SO.... Due to Brain Weasels and other Real Life Issues, I haven't been doing much, really almost no, fantasy painting... One of the things I have been doing is looking at old WIPs, and suddenly the desire to paint a DRAGON, came over me.... So here is the start of my new work on Cinder, #10014, in METAL... Hopefully, I can keep up the sudden burst of enthusiasm.... So planning on mold line hunting, and trying to decide what color to paint this dragon... As I am old school, the webbing between the back spines is leading me to green, but need to check the books to see which way to go.... About time you returned from the place I couldn't reach you minion...... OMG, please not again.... any and all comments gratefully ignored.... Knarthex

Hi all, Crazy idea that has been floating around my noggin for months now is finally starting to come together. Never done anything like this before so we'll see where this leads. Cinder, with gaps filled with green stuff. Her legs are a little bent so I can't quite attach her to her base so I'll use the terrain and pin her where she needs to be. Cinder, 2 hatchlings, some quail eggs and tree bark (rocks) for some of the landscaping. Plan is to have to eggs sitting on a pile of treasure. Going to hit Michael's to see if I can find a suitable base for it otherwise I'll be using cutting something out of some MDF for the base. I had thought to make this "tiered" and have an adventurer climbing up in search of the treasure but I decided to reign myself in as it's my first diorama attempt. Thanks for looking.

So my wife finished painting a second dragon. She is really starting to enjoy painting the miniatures and is looking forward to the Bones 4 next year. Trying to decide what miniatures to hold her over till next year. I've only got a handful left, Diabolus the Devil Dragon(which I plan to paint) and about 5 other miniatures

Something I haven't done on the forum before is actually do a WIP that shows me working through the stages on a model. So, to hopefully get my advice and motivation, I will document my progress on Cinder. As I am normally focused mostly on table-top quality, and rushing through things, this will be a big change for me. Any advice or criticism appreciated. Today I have the first layers done. I am going more for a black and purple dragon (think Disney's Sleeping Beauty). The scales will be highlighted with dark purples to still read black but be unified, while the belly and wing membranes will be purple. The first base coat of black/purple has been laid down but my poor photography and really subtle transition are lost in the photos.

when I finally got around to priming cinder I realized I was stuck in a chromatic dragon rut. red, green, black, blue, and white, blah, blah, blah. I asked for advice in that forum and someone suggested that I do it in the maleficent black and purple from the animated sleeping beauty. it sounded like a great idea. and I sat down and found the colors I thought I might like to start out with. pure black, and daemonette hide. sun yellow for the inner mouth and eyes. I plan to was black ink into the skin and scales to cover up any missed white spots. I will wash druchi violet on the inner wing membrane and under scales. the back of the wings will get a coat of nuln oil to darken them and blend the purple and black. here it is them base colors applied. suggestions welcomed. I checked the other forum and it was TGP and Ludo that talked me into this. I feel they should get the blame, ah I mean credit for this. ah yeah credit that's what I meant .

A model I am very proud of... My first full size Dragon! The lovely Cinder is dressed today as a green dragon with identity issues -- she thinks she is the reincarnation of a legendary black dragon. Hence, large parts of her are a deep green-black rather than the more traditional colors. Hopefully my players will be as confused about her true colors as she is. 😈 Without further ado, here she is being unceremoniously grappled by Mr. AutmnHare Her majestic backside: Modeling Head Shot: (Is my left side or right side my better side??) And her lovely underwing (how risqué, Ms Cinder!) So this took me most of April since I had to paint each of her scales 4 times, then those huge wings, then all those spines all the way down her back. BUT, I proved to myself that I do have the patience to paint a mini this big without resorting to "just dry brush it."*. She still needs a base, and soon, but I am no where close to done with it. I will need to pin either her ankles or tail (preferably) so she doesn't droop, but I haven't been able to sculpt satisfactory books to stack around her base, and serve as a pinning location. (She's a scholarly dragon, you see...) Autumn * I resorted to this method about 1/16 th of the way through Kaladrax, about the time I went to put on the second coat of paint on all those vertebrae. Fortunately, as an undead dragon, Kally looks pretty good with mostly dry brushing. I want to do better for my living dragons.

Speedpainting these two to try and get them done and given to the friend they belong to before we move.

I painted my Cinder dragon a few months ago. Recently I realized that he's leaning over much more than he was before. Those heavy wings are pulling him down. Anyone have this problem and fix it creatively?

A few days ago, I got to clean up and glue up my copy of Cinder. Very few mold lines that were easily taken care of with my Exacto knife (side note: I have been very happy with the quality of Bones 2 minis so far). I used a little Tamiya Putty White to fill the gaps, and since then, I have based him with a dark blue grey. Plan is to go with a fairly classic Blue scheme for the colors.
