Hello All, Here is a 30010 Bones USA "Berg Ironthorn, Dwarf Crossbowman" I completed last January. Thank you for looking.

So here's another from the last year. I was unmotivated at first because the facial detail was a bit lacking but I like the way it turned out.

More vintage minis from my childhood. Been soaking a dozen or so in isopropyl for about a week to get the 40 yr old enamel paint off them. With much scrubbing some of them came out pretty clean! Will post as they come along, here's one of my all-time favorites. I remember when I bought him in a little attic hobby shop in Ithaca, NY. Unfortunately I don't remember the packaging. Such a stoic little dude...any ideas?

Presenting Ballista, a Captain of the Engineers Guild team in the game of Guildball. A former siege engine designer and the father of robotics, his refusal to play Guild politics saw him fall out of favour and lose his Captaincy to Pin-Vice. Had a lot of fun painting this one, even if he came rather close to being over-detailed even for me. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

Presenting Inquisitor Greyfax from Warhammer40k (I'm not quite sure what faction she's part of). My version is a righteous fanatic who travels from world to world, confronting the forces of darkness and passing judgement on those foolish enough to play a part in its machinations. She makes a powerful but untrusted ally for my Space Adventurers. Had a lot of fun painting this one, although she was very time consuming (kept having to go back and fix stray brush-marks). Best of all, I finally managed to pull off a colour-coded power gauge, woohoo! As always, any comments of criticisms are warmly received.

Presenting a Dwarf Engineer from Stonehaven, having recently backed their second Dwarf kickstarter, I thought I'd better finish what I got from their first many moons ago. This one is a bit rough around the edges, I didn't put much effort into prepping my minis in ye olden days, plus he's been partially painted and stripped at least a couple of times by this point, but I think he turned out okay. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

I finished my Damaris Walmund, Duskwarden, yesterday. I painted her to look Elf-like, since she will be joining my Ghost Archipelago all-Elf crew in the role of a Hunter. I'm really pleased with this one; it's about as good as I can manage. The jacket is Folk Art Color Shift paint, which turned out pretty neat as a pearly metallic, but I don't see much color shifting in it. I tried for a strawberry blond on the hair, but it ended up going more pinkish; not that that's a bad thing. Her face was a challenge, particularly the way the vest collar partially obscures part of the mouth and the hair partially overhangs the eyes. For some reason painting parts of things is harder than painting the whole... And I noticed in the photos that here's a little bleb of dark paint over her left eye. Oh, well, consider it a birthmark, as I am not going back in and repairing it at this point and risk messing up the whole thing! On the base, I attempted to blend her integral cobbled base into a grassy surrounding by adding some loose cobbles around it, cut from a bit of Bones sprue, as if it was part of some ruined floor for path and slowly breaking apart.

Hello all, just finished another Ral Partha Hackmaster figure, this time a male dwarf thief, dagger in one hand and crossbow in the other. It's another figure sculpted by the prolific Jim Johnson back in about 2003. For this one, I wanted darker colors, but really the hardest part on him was deciding the line at the edges of his leather jerkin. I had considered red and gold, but then for some reason purple ended up being the color I went with. Enjoy!

Okay so I dug around in the drawer and pulled out six unpainted bones that I got in my batch that I bought. I gave them all a thorough scrub with a brush and warm soapy water and a toothbrush. The ogre needed straightening up so I poured hot water over to readjust and then under cold to set. I attached all six using superglue to fender washer bases. I got this tip on you tube and have been sticking to it since I started this process. They are running out so I will look for an alternative afterwards. But these are good and solid and make a good base. So now I have to decide which figure to work on.... I have not primed any and up until now I have primed using "151" matt black spray paint. I did not know exactly what to use so I tried this when I began. I did pick up slightly after the photo and start to apply some blue to the Anhurian soldier using the same blue I mixed for a figure I was painting late last night. But without primer it did not seem to want to settle very well. The two figures I have seen painted are by Doctor Faust ; the hell hound and the ogre. Any comments/suggestions or generally helpful advice is gratefully welcomed.

So here are two more dwarves from Ral Partha's old Fantasy Collectors Series that will eventually be in the next Ral Partha Kickstarter, hopefully coming out sometime this month. A crossbowman and a spearman, nice little figures. Like the last ones I did, they are really pretty small. The square bases they find themselves upon are 20 mm bases.

My last one was REALLY pink. This one is a little more realistic..

I call him Hampton. He grabs his hat whenever he makes a kill.

This week I completed the Town Guard (Anhurian) Crossbowman from the Bones II, Expansion 2 "Town Guard" set. I did a nice simple tabletop paint job on him, and it's probably no surprise that I based him up to use in Frostgrave. As always C & C welcome.

I painted my first "Bailey Silverbell" Reaper miniature in 2012. I painted another version in between projects over the last few months and gave her a Little Red Riding Hood theme. I loved this Reaper mini back then and I still love it now-- only this time I was able to try my hand at a few more techniques I've learned, including some NMM. If you haven't painted a "then & now" miniature, I hope you try it sometime. It's truly rewarding to see your improvement over the years!

So I finally got around to painting my first bones mini! Decided I'd get this guy and paint him up like a battered old warforged, as I just love those tin cans. Can't say the material was much different than metal to paint after I primed him, just the weird sensation of him weighing nothing in my hand. His paint turned out a bit bluer than I'd envisioned, I wanted a hint more green in there for a more turquoise look, but I'm happy with how it turned out. Also my first time trying some OSL, I think I could have gone brighter on the shade, and slightly thinner in places (I was using around a 10:1 mix). I also thought his left arm looked a little barren, so he I gave him an integrated forearm crossbow that I scavenged from a friends bits box. I haven't done anything with the base as I intend to cut him off of it and replace it with a 25mm one, but I have something special in mind for it, and I'm now waiting on a piece for a couple of weeks. So he's done for now and I'm reasonably happy with him.

Here is one of the crossbowmen for my Warband. He was a lot of fun to paint. This was the first one I tried using sealers in between washes/layers. I am really happy with how he came out. Bloodmane Crossbowman - (Yet to be named) CAH

Primed, and a messy black wash job so I can see what I'm doing. And admire my handiwork. Some basecoating in MSP Denim Blue, and Testors Silver enamel. I love Testors's enamel copper and silver, they're like dipping into liquid metal. Their other metallics, though, seem much more roughly ground. Also known as "If I screw this up there is no one to blame but myself." Was considering copper + green color scheme, but I think I'll go for silver-blue-gold. Copper might come back on the crossbow, we'll see.

Inspired by the January Bones Little People Beauty Pageant, I pulled out some of my metal hobbits and painted them up as well. This is Elia Shadowfeet, Female Halfling Thief. I discovered I also had an earlier incarnation of Elia, much more old-school in style but sculpted, as this one was, by Sandra Garrity. I do like the more modern approach in this figure. She's pretty tall for a halfling, reasonably armored, and packed for a serious expedition. Looking at some of the other paint jobs, like Derek Schubert's stunning version in Reaper's online store, I am struck by how soft mine look. The colors kind of melt into each other and are sometimes ambiguous as to what they are and where they go. This is also almost my first attempt in 20 years to paint a blonde mini (this was the first, and only by a few hours). I do try to make use of the broccoli bases. This one maybe looks a little more tarry than I intended.

Here's a fellow I rescued from an Ebay lot. Had to get help here identifying him. He is apparently from the old Asgard line, now put out by Viking Forge. Or something to that effect. Unfortunately don't know the sculptor. Anyway, he's totes my favorite guy ever, pretty much. I've come to think of him as my version of the Scarlet Pimpernel. Though he's not even scarlet. But yeah. Also discovered with this mini that the Ginger Cookie paint from Christmastime makes a great sandy hair color. Thanks for looking!

Really like how he turned out, it was one of those sculpts that's very easy on my 'colouring-in' painting style, though I really do need to work on my photo skills. Comments and criticisms are, as always, most welcome.

I should be working on my more time sensitive projects, but I can't resist the siren call of starting another Kingdom Death mini, the Rogue:- At the moment he's merely been cleaned, assembled and primed. Tomorrow comes the fun of deciding what colours to assign to his many layers of clothing. I've made a start to his base too:- That fern on the side looks way too much like an ear.

Cecilia, the Hefty Halfling is a D&D bard/fighter character I am currently playing. She once got the party into a fight with killer mushrooms when she tried to collect them for a stew. And when the battle was over, she still made her stew. This is a Bones figure, with minimal prep. I didn't use any primer, but I did glue her to a gaming base, and extended the base she came with into more rock and dirt using green stuff. I missed a mold line or two, but otherwise, she's not too bad. The surface was not as smooth as polished and primed metal, but for a tabletop mini, that's ok. My friend bought the Vampire Level Bones Kickstarter set, and I'm on deck to paint all the minis for our PCs, so I'm not putting in a lot of time on each one. This one took me 4 hours, including prep. I was lazy about planning a palette, and stole it from a Reaper Paint Crew paint job of another figure. Bonus points if you can identify which one! (The Paint Crew job is much better than mine, especially since this is speed paint.)

Hey all! Second post in a night. Whoo! Okay, well Vanja was my first mini ever, and I've decided I'd like to post my 2nd and 3rd attempts at mini-painting. These are both non-reaper, to my knowledge. They were purchased from the $1 "Box of Misfit Minis" from my local comic store, so I decided to rescue them in an attempt to give them new life. As I mentioned in my previous topic, I use Amsterdam acrylics (red, yellow, blue, black, white) and mix them. I also have a few metallic craft paints that I use as well (and in the case of the blue dude, I used a bit of nail polish, too.) As always, critiques are welcome! EDIT: I've been informed that the first mini is a Beastman of Chaos from Games Workshop and the dwarf is RAFM. Not sure how to edit tags at this point, but once I do, the info will be updated.
