Good evening all you Reaperpaths! So tonight I've got an old blister pack of miniatures, a mounted and and foot Lord Soth, sculpted by Dennis Mize for Ral Partha's D & D TSR series from the eighties and nineties. This is another one of the miniatures that I'm going to be selling on EBay (just listed them a moment ago), and the proceeds of the sale are going to go straight to Melissa Noe, the wife of Michael Noe, Iron Wind Metal's president. She was diagnosed last year with cancer and their bills are copious even with insurance, so trying to do a bit to help out. Anyhoos, here they are finally, first Lord Soth on foot: and then Lord Soth on his loyal steed (not saying the steed has much say in the matter really): and here they are together: I had a few problems, as I'd mentioned in my little post under the "Painting Tips and Advice" forum, where lots of the chainmail I could see little white holes that just didn't get filled, but spent lots of hours trying to fill them individually and was successful to some degree, and if not under a 3000 x 2000 pixelated photo, you really notice overly the holes. The other thing that I did was I was able paint the second eye in the Lord Soth on foot, for which I added that close up because I was so happy I was able to get it done. So crossing my fingers and hope to find a buyer for these two fellas and their horsey. If you happen to know anybody that collects Partha figures, make sure to mention to them that this is out there, just waiting to find a new owner, and that all money received is pretty much just going to straight to some medical bills for a very nice lady. So through the winds of destiny, I had found out about this miniature and even had a really poor, squishy nosed copy of her. I really didn't know where she came from, but as I was wandering around EBay recently as I was doing auctions for Melissa Noe related to her cancer, I came upon an auction that I found rather interesting. It was a whole blister pack of these little ladies, whose origin was rather mysterious, at least to me. This is one of the miniatures whose existence I was aware of but didn't know in what context she fit in the whole Ral Partha pantheon. Well, I ended up winning her bid, and was the only one who did actually bid at 15.00 plus shipping, so got this delightful pack of six identical ladies: Come to find out, at least as per the Lost Mini Wiki, she's a part of Ral Partha's old Royal Armies of the Hyborean Age line, sculpted back then by Dennis Mize. The miniature itself is stamped with 1979 on her base. So, now before I had one cruddy copy. Now I have six copies, and it looks like they all have noses and such, so life is good. I've had these about a month and just painted my first copy of her: This is the first version of her and hope to paint a few more over the next few months/years when I get so inspired. The other thing that it worth pointing out is this little lady is really small. She's from a 25 mm line when 25 mm really meant something. I took a few photographs so you could see what I mean by petite, first picture of her up against a Reaper paint bottle: Sorry the picture is so dark but at least sizewise you can see how petite she is, and then the other picture shows her against a beautifully sculpted Werner Klocke hobbitess I painted many many years ago: That picture can help with notions of size creep and just how small some of the old miniatures used to be. So this is one of my Holy Grail miniatures that I was wanting for a while, but never knew enough that it really existed that I could actually try to hunt her down, and now I have six of them! My other Ral Partha Holy Grail is the Children of the Night Brontotherium and Rider, not so much for the Brontotherium, as that figure currently exists on Ral Partha Legacy's web site, but the actual Rider, who is this little cave check mounted on this prehistoric beast with a spear in her hands. One day hope to get a hold of a good copy of her too, and then I will have all my Ral Partha desires fulfilled. Then comes the hard part, have to paint them all. Oh when will it ever end? Hello my Reaperleapers! So I wanted to repaint this figure, that I had probably already painted ten years ago, because I never liked her left eye, thinking it was too big and bulbous, and I thought it was due to my actual paint job. So I painted the eye, as it's small and hard to get gauge with a line instead of a dot, so maybe it looked to me for that reason a little bit odd as well. So fast forward a decade and I decided to repaint her with a different color scheme with the hopes of repairing her eye, but with the second time around, I realized that the sculpt of the eye was just big and round. So here's my new version, different color scheme and with the thought of eye reparations that didn't apparently seem to work out or matter: and here's the original one from who knows how far back: and here they are together: I think I actually like the coloring on the first one better, with the white and red. I think maybe the metal turned out better on the newer one (even though I still think the axe head is too blue) and I tried to do some bronze/brass/who knows what color on her grieves and the thingy that goes around her throat, but who knows. I'm still not that satisfied. Are we just doomed to never be satisfied with some of our little projects?

Hello all you Reaper Acolytes! So tonight going a little demonic, just finished painting these three Demon Women, sculpted by Dennis Mize. I'm not so sure how good the photos actually are, they end up being a lot smaller on detail because they've got those big, tall wings. I'm also kind of wondering about their faces. With my thought of "demon women", I thought they'd be a little more natural, not tons of makeup, so I didn't put in any eye shadow or even eyebrows. I also did eyes without pupils. I wanted to do some different colors, so the red one has yellow eyes, the white one green eyes, and the purple one has light blue eyes. I'm. not so well though these translate visually, and I'm vaguely considering painting them again, but not so sure because once I finish something I'm usually moving on to the next project already. So we'll see. The white lady's eyes seemingly were a bit more pale than I wanted for example, and the red one's eyes seem too flat. The purple one's eyes in the photos actually look to me more white than blue. So maybe I'll update. who knows.... As always, apart from thinking of how the eyes turned out, the biggest issue was choosing colors. I knew the skin colors I wanted, but the clothes were another story all together. Eventually had to choose some color, and I knew I wanted the lava-ey bases, so hopefully they all turned out okay. So anyhoos, enjoy!

So continuing my barbarian, slightly-avoiding copyright infringement miniatures, here's a random Barbarian Warlord with Great Sword, or is it just a great sword? Anyhoos, he may or may not resemble some great square jawed barbarian, only you and Crom know for sure: He's got a crazy, exaggerated helmet, but I'm guessing it's ceremonial? Or who knows, maybe he uses it when he's samba dancing.....

Hello Reaperboreans! So here's just a straight off basic old fashion barbarian, who you may vaguely recognize from the movies:

Happy weekend to all! So this figure I'd painted I don't know how many years ago, and over the last years or two wanted to paint her again because I felt I could do a better job on her with years of experience behind me. So here is the updated version of this figure with different colors and hopefully better highlights and shadow, different color selection, and with this on I really didn't do much more than a green stuff flattish base because the figure itself is so small that when you start putting stuff in front and behind it covers up that ground level detail, you hide the hands for example. Also with this newer version I think I found things that I didn't notice in the first figure, I think two rings on her hands and in the shoes, she actually had some open space where skin was exposed that I didn't notice the first time. I have to say that both of these versions were horribly difficult to photograph so don't know how well they came out, she's small and has some odd angles to photograph. Anyhoos, here's the newest updated version: And here's the original version that I'm guessing I painted I don't know how long ago, maybe ten years earlier? She's kind of a weird figure too, because assuming she has that chainmail under her shirt and then over her pants, it kind of makes me wonder how well that was actually thought out or how it would work, but equally it's not actually chainmail, but just some fabric and I've been perceiving it erroneously as chain mail all these years. Anyhoo, which version do you like better? Let me know what you think!

Good morning all you folk of the Reaper persuasion, who maybe should get their own pronoun, re. So I just finished this evil wizard up, sculpted way back in the eighties by Dennis Mize, I think to replace an earlier Citadel model. Tried to keep him dark, and originally thought about starting all black and just use different highlight coloring for the cape and for the cloak, but then kind of wussed out and thought nothing cries evil like a man with a pink cloak (a la Roose Bolton) so here he is for your viewing pleasure: Enjoy all of his fashion glory!

Hello All, so hopefully after my anthropomorphic cat, this one won't be a disappointment! So probably already about two years ago, I sold my original version of this mini for an amount that I just could not refuse (and was in fact instrumental in giving me funds for Bones VI), and figured I'd just paint her again. It took forever to get around to it, but now I've gotten my second rendition of her, and she is underneath: I am reasonably satisfied with her but the issue I have is with her eyes. Even though live it doesn't seem she has them, she has in the photos at least large dark lines under them. Here is the original version of this chick that I painted maybe around 2018: where I like her eyes a whole lot better in the second blue version, or actually the first original version. As I go back to an unpainted version of this gal, I'm a bit confused because the actual eyes are actually rather large and circular, more akin to the pink dressed lass, so not what sure what has happened. All in all though, being I do have another unpainted version of her, I almost feel obligated to want to try again until I'm 100% happy. Does anybody else ever have this issue? I'm not sure when I'll get around to version number three, but I'm guessing it might frustrate me to have it done in 2023 sometimes amongst all my little other projects.

Hey everyone, I completed another one Yesterday. Some more orange... on a completely different model. She reminded me of Red Sonja so I decided to paint her hair fiery red. This is 02759, Dena the Barbarian sculpted by Dennis Mize. The Gravestone of Protection 77539 was sculpted by Julie Guthrie and the Shrine is a 3d print by Aleda at Gothic Things.

Good evening Reapertons! So I've been busy working on a little project, plus I'm painting some Christmas elves for my mom, but amidst everything else I got inspired to repaint a figure that for some reason I've always liked quite a lot. She's a very simple figure, and I painted her first probably way back in 1980 something, probably between 1982-1986. She was sculpted by Dennis Mize in a set of four other thieves in the Children of the Night range. I've actually painted three of the four, still haven't gotten around to painting the last one with a grappling hook. Anyway, showing off new to old: and here is the original miniature, way back from the funky monkey eighties: and here she is when I painted her maybe in the early 2000's, I'm guessing between 2004-2006: and here they are all together: So the oddest thing about these is that I've really never succeeded in varying from the basic color scheme. There's always a bit of a change, but I always envisioned her as a dusky skinned, desert-themed thief. One of these days I have a feeling that I'll paint her again, and I'll try to do a hugely opposite color scheme, blonde hair and bright clothing. Who knows when though, it seems it takes me over a decade to get to a new version of a figure!

Good evening my Reaperhoovians! So just finished up this little blister pack of Shadowrun Elves sculpted by Ral Partha either latter eighties/early nineties, by Dennis Mize. Two ladies and two gentlemen, challenge as always was figuring out what colors I wanted for them. Being it's all funky monkey science fictiony, can't help but thinking of a little more lively colors and lively hair colors for the most part. and I figured the last figured I'd do as a Drow, no idea if there are any Drow in Shadowrun but painting's not solving world peace or saving lives, so even if there are no Drow in Shadowrun, nobody will lose a finger. And here's the group as it's all together: I wanted them to fit all in one page so I didn't put them on bases, and I painted the rim black, and I can see a little bit of irregularities on that. Not sure if I may eventually actually either repaint the base or actually put them on bases so they don't fall over. The biggest problem is after I take them off their temporary base, I don't want to touch them and that's where it all gets tricky. Anyhow, a problem for later, hope you enjoy these in the meantime!

Hello all you Reaperhemians! So my last four minis were a blister pack of Ral Partha Shadowrun Tribals, sculpted by Dennis Mize, with a date stamped on the bottom of 1992, so 19 years ago.(EDIT -apparently I can’t do math. I was thinking a moment ago, wait, my kid is twenty eight years old and he was born in 1992, so the miniature is actually 28 or so years old!) I really enjoyed working on these figures. The first thing was the Native American skin, for which I used the Redstone Triad to get figured out. I hope it doesn't look too red. The other thing was all the beads they have on their clothing, for which I gave up and decided to go with the same colors for each bead set, even though I though of doing different colors in the same string of beads but kind of gave that thought up because I didn't want it to take forever. The other thing I kind of tried was to use a red, white and blue color theme for the accents, with their natural leathers and I threw in a bit of green and yellow. So anyways, hope you all enjoy!

My 8 year old son painted these shortly after his birthday last spring. I actually liked his colors and the pattern on the Carnotaurus. Mostly I was over joyed that he didn’t glob the paint on for once. A few weeks ago I decided to paint the eyes, teeth, claws, and base for him. Them a coat of sealer. I think they look great for the toy box. Here are my crappy before and after.

And hello again, my Reaper brethren and sistern, Another mini I finished just this afternoon, a Ral Partha Mage with Wand, sculpted by Dennis Mize back in the late seventies or early eighties. He came from the Children of the Night range, and his blister pack was originally called Shadow Elves or something like that, but nowadays at Iron Wind Metals, he's just known as Mage with Wand. I was going to use my normal camera to take these pictures, but my battery died and I didn't have any left at home, so took this one again too with my iPhone. he came out okay, not sure if too much contrast? Unlike the Unicorn I just posted, this one is only two photos, a front and a back. The only thing I'm not sure if I'm that happy with is his wand. The little jewel on top I was thinking of reddish-orange, but it may have turned out too much like the chestnut brown of the holding part of the wand. Anyhoos, this was a relatively simple mini to paint, not a lot of dingley danglies, which makes for a pretty quick job. In this blister pack he's got a female and two other male shadow elves. I'm almost kind of inspired to paint the rest of them as well. I've already painted the female three times, but the other two males haven't done yet. We'll see how inspired I get and if I throw them in my queue. Being they were called Shadow Elves, I thought of a drow vibe and one of the versions of the chick I actually did paint as a drow. Alas, we'll see what I end up doing, so many miniatures and only 30-40 years to live.

Hello all you Reapervellians, So I had these figures sitting around and primed for probably about two or three years, and then while trying to start up another project, I ended up grabbing these. These are four new figures, sculpted by Dave Summers, famous for his Darksword anthropomorphic miniatures as well as decades of other finely sculpted figures, that he sculpted for Ral Partha's Chaos Wars game in 2016, associated with a Kickstarter if I recall correctly, and then a rather old figure, the female dwarf, who was sculpted by Dennis Mize back in I think 1977-1978. Nowadays of course, figures are a lot larger, but Dave Summers sculpted these four new dwarves to that old school 25 millimeter scale, which means they are pretty petite. If I remember afterwards I'll snap some kind of comparison photo with some common item. I always forget to do that for some reason. Anyhoos, here they are: and here's the lady dwarf. I separated her out because I actually have an older version that I did of her years ago as a gift for somebody, and wanted to show it as a comparison. Here's the one I just painted: and here she is probably already five or six years earlier: I had her on a much larger base in the original version. Hello everyone, I completed this one last night. 02615, Female Bloodguard was sculpted by Dennis Mize. I removed the axe she was holding in her left hand and replaced it with a shield from a 14359 Crimson Knight.

Hello everyreaperbody! So just recently finished these three go-lucky ladies, a trio of Dancing Girls sculpted quite a while back by Dennis Mize. Colors were the hardest part fo figure out plus I tried to do some semi-transparent clothing, not sure how well that turned out and here they are together: Wanted different hair and different skin tones for each one. Relatively small figures, almost horrified when I see them so close up, but oh well, such is the curse of this hobby. I'd painted a set of them maybe 15 years ago. Don't have any pictures of the original set unfortunately, and then I went and sold them on eBay for I don't remember at all how much. So I'm glad I got a hold of another copy to do again and keep. I'll probably be putting them on super-simple bases in the near future, just so they don't fall over. So anyways, hope you enjoy!

So for those who celebrate such things, I hope you all had a really nice Thanksgiving as well as a beautiful Black Friday! So I finished these a few days ago, but have kind of been a bit busy for posting. They both have shields, but only one of them I had to worry about putting a "something" on the shield. I didn't know exactly what to put on there, so ended up with a little green face with X'd out eyes. There was still space so painted a little triangle. No great significance, just filling in some space. Being I was painting them too both at the same time and in the effort of saving time I ended up painting their footwear equal colors, hopefully nobody will think the less of me for it. These are two miniatures from Ral Partha, sculpted by Dennis Mize, that were part of their Ral Partha Imports range. Partha originally was distributing some Citadel figures back in the eighties, but I think they either lost the rights to the miniatures or just decided to sculpt their own alternative versions. In any case as a result, there are some Citadel figures that have a Partha version, mostly sculpted back then by Dennis Mize. I was watching too around last week Anne's Twitch channel in which she mentioned she actually does some painting or dry brushing of static grass and I mean to try it one of these days, just haven't quite figured out with it yet if it's just a bit of random dry brushing or if there would be a method to it. It kind makes sense though. I found out years ago that if you used sand or rocks on your bases, it looks a lot better if you painted them as well, as the rocks don't seem to check with the whole miniature and base being painted. So anyhoos, everybody enjoy your long weekend if you happen to have one, don't shop too much, and maintain some social distancing!

Hi guys and guyettes! So continuing on with some Dennis Mize Children of the Night dinosaurs, here is the Monoclonius Agathaumas: He went on a long, oval base because he was just too big for whatever circular ones I had. Tried to once again stay away from a green or grey color scheme. Not a very dramatic pose, just a dinosaur kind of hanging out, but I think he's pretty swell as far as dinosaurs go. Not a triceratops, doesn't have those wonderful long horns on his head, just little nubs. If I get so inspired, I'll go look up his name to see what actually is known about this particular type of dinosaur and where he lived, et cetera. Back in the days of my youth, the seventies, we as kids really loved anything related to dinosaurs and cavemen. But those were back in the days of pre-pre Jurassic Park, we had more Harryhausen as our main provider of cinematic dinosaurs, and whatever books we could get at book stores. Speaking of seventies dinosaurs, has anybody visited the Flintstone Park in South Dakota and is it still there?

Hello all you fine purveyors or all things Reaper and miniature related! So here this evening, I'm posting up a miniature sculpted by Dennis Mize back in 1989 (I actually looked at the bottom before adhering him on to his base) and you may or may not recognize him. He's a more "realistic" version of a certain comic book classic, Groo the Wanderer, officially named in the Iron Wind Metal Site as a Brainless Barbarian: In case you've never actually met him, here is what he looks like in the two-dimensional world: Super-fun mini to paint, pretty straightforward, the only issue that I had created in my mind was painting his tunic orange, kind of to match his comic book coloring, but in the end it was a bit easier than I thought. I think it was also way back in the day that maybe Dark Horse Miniatures made cartoon versions of him as miniatures. I would one day love to snag some of those, but that will be for another Ebay adventure I'm sure. So a double blast to the past, both in comic book and miniature form, hope you enjoy!

Where several of the other Lost Valley dino-beasts have extra fantasy elements to them, such as extra horns. spiney ridges, a third digit on the vestigial front limbs and such, this one is just about picture perfectly based on a real dinosaur: The Carnotaurus. The Carnotaurus lived at some point during the Late Cretaceous period, that lasted from about 100 million to 66 million years ago. There have been found several fossils with bones and skin impressions that show scales, ridges and bumps in the hide. No sign of feathers though. The fossils are all found in South America, which was part of the supercontinent southern Gondwanaland when these critters existed. This is the only raptor-like predatory dino we know of that had horns on the skull, looking like very sharp eyebrows more than anything else really. This model was originally released in metal some years ago, which might explain the difference in design philosophy ("real dinosaur" vs "fantasy dinosaur"). Now it also exists in Bones Black in the Lost Valley. Hi all you Reaperly fellows and fellowettes! So this time I just finished painting a little dragon, Ral Partha-sized dragon, sculpted by Dennis Mize. As always, I had tons of problems figuring out a color, so I did a red underpart, and then above, I used for the most part the Dark Elf Skin Triad to paint the rest. I took a bunch of photos because with the wings extended like they are, it was hard to get things in focus, so sorry if I put in too many photos, but want to give a good idea of the mini. He's a pretty big mini in the Ral Partha sense, but pretty small in the overall sense of dragon-ness, I know that Reaper has tons of larger dragons out there. I like this guy because he is long and sinuous. I had to bend his wings up a little so they wouldn't go straight out. I didn't check the year he was sculpted but I'm guessing latter seventies or early eighties. Anyhoos, hopefully you enjoy!

Good evening, morning or afternoon, depending where you are and wen you read this! So my last three miniatures that I just finished. Being they are a set of three and I wanted to photograph them together, I didn't base them, but just painted their bases with a weathered stone, without any elaboration. I might stick them on bases later and do a little bit more to them, but that might be a bit in the future. If I do, it's so I can handle them without worrying the paint might rub off. They are a little bit wide the bases, so they probably won't fit on 32 mm bases, but the next size up. Anyhoos, here they are: and their little three-person guild together: I wish Mize would have sculpted up a bigger guild, so I just keep painting more of his rogues! Kind of fun too that these guys all have humungous swords, I'm hoping they are light and well-balanced! Anyhoos, enjoy!
