  1. Generally not impressed, likely to be my only purchasesin this line. Not close to terrain in quality. Edgerunners set G ( missing right arm for exec 3, waiting to hear back from MFC) Edgerunners F primed, media glued Rockerboys Guitarist leg broken in pack, waiting to hear back. Looks too small to pin for me and won't glue on its own Keytarist primed manager glued
  2. Black on black, your standard sci-fi street-runner. Gave his coat a touch of purple just to give the eye something to look at.
  3. Hasslefree specializes in characterful badasses, and I thought it good to paint a few of them up like my merc Frank Russo. Meet the Major, Ekaterina, Rowen, Alex, and Tank, along with their previously posted colleagues: In several cases they have been modified or accessorized. My FLGS had some leftover GW Bitz they were kind enough to let me plunder, and between that, a GW scout walker's leftover bitz, and Bombshell tool sprues there were plenty of canisters and accessories to go around. Here is the Major. (Hasslefree designation Major Hoare.) I added the gas tanks and the hose to his weapon. One canister is pyrophoric, the other, an extinguisher. The Major is acutely aware of which is connected at all times. I assume the cigar is a futuristic electronic device, for that would be most unsafe otherwise. Ekaterina appears to be one of Hasslefree's analogues to Black Widow. I added some canisters and a Bombshell machete. Rowen here really sold me on this project. Love that dynamic and confident stroll, and the flippy hairstyle. They are very secure in who they are, even more so with a portable GW missile strapped to their back. Alex has access to guns and grenades but prefers sharp blades. [This mini, unlike his colleagues, comes in like six pieces; pin and glue accordingly.] And of course there is Tank. Tank is not Hasslefree, but rather a leftover GW scout walker pilot. I've posted in the past about diversity in minis, and resolved to follow through on that by giving him a souped-up wheelchair/personal mobility device with some extra bells and whistles. Tank sees your wheelchair-inaccessible stairs and is prepared to turn them into an accessible ramp of smoking rubble. GW parts plus parts from a toy car I found under a refrigerator. And lastly, a repaint of Bombshell's Maelee, to get her in line with the Task Force dress code. Also added a couple pouches and canisters. Together they make a formidable team, good for spacefuture or cyberpunk settings. What sorts of mayhem mightn't they get up to...for the right price, of course?
  4. It would be nice to think about cyberpunk utopias, but somehow those just don't grip the popular imagination. Instead it's always overcast or raining, the sky is brocced, corporations own everything and everyone and surveillance is ubiquitous. There's money to be had, but barely enough to buy noodles unless you're connected...or willing to ignore corporate law. Devo Ranks eats the *fancy* noodles every day. They have Skillz. Click for more angles. Hacking into a Public Service Panopticon? CHILD'S PLAY. If you need muscle? Devo Knows A Guy. Or lady, really. Don't worry, Dez! Those cameras are showing nothing but innocuous looped footage now. No one pays the cleaners enough in the cyberpunk dystopian future. I won't pretend to understand what kind of cyber-heist these three are conducting. But you can be sure they have made Powerful Enemies, as well as enough credits to afford the FANCY noodles for the rest of the year! Devo is a fun one. Gender-ambiguous and tech-savvy. Because cyberpunk is inextricable from the late 80s and early 90s, I gave Devo the most day-glo Nickelodeon counterculture wardrobe I could think of. Dez from Bombshell we have seen before, in the post-apocalyptic Radlands, as well as the little sniper from Crooked Dice. The Public Service Panopticonnouncer was made from SD card placeholders and chunks of expired credit card, along with I think a vape component. The text, like much of the signage on the building, comes from a beer can label artfully chopped into pieces and rearranged into vaguely menacing advertisements. Also some sprue and all the camera-looking Bitz and Gunz in my Bitz Box. I don't have any cyberpunk setting or games planned, but I can feel the itch growing. C&C welcome.
  5. Coming in March. "3D printable STL files for RPG / wargaming - support-free minis, terrain, and vehicles for your Scifi and Cyberpunk game tables." https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ecaroth/the-ignis-quadrant-3d-printable-tabletop-models?fbclid=IwAR1Qe9ssykZnV46G-nOv7it4jq_Flry7L4Fufx8_wFOl_-AkRt8Poj8eesQ
  6. Some more Interface Zero 2.0 Kickstarter minis painted up for cyberpunk-themed games (and removed from their original "broccoli bases" and put on some War Cast Studios resin "tech" 25mm round bases instead). Alas, that I don't know where I can actually GET more of these minis after the Kickstarter. They're fairly straightforward poses, with hands held out, so they invite easy kit-bashing for hand-and-weapon swaps. The Street Samurai is a pretty nice basic retro trope cyberpunk mini. As cast, there's an extension to the long coat that includes the attached scabbard, so technically you could *leave off* the train and give him a much shorter coat, then do a hand-weapon swap to give him (for instance) another gun in his off hand. The right half of his face has a mechanical look to it, and I'm guessing that "painted as intended" would be to paint the right side of his face in "chrome" or "gunmetal" appearance -- but I decided to deviate here and go for more of a "half Kabuki-mask" look, which I thought might fit better with the "cyber-samurai" theme. As with capes for fantasy minis, the billowing trenchcoat begs for some sort of insignia on the back. I was tempted to paint him up like a Japanese bosozoku (biker gang) member -- a white coat with lots of splashes of brush-work to suggest Kanji in red on the coat -- but this time around I went for dark, but with "Tron lines." (I've got at least one more street samurai to paint up, so I think he might get the Bosozuku treatment instead.) The MAIN POINT of this of more general interest, however, is with the Hacker: I had a piece of scrap laser-cut acrylic from a Warsenal "grab bag" deal, and I got the idea to try to use it to represent an "augmented reality" interface. Since it was hot pink, I thought I'd go with a pink-and-black scheme for the figure as well. (At least, I don't think I've painted up any other cyberpunk minis in hot-pink-and-black recently.) For the display effect, I drilled a hole in the center of each side of the triangle, then took a piece of paperclip wire and bent it into a makeshift tiny "compass," with one length of wire longer than the other. I then stuck the longer end in the drilled hole, and used some needle-nose pliers to drag the "compass" around in circles and arcs, gouging the plastic in the process. When the piece is put under a light, the gouged lines seem to "light up" in relation to the translucent pink background, giving me my "holo" or "hyper-reality" display effect. I then pinned the triangle to the Hacker's outstretched power-glove hand. I've tried "etching" this acrylic before (inspired by the pieces from Warsenal that actually ARE deliberately laser-etched for a "display" effect), but with a hobby knife, which is kind of hard to get to follow a curve without making a real mess of things. This is the first time I thought to start with a drill hole and engineer a mini-"compass" to get some decent curved gouge lines. I've got a few other featureless cut-acrylic pieces from the Warsenal "grab bag" that I intend to try etching some more, for "holo displays" or perhaps even Iron Kingdoms-style "runic circles" as additional figure effects. (If only the acrylic weren't quite so THICK!)
  7. Hi everyone! As some of you know from watching my progress over in the WIP section of the forums, I've been busily working away on Cordelia! This super cute and characterful little mini was an absolute blast to paint, and I appreciated everyone's advice and encouragement! So, without further ado, here's my cyberpunk version of Cordelia, now to be known as Synth-ia! Once again, thank you so much to everyone who followed along at home!!!
  8. Sometimes inspiration strikes and you start fiddling around with an idea without really planning it. This is my second ever piece of terrain, and first one in about 20 years (did a paper towel tube bunker in my teens). Started off with some packaging material, and decided I would make a garage. That then turned into a workshop, and then kept growing. Somewhere I decided that this would be the cyberpunk equivalent to a wizard's tower, by being the home of some sort of technomagus. Also when I paint it, will make more sense with the wizard reference (hint: yellow bricks at the garage entrance and an Oz themed mural on garage door.) Early WIP pics in second comment. First two pics are from when I first started amd it was still going to be just a garage. Third through fifth images are when I started getting the wizard tower idea wth it.
  9. Okay, first of all, this isn't so much about, "Gee, look at what awesome paint jobs I managed to sloppily churn out over the holiday," as it is more about, "Wow, this board game has some rather cool minis that could be interesting for a cyberpunk campaign." Anyway, every now and again I work on painting up board game minis for a friend with at least enough detail that they can be visually distinguished easily enough on the table. As such, most of my effort goes into color-coding, and that's especially the case here. (AGENTS - L to R: Orangutan, Cobra, Blue Jay, Spider) The game has two teams: Agents, and Hunters. The big catch of the game is that you don't just stick all the minis and move them around as playing pieces like you would in a normal game. Rather, there's a hide-and-seek element at play, where the player of the Agents is secretly tracking their actual positions, and the player of the Hunters is trying to hunt them down before they can complete their secret objectives, with some predetermined missions and a lot of tracking required to keep things honest. The cards for the characters have color-coded frames -- red for Agents, blue for Hunters -- so the first and easy part was just to make sure that the figure alignments are clear by the color of the rings. The character art is nearly monochromatic -- the suggestion seems to be that just about EVERYONE is dressed in black, and so the main color elements of the artwork seem to be based upon the idea of bathing each character in a different shade of light. So, maybe Orangutan is really dressed in armor that looks rather orange (or brown -- hard to say), or he just happened to be bathed in some amber-red light, or something like that. This color-coded scheme serves me well for the Hunters, but not so much for the Agents: Aside from Orangutan, their artwork depicts ALL of them as dark with primarily bluish highlights. Fortunately, their silhouettes are SO different from each other that I don't think anyone's going to mix them up. Cobra suffered from having a hopelessly bendy sword blade that defied attempts to straighten it out. I ended up fashioning a replacement out of a pewter sprue tab, and pinning it in place. (HUNTERS - L to R: The Beast, The Prophet, The Puppet, The Gun) See, here I had a bit more color to work with. Beast's artwork is mainly purple-blue, the Prophet is all green, Puppet stands around in red light, and The Gun stands in a dusky sunset scene that makes him look all golden-orange. I could have just dry-brushed them all with the requisite color and called it a day, but I added a few details here and there (skin tones for bare skin anywhere I got a hint that there SHOULD be any skin tone, for instance, and bright points of white -- usually the eyes). I probably could have done the gun of The Gun in more of a gunmetal look, but I felt that it would detract too much from the otherwise one-color look that dominates the figures, since the gun comprises SO MUCH of the figure. I suppose the Prophet could have gotten some skin-tone as well, but the artwork for him makes him SO GREEN. I tried to compromise by mixing a lighter and slightly greyed shade of green for the head, but it doesn't really show up well in the photo. Too subtle? Probably. For the bottoms, I painted them graphite-grey, then wrote the figure name in white acrylic, but that's only barely legible. It's more a clue for someone who already knows the names but for some reason can't FOR SURE remember which mini is which. ;) I'm not showing THAT, since it'd just look painfully ugly in a photo.
  10. This is one of three figures from the Ral Partha (now Iron Wind Metals) set "Wolfram's Gang." The set has three trolls, a woman with a rifle and pistol, a cyborg-troll, and this fella. His clothing was a little more eccentric than the others', and all that bare skin inspired me to try my hand at painting tiny tattoos on his skull and arms. There's a WIP thread for a whole lot of Shadowrun trolls here. Show-Off threads for the other Shadowrunners are: Reaper's own Caine, Cyber-Troll, a Troll woman from Wolfram's Gang, an ork woman street samurai, an Oni bouncer, a cyber-troll in reflective armor, and the unbelievably over-the-top Lord Torgo.
  11. It felt like I haven't finished anything these last couple of months so I decided to just do a very quick conversion and paint job to try and get back into the swing of things. The idea was to do something along the lines of a razor girl like glory from "Shadowrun: Dragonfall". Unfortunately all the claw hands I had were enormous so I had to settle for wrist swords from a Mantic Enforcer. Her body and head are from a wargames factory female zombie survivor. she also has a backpack pistol and knife from mantic. I'm not certain where her grenade came from. I was also playing around with using green to shade things. not as dramatic a contrast to the swords as purple or blue would have been, but it seemed to work decently.
  12. This girl took forever to sand and clean prior to painting, but I like how she turned out. Can always use more scrawny cyberpunks.
  13. This is the cyberpunk girl from Chronoscope. Nothing fancy, painted her for gaming, but I like her more than I thought I would. Feedback always welcome, thanks for stopping by!
  14. Satellite Reign. A real-time, class-based strategy game, set in an open world cyberpunk city, from the creator of Syndicate Wars. Closing in 3 days, and it looks like it'll make funding no problems. Be interesting to see if they manage to get any of the stretch goals funded. It does look gorgeous, and with Shadowrun Returns delivering in the next 36 hours, I need another dystopian Cyberpunk game in the oven. Pledged. If nothing else, check out the concept artwork in the updates: the soldier looks like he could headbutt his way through a tank.
  15. I realized I hadn't posted all the old Shadowrun Ral Partha figures I painted last year. This is an ork woman street samurai. Like all old Parthas, her base is integral and pre-sculpted. I think I prefer the new Shadowrun aesthetic, where even orks can be kind of cute. This one is pretty grotesque. The rest of the Shadowrun pieces I painted at the same time are Reaper's own Caine, Cyber-Troll, a Troll woman from Wolfram's Gang, a Wolfram's gang troll with tattoos, an Oni bouncer, a cyber-troll in reflective armor, and the marvelously over-the-top Lord Torgo.
  16. This is one of several old Ral Partha (now Iron Wind Metals) Shadowrun sculpts I've painted recently. She is one of three cybertroll figures in the set 20-563, "Wolfram's Gang". I deliberately painted her up in some of the colors of 'eighties fashions. I painted other cyber-trolls at the same time: Reaper's 50287: Caine, Cyber-Troll, Ral Partha's Lord Torgo, another member of "Wolfram's Gang" who I painted up all tattooed, an Oni bouncer, a cyber-troll in reflective armor, and an ork woman street samurai. The WIP thread for all of them and several more is here.
  17. I've been going back and forth over starting a WIP for these because I've been noodling on them for a while and they're pretty far along. But hey. Perhaps this will be an incentive to get cracking and finish them. These are some official and unofficial Shadowrun figures, cyberpunk biggish humanoids, Reaper's 50287: Caine, Cyber-Troll, and a couple of trolls and an ork from Ral Partha, currently available from Iron Wind Metals (there's another ork, a decker, in this WIP). They're big. They're futuristic (for a particularly 1980s vision of the future). They're tech and camp and fun. I am trying to do Reaper's cybertroll in red and green without making him look too Christmasy. I am still pretty new to pinning; his hands and gun are still separate. This is an old Ral Partha cybertroll. I am trying to do some object-source-lighting on him, as if he were in shiny armor in the city at night, with orangeish city lights reflected from the cloud cover above and different colored lights from different directions. At the moment he looks pretty awful. I used the colors of 'eighties fashions on the female troll, which my have been a bit mean. This is as far as I know Ral Partha's -- indeed, anybody's -- only female Shadowrun ork. She is, let's face it, grotesque. I like the newest Shadowrun edition's illustrations of actually attractive orks, but so far there's no figures like that available. This is Lord Torgo, a particularly nasty troll character from the Shadowrun universe. He's pretty over the top. There is a chain which goes between his hands and a rifle and axe for his back which I haven't glued on yet.
  18. If you read the blog you already seen this guy. I thought I'd start a thread to post about him here too. I'm not sure if I'm making too many threads or is the forum a little on the idle side? Mods? Should I make one megathread or is this better? Working with a reference image I've taken myself.
