Done, finally. It took me three attempts until it felt right and in between he spent a lot of time on the shelf of shame (and at one point he even went back into the box of forgetfulness). As long as I tried to paint him up as "the Unclean" with a chaos/evil vibe it would not work. And then I thought about making him "the clean", which led me to musing about the color scheme of iPhones. That did the trick. In fact, the decision to go with "space grey" instead of "rose gold" was a very close one. And I DO have a bottle of rose gold paint, so it's not an empty threat! I departed a bit from the iPhone colour scheme, so as not to run into any copyright issues... Enjoy, c&c are very welcome.

Heya folks been busy painting away, but keep forgetting to post on here. This one is one of the Halfling Farmers by Jason Wiebe. I also started an instagram @starscolorbox, there are more photos on there :). Enjoy https://www.instagram.com/p/CDQ_EjeB-19/?igshid=14i9amibmp0zl

Mystery Peasant with Spiked Cudgel Started with leftover paint from the wizard. The base has been basecoated with the Mystery Sample Brown (which I am naming Hershey Kiss Dark Chocolate unofficially) that turned up in a box from those nice people in the Internet fulfillment department @Reaper. Colors I am thinking about using are splashed on the cardstock that is stuck to the paint stick. When I figure out which mini this guy actually is the title will get updated. He is really tall. For a 28mm mini.. ..he is 34mm tall. (Bootheel to top of Hood.) #Searchwords TGPTGP; Peasant; tabletop; Metal; cudgel; club; dagger

Well finally got around to taking some pics of my work this month so naturally I'd thought would post.

Haven't had a ton of time to paint this summer but I've managed to get a few things done. I've also been working on my basing. I plan on going back and adding some OSL to Damien but saving that for another day. The Familiar is from GW, cira 1994 and was a fun little guy to paint. C&C welcome and encouraged.

Been awhile since posted anything so here's my work I've done since last I posted. For her I tried to make the osl not that bright as if she was in daylight.

Been awhile since I posted anything so thought I post the work I've done since last posted. I had just recently gotten reaper's bright turquoise HD so of course just had to try it out.

Greetings! I've been working on this scary Reaper DHL Lich for a week or so. There is a rich blue glowy effect on his eyes but it doesn't seem to have come out that clearly on these pics. Anyway, thanks for looking!

Hi friends! We have another project to share with you in our continuing series where Buglips and I paint the same figure using our own very different from each other approaches to miniature painting. If you're not familiar with this series, you can check out our previous topics: 03100: Thanis the Bonecaller 01614: Con Crud 2017 Convention Zombie 02818: Bugbear Warrior For this project, we decided to paint Scorpius Rex Dracus, which is an older figure in the back catalog of Reaper - just look at the number! 02017! He's one of the OG's of the Reaper catalog! Our usual method for picking a figure is generally that one of us already owns it and suggests it and then the other of us goes and orders it. However, for Scorpius Rex Dracus, we actually both already owned him because he's a really neat figure with a lot of personality. I know a lot of people are a bit intimidated by the thought of painting dragons, but I promise they're a lot of fun and this guy would actually be a great starter dragon, as he's on the smaller side. I didn't have a Sir Forscale, but here he is next to Queen Illeosa of Korvosa to give you an idea of his size. So you can see, he's a far less intimidating size than the dragons you see in Bones. (Spoiler alert, I'm going to assemble him a little later. ) But for now, here he is straight out of the blister: As we've done with our previous WIP posts, I will be tackling this guy with my method of painting for display and I'll do my best to take y'all through all of the steps that I go through from start to finish and share my thoughts with you as I go along. As always, please feel free to comment or ask questions - I'm always glad to help out in whatever way I can along the way. I'll try not to take too many blurry pictures....but no promises.

Really liked painting this one, lots of good details. I really wanted to try OSL with his eyes and was considering adding some gore to his claws and teeth but got to this point and decided I really liked how he was looking and didn't want to muck him up with something I haven't tried before. Maybe next time! Feedback is more than welcome, please! Also, finally printed out a background for my pics

Hello again, friends and monsters (who may also be friends) - we're back with another Fast N' Fancy Reaper miniature. Those of you who may have missed our previous examples and want to check them out can find them through these links: 03100 Thanis the Bonecaller 01614 Con Crud 2017 Convention Zombie But today, we will be doing Dark Heaven Legends 02818 Bugbears by Jason Wiebe. Well, one of them anyway. Since both bugbears are overall similar, we will be doing only one. For multipack figures that are broadly the same (such as skeletons, etc.) we'll only be picking one. Where we might do a multipack with strongly dissimilar figures, then we will do both or all of the figures. So we'll be painting this guy: Also, for those of you who don't know this yet, your Reaper figures now come with a birthday! On blister packs since sometime in 2016, next to the barcode as illustrated by the arrow you will find a production date (or at least a packing date). In this case, my Bugbear was born July 28, 2017. This is very important information for his adoption papers! Should I get him a cake? I should get him a cake. And now for a few words from my painter-partner-in-crime:

So this wasprobably one of the hardest minis I've ever painted. This wasn't helped by the fact that I glued him together before starting to pain (definitely avoiding that in the future). I've also, not had to make so many fixes throughout the process. Overall though I'm happy with the way he turned out.

Want more WIP threads like this one? Check these out! 01614 Con Crud 02818 Bugbear Warrior 02017 Scorpius Rex Dracus 07001 Rictus the Undying (Dungeon Dwellers) 07002 Baran Blacktree (Dungeon Dwellers) Hello again, friends and neighbours! Several years ago, after the Bones I kickstarter, I made a thread to help people who had just signed up for a ridiculous amount of Bones minis get used to painting and encourage them to just jump right on in! This thread was even more successful than I thought and, much to my astonishment, brings new people to our hobby even today. I thought it was time for a fresh update that might be just as helpful, and maybe give us something to point new people to when they first decide to pick up a brush and become One of Us. Often when new people come by and have no idea where to start, the first general question is: what are your aims and requirements? This basically breaks down to: do you need pieces done for a game, or do you want to paint just to paint? The idea behind this WIP is to give us something to show people the difference in practice. So with the able assistance of Guindyloo, I will be painting Thanis in my usual fast-but-decent method and she will show us how nice things can be when you spend some time on them. There are, of course, many ways to paint a mini so this thread is just an example of our present working methods and by no means serve as the only way to do it, or the final word on the matter. Those of you just joining our hobby may have your own ideas about how to do things, and by all means you should use your own best judgment! All we do here is just give you some things to think about. So on to the mini you came in here to see, and I hope this thread proves useful! Here's my Thanis, fresh from her blister pack:

This miniature I've had for a while, since about 2008. I tried painting her a while ago, but I got stuck. I don't know about the rest of you, but I find painting horses to be very difficult - mostly because my colours just never seemed quite right. In November, I had to lay in supplies for over winter and that meant buying the last of my paint restocks from Coat D'Arms. While I was there, I noticed in their military line they had some Horse Tone colours. I figured, hey, why not? At least they'd probably wind up the proper colour. So Ms. Redstorm here was my first try using Coat D'Arms 224 Horst Tone Bay. The other horse tones are Dun, Chestnut, and Roan. If anybody is interested in seeing these in use, I have a number of horses and will be ordering more in a few days so I can do a WIP to show the different ones. Having pre-mixed horse colours simplifies the task quite a lot, and four colours is enough to add variety to a mounted group. I really enjoyed painting this miniature, and I never thought painting a horse would be so much fun. Also, if you're wondering why I filed off the intricate design of her shield that shows in store photos it's because her on-foot version (Vanessa of the Blade) I painted some time ago came with some pitting on the shield. As it was not enough to really bother complaining about, I merely filed it off and painted a simple quartered pattern. Since the mounted version should match my footed version, I did the same here. So if you want to see a WIP of the horse tone colours, let me know! I'll pick 4 Reaper horsepeople out of my collection when the new ones come in and paint 'em up.

Started working on a mini for someone in my gaming group. As a half-orc oracle of Cayden Cailean, Kang was a perfect fit with a little modification... Here is he primed and then undercoated in Linen White for skin. The mug was just a little Milliput for the body and green stuff for the top/bottom and to attach. I would love any feedback or recommendations (including for photographing) along the way. I've just recently returned to painting (after ~20 years) and never really had anyone to offer useful critque when I first learned.

My latest attempt - just a lot of adamantium black and a mix of clotted red / deep red with a bit of ruby for all the skull eyes.. He has a bit of a misshapen head, which may be why he turned to Evil - getting dropped on ones head has odd effects, I've heard.

Orrrcs! I got two reaper army packs of these bad boys, and they look awesome. One pack, 06015, only had the two Sandra Garrity orcs and not the two Bob Olley ones. Their fantastic customer service has already sorted this out for me, so a Bones orc of the same type is standing in as a stunt double to show the other one that comes in the pack while his compatriots travel by mail. But these six funtime fellows are getting some paint, and I've been looking forward to this!
