  1. Presenting a Chain Lord, the head of the Slaver Guild set for the game Necromunda from Games Workshop. Had my eye on the Necromunda range for awhile, but bad past experiences with Forgeworld resin put me off (Still the triangles haunt me!), the stuff's not too bad now, still a big pain in the bum to clean up though! Anyways, really pleased with how this guy painted up, just got the rest of the gang to do now. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  2. New small project to make a shark piloted small attack tank, for reliable and predictable battle field use. While doing random image searched for apocalyptic stuff as inspiration I ran across the image of a shark on tank treads and thought to myself "this is something I need in my life". I have a ton of tank parts from TEHNOLOG, a Russian toy maker, sadly blocked from new sales for now. With all these parts and small bits box, and some green stuff I'm going to build this thing. The core model is Based on the Reaper 7728: Sharkman. I chopped off his legs and filled the arm socket with putty and sculpted on some amputated fins. Next step is to add a harness below it to hold it up. Need to pick up some flat beads and make some braces on a central tube, should look the part. -JIM
  3. Presenting Mecha Toto, the fifth and final member of the Oz gang from Twisted by Demented Games. Kinda wish he'd been a bit furrier as all the armour plates came out a bit bland. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received. Bonus piccy:- They're off to see the wizard...
  4. Presenting the Artful Dodger, part of the Dickensian faction from the game Twisted by Demented Games. Not too happy with this one, he turned out to be surprisingly difficult to paint (and even harder to photograph!), but at least he's finally done (I partially painted up his resin version a few years ago). As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  5. Presenting The Engineer, this hulking monstrosity of flesh and steel was originally another Nurgle-themed baddie from Games Workshops Rogue Trader boxset (like his friend Screamin' Eddie). Not quite as happy with this one as I was with Eddie, for all his details he ended up kinda boring looking, but I was rather pleased with how his fiery belly turned out. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  6. Presenting Compound (from the game Guild Ball), a collaborative experiment between the Alchemist and Engineer Guilds to see how much their combined talents could "improve" the average human Guild Baller. Despite having some difficulties painting his skin, I just could not get the highlights on his belly to look right, I'm very pleased with the end result. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  7. Starting yet another Guild Ball mini:- Compound, a player for both the Engineer and Alchemist Guilds. He was pretty easy to assemble considering he came in a lot of pieces for a metal mini (body, apron, both arms, head and four canisters for the engine on his back. Since it involved drybrushing, I started on his mechanical arms:- So far I've finished the wooden (Parasite Brown > Brown Wash > Parasite Brown drybrush > Ochre Yellow drybrush > Sepia Wash) and material (Scarlett Red > 1:2 Scarlett Red/Pale Yellow > Brown Wash) parts. The bronze metal parts are a base of Bronze with a Brown Wash so far and the steel parts are yet to be done.
  8. This is another of the PCs for an enjoyable mashup of White Wolf's World of Darkness (Vampire the Masquerade, second edition, Werewolf the APocalypse etc.) and Exalted (second edition). This one is an androgynous, or perhaps genderfluid would be a better description, Alchemical, a sort of human-cyborg prototype Exalted made by Autochthon, architect of the world. The Adamant caste are sort of the policemen-secret agent-ninjas of the Alchemicals, making sure society runs smoothly in their mechanized cities. This one is sort of lost, as the Creation of Exalted has morphed into the World of Darkness and Autochthon is nowhere to be found, although things with his name which are not him, echoes perhaps, linger. Anyhow, that's all backstory. The figure is Patrick Keith's enigmatic Numemera Jack, Reaper 62102. There is a WIP thread here.
  9. Presenting Bill Sykes (and Bullseye!), leader of the Dickensian faction from the game Twisted. Going back to painting true-scale minis, and rather detailed ones at that, proved harder than I thought it would, but I think I did a decent job. I just wish my varnish hadn't left Bills coat so shiny. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  10. Been looking forward to working on some more Twisted minis for a long time (basically ever since I crushed Nightingale trying to assemble her, and realized I was just too clumsy to work with fragile resin minis any more), I'm starting with Bill Sykes and Bullseye:- Weren't as hard to assemble as I feared they might be, just letting the primer dry overnight and I can start painting!
  11. Presenting another Ogre Gangster from the game Wolsung by Micro Art Studio. Casting wasn't too good on this one, he's got pits, cracks and rough patches all over him, but I still think I did a decent job. He's also my final Ogre Gangster (I've still got a few Halfling Gangsters to paint though), so here's a group-shot:- As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly appreciated.
  12. Presenting Belisarius Cawl, a millenniums-old, cyborg super-scientist. He's part of Games Workshops Triumvirate of the Imperium figure set, and I've been doing a WIP thread for him here. Now I've got him all assembled he is a little too busy detail-wise (he could certainly do with losing at least one set of arms), but he was a lot of fun to paint up and put together and that's the important thing. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  13. So while I was stuck on another mini, I was putting together some of my other minis. Unfortunately I'd gotten quite far into assembling this particular one, before I realized I wouldn't be able to pack him away afterwards due to his abundance of tiny, easily broken bits, so he's barged his way to the front of my painting queue. Eventually Cawl will look like this:- But currently he looks like this:- As he also happens to be pretty damn fiddly to paint. Honestly, I would have liked to have left him in even more sub-assemblies, but it would've started to get silly. On the plus side I already have a colour scheme sorted for my little group of GW Cyborgs (even though I still have most of them to paint):- Although Cawl is a bit more complicated than the rest (so much cabling!), and there's bound to be colours in there I no longer have (why did I have to use Ruddy Leather on everything?). Anyways, started on his lower half:- With a basecoat of Medium Olive and a Brownshade wash on the cloth areas. Sadly, the wash didn't do a particularly good job of settling in the folds, so I will need to repaint pretty much all of this.
  14. Presenting an Ork Painboy from Warhammer 40K. Had a lot of fun painting him (WIP thread here), and definitely want to get some more Orks in the future (unfortunately they don't seem to have many plastic characters). As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  15. Taking a break from working on my Kingdom Death stuff to paint this:- Choose this one because I need to learn to paint without leaning forward so much, so a big, chunky dude seemed like the best place to start. I'll make a start on the skin tomorrow, if I'm up to it.
  16. Presenting the Cyborg, a soldier re-engineered to fight in battlefields that would be lethal to a normal man. Really, he's a paint scheme test for my small band of Skitarii Rangers from Warhammer 40k. Came out pretty good too, even if I did utterly fail to paint him up as grim and gritty as I wanted (apparently that's just not how I paint). As always, any comments and criticisms are warmly received.
  17. This is another Bones miniature designed by Jason Wiebe — 80001: Ape-X. I think that a gorilla's skin would tend to be blacker than this, but that made it very monochromatic, so I browned it up a bit. And here it is again, photographed from every angle, just in case you really need to know what it would look like from a rear three-quarter view.
  18. Another finished Wolsung mini, this time it's the Sumo Wrestler from the Triad faction. Super annoyed I didn't spot that thumbprint on his base until after I'd got him attached, but I think the mini itself turned out really well. As always, any comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated.
  19. The steampunk bug continues to bite hard! Decided to try one of my new Twisted minis, before I end up with an intimidatingly large pile of them, choose Dodger:- I hate it when they insist on making you cut those tiny, fragile pieces from great, big, giant lumps of sprue. As expected, removing him from the sprue cost him part of his scarf and coat, but I managed to do an okay job of repairing them. I also managed to assemble him slightly wrong looking at the official pics, apparently he's supposed to be aiming forward. Did his skin with a 1:1 Vallejo Dwarf Flesh/Vallejo Flat Flesh scheme. Also managed to get his teeth and eyes (no pupils though, they're too tiny!). Started on his hair with Palomino Gold.
  20. Been desperate to start on my Wolsung stuff, unfortunately most of it needs to be based before I can start painting, and I can't base any of it because I'm waiting on some basing stamps (to make more awesome cobblestones than I can create with my current sculpting skills). But I did find a couple I could mount on corks, Ms. Suess and a Ghoul (both from the Ven Rier faction):- Currently waiting for the Primer to fully dry, so it'll probably be tomorrow before I make any more progress.
  21. Pulled over from my sculpting thread. Would be in Show Off, except there are just those tiny things which still bug me. That slight grainy texture on the face is getting really annoying, and I'm not really sure how to smooth it or fix it. Need to shadow the cape more I think. Sword is not as bright as I would like, but short of going out and buying a bottle of florescent paint for this alone, I think it's fine. Huh. Reaper Alien Flesh MSP is the exact same color as ProCreate. The patterning on the concept art... hahaha I don't think i can do much more than try and suggest it like what I've done a little bit. I already have trouble drawing it in with my micron pen.
  22. This is Hephaestus, the first figure from Joek Minis Odyssey Line (a far future take on Greek Myth), sadly I'm not too keen on their designs for future figures, so he'll probably be the only one I get. Annoyed I can't get his various lights to photograph properly, they're actually light blue (LED Blue to be exact) with white centres, but I'm pleased with the rest of him. Any comments and criticisms are, as always, most appreciated.
  23. After I saw the DARPA jetpacks and the new mech suits, I figured I'd ask-- what piece of new future tech would you want to own today, if you were given it for free?
  24. 'This style of boxing has been past down the Armstrong line for generations!' This is one of the three Wolsung minis I picked up to see what they looked like in the 'flesh' before all the ones from their recent Kickstarter arrive. Struggled a bit figuring out how to paint his trousers and hat, but I think I did okay overall. Comments and critiques are welcome.
