Before the known ages, the ancient gods, who were traveling through time and space, between galaxies and systems, between planets and moons, finally reached this small blue planet and its light gray moon. Millions of years ago, searching for the force on the dark side of this moon, they found the crystals that emitted enormous energy. They took it with them and returned to the blue planet. With the use of the power from other dimensions they try to warp the crystal and use it for their own dark plans. It quickly turned out that the crystal emitted too much power, a power that did not harmonize with the forces of the Ancient One. The symbiosis caused conflict and damage to the ancients. The warped crystal had been abandoned by them here... and for millions of years, it had lain, covered by layers of earth and sand in the darkness and silence... Hi. We plan to put it together in a board-battle game! But let's take small steps and start gently. I was a little surprised to not see this already here. I just got a 48 hour notification on a game called "Lurkers of the Deep" - it's apparently an expansion to a miniatures game, but in addition to the game they're also selling a bunch of 20s/30s pulp/cthulhu style minis. (And a number of buildings, too.) I'm not interested in the game, but I put down a 30 pound pledge to get a bunch of the figures and get the various free stretch goals figures. There's only another 46 or so hours left, so I guess that means it ends early on March 1st. http://kck.st/3tbALxp is the link.

Here's my version of Reaper's Dark Young for all you Cthulhu fans out there, though for me it is a Portal of Despair from my Swampstalkers army :)

As has been a theme this year, the minis I manage to paint will all count towards the resolutionary challenge. As per the resolutionary painting challenge guidelines, I will post them here, and link in my post in the challenge thread. This month I am doing some horribly horrid horrors. Once upon a time I bought some monster miniatures in metal for Call of Cthulhu, made by RAFM. For some reason or other, I only ever got around to building and painting two or three of them. Well, I think I know why. They are in really hard metal, have horrible mould lines, and to top it off, the parts do not fit very well. To get them all well and proper, power tools and prodigous amounts of filling (and filing!) are required. Basically a real pain to prepare for painting. Needless to say, I recently rediscovered them in the ancient box of wonders under the stairs. Here is the Shoggoth: "It was a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway train - a shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front that bore down upon us, crushing the frantic penguins and slithering over the glistening floor that it and its kind had swept so evilly free of all litter." from H.P.Lovecraft: At the Mountains of Madness. 1936 I put it on a 5x10 cm wooden oval base by Warbases Those oval bases have proven to be quite the problem solver for several oddly shaped minis I have been wondering how to base. Those mould lines were so hard I would have had to put it to a grinder to get them off. And that would have ruined the surface details more than some lines do.

(With apologies to William Wordsworth) A desolate piece of grey coast on a very particular day in November. The hour is right. The signs are right. The stars are right. A pulse of sickly green light, far out to sea. An hour passes, then two. It takes even one of the High Priest's blood a while to ascend from the crushing black depths. Then, a boiling. A bubbling and a heaving of the waters. With a great splash, vast flabby webbed wings break the surface, followed by a most awful head. Brine cascades off its greasy hide in waterfalls as more and yet more of its colossal bulk emerges. So, now. The summons worked. But did the binding? Foam churns around its loathsome feet as it strides up to the shore. (Cultist is played by 59039, Deadlands Noir Occult Detective.) The Nolzur's Star Spawn is one heck of a chunk of model! Very good detail; good placement of clear water and primed plastic. Some places were NOT EASY TO REACH, but it turns out those wings pop right out of their sockets if you bend and wiggle them a bit. Found that out by accident. They pop back in pretty easily, too, so that helps a lot. Water is mostly GW blue and green contrasts mixed together. Takes a lot of time brushing back and forth before it adheres properly to the translucent plastic. A drybrushing with ivory white gets the foam caps. Skin is mostly a base coat of AP Disgusting Slime graded with darker greens. Irregular rings of Reaper Ancient Oak and Reaper (sample internal-organ pink) provide some contrast; there's a lot of canvas and it needs variety. Decided to make my other Reaper spawns match the scheme. Eldritch demon, 77113, and Darkspawn Minion, 03438b. Alternate summoning: And an as-yet-unpainted Great Cthulhu piggy bank that is about the right scale for the O.G. G. O. O. Towering over the horizon, blotting out the sun--classic Cthulhu stuff.

I decided to do a quick prime of my kickstarter minis. Creatures on blue /green spectrum got grey primer, and those that are fleshier got a mix of yellow & brown primer and a drop of craft red because I had it handy. No idea when I can next paint. Already did a good job obscuring some details.

It this yesterday because it gives me a nice in-between mini from my reaper eldritch demon and my Cthulhu. This is about 90 minutes Lots of inaccessible spots and texture which makes painting not fun. Will be making this shorter than planned as a result. Everything will get a flesh wash. I'll do some eyes and claws, then a medium and ink wash of the clear plastic water.

Hey gang! Thought I'd post the Eldritch Demon I painted recently. I decided to take a departure from the iconic green flesh mythos monster look and try a more orangey-jaundice flesh tone. Also used a yellow/orange mix to highlight the cool patterns covering the skin. Also, used the MSP Adamantium Black to give the base a neat volcanic/space rock look. I did keep the tentacles a traditional pink colour. Just seemed to fit with the whole new flesh, soft and squishy, feel (like a sea creature without its shell?)... Cheers! :) -E.E.

When I first started painting minis about a year ago, I was pretty broke. Mini painting is not an easy hobby to support when you're broke, especially when starting out. I didn't really play any tabletop games, I sure as heck couldn't afford GW models, and I wasn't yet aware of Reaper. To cut my teeth, I kept an eye out for cheap board games with pieces I could practice on. I stumbled across a half-price copy of Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu from Z-Man Games. While the minis included aren't really intended for painting, they were good enough for me, and once I'd gathered a little toolkit and some inexpensive paints I eagerly got to work on my slapdash painting training program. Pics in the thingy! I started out with the player characters...

Hello there! I'm new to the world of Reaper Bones. I don't usually buy unpainted mini, let alone unpainted minis which require assembly but the Khanjira The World Breaker and the C'thulhu minis were something I couldn't walk away from. I'm a Call of Cthulhu fanboy, I have always wanted to use him in an D&D campaign and never thought my Horrorclix Mighty Cthulhu fit the bill, especially with the stagnant form of him rising up out of the ocean. I also plan on using Khanjira The World Breaker as the Tarrasque. The Tarrasque is a gargantuan creature. What size round base would I use for that? Would 160mm work? I also assume Cthulhu would be gargantuan, I have always pictured him being collassal sized but the Reaper Bones mini doesn't reflect that size scale so perhaps he'd be more a Starspawn or aspect of Cthulhu? Meh, who cares? I'm HAPPY with the two pieces and looking forward to painting them as I couldn't wait to assemble them! But any help and advice about base size would be quite useful, thank you!

This is a three-dimensional doodle I did in Blender in the process of teaching myself how to use its Sculpt mode to create organic forms. I had no plan at all when I started out with a simple cube, and it just ended up getting creepy so I went with it. The figure is one of the Bones Townsfolk, the bartender, who I've made a bit more sinister with his bloody hands and apron. I printed the cube on my Ender 3 FDM machine at 0.2mm in PLA. Hopefully it will inspire a certain degree of disquiet among my players.

So I had her go at it and this is what she came up with this time.

Finished Cthulhu on Saturday, I think I'm learning to overcome my fear of highlighting too far, I still didn't go as light as people said I should. Some say you can go practically to white, but I am very hesitant to try that. I think I've made progress though. C&C welcome! Alright go these guys to a serviceable spot for a test game tomorrow. Forgot that there was a third one, I know I had it when priming and pre-shading, probably the hounds of tindalos again. DAMN THOSE CORNERS. Btw does anyone have any suggestions, beyond "just don't touch them," for playing games with half painted minis? I don't want to varnish them and was hoping there was a better way. @Talae I know you play while wip, do you do anything special?
