I was lucky enough to trade one of my extra Bones Black Owlbears for Garghuk. I am glad I traded because I love this mini! He was great to paint and I can't wait to get him on the table to thump some adventurers!

I restarted this fellow. I originally started him not long after Bones came out but only to glue him to a base and have him leaning against a rock I found while on vacation. When I finish with him I plan to have him looking weary and beat. He is frequently a main bad guy during gaming sessions so it is time to put some paint on him. Here he is lined with Reaper Coal Black and his skin coated with Redstone Shadow. Enjoy and Stay Tuned.

This is the only mini I got to work on last week. I like that there is a lot of fun detail in the mini, but there were lots lof little pock marks --- the left chest was particularly bad. Most of that his hidden by his shield. I haven't sealed him yet; I hope he looks a little smoother after I do. I think I overdid the highlighting on the blue straps on his shins and feet; I wanted the strappy texture to stand out. I'm pretty happy with how the shield turned out; both front and back. The shield was the first time I had to glue a mini together. Can you tell how messy I was with the super glue? I ended up using a lot, because the shield was supposed to have two nubs to fit into holes in the straps for gluing, but one of the nubs was missing. I'm not at the point of being comfortable with pinning or anything yet. I like the skulls and the monster head in the bad. I think it came out pretty good. Thanks for looking! Any comments are appreciated!

ETA: dwarvenranger informs me this guy would be better served as an ogre/duergar and I completely agree. Just wish I could change the title/tags now So, I bought this guy to participate in the WIP group thread, but slowly realized that not painting him was driving me insane, so I'll be getting another one today to work (and properly record progress on) on tomorrow with my girlfriend. Anyway, here he is! (I finally got the photographing aspect of posting a bit more sorted. It's still a bit blurry, but much better than my earlier pics) The base is made of my classic wooden disks, spray painted matte black. I then attached the ogre, and placed my "stones" behind him in, what I hope, is an interesting way. I laid down a coat of watered down Elmer's glue, and put down cinnamon mixed with Jamaican Jerk Spice Rub (it's what those little gravelly stones are). The plant in front has little red dots on the tips to signify flowers, but the plant itself is made of freeze-dried dill! The skull is a dungeon decoration from my old Hero Quest set. The large stones themselves are made of chunks of dry-wall with the paper removed. I then sealed them with dullcote, painted them black, dry-brushed light grey on them, and they spritzed a mist of silver spray paint on them. In the light, they look just like granite! I love using household materials for basing!
