Attempting to adopt Buglips' Zen of Bones approach. I only removed the most offensive mold lines. I intended this to be for the KruleBear cub's 3rd Birthday. I was essentially done by the date, but procrastinated the final details for a couple months. This was the first mini I used aggressive Zenithal priming on and it saved me a lot of time. I call this a Toy Box level paint job or tabletop. http://www.coolminiornot.com/394924

This is one of three figures from the Ral Partha (now Iron Wind Metals) set "Wolfram's Gang." The set has three trolls, a woman with a rifle and pistol, a cyborg-troll, and this fella. His clothing was a little more eccentric than the others', and all that bare skin inspired me to try my hand at painting tiny tattoos on his skull and arms. There's a WIP thread for a whole lot of Shadowrun trolls here. Show-Off threads for the other Shadowrunners are: Reaper's own Caine, Cyber-Troll, a Troll woman from Wolfram's Gang, an ork woman street samurai, an Oni bouncer, a cyber-troll in reflective armor, and the unbelievably over-the-top Lord Torgo.

This is an old-school heavy-metal style Shadowrun gang member cyber troll, Lord Torgo, formerly of Ral Partha, now sold by Iron Wind Metals, both with the stock number 20-590. Which is to say, he's a cyberpunk miniature from a 1990s vision of the near future full of dystopian tech and magical mutations. He's a huge mutant with horns. Discussion of the figure to follow after the pictures (which now that I see them large are looking in need of some improvement). I did some playing around with texture and color and light effects here. The figure had some interesting details and surface types. Like all old Ral Partha figures, it has an integral base, in this case sculpted paving with some litter already on it. This figure was a pain and a half to assemble. The supplied chain was too short* and needed to be replaced (but I thought a real chain looked better anyway). The axe on his back is ridiculously top-heavy and attaches at two small points well below the center of balance; I added a wire "staple" to help hold it on. I was not able to find any other images of this figure painted online. It might be because It might be because he is so absurdly over the top heavy metal. Or it could be because he is rather fiddly, fragile, and difficult to assemble. The figure is front-heavy and on a narrow base, making it prone to tipping forward, and it hunches forward so it's hard to see the figure properly from a normal gamer's above the table perspective. A WIP thread, covering this figure, Reaper's "50287: Caine, Cyber-Troll," and several other old Ral Partha Shadowrun figures, can be found here. There are other Show Off threads for the companion piece Shadowrunners (mostly trolls): Reaper's own Caine, Cyber-Troll, a Troll woman from Wolfram's Gang, a Wolfram's gang troll with tattoos, an Oni bouncer, a cyber-troll in reflective armor, and an ork woman street samurai. *This was cached on Google but seems to have vanished in the meantime, which is why I copied it rather than linking. I'm not the only one who found the chain too short:

This is one of the old Ral Partha Shadowrun figures I painted up last fall, an actual cyber troll with cyber armor and implants. I was trying for an effect of shiny armor at night with multicolored reflections from different directions. Not sure how successful I was. The other Shadowrunners have other Show Off threads: Reaper's own Caine, Cyber-Troll, a Troll woman from Wolfram's Gang, a Wolfram's gang troll with tattoos, an ork woman street samurai, an Oni bouncer, and the unbelievably over-the-top Lord Torgo.

This is one of several old Ral Partha (now Iron Wind Metals) Shadowrun sculpts I've painted recently. She is one of three cybertroll figures in the set 20-563, "Wolfram's Gang". I deliberately painted her up in some of the colors of 'eighties fashions. I painted other cyber-trolls at the same time: Reaper's 50287: Caine, Cyber-Troll, Ral Partha's Lord Torgo, another member of "Wolfram's Gang" who I painted up all tattooed, an Oni bouncer, a cyber-troll in reflective armor, and an ork woman street samurai. The WIP thread for all of them and several more is here.

This is Reaper's 50287: Caine, Cyber-Troll, a design-your-own mini designed by Wayne Reynolds and sculpted by Bobby Jackson. It came in two parts, which fitted together neatly at his wrists and the shoulder point of the strap. They were rather bulky and I felt better using pins to hold them together. The base supplied was too small for Caine's wide stance, but I hear Reaper is working on that. Meanwhile I used a larger round base and painted it up to look like asphalt. The WIP thread (which also includes a number of old school Ral Partha Shadowrun figures) is here. Show-off threads for the other Shadowrun figures are: a Troll woman from Wolfram's Gang, a Wolfram's gang troll with tattoos, an ork woman street samurai, an Oni bouncer, a cyber-troll in reflective armor, and the unbelievably over-the-top Lord Torgo. You can see the entire squadron of cyber trolls on Jasper the 2nd's Spaceship Superstar - Squad Entries thread.

I've been going back and forth over starting a WIP for these because I've been noodling on them for a while and they're pretty far along. But hey. Perhaps this will be an incentive to get cracking and finish them. These are some official and unofficial Shadowrun figures, cyberpunk biggish humanoids, Reaper's 50287: Caine, Cyber-Troll, and a couple of trolls and an ork from Ral Partha, currently available from Iron Wind Metals (there's another ork, a decker, in this WIP). They're big. They're futuristic (for a particularly 1980s vision of the future). They're tech and camp and fun. I am trying to do Reaper's cybertroll in red and green without making him look too Christmasy. I am still pretty new to pinning; his hands and gun are still separate. This is an old Ral Partha cybertroll. I am trying to do some object-source-lighting on him, as if he were in shiny armor in the city at night, with orangeish city lights reflected from the cloud cover above and different colored lights from different directions. At the moment he looks pretty awful. I used the colors of 'eighties fashions on the female troll, which my have been a bit mean. This is as far as I know Ral Partha's -- indeed, anybody's -- only female Shadowrun ork. She is, let's face it, grotesque. I like the newest Shadowrun edition's illustrations of actually attractive orks, but so far there's no figures like that available. This is Lord Torgo, a particularly nasty troll character from the Shadowrun universe. He's pretty over the top. There is a chain which goes between his hands and a rifle and axe for his back which I haven't glued on yet.
