  1. Time was a little short to get this done before Christmas, but he is as done as he will get before tomorrow.
  2. My in-laws have a tradition of passing off a joke gift to all the male adults. Someone (it's forgotten who originally was gifted with the slippers) got a pair of knitted size 14 (my in-laws are all over 6'5, I'm the short one at 6'2) slippers in white, orange and green wool. They are ugly. This person then added a small change, like a patch, to each slipper and re-gifted it. The tradition continues. There's one more person I can give these to before it becomes a random (or someone else marries into the family). I'm adding a few quickly painted bones orcs. I would do different ones (because I
  3. I have painted up the Nativity Set as a gift for my girlfriend's parents. They will get it close to the holidays. I added the sheperd with sheep, the donkey and a cow. All Reaper miniatures: https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/nativity/latest/01430 https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/nativity/latest/01433 https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/nativity/latest/01439 https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/cow/sku-down/03719 I put the whole set under a dome. And made some barn soil with putty. WIP here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69198-
  4. It's time to start looking at working on my Nativity if there's to be any hope of getting it done by Christmas 2016. (And if I can't get it done then I need to find another gift idea for my mom.) I've looked at a lot of other examples and I've got some ideas but I need to formulate a definite plan. The goal is to make a series of three dioramas: angel, shepherds and sheep; wise men with camel; Mary, Joseph, Jesus and stable. The idea is that then they can easily be arranged in different configurations with reduced risk of damage. (If there are 10 little people somewhere then guarante
  5. I want to give my girlfriend's parents a little gift this X-mas ( well a bit before that). So I decided to make a little vignette of the Nativity Set. I found this nice dome for 5 euros.. I had to skip the idea of the three Kings. But my girl explained to me that they visited later, so it wouldn't be a problem to just use the Nativity set itself, a sheperd and a few animals. Else it would get too crowded on the little wooden plate. The Donkey and Oxen are supposed to keep Baby Jesus warm with their breath. So that's why they stand so cl
  6. Some of you may remember that last week I posted the result of an experiment I did to see if I cold paint one of the Pathfinder Goblin Pyros to make it look like a convincing Christmas Elf, to go with my Santa-themed Enchanter warband for Frostgrave: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/68561-pathfinder-goblin-pyro-as-santas-elf-89002-bones/ Well, I liked the results so much that this past week I was able to finish up the rest of the Elves I needed for my warband, and I'm happy with the results. They will represent four Thief-class soldiers Santa will use to help him gather treasure
  7. This week I experimented with painting up one of the Pathfinder Goblin Pyros to see how it would look painted up as one of Santa's Elves for my Santa-themed Enchanter warband for Frostgrave. I had planned a while back that I wanted to use Christmas elves to represent the four Thieves I had added to my Santa the Enchanter's warband; and had originally prepped four of the Victory Force Miniatures, Unarmed Christmas Elves to use in this role. Then forum-member Pippin suggested over on my Christmas Eve as Mrs Claus post that I possibly use Goblins to represnt Santa's elves. The idea buzz
  8. This week I worked some more on my Christmas-themed Enchanter warband for Frostgrave, by painting the Special Edition figure, "Christmas Eve" to be the warband's apprentice, Mrs Claus. This is the third figure I've completed for this warband. I've painted Santa as the Enchanter wizard, and Yukon Cornelius as the group's Treasure Hunter. Here's a portrait of the Santa and Mrs Claus side by side. I think they go together pretty well. I like that he's all fierce and disheveled looking, and she's all serene and tidy. :)
  9. Late last year, I decided I wanted to do a Santa themed Frostgrave warband after completing a vary Santa-like wizard figure, which you can see here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/66121-darkrasp-evil-priest-77151-to-santa-claus-conversion/ While I have slowly been collecting the figures I wanted to use as the soldiers for this warband for a while now, I finally started painting them this past week. The first I painted up is Yukon Cornelius, Treasure Hunter. Yukon Cornelius is a character from the classic stop-motion children's Christmas TV special, Rudoph the Red Nosed Rein
  10. I finally got my light box put back up. Here are the photos I took of the awesome 2002 Christmas Sophie that Miss Melons sent me for Secret Sophie:
  11. This is the miniature I painted for SGHawkins09 for the Secret Sophie '15 Miniature Exchange. She requested Christmas colors, so I obliged. Conveniently, the same colors as my Koldun Lord. I gave her a decorative base, which started out with some bark someone gave me at ReaperCon, but I think my attempts to put snow and gravel on it made it worse than just the bark painted up as rocks. Not my best face (and of course the super-closeup makes it look worse)... all my army painting recently made it a bit difficult to get back into the groove of painting as nicely as possible.
  12. This was a tabletop job for one of my PFS characters Kristoff Kringle and his animal companion Blitzen. Santa is Enigma Miniatures "Bad Santa" model and Blitzen is a D&D Wolf from the Castle Ravenloft board game with the bow from Reaper 89033 glued to his head... Character Background: The door to the lodge slams open loudly. The cold wind blows in violently carrying with it a peculiar stench. You see a shoddy looking dwarf holding a unique looking staff and dragging a large sack behind him. "You 'em Pathfinders?" He asks rhetorically; "Me name's Kristoff Kringle [150311-4]. Me
  13. I had originally wanted to paint this up as a Christmas present for my mother, but the hectic run-up to the holidays meant that I didn't get it done until about the 29th. He is quite possibly my favourite mini that I've painted so far, I'm very happy with how he turned out. The sack full of presents was a bit on the tedious side though, I had so many colours on my palette by the end of it. Comments and critiques welcome!
  14. This model is nicknamed "Bad Santa" by Warmachine players, I think because of his appearance and since traditional Khador colors are red, white and gray. As I painted him, I kept imagining him saying "Ho ho ho, who's been a good warjack this year?," as he has an ability to give a present (a point of Focus) to a warjack. So I decided to double-down on the Christmas theme and pull out my MSP Christmas Wreath and a slightly darker red than normal for Khador (MSP Big Top Red) for the primary colors on him. He actually came out a bit nicer-looking than I had planned on.
  15. Dragon from 02399 Familiar Pack II by Sandra Garrity and Bear from Christmas Familiars.
  16. Finally finished this. The OSL isn't quite as stark in person and the shadows are darker; that's an artifact of the flash from the camera.
  17. Merry Christmas everyone! I managed to get Santa finished today. I plan eventually to make a diorama with him and the naughty and nice elves. While I like the reds of his suit, I tried to go from mid tone down and up on the bag. I didn't turn out nearly as well as I liked. But over all I like how he cam out.
  18. Going to finish up his medallion with some free hand and call it done. Hope all of you have a lovely Christmas Maybe Santa will get me some photography skills next year ;)
  19. http://www.theguardian.com/culture/2015/dec/21/how-we-made-the-muppet-christmas-carol One of my favorite seasonal movies, and one of the best Muppet shows of the post-Jim years.
  20. This resin beauty was on sale for only three bucks during CMON's BF sale. As I paint slowly (<1hr day) and Reaper's holiday minis didn't go on sale till the 7th, I figured this would be my Santa dwarf I paint up this year as the Reaper ones won't get here in time. Day One... Partially assembled (axe head isn't glued on yet), and partially basecoated. Nothing fancy...
  21. My entry for this year's Christmas contest at one of the FLGS's. 'E's makin' a list, e's checkin' it twice. 'E's gonna find out who's orky or nice, Santa Klawz is comin' to town. 'E knows just when yer lootin'. 'E knows when you're a flake. 'E knows if you follow gork or mork, So be brutal for cunning's sake. Oh, you better watch out, you better not whine, 'E'll punch out yer snout, he'll rip out yer spine. Santa Klawz is comin' to town! Santa
  22. As christmas comes closer, I was then wondering if it would be possible to buy two boxes of random miniatures worth $35 each, incl shipping? I've been browsing through miniatures to buy for myself for christmas, and began pondering about how much more fun it would be if I had no idea what I got before opening them at christmas!
  23. I feel very appreciated this Christmas. The girlfriend and I both approached Christmas morning in a sweaty uncertainty. Apparently, we'd both THOUGHT we'd gotten each other things that the other would really like... but there was that sense of "what if I'm completely wrong about this?" floating in the background. Among the items I'd done for her was a limited edition Sandra Garrity piece... I forget what it's called, but it's a cutesy dragon, hugging a bug-eyed knight to the point of strangulation... "I will love him and squeeze him and call him St. George!" I found it at the adoption table
  24. Merry Christmas, everyone! I painted up my Sophie Christmas Ornament and had an absolute blast (the positioning of the "2014" is my only truly heartfelt regret). Hope your day is great, whatever you're doing.
