mini I entered in the Gencon painting contest. I was hoping to give his eyes a little bit of glow but I don't think I managed it. I was really running out of time with him. He did photograh well at least. He was much less of an elf than the minotaur.
  5. I present to you Cal, another Bonesylvanian from my attempt (slowly failing) attempt to get them all painted by the end of the year. He is a simple paint job that I finished faster than I expected. W/o further jabbering here is Cal: Thanks for looking and feel free to post any C&C you feel inspired to give.
  6. I present to you Gil. My next installment in Bonesylnanian Halloween Chibi's. Also an experiment in cool highlights and warm shadows. Thanks in advance for and C&C you feel inspired to give.
  7. Here is one of my RCon 15 entries, Lon the Chibi Werewolf. Normally I don't go this extreme with base. But I had an idea and had to go with it. Thanks for any C&C you feel inspired to post. For those attending RCon '15, I hope to see you there.
  8. I really love the Bonesylvanians. After taking Derek Schubert's "Monochrome Painting" class at the Reaper Artist Conference last October, I was really excited to try my hand at it. [side note: Check out the miniatures he used for the class demos (and later finished up) in Derek's forum post here. Give it a shot, it's something everyone should try at least once!] I won't claim that I painted Gus using only black and white-- I added a bit of blue too! I painted him using only Ghost White (of course), Snow Shadow, and Blue Liner. The only exceptions to this are his eyes = Brilliant Blue and his tooth = Pure White. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. I found that painting white can be a real challenge and that painting monochrome is leading me into some interesting future painting studies in values and textures! 9. So here's a pleasant little chibi elder god that I got painted up a little while ago. I decided to open his eyes a little (elder gods don't always have to sleep, right?)
  10. These guys were actually a lot of fun to paint up. With the new version of the game out I am very excited to get painting all the rest of the core box and move on to the forgotten king and all the heroes. Looking forward to the single player mode as I seem to have a few issues finding players around here. Enjoy the pics and if you have any advice on anything let me know. Thanks!
  11. I am calling this one done. I have repainted enough parts of this one that I am leaving well enough alone. This is my first time painting one of the Impact Miniatures chibi models and I am happy with how it turned out. Thanks to everyone who gave suggestions for colors and improvements in the WIP thread.
  12. Getting started a little late this month on my resolutionary challege figures due to illness and a vacation. So because of that I am going to try to do what I think will be be easier minis. First up is the Chibi Wizard from Impact miniatures. I was a little nervous about the paint sticking after hear some of the stories about the resin that Impact uses. I cleaned it with Dawn dish soap and thankfully I didn't run into any issues. I want to break out of my usual blue/grey/white color schemes that I tend to use for wizards so I am going with green robes. Still haven't decided on a good accent/cape color...maybe a yellow or white...meh. Colors used so far: Robe - 09015 - Jade Green Skin - 09091-09093 - Golden Skin triad Eyes - 09039 - Pure White, 61113 - Arthurian Blue, 09288 - LED Blue Any C&C is appreciated, especially accent color suggestions
  13. Well after playing with a bunch of soaps and primers, I had a number of the new Impact ponies primed and ready to go. And since they are relatively fun to paint, once again my WoK minis got pushed back by another kickstarter (this is why they are supposed to come in at different months...) Anyway, to review for those who missed it in the kickstarter forum: In an effort to get a smooth coat of paint on these minis that will actually stay put, I have tried a number of detergents to remove the mold release and a number of primers to get one that will actually grab the resin and hang on. summarizing my work: washing the miniatures is required for anything to stick, and I have used Dawn dish soap with success. (our "natural" dish soap didn't have much luck getting the mold release off.) 1) paint on primers don't work. I have tried reaper and GW 2) Acrylic primers don't stick (I have tried Rustoleum and Krylon for plastic) 3) Krylon primer for metal and plastic works 4) Rustoleum self etching primer works I have not tried the paint and primer combo cans because I like the tooth on the pure primers. (you're on your own there ) The first 2 will pull away and bead up on the mini. You can force them to make a smooth coat by repeated applications but it will be like a skin on the miniature that you can literally peel off in sheets later. With all of that said, here is my first of the new Impact miniatures ponies kickstarter, and one of the cutest! Comments and Critique is always welcome.
  14. I am making a WIP post on this guy late in the game. I have mostly detail work such as a burning hammer effect and his eyes to complete. I think I also have a couple more layers of skintones to highlight up. Comments and suggestions welcome. There are two in the game and his "brother" is painted along the same general scheme with green as the accent color instead of red to make them easy to distinguish on the tabletop.
  15. Here is Seth from Arcadia Quest. I really like the characters from the game and Seth is one I usually pick. I tried to follow the artwork from the game as much as possible with this. I think it translated pretty well. If I did it over again, I would probably go a little darker with the skin tone. I am really happy with how the spell and hair turned out. Any C&C is appreciated.
  16. I wasn't great about taking a bunch of pics along the way so far, but here are what I have: Both minis got a soap bath with warm water, Dawn dish soap, and a good scrub with a toothbrush. Once dry, I primed the pony with Reaper's Brush on Primer - which I had to scrub off with soap and reprime three or four times before it would not bead up. Then they both got a coat of Brown Liner: As you can see, I picked out a 30mm base for the pony. I haven't dug through my bases yet for the bull. I then hit them with a blotchy coat of Ancient Bronze, then Lava Orange, and then Bloodstain Red.
  17. My next installment in my monthly Reaper Chibi, Gus. He was an experiment slightly mono-chromatic. I used various shades of blues in all but the highest white. Thanks for viewing and any C&C.
  18. Over halfway through the month and I decided I needed to start my next reaper Halloween chibi. So random draw at the start of the month was Gus. I had him all prepped up over the month. So I started him up today. Base coat of RMS Ghost White. Not original I know, but I wanted to go blue. So I shaded down with 3 layer of a mix of ghost white and sapphire blue. After that I blended back in some ghost white. Then I highlighted up with Pure White. I then base coated the chains with a mix of cloudy grey and sapphire blue. Here is what I wound up with after all that.
  19. Another day another chibi. I bought a number of these at Gencon and I have been working on them to make room for the Impact ponyfinder kickstarter. And hopefully figure out how to make the paint stick. This attempt was using dullcote as a coating to allow the paint to have something to grab on to. this failed miserably. Apparently even dullcote has a hard time sticking to the dark grey resin Impact uses. the dullcote peeled off in sheets. had to wash it again, scrub the dullcote off and lightly sand the areas that wouldn't let paint adhere. And then the paint cracked in some of those areas. All said and done for as many mishaps as this little beastie had, he came out pretty nice. hes a little dragon so he guards a little pile of coins courtesy of Basius C&C always welcome Next try is to scrub hard with dawn dish detergent and a toothbrush and see what happens.
  20. the second of my resolution paintings for this year and (once you get the base coat to stick) a really fun mini to paint. This is another of the chibi dragons from Impact miniatures. this is the "blue" version. The eyes I am not overly happy with. i still need work on my overlays when it comes to adding depth to eyes. Sorry for the camera lighting, me and by little cannon are having issues again. I need a camera that lets me control the shutter speed! With that, here is the mini. I hope you enjoy him. I enjoyed doing the eyes and the "I'm cute, don't hurt me" pose is interesting on a dragon. C&C welcome as always!
  21. I finally got around to finishing up the last of my Bonesylvanians. My wife has been trying to get me to finish this one so we can display it for a week and then finally put all the halloween figures away. I kept putting this one off because of all the individual cloth strips. Any C&C is welcome.
  22. Some of my works in progress on Arcadia Quest minis. I think I saw a detailed tutorial some time ago on chibi eyes on the reaper forums, but I can't find it now. I am considering doing freckles on the Scarlet model, any suggestions? Kanga - Currently skintones and eyes finished. I'm wanting to keep the tones of the cloth muted to keep the skintones as a high point. Johan - - Base and touch up work Scarlet - Base and touch up work. Considering adding freckles to the face, but can't find good examples or any tutorials yet. Maya - Detail and base work remains. I can notice that there is supposed to be a garter of some type on the leg in this picture Diva - I want to work up to a gold NMM armor in yellow portions. Not sure what the emblem in the middle is "supposed" to be. Hair, eyes, face, silver armor, and cloth are mostly finished - might have some touch ups.
  23. Well, here is a mini I painted just for fun to give me a break from the LTPK3 NMM figures I was working on. I attempted to give him glowing eyes and NMM for the buttons. I had fun painting him up. Thanks for viewing and any C&C you feel like giving. Edit to remove spacing I had it for some reason.
  24. Well I have 12 Reaper Chibi so I decided that I will attempt to paint 1 a month this year. My random draw for january, Jack Pumpkinhead, He is primed and his head base coated photo'd with my cellphone.
  25. This one was just too cute not to paint, although I certainly waited long enough. I picked him up in Gencon and he has been staring at me waiting for some paint. I like the eyes but after the photos I think I may need a little additional cleanup on them around the edges. One thing i will note with all the Impact minis: the resin they have likes to refuse paint, both normal and primer. It beads up with the least provocation. and this is after 2 scrubbings with dish soap and warm water followed by a warm and cool rinse. even when a good coat is achieved it is very fragile and can be easily chipped. If anyone has suggestions to getting paint or primer to bond better I would love to hear it. I don't have this problem with resin from Darksword, Reaper, or Stonehaven, and I don't see it on Bones unless I don't wash them first. Anyway, enjoy! Hope you find her as cute as I did. comments always welcome!
